Monte Durham's Wedding Tips

The style maven and Fashion Director on Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta reveals his top tips for nailing your wedding fashion in 2020.

⚫On your wedding day, you will go through three transitions- your first will be down the aisle as a bride, the second in 30-45 minutes when you?re coming back up the aisle and you?re married and third and final, as a hostess to 250 of your closest friends you haven?t seen since kindergarten. So how can we impactfully transition through those in a way that?s effortless?

For the ceremony, keep things soft. You are about to say that you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, so pay homage to that. Have a light lip, pearl stud and bouquet. Once married, hand off the flowers and bustle your dress. If you want to own your look- there are three things you need in your purse: chandelier earrings, a smoky eye pencil and a red lipstick. This will help you have a fresh approach to partying the night away

⚫On your wedding day, it?s a great time to really own a fragrance, something that can be remembered down the road, whether it be Chanel NO 19, Boucheron or a personal favorite.

The best place to put it on the edge of your veil at the bottom. When you walk by, you will be leaving a little bit of a scent behind you. It?s a great way to say ?here I am.?

⚫When couples get engaged, everyone will come up and tell you what to do. They will be knocking on your door with tons of information. And one thing you may hear is-- hurry up and get the dress, because it sets the tone. But that is not the right answer

Instead, book the venue first- because when I receive that invitation, I already know exactly what I?m going to wear as a result. If their ceremony is at a five-star property at 6pm, I better dust off my tuxedo. The venue selection signals to people the tone of your celebration.

⚫When you go shopping for your wedding, it?s easy to get distracted and misguided. So, write three important things about your wedding on the back of a card, and every time you purchase something for the wedding and revisit the card. You might love an invitation but then remember you wrote down ?I want my wedding to be romantic, soft and really family-oriented.? If it does fit that, you move on. Remember to stay true to your style, and what is important to you.
