For 2020, we will start to see a return to the mechanical artistry of floral design. The free-flowing wild bouquet has been enjoying its moment, but all good things must come to an end. We will now see an increase in bouquets and designs that demonstrate more of the art and skill of the designer behind the arrangements. More and more, we will see specific designers, including signature elements in the use of armatures, wirework, and hand dyeing or painting of plant material. These more modern artistic handcrafted touches will then be juxtaposed with wildflowers. Which will strike the perfect balance we are looking for in today?s culture between the love for technology and modernity, while still yearning to reconnect with the natural world around us.

Floral installations and walls donned with blooms have risen to popularity in 2019 and they?ll continue on into the new year. They make from a dramatic statement piece, while seconding as the idyllic location for guests to take selfies. Draped and hanging installations will also still pair with professional lighting and chandeliers.

We?ll still see the round, hand-tied bouquets but instead of the rounded, dinner plate sized styles, bouquets will be a lot looser and a little more organic. Expect a lot of greenery to come into play- from eucalyptus and ferns to lemon leaves. Flowers will go East to West, instead of North to South, across the bride. Color is back- brides want vibrant colors such as dark blue and reds, versus shades of blush and ivory, which have been popular in years past.

- For aisle decor, we will see a bigger interest in planted aisles, using a combination of fresh, dried, and dyed flowers. This style will make guests feel as if the celebration is taking place in an organic garden.

- Oversized bouquets will need to make way for their petite counterparts, featuring 1-2 floral varieties versus an abundance of opt ions.

- Scent is often not thought of on a wedding day, but this year, fragranced bouquets are emerging with the use of herbs, lavender, sweet peas, or freesia.

- Trailing flowers from floor to ceiling will be popular as well, introducing a new take on over-the-top installations. This is a great way to bring the outside in if a couple is having a ballroom wedding.

As the 2020 season arrives, I think that we are going to see lots and lots of colorful flowers! Whimsical arrangements with lots of texture are going to be at the forefront of wedding design, with a variety of colorful palettes. Larger floral installations will be popular - from hanging installations over dance floors to flower walls, couples are going to love flowers in 2020.

Couples are stepping outside of the box and returning to the ?wow?factor with their blooms by inserting a wealth of color into their weddings. We?re seeing a lot of vibrant shades such as bright greens, oranges, and bold reds, blues, and purples. Going the more dramatic route, we?ll also expect an increase in utilizing modern metals in these floral designs, whether as glittering accents or muted matte elements. We?re designing with more mass and texture ? too much texture is no longer a worry! Dried and preserved florals incorporated with fresh blossoms is the new juxtaposition that?s hot for 2020, including the aforement ioned met als for millennials.

What are your top floral predictions for 2020?

Bold wild and unusual shaped installations will be big in 2020. Couples are using spaces in wedding venues to fill with colour and textures to add a wild natural feel but using unusual colour pops to add a wow factor.

Are there any emerging floral trends to watch out for in 2020?

Couples are thinking about the florals as a whole look rather than specific flowers or colours. They are working with us to create the feel of space for the wedding so as designers we have more freedom to see what is in season and what we think as a professional will work well. Locally grown flowers and flower provenance will be more of a focus in 2020.

What are your top color predictions for florals in 2020?

Greens and earthy dusky tones I think will be great in 2020 but also vibrant neon pops of colour for more daring couples. The blush trend will continue but be paired with dove greys, soft blues and soft greens. Wedding florals will be more elegant and classic in tones with a move to create timeless elegance.
