What wedding cake trends are emerging in 2020?

- Hand Painted Finishes on Cakes - Cakes with an artistic flair are the hot trend for 2020. Think hand painted elements using edible paint such as written messages in calligraphy or beautiful floral designs painted directly onto the cake.
- Traditional Royal Icing - Extravagant cakes with multiple tiers created using royal using with a contemporary twist are big for next season. Think simple white designs coupled with a modern twist such as a couples favourite florals, details from the venue or personalised monogrammed flourishes.
- Baroque - Think vintage elegance and ornate styling with cascading blooms all reflecting the impeccable elegance of the Royal Baroque times. Gold flourishing is key to this trend.

The cake as an afterthought! Nowadays cakes can really make a visual impact on the big day. Couples are looking for an opulent centrepiece that will get their guests talking and something beautiful and delicious that represents them as a couple.
What are some of the more unique trends you're seeing now that will be big in 2020?
Again 2020 is all about the cake as the showstopper and centre piece. Instead of the cake as an afterthought, couples are opting for more and more elaborate ways to display the cake. A hanging chandelier cake is a fabulous way to WOW your guests.
How do you see wedding desserts being used in terms of decor and styling in 2020?
Cake designers love a creative project and nowadays couples are looking for any way they can add their flair of flourish to the overall decor and styling on the big day. From elaborate flavours that really reflect the couple and monogrammed cakes to colour and design - anything is possible when it comes to crafting a cake that will not only WOW but will be a centerpiece for a couple's wedding decor and styling.

What wedding cake trends are emerging in 2020?
Fault lines have taken the celebration cake world by storm in the latter part of 2019 so I expect to see these appearing in wedding cakes early next year. Also marble fondant has been around for a while but marble buttercream is relatively new on the cake scene and again likely to be appearing on wedding cakes. There is a real resurgence in love for sugar flowers and I expect to see lots of interestingly textured fondant cakes with beautiful botanical displays of sugar flowers continuing to be popular. And because cakes often follow interior trends I think we'll see a lot of mint green in colour schemes for cake decorat ion.
What are some of the more unique trends you're seeing now that will be big in 2020?
Perspex separators that give the illusion of the tier above floating are an exciting new design development. Also complex geometric work and modern deco style fluting in fondant.
What dessert (non-cake) trends are up and coming in 2020?
I think that Choux will continue to be a prominent fixture in the world of pastries. Also vegan and plant based desserts will feature heavily and become increasingly sophist icat ed.
