2020 will continue to see a rise in editorial style photography. I'm finding that with more and more couples making bold fashion and style choices, a fashion/editorial stance to capturing weddings will definitely be more popular. Couples are increasingly looking for photographers with a unique artistic vision. We are seeing more and more traditional 'photography rules' being broken. Photos that capture imperfect moments, movements with blur, out of focus shots, interesting crops are all part of the editorial trend :)

What's out in photography and cinematography in 2020?

Portraits that are too posed and perfect looking without any emotion. People are gravitating more towards real moments. Also, no more sending USB's to couples- the new macbooks can't even fit the traditional usb! Galleries are all digital and USB's are replaced by physical print s.

Wedding Cinematography

A more immersive capture and edit. Couples want to relive the experience when wat ching the video.

We have also noticed guests are more willing to talk on camera now to give wishes and recite funny stories about the couple! The fear of talking on camera has gone! Films are also becoming "Instagram" friendly - 3- 5min films that can be posted online are easier to share and create an instant buzz for the couple which means edits have to be sharp and uber cool!

3D is an exciting space for weddings! Cameras are also becoming lighter and faster which means they can used to capture shots that would have been impossible. Photos and videos will be shared more via Instagram, it's almost like the new digit al int eract ive wedding album.

Recently we have started hearing about a trend for a wedding day blooper reels just for social media. We think this is a sensational trend because who doesn?t love a good laugh. I hope this takes on strong and of course goes viral for everyone to enjoy.

Super slo-mo' has enjoyed its revival for a while now, so expect to see people really going to town with their cinematic moments in 2020. Also, say goodbye to static shots and tired cuts, couple want their videographer to move with them and get those tracking shots that truly inspire; when everything goes into the edit, no-one wants a video-by-numbers- edit, so expect to see more personalisation during the cut. We all know the choice is out there, now, and couples want to be able to go for their own flavours; those who can't cater to individual influences may find themselves with fewer jobs, next year.

Ultimately, we'll see cinematic videos come through. Every aspect of the big day will be captured, from the decorations to the deciding moments, videographers will blend the shots and, more importantly, provide the moment that will give their couples breath-taking films that will truly put the pressure on the photographers... watch out for the videographers' stills!

What's out?

"Say goodbye to awful photoshopped images and out-dated DSLR's. Couples want true-to-life images that capture the spirit and vitality of their celebrations. The moody style that has been so popular was actually born out of necessity; now that the latest breed of cameras can cover such an incredible range of light, we'll see professionals return shots with what everyone else remembered with the eye, only with that magic that only a good pro' can add. Those who don't invest and still struggle through in post-production will be left behind.

Good-bye Moody Style, hello vitality. 2020 will bring in a zest in photography and cinematography that follows the move to celebratory, out-doors,treasure-the - experience weddings."

"Letting your beautiful wedding day photos reside solely on your computer, phone or social media. Over the last several years we have seen a steady decline in print and album orders. To our happy surprise the end of 2019 has shown a dramatic resurgence of tangible items ordered vs strictly downloads. We have witnessed more couples order albums in 2019 than in the past 4 or 5 years. I am happy to say and see more photos in frames and more lovely albums gracing coffee t ables again."

"Posting to social media during the wedding is changing. It used to be that couples welcomed the posting of photos from the wedding to Instagram or Facebook at all times during the day. Now we are seeing couples asking guests not to post photos to social media until after the ceremony. A lot of couples are setting up selfie stations at the reception to satisfy their guests craving to update their social accounts. I have been at several wedding where photos of the bride in her dress, were posted by a well-meaning guest to social media and seen by the groom before the ceremony."

"Crying pics and videos! Emotion is great but we have seen people shying away from crying shots now.

We are also seeing less bridal portraits and groom shots, couples are opting for more photos surrounded by friends and family."
