An Amalfi Coast-Inspired Garden Wedding
P
earl Tang and Theudides Jr (T.J.) Almodovar first met at a bar in Vancouver in September 2013. They were each there with friends who were dating. It was love at first sight for one of them. “I was so enamoured with Pearl that I offered her a drink, which she turned down, along with the other three drink offers throughout the night,” recalls T.J. “After that day, with the help of her best friend, I made every attempt to be present at every function Pearl would possibly be attending for the next several months. It was a persistent and sometimes hilarious chase that eventually led to the romantic and magical day which was our wedding.” Though T.J. waited to propose until almost three years later, he had been planning the moment for quite some time. After considering all his options, he settled on the perfect idea. While the pair were vacationing in Positano, he invited Pearl to a private dinner set in a secluded cliffside location overlooking Italy’s Amalfi Coast. Just as the sun was setting, surrounded by dozens of candles, five hundred peonies (Pearl’s favourite flower), and live mandolin players serenading them with an acoustic version of Sam Smith’s, “Latch,” T.J. asked Pearl to marry him. The wedding took place on August 6, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia at the vancouver club. Jenny De Jong of countdown events planning & design provided full planning services and according to the groom, “Everything was executed to perfection.” Pearl donned multiple gowns on her wedding day. The first, her qipao-inspired dress, was custommade at manuel mendoza. Her second gown was designed by Martina Liana and purchased at lovella bridal in Pasadena.
T.J. wore Tom Ford formalwear from holt renfrew. He accessorized with a Tom Ford pocket square from harry rosen, cufflinks, and a watch, the latter of which was a wedding gift from Pearl.

The co-maids of honour wore nude pink gowns from asos, while the bridesmaids wore dusty lilac gowns, also from ASOS. Groomsmen wore formalwear from indochino and bow ties from h&m.

the flower factory created a colourful floral ceremony space with vibrant blooms and a crystal chandelier covered in fresh foliage. Fresh greenery and ivory orchids were affixed to clear Chiavari chairs along the aisle. Ethereal white draping from upright decor signature events inc. Pearl and T.J. chose to forgo traditional wedding vows in lieu of personal letters they wrote to one another and read aloud.

the flower factory and upright decor signature events inc. transformed the vancouver club’s Grand Ballroom into an indoor urban garden inspired by the flora of Positano, the site of Pearl and T.J’s engagement. Vibrant florals filled the room, the most dramatic arrangement of which hung above the centre gallery table like a cloud. Greenery cascaded down from each of the statement chandeliers and a variety of high and low arrangements containing bright pops of colour and loose, garden-like florals sat atop the remaining gallery tables.

The five-tier wedding cake by ganache patisserie featured three different flavours: guava mandarin, espresso dark chocolate, and cassis matcha.
Pearl’s third dress was a glamorous gold sequin evening gown designed by Tal Medina.
Guests were treated to canapés and signature cocktails (bourbon sours and mojitos) during cocktail hour, a plated dinner at the reception, and a late-night ramen bar containing noodles and fried chicken, all of which were provided by the vancouver club. Despite the array of delicious food, Pearl and T.J. were most impressed by the florals and decor. Their favourite moment of the day was “walking in together and both being blown away by the amazing job the wedding team had done on the flowers and decorations. It was beyond dreamy,” shares the couple. The celebration ended with the couple dancing the night away to DJ Jay Raposki of signature wedding. In addition to photography services, life studios inc. captured video of the day. On their wedding day, T.J. surprised Pearl with a fully-planned honeymoon to Europe. The two embarked on their romantic vacation in October, less than two months after the wedding, and visited Munich, Monaco, and Paris before making their way back to Positano’s il san pietro di positano, where T.J. proposed. Upon their return to Vancouver, the newlyweds settled back into daily life, where Pearl is a fine jewellery sales specialist and T.J. is a realtor.

igh school sweethearts Nicole Grafton and Carson Heppell first met when they were just sixteen years old. Carson’s cousin Braden was a close friend of Nicole and introduced the two. Their first date took place at the Northwest Washington Fair and they’ve been together ever since! Three years later, Carson planned a surprise proposal with the help of his sisters. On the morning of August 4, 2016, Carson’s sister Avery phoned Nicole and invited her to their house for a girls night. Nicole accepted and Carson offered to pick her up on his way home from work. On their way to his house, Carson drove past Campbell Valley Park and asked Nicole to join him for an impromptu picnic, something they had been planning to do all summer. Nicole agreed and the two headed down a pathway to an area with a small dock overlooking the pond. When they arrived, Carson got down on one knee and asked Nicole to marry him. Just as she said “yes,” Carson’s sisters came out from behind some nearby bushes where they had secretly been taking photos of the special moment. They then drove back to Carson’s house where all of their family and friends were waiting to celebrate. Nicole and Carson were wed on June 17, 2017 in Langley, British Columbia and commissioned Brynn Belisle of dreamgroup productions inc. to provide full event planning services. The entire wedding took place at the father of the bride’s home in Langley.

THE CEREMONY
“I am my father’s youngest daughter and he wanted me to be married at his home. He installed a marriage deck and a small lake with illuminated fountains for our ceremony and welcomed 250 guests into his home to celebrate Carson and I.” –nicole
Nicole and Carson exchanged vows outdoors on an 8-ft by 8-ft plexiglass platform that the bride’s father had built for the occasion. The platform overlooked the man-made lake that had also been installed on the property by the bride’s father for the wedding. It was decorated with unstructured garden-inspired floral arrangements by flowerz. A live pianist played an instrumental version of “Amazed” by Lonestar as Nicole walked down the aisle, accompanied by her father. When the officiant announced the couple as husband and wife, three illuminated fountains went off in the lake behind them just as large white balloons tied together with a garland of greenery by koncept event design were released to symbolize the couple’s love for one another.
Yards of blush fabric accented with garlands of greenery were dramatically suspended at sixteen feet off the back of the house.
Nicole wore a Pronovias gown and cathedral lace veil from house of vienna. She also wore a pair of simple pearl earrings that had been purchased by her mother while on a trip to Turkey the previous year and given to Nicole as a gift on the day before her wedding.

After the ceremony, guests made their way into the tent to find a modern cocktail lounge inspired by the rooftop of a chic Miami nightclub. The setting had sleek white sofas and ottomans from loungeworks furniture rental and decor.
Blankets from the groom’s mother kept guests warm throughout the evening.
Guests were treated to cotton candy from petite puf during the cocktail hour.
Other notable decor elements included white draping hung along the ceiling and perimeter of the tent, a green hedge bar, glass bar tables with smoky-hued stools, uplighting, and candlelit lanterns; all provided by koncept event design. Fresh greenery accented with white blooms from flowerz adorned the bar tables as well as three statement chandeliers, which hung above the dance floor. The white vinyl dance floor was designed by Koncept Event Design and installed by a&b partytime rentals ltd.

They also provided plywood walkways from the ceremony site to the main tent so guests did not have to walk on the grass.

AN ETHEREAL DAYDREAM On the reception side of the tent, flowerz and koncept event design created a jaw-dropping nature-meets-glamour environment with fresh florals and greenery gracing every corner of the space. Trailing garlands, loose bouquets in narrow silver vases, and floating runners perched on acrylic shelves made up tablescapes. White draping, crystal chandeliers, and suspended panels of silver dollar eucalyptus, fern leaves, and hanging glass ornaments all created a sight to behold.

Strings of fairy lights were incorporated into the draping from koncept event design that hung immediately behind the head table while a lush floral garland from flowerz cascaded along the centre of the table down the front.

peake of catering worked closely with the bride and groom to curate a personalized wedding menu that included a summer buffet of prime rib, wild salmon, grilled vegetables, and an assortment of summer salads, as well as a late-night mac and cheese bar, a custom crêpe bar, and a dessert buffet consisting of triple berry crumble bars, Nanaimo bars, country carrot cake, maple fudge bars, lemon macaron squares, and lemon tarts. life studios inc. provided their cinematography services and produced a same day edit wedding video for the bride and groom to watch with their guests during the reception. According to the bride, “It was so fun to be able to watch a recap of the day with our guests and relive everything in the moment because the day goes by so fast!” adam and kev photography set up a portrait studio with two different backgrounds where guests were invited to pose for photos and keep them as wedding favors. Ultimately, Nicole and Carson’s main priority was to ensure their guests were well taken care of throughout the day’s festivities. From the complimentary valet and glass of champagne that greeted guests to the abundance of food available throughout the evening, they treated their family and friends like royalty. “I think that the reason everyone had so much fun at our wedding is because people knew that we had thought about how to take care of them and that made the day so much more spectacular because they felt happy and excited to be there,” says Nicole. Nicole and Carson departed on a luxurious and relaxing honeymoon to Grenada shortly after their wedding. They stayed in a lavish suite with a private infinity pool at sandals lasource grenada and went scuba diving, sailing, and river tubing during the course of their trip. Upon returning to Canada, they settled back into their daily routines in Langley.

Anthony and Logan presented each of their mothers with a white bouquet from viva event design and each groom wrote their father a personalized card. Both grooms walked down the aisle alongside their mothers.
nthony Salituro and Logan Giesbrecht met in Kamloops in the fall of 2013, shortly after Logan had moved there to attend nursing school. “I was intimidated by Anthony’s successes and accolades,” recalls Logan. (Anthony has raised almost $1 million for breast cancer research through the Pink Ribbon Charity Ball and has won the President’s Award and Young Entrepreneur Award through the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce.) But Logan’s nerves soon dissipated when after knowing each other for a month, Anthony took Logan to Vancouver for a romantic getaway to the rosewood hotel georgia—a hotel that would eventually become their home away from home. Shortly thereafter, Logan met Anthony’s family and secured a place in their hearts through a mutual love for “all things carbohydrate-based, i.e. pasta!” jokes Logan. “Huge, loud Italian families are not for everyone, but they certainly are for me!” Their relationship was taken to the next level that Christmas. Though they were spending it apart, Logan’s gift for Anthony more than made up for it. “On Christmas morning, we FaceTimed one another and mutually opened our presents. Inside a small box was a deck of cards Logan had crafted for me; 52 Reason’s Why I Love Anthony Salituro. Until this moment, neither one of us had said those three words and all at once, I learned 52 different reasons why Logan loved me,” recalls Anthony. With Anthony’s profession as an event planner, it wasn’t long before the two began discussing their future wedding. They agreed that they wanted a big, formal, black tie affair in Vancouver with over 300 guests, but the one thing they couldn’t agree on was who would propose! Nearly three years later, in the summer of 2016, the couple were hosting a big backyard barbecue for 125 of their closest friends and family. As everyone sat for dinner, Anthony stood to welcome guests and called Logan up to join him. “He thanked me for being in his life and said how special our relationship is. He asked me if I had any plans for the rest of my life and proceeded to pull out a large red Cartier bag,” remembers Logan. Inside were two matching Cartier Love bracelets, symbolizing their engagement. They then invited everyone in attendance to save the date to celebrate their wedding in one year’s time! The wedding took place on August 12, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia. As the chief event designer behind viva event design, it was only natural that Anthony would plan his own wedding. Realizing he would need a day-of coordinator in order to properly enjoy his primary role as groom, he hired Aly Armstrong of aly armstrong event planning & design. “Planning my own wedding was both a dream and a challenge. It was a balance of making it as perfect as I wanted it to be while ensuring I wouldn’t be ‘working’ on my wedding day. Having Aly in the mix made this possible; she was flexible with my ideas and brought local knowledge of Vancouver to the logistics of the event,” shares Anthony.
The ceremony took place at saint andrew’s-wesley united church.
In lieu of an engagement ring, Anthony surprised Logan with matching engagement bracelets purchased at cartier in Vancouver. Anthony’s Love bracelet is gold, while Logan’s is white gold.
Anthony wore two pairs of shoes during the wedding day. His crystal-encrusted Christian Louboutin loafers were worn in the evening.

SLEEK MODERNISM MEETS FRENCH OPULENCE The cocktail and wedding reception took place at the law courts great hall. Anthony’s company, viva event design, provided all floral and decor for the wedding to perfectly encapsulate Anthony’s love of Old World romance and Logan’s penchant for clean and contemporary design. The modern glass and concrete venue provided the perfect canvas for the couple’s vision. The angular, geometric ceiling was complemented by regal, French-inspired decor in the form of hundreds of flickering candles that lined the entranceway, lucite Louis chairs, gold flatware, and ivory glass charger plates with ornate filigree, all from Viva Event Design. In the centre of each guest table was a large trumpet vase overflowing with white hydrangea, roses, lisianthus, dahlias, greenery, and cascading orchids. The long, oval-shaped head table had a runner of high and low arrangements, in gold stands and gold bowls, respectively, comprising the same white florals.
The ice blue velvet sofa, faux fur white bench, gold-framed marble tables, and upholstered oval-back chairs that made up the lounge area were provided by Viva Event Design.
Four white cherry blossom trees were also scattered throughout the room to complete the celebration’s floral elements.

Solo pianist Mark Hopper played as guests entered the reception venue. The grand piano was provided by showcase pianos.
Napkins embroidered with the couple’s monogram were custom-made for the occasion. “We now have a keepsake from our wedding to use for a lifetime at Christmas parties and summer soirées,” shares Anthony.
All candles, candleholders, flatware, and charger plates were provided by viva event design. Viva Event Design also provided the regal yet contemporary clear Louis chairs. Tables, bars, stemware, and plates were provided by pedersen’s rentals.
Tables were adorned with light blue and ivory jacquard floor-length tablecloths from Viva Event Design. Ivory and gold menus, place cards, and table numbers were all from minted.

emelle’s catering prepared a gourmet plated dinner consisting of an arugula salad with asparagus tips, roasted beets, and spiced pecans, a tagliatelle pasta dish with truffle oil and a mushroom cream sauce, braised beef medallions with a red wine demi-glace, cauliflower and Kennebec potato purée, and roasted vegetables, and a lemon cake with a lemon mousse filling, raspberry paint, and hibiscus dust. The dessert’s flavour combination perfectly complemented the serving of limoncello that was distributed to guests as the grooms gave their speech. With Vancouver’s skyline in the background, the newlyweds spent the evening dancing under the stars to famous players band, which Anthony described as the “pièce de résistance.” Their full-scale, 12-piece band had everyone on the dance floor until the end of the night. One of the groom’s most cherished moments was when, as per Italian tradition, guests made a “circle of love” around the newlyweds as they were dancing with their mothers. “This was a very touching moment in the evening,” shares Anthony. vincent + theo studios provided their cinematography services. Overall, the venue’s contemporary aesthetic spoke to Logan, while the opulent florals, rich linens, and luxe colour palette provided the touch of French flair that Anthony had always envisioned. “It was a fusion of our two styles,” says Logan. Following their big day, Anthony and Logan embarked on a five-day “mini-moon” to Santa Monica, California. Though the couple is planning a longer holiday to Greece and Italy in the spring of 2018, they had a fantastic time dining at gourmet restaurants nobu malibu and the ivy and staying in luxury hotel hotel casa del mar, which overlooks the Santa Monica Pier. Upon their return, the newlyweds settled into married life in Kamloops, where Anthony is the chief event planner of viva event design and the owner of viva bridal boutique and Logan is a registered nurse and forest firefighter.

randi Alexander and Emy Aneke met thirteen years ago when they were cast as boyfriend and girlfriend in the film The Five People You Meet In Heaven. Their on-screen chemistry turned into a real-life romance and they’ve been together ever since. Every year since they began dating, Emy has planned an Easter egg hunt for Brandi. This year was no exception, however, Emy decided to do things a little differently. He handed Brandi a stack of cue cards, turning the annual tradition into a scavenger hunt. “Each egg I found led to something bigger and trickier,” describes Brandi. “The hunt ultimately led me to the fridge, where I found a basket of golden berries, my favourite fruit. I had to eat all the golden berries, which I thought was odd but was worth it because I finally found out why.” At the bottom of the basket of golden berries was a diamond ring and just as she spotted it, Emy got down on one knee in front of Brandi’s whole family and popped the question. “It caught me by surprise but it is a special memory I will never forget,” she shares. Brandi and Emy said “I do” on July 21, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia. CC Roa of roa floral and event design provided full event planning services and design assistance. Brandi’s stunning bouquet was also designed by ROA Floral and Event Design, who provided all floral and decor for the wedding. The arrangement consisted of white roses, phalaenopsis orchids, and miniature white calla lilies. Roses were adorned with sparkling rhinestones and the bouquet stem was covered in white satin ribbon accented with a crystal rhinestone appliqué. Brandi and Emy were wed at the Celebration Pavilion in queen elizabeth park. Four tall, lush floral arrangements from ROA Floral and Event Design sat in glass vases atop clear pedestals and surrounded the altar. Florals consisted of cymbidium orchids, white dahlias, and white roses interspersed with greenery. Guests sat in gold Chiavari chairs from lonsdale event rentals. “Our ceremony was very special and when I said I didn’t think I would I cry, I was wrong. As soon as I saw my groom, I couldn’t help but start to cry. It was the happiest moment of my life,” recalls Brandi.

Brandi changed into a handmade Nigerian gown for the reception, which she accessorized with earrings, a necklace, and a bracelet, all made of coral beads and gold-plated beading and purchased in Nigeria. Emy also changed into a traditional Nigerian outfit given to him by his mother.

The cocktail hour and wedding reception took place at the sutton place hotel vancouver. The focal point of the reception was undoubtedly the luxe sweetheart stage that sat on an elevated platform wrapped in white satin fabric from roa floral and event design. It featured an art deco-inspired custom-designed panel. Two fresh floral walls of hydrangea, roses, spray roses, and orchids flanked the black and gold panel. In addition, two floral arrangements from the ceremony were repurposed and stood at either edge of the stage. Behind the platform hung dramatic black draping from art of the party design inc., along with the pièce de rÊsistance, an array of sparkling crystal garlands that truly embodied 1920s glam.

TROPICAL ART DECO The bride requested that a touch of greenery be added to the reception florals, however, these were no ordinary greens. According to event planner CC Roa, “The majestic philodendron leaves requested were reminiscent of the greenery that surrounded the groom’s family garden in Nigeria.” roa floral and event design had 200 philodendron leaves shipped in from Colombia just three days before the wedding. These green accents, alongside white orchids, roses,

hydrangea, calla lilies, green amaranthus, and bupleurum stems, made up the tall centrepiece arrangements. Smaller bouquets of the same florals in customdesigned boxes with rhinestone appliqué from ROA Floral and Event Design comprised alternate centrepieces. A small clear box containing a Filipino pastry called polvoron from marked edible designs served as wedding favors.

After the wedding, the couple embarked on a relaxing vacation to Cabo San Lucas. “This was much needed after our wedding. We enjoyed the rest and relaxation, soaking up the sun, and exploring the beaches of Cabo,” shares the groom. The couple currently resides in Surrey, where Brandi is an actress and Emy is an actor.

A Classic White Wedding at an Historic Theatre

auren Rodych and Jordan Eberle first met while in Grade 10 math class. One decade later, the two were planning their dream wedding after Jordan proposed in the backyard of their Calgary home next to a romantic bonfire by the lake. The wedding took place on July 22, 2017 in Calgary, Alberta. Julianne Young of julianne young weddings inc. provided full event planning services. “Within the first three minutes of talking to her, I knew she would be a great fit for us! She made everything less stressful and was always a positive energy throughout the planning process,” shares Lauren. The couple’s modern and playful invitation suite was designed by the social page and included the hashtag, #nosharpies, “as a reminder for everyone to be present and enjoy the evening with no autographs,” shares Julianne Young. Other wedding hashtags, including #becomingmrseberle and #freedrinks, adorned day-of stationery from plush invites. Lauren wore a Hayley Paige ball gown from the bridal gallery. Jordan wore blue formalwear from king & bay. Inside his suit jacket, he and Lauren’s initials and wedding date were sewn in with red thread. Hair styling services were provided by sln hair bar and makeup application services were provided by makeup by erin kilburn.

CEREMONY NOTES Lauren, a music teacher and Jordan, an NHL player for the New York Islanders, were wed at theatre junction grand. The venue “was chosen to incorporate Lauren’s musical career into the wedding,” shares event planner Julianne Young. Upon arrival at the theatre, guests enjoyed champagne and received ceremony programs from plush invites while a string trio from bel canto strings performed. Guests took their seats in the theatre and looked to the
stage where flower artistry and julianne young weddings inc. had created a beautiful all-white design for the ceremony. A floral hedge of white delphinium and greenery lined the edge of the stage, while a white T-shaped aisle runner from special event rentals allowed wedding parties to walk in from opposite sides. Seven chandeliers, including one that was 7-ft tall and embellished with a full floral collar, provided dramatic lighting.
The groomsmen wore navy formalwear from king & bay. The bridesmaids wore ivory dresses from cameo & cufflinks.

A SPARKLING RECEPTION WITH A NOD TO HOCKEY The cocktail and wedding reception took place at the fairmont palliser. The reception was a testament to the bride’s wishes for a “classic and white, white, white”-themed wedding. Centrepieces from flower artistry adorned the tables, accompanied by mercury glass votives holding over 200 white tea lights. A delicate light projection by orange frog productions was used to “add movement” to the overall design. According to Julianne Young, “The full floral centerpieces, acrylic Château chairs, and crystal candelabras both opened up the space by adding height and allowed for the gorgeous lighting to reflect and make the room sparkle.”
Guests sat at tables embellished with white satin linens, gold flatware, acrylic Château chairs, gold votive holders, and clear beaded charger plates, all from special event rentals. Clear, round menus from plush invites were personalized with each guests’ name. “These were a big hit for guests as their names appeared to be printed on the plates,” recalls Julianne Young. Round tables were provided by the Fairmont Palliser. Harvest gallery tables were provided by Special Event Rentals.
The customized dance floor was designed by Plush Invites and produced by creative dance floors.
Plush Invites designed all day-of stationery with the exception of the cocktail napkins. Event stationery included menus, bar signage, escort cards, and table numbers.

Guests enjoyed a four-course dinner and late-night dessert buffet prepared by the fairmont palliser. In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, Lauren and Jordan opted for an on-trend donut wall from the Fairmont Palliser with flavours such as PB & J, maple bourbon bacon, s’mores, Cap’n Crunch, and key lime pie. Customized details could be found throughout the reception in the form of bar signage from plush invites bearing the hashtag #becomingmrseberle and cocktail napkins from the social page that were inscribed with fun facts about the couple. A cornerstone of the reception design was the white dance floor designed by Plush Invites and produced by creative dance floors, featuring the couple’s monogram. “Because Jordan is an NHL player, we designed an oval shape around their modern monogram to tie in the idea of an ice hockey rink. It was a fun and subtle way to add meaning to their wedding design,” shares Julianne Young. The dance floor framed the stage where Juno Award-winning country singer Brett Kissel gave a 1.5-hour performance of original songs and covers. While dancing, guests could place custom coasters on top of their drinks saying “Please don’t take my drink, I’m dancing!” This fun party detail was included because the bride LOVES to dance and sing. DJ Fayyaz K from pez productions followed, leaving the dance floor packed the entire night. parfait productions provided their cinematography services. James Bundy from ocl studios provided his AV services. For their honeymoon, Lauren and Jordan travelled to French Polynesia. They snorkeled every day and explored the islands of Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora. After returning home to Calgary, the two settled back into daily life, where Lauren is a music teacher and Jordan is an NHL player for the New York Islanders.

arvee Moosavi and Maxime Leveille first met in Montreal on December 26, 2013, when they spontaneously decided to go out for drinks with friends. Thanks to a mutual friend who sparked a conversation between them, they got to talking and the outing ended with Maxime asking Sarvee out on a lunch date. She happily accepted and a short while later, they had their first kiss in front of the anatomy building at McGill University, where Sarvee was studying. After graduating from McGill, Sarvee moved to Vancouver to complete her fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of British Columbia and Maxime followed her. Eighteen months later, the couple were on a romantic trip to Paris where they had spent the day sitting at cafes along the Seine, walking by the “love locks,” and enjoying all that the City of Light had to offer. They decided to have a picnic on the riverbank next to the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral. After indulging in champagne, cheese, grapes, and baguette, Sarvee found a ring box at the bottom of the picnic basket. On cue, Maxime got down on one knee and asked Sarvee to spend the rest of their lives together. The wedding took place in Vancouver, British Columbia on June 24, 2017, exactly two years after Maxime proposed. Nargess Tabrizy-Shokrani of fleur de lis events provided full event planning services. Sarvee and Maxime tied the knot in a traditional Iranian ceremony at the vancouver club. Their sofreh was framed with white orchids and peonies in clear vases to give the illusion they were floating. Fleur de Lis Events designed the ceremony sofreh in collaboration with farzaneh bassiri. As per tradition, the Persian spread included coins, fruit, flatbread, rice, pastries, honey, spices, candles, and an ornate mirror. An archway of orchids on tall plexiglass pillars from granville island florist was located directly behind the bride and groom for an unforgettable setting. A string trio from musical occasions performed “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran as Sarvee walked down the aisle with her parents.

The cocktail and wedding reception took place at the vancouver club. The ballroom had been turned into an all-white, cloud-like oasis courtesy of granville island florist and éclat decor inc. Dreamy arrangements of trailing white orchids and hydrangea stood on tall clear pillars “creating the illusion of a heavenly cloud structure running above family tables,” shares event planner Nargess Tabrizy-Shokrani. The mirrored head table from Éclat Decor Inc had the largest overhead arrangement of all. The head table was also adorned with a garland of orchids running along the edge, small bouquets of roses and peonies in clear vases, and crystal candleholders of varying heights. Behind this stunning design was a panel of romantic white draping with soft blush uplighting from Éclat Decor Inc.
Round tables were provided by the vancouver club and were covered in ivory organza linens with gold floral appliqué, while gallery tables were adorned with ivory silk linens, all from éclat decor inc. Gallery tables were provided by a&b partytime rentals ltd.

the vancouver club prepared a dinner buffet filled with Persian cuisine, Western cuisine, and seafood for guests to enjoy during the reception. “We had the pleasure of tasting the buffet menu at The Vancouver Club before the wedding. They were so accommodating and even prepared the traditional Persian dishes that we wanted to add to our menu,” recalls Sarvee. The five-tier blush and white wedding cake was created by the cake & the giraffe. It featured a raspberry latte and vanilla latte flavour, cascading orchids, and edible pearl detailing meant to resemble the bride’s gown. Guests were also treated to a dessert table from The Vancouver Club. Sarvee and Maxime took to the dance floor for a very special first dance as husband and wife. The pair had been attending dance classes prior to the wedding and had choreographed an entire routine to “Sway” by Michael Bublé. DJ Armin kept the party going until the wee hours of the morning. Cinematography provided by vincent + theo studios. Transportation provided by time limousine service. Shortly after saying “I do,” Sarvee and Maxime embarked on a European honeymoon that took them to the South of France and the Greek Islands. Upon returning home, the newlyweds settled back into life in Vancouver, where Sarvee is a physician and Maxime is a lawyer.

A Floral-Filled Wedding

icky Kao and Lawrance Law were first introduced through family friends in January 2016 and have been together ever since! Having already discussed marriage and their future wedding, Lawrance began planning the perfect proposal. “We are both homebodies so he planned a cozy and romantic proposal with just the two of us,” shares Vicky. The wedding took place on June 3, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Jenny De Jong and Soha Lavin of countdown events planning & design provided full event planning services and according to the bride and groom, “Soha and Jenny did a great job organizing the wedding and recommending professional vendors.”
Lawrance wore formalwear from blair shapera, along with Salvatore Ferragamo shoes and an Audemars Piguet watch. 1954 Rolls-Royce provided by ultimate limousine.

Vicky and Lawrance were wed in the ballroom foyer at the fairmont pacific rim. The lavish entranceway to the ceremony space was truly a sight to behold. White floorto-ceiling draping from Êclat dcor inc flanked either side of both floral arches designed by tala florist. Hydrangea, orchid leis, and hanging crystal garlands comprised the arches. Tall clear candleholders with floating white candles and a glossy white floor embellished with the couple’s gold monogram led guests into the ceremony.

Once inside, the abundance of florals continued. Four white pedestals with overflowing arrangements of hydrangea, roses, and spray roses stood at one end of the aisle and had winding floral garlands wrapped around them, while a rectangular arch made of orchids and Italian greenery in shades of ivory and white comprised the altar. The floral arch was designed by Soha Lavin of countdown events planning & design and Hassan Aghamohseni of tala florist. Clear Chiavari chairs from éclat decor inc had small bouquets affixed to the backs, in addition to the oversized florals on clear pillars that lined the aisle.

draping lined the perimeter of the ballroom for an all-white aesthetic, while subtle gold details in the form of charger plates from éclat decor inc, table numbers from flourish by colleen winton, and chair covers from upright decor signature events inc. provided a regal touch.

“A Thousand Years” Proposal
Emily wore a traditional Gua dress for the Chinese tea ceremony.
E
mily Yang and Wayne Lee’s romance began in the summer of 2011. That summer, Emily was in Taiwan visiting her family. Cissy, a friend from Vancouver, had come to visit her and as Emily was showing her around town, Cissy happened to meet a nice man named Blake who was studying at the National Taiwan University. Blake fell in love with Cissy and when Cissy and Emily returned to Vancouver, he followed. Coincidentally, Wayne had done an exchange at the National Taiwan University the previous summer, and during his time there, had befriended Blake. One night back in Vancouver, Blake and Cissy invited Emily and Wayne to go out with them and it was love at first sight. After five years together, Wayne was finally ready to propose. He took Emily to a nice restaurant and then suggested they go out for dessert. Emily found this to be a little odd seeing as she wanted to go home and watch a movie. Little did she know, all of their closest friends were at her house, decorating it with candles and flowers. When she arrived home, dessert in hand, “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri was playing through the speakers and rose petals led to the living room, where all of her friends were waiting. Once in the living room, Wayne knelt down and proposed. “He remembered that I had said if I were to get married, I didn’t want an engagement ring. Instead, I wanted the money to be donated to charity,” shares Emily. Wayne presented a big cheque to the SPCA, the organization where Emily volunteered, as his proposal. As one final surprise, their dog, Muffin, ran towards them with a necklace passed down from Wayne’s grandmother. The wedding took place on August 20, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Jessie Lo of wedo weddings etc. provided full event planning services and according to the bride, “Our wedding planner was great! I had to travel to Taiwan for six months during the wedding planning, but Jessie helped me through my anxieties about not being there and she and Wayne made my dream wedding come true.”

The wedding reception took place at the four seasons hotel vancouver. Bringing the fairytale indoors, balconi floral design studio inc. and wedo weddings etc. designed a showstopping reception filled with blush and cream florals and glistening crystal accents. “Emily loves anything dangling and crystal,” says planner Jessie Lo. Three giant floral rings with crystal strands hanging down from the centre were suspended above the dance floor by psav and served as the focal point. A combination of blush sequin, blush shantung, and champagne linens, plus blush shantung draping, all from WeDo Weddings Etc., created a soft and romantic atmosphere. “Bringing the outdoors in, we wanted the guests to feel comfortable and surprised by all of the elements upon their arrival,” recalls Jessie.
A unique floral installation that doubled as an escort card wall greeted guests at the entrance to the reception venue. Escort cards provided by making memories with stationery.

Catering was provided by the four seasons hotel vancouver and included an after-party snack bar consisting of ramen, chicken wings, and poutine. Emily and Wayne’s six-tier wedding cake was a true work of art. Prepared by momo chen cakes, the confection featured edible gilding and a floral crown topper comprising over 100 blush sugar flowers of different sizes. To emphasize the dazzling creation, strings of crystals and white hydrangea were hung around the cake to mimic the Chinese coronet, traditionally worn by the bride on her wedding day. “The lustre finish of the cake made it shimmer in the centre of the dance floor and the hand-piped monogram made it one-of-a-kind. It was simply gorgeous,” recalls Emily. As a romantic surprise, Wayne serenaded Emily with a rendition of James Arthur’s “Say You Won’t Let Me Go,” which the bride described as her favourite moment of the day. Conversely, Wayne’s favourite moment was when the maid of honour surprised Wayne while he was getting ready for the ceremony with a video Emily had recorded of her singing “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You” by George Benson while playing the ukulele. “He cried in joy because he knows I have zero musical talent and had to practice for months to learn that one song. He thought it was adorable even though I am horrible at singing,” shares the bride. AV and lighting, which included uplighting, gobo lighting, and spotlights on the cake and head table, were provided by klar av inc. Carrie Woodworth and Patrick Tomasi first met through mutual friends in 2008, but it wasn’t until five years later that they began dating. In September of 2013, Carrie was helping set up for a friend’s birthday party when Patrick walked in. “He walked right over to me to say hello and gave me a big hug. I got butterflies in my stomach. We had an instant connection,” she shares. They talked throughout the party, touching on topics like movies, specifically Under the Tuscan Sun. The next morning, Carrie woke up, turned on the TV, and there was Under the Tuscan Sun. “I couldn’t believe it. This was the universe giving me a sign.” After that fateful party, the two began talking on the phone every night, which eventually led to their first date at a Canucks game followed by dinner at the flying pig in Yaletown.
Carrie’s Legends by Romona Keveza gown was purchased from bisou bridal. She accessorized with Christian Louboutin shoes, a pearl and crystal art deco-inspired belt from promise bridal, and a Swarovski crystal hair vine, earrings, and a bracelet, all designed by Elsa Corsi and purchased from jeweliette. Patrick wore an Ike Behar tuxedo from the tux store.

atrick planned the ultimate proposal. One morning, he convinced one of Carrie’s friends to take her on a spa day under the guise that he was spending the day golfing. Rather than heading to the course, Patrick drove to Carrie’s parents’ house where he asked them for their permission to marry Carrie. Of course, they said yes. Later that day when Carrie returned home, she found the living room aglow with flickering candles and Patrick dressed in a suit standing next to the fireplace, holding a bouquet of long stem roses and a card. On either side of him were their beloved pugs, Kona and Surfer. He handed her the “beautiful, heartfelt” card, asked her to read it, and when she was finished, he got down on one knee and proposed. After catching her breath, Carrie happily said, “YES!” and the two enjoyed a romantic engagement dinner at la piazza dario, the same restaurant where Patrick’s parents celebrated their first wedding anniversary. The couple were wed on June 3, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Geneve McNally of dreamgroup productions inc. provided full event planning services. “Geneve was an amazing planner for us. She did an absolutely outstanding job from start to finish. I cannot thank her and her team enough for all that they did for me,” says Carrie. Carrie and Patrick were wed in a candlelit ceremony at the vancouver club officiated by Marilyn Knipp. Patrick walked down the aisle to “Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin and Carrie walked in to “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses, both performed by a string quartet from musical occasions. “Our ceremony was a mix of true love and emotion, amazing energy, and humour. Marilyn touched on God, finding true love at any age, and loving the life you make on this journey together,” shares Carrie. She even presented the couple with a beautiful glass heart that was then passed around to their guests as a way of transferring love, blessings, and positive energy to the bride and groom.
Ceremony decor featured two 8-ft tall gold vases overflowing with fresh white florals from Flowerz, along with pillar candles. Similar arrangements flanked the altar, in front of sheer black draping from koncept event design. The couple exchanged vows while standing on a custom-monogrammed vinyl medallion floor sticker, while guests sat in gold Grace chairs.
The bridesmaids wore black floor-length gowns from nordstorm, paired with Elsa Corsi bracelets and earrings from jeweliette.
The couple’s signature drinks were aptly called “Mr. Big” (an Old Fashioned) and “Carrie” (a custommade cocktail with white rum, fresh lime, prosecco with bitters, and a hint of maple syrup). Cocktail cards by love by phoebe.

The cocktail hour and after-party were both held in The Grill at the vancouver club. All furniture used during the cocktail hour, in addition to candles, candleholders, and linens, were provided by Koncept Event Design.

A NOD TO SEX AND THE CITY
Carrie and Patrick’s gold, black, and ivory colour scheme was perfectly in tune with their wishes for a glam, black tie affair, but also served as a nod to Sex and the City. The newlyweds even made their grand entrance at the reception to the show’s popular theme song. “We wanted to have some fun because my name is Carrie and it’s one of my favourite shows, not to mention that my husband has been told a number of times he looks like Chris Noth,” explains Carrie. Mirrored black gallery tables from koncept event design were intermixed with round tables with black velvet linen. Sheer black draping from Koncept Event Design hung behind and in front of a cake alcove, reaching almost 20-ft tall.
Gold charger plates and black silk napkins from Koncept Event Design and white menus with gold and black detailing from love by phoebe completed each place setting.

WEDLUXE.COM The cake alcove was a showstopper. A 9-ft tall gold frame from Koncept Event Design featuring a floral garland from Flowerz framed the cake. The five-tier confection prepared by the cake & the giraffe included handmade sugar anemones and a different design on each tier, including the couple’s monogram surrounded by edible gilding.
END NOTES
One thing’s for certain, guests were well fed at Carrie and Patrick’s celebration! As self-professed foodies, the food (and wine) kept on coming! First, there was a four-course Italian dinner prepared by the vancouver club. Then, there was an Italian-inspired dessert bar designed by flowerz and koncept event design that sat in the main lobby. It included sugar buns (which also happens to be a cute nickname for the bride) from the fairmont pacific rim’s giovane café + eatery + market, as well as macarons, mini tiramisus, lemon tarts, truffles, biscotti, and fruit and cheese platters, all prepared by The Vancouver Club. There was also a mobile barista station with jj bean coffee roasters coffee and espressos, a grappa and limoncello bar, and a gelato station made out of ice from cool creations that served gelato from legendary Vancouver gelateria, la casa gelato. Finally, fresh pizzas straight from the pizza ovens at The Vancouver Club were served at the after-party as a late-night snack. According to the bride, “Patrick and I very much enjoyed planning all of these special treats for our guests. We really had fun wine tasting and food tasting at the Club to get to create the perfect variety for our special day.” DJ Pri from girl on wax provided her services throughout the reception and after-party and life studios inc. provided their cinematography services to capture all of the festivities. adam and kev photography provided a portrait studio, the photos from which were put into a book and given to the bride and groom as a keepsake. In addition, a photo of each couple taken in the portrait studio was framed and gifted to guests as wedding favors. The couple is in the midst of planning a month-long honeymoon to Italy and currently resides in North Vancouver, where Carrie is a healthcare administrator and Patrick works at a car dealership.
