Think Pink It’s no secret that pink has always been the unquestionable runner-up to white when it comes to winning wedding popularity contests, but this year, nobody is putting baby (pink) in the corner! At the risk of stating the obvious, pink is having a MAJOR worldwide moment and we couldn’t be any happier to join the wave. Designers (and consumers) of all genres have embraced their inner femininity to the point that a whole generation has become ubiquitously linked with pink. Millennial Pink sound familiar? Or maybe you prefer Tumblr Pink, or Scandi Pink? Just a few weeks ago, the colour pink dominated at Milan Design Week 2017, a globally-recognized event where the latest and greatest in design collaborations between the worlds of art, furniture, and fashion converge. The standout star (and most instagrammed!) was a giant pink tropical bed installation by artist Marc Ange (I die!). There were so many other pinkhued notables presented by big name influencers that it’s safe to say pink is now the most sought-after colour in high-end furniture design.
But that’s not all. From the series of powder pink silk frocks Alessandro Michele showed at label-of-the-moment Gucci, to the vibrant and sculptural magenta creations by boundary-pushing labels Delpozo and Vetements, rosy shades also continue to flood the international runways. So, yes, we’re seeing things through some very rose-coloured glasses right now and judging by the nine incredibly gorgeous Glitterati Style File photoshoots produced by our esteemed WedLuxe Glitterati members, they are too. From The Beverly Hills Hotel-inspired “Sunset Boulevard” on page 174, to the coral and citrus pink-hued tones of “Amalfi Amore” on page 212, we know you’ll find heaps of fresh wedding inspiration. I especially love how pink is showing up in beauty trends too. On page 234, my friend and makeup artist Victoria Radford (former personal makeup artist for Fergie, by the way) showcases her mad skills and shares the hottest pink-hued beauty trends in “Pink Kiss,” photographed by longtime WedLuxe contributor Mike Caringi from 5ive15ifteen Photo Company. Talk about a dream team! I know, I know, you’re probably attached at the hip to your rose gold iPhone, but I’m hoping you’ll enjoy a quiet moment to savour this issue. I suggest you pour yourself the “It” drink of the summer—a frosé (of course)—and start dreaming… the best is yet to come.

espite knowing each other their whole lives, Victoria Ussher and Josiah Clingen’s relationship didn’t begin until the fall of 2014, when Josiah began frequenting a weekly Bible study held at Victoria’s family home. Little by little, they grew to know and admire one another, and within a year, they had become inseparable. Almost two years later, Josiah called Victoria out of the blue to suggest a trip to the Scarborough Bluffs, the scene of their first-ever date, where the couple went for a hike with Victoria’s rescue dog, Duke. On their return, they revisited the lighthouse where they sat and talked for a while. As the sun began to set, Josiah suggested they take a picture and began to set up what Victoria thought was a timer for the shot. At that moment, he knelt down on one knee and asked Victoria to be his wife. The guise of the timed photograph turned out to be a video recording, which captured the entire event for them to rewatch for years to come. The wedding took place on February 24, 2017 at whistle bear golf club in Cambridge, Ontario. Whistle Bear Special Events Manager, Raylene Laub provided same-day coordination for the event. With both sets of parents in the local wedding industry (Victoria’s parents own premier event tent rentals inc., while Josiah’s mother Rachel is behind rachel a. clingen wedding & event design, and his father David owns eventure custom environments and event draping, where Josiah, too, works), there was no doubt that the occasion would be one for the record books. paper & poste designed a custom invitation featuring an insignia with a floral motif and calligraphy-inspired monogram. Heritage blue, the shade of the bridesmaids’ gowns, was incorporated into the stationery suite.
The groom’s mother, Rachel Clingen of rachel a. clingen wedding & event design, provided full-service floral and decor for the wedding.
Josiah wore Hugo Boss formalwear from harry rosen with a Fossil watch, upon which Victoria had engraved “I Choose You Every Time,” along with their wedding date, as her wedding gift to him.

SENTIMENTAL CEREMONY
The couple were married in the Rose Room at whistle bear golf club in a personalized ceremony officiated by Pastor Vince Giraldi, a longtime friend and youth leader at their church. Following the ring bearer, her beloved canine companion, Duke, Victoria walked down an aisle customdesigned by paper & poste and installed by event graffiti. The printed aisle runner mimicked the whitewashed barn board featured throughout the venue and was accented with the floral motif found on the couple’s invitations and day-of stationery. The aisle was additionally accented with flowers and candlelit lanterns. Victoria and Josiah exchanged vows beneath a spectacular floral canopy designed by rachel a. clingen wedding & event design composed of garden roses, mixed greenery, and wooden branches that was flanked by two large floral arrangements in oversized crystal vases.

Victoria wore a Casablanca gown from richmond hill bridal boutique. The bridesmaids wore heritage blue gowns from david’s bridal, a shade that was incorporated throughout the wedding decor.
Victoria’s wedding band and custom-made engagement ring were both purchased from josef designs. Josiah’s ring was his father’s original wedding band, which was passed down to him for the special occasion.
“By far my favourite part of the wedding was the moment I turned to walk up the aisle and saw Josiah at the altar. I was overcome with emotion as our eyes connected. Our engagement wasn’t overly long, but it really felt like we had waited forever for that moment.” –victoria

“I wanted our reception to be elegant but not over-the-top. I love rustic details, yet I did not want the day to feel casual. I was confident that Rachel would design something beautiful, but not ostentatious or frilly.” – victoria
A mix of birch and heritage China charger plates adorned every table for a textured feel, and the decor’s signature heritage blue colour was highlighted in elegant taper candles and other small details such as charger plates and water goblets.
RUSTIC WONDERLAND The wedding reception took place in whistle bear golf club’s Forest View Room. With her new motherin-law Rachel Clingen handling the floral and decor for the reception, Victoria knew she was in capable hands. The end result was an elegant event that struck the perfect balance between rustic and refined, just as the bride imagined. The room was custom-draped by Josiah’s father’s company, eventure custom environments and event draping, to give the space a more intimate feel and to section off the lounge and dessert area. The lounge area featured cozy, brown tufted couches and sleek, white, high-top tables provided by divine furniture rental. Linens by around the table. Charger plates, water goblets, and dinnerware by plate occasions.

The dance floor, produced and installed by event graffiti, showcased a design by paper & poste, which, similar to the ceremony aisle runner, featured a whitewashed barn board pattern, echoing the interiors of the venue, as well as the couple’s custom monogram, and a Bible verse of special sentiment to the pair. As a personal touch, close family friends provided the musical entertainment by singing and playing acoustic guitar throughout the evening.

The sweet spot of the reception was undoubtedly the dessert table, which featured a spread of cakes, macaron towers, chocolate glazed donuts, pistachio rose pavlovas, strawberry tarts, cake pops, chocolate pecan truffles, madeleines, beignets, biscotti, limoncello cookies, and salted caramel profiteroles, all from fine cakes by zehra. At the end of the night, guests left with freshly-baked cookies from whistle bear golf club in bags featuring a custom label by Paper & Poste. Cinematography was provided by twilight exposures. On the evening following the wedding, the newlyweds departed for their honeymoon in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, where they stayed at the grand sunset princess resort and enjoyed the sunshine, the beautiful views, and all that the luxurious resort had to offer. The couple currently resides in Tottenham, Ontario, where Victoria is a Behavioural Sciences student and Josiah is the General Manager for eventure custom environments and event draping.

d&d floral designs inc. provided all of the floral and decor for the wedding, including Angela’s luxurious, oversized bouquet of white spray roses, lisianthus, ranunculus, and garden roses, the latter of which is the bride’s favourite flower. “The bouquet was huge, almost triple the size of my bridesmaids’ bouquets!” notes Angela.
H
igh school sweethearts Angela Pretotto and Thomas Marchese first met in 2003. Eleven years later, upon Angela’s graduation from law school, Thomas whisked her away on a romantic Italian vacation. Their first stop was the island of Capri, and it was there, beneath the Faraglioni rocks, that Thomas asked Angela to be his forever. The wedding took place on August 20, 2016 in Vaughan, Ontario. Wassal Seddiqi of petals and pearls provided full event planning services. “I had been introduced to Wassal at other weddings I had attended and found her to be extremely sweet. She genuinely cares about your event and truly is one of the best in the wedding industry,” shares the bride.
Angela wore sheer, embellished Rene Caovilla heels that she purchased in Rome.
Angela’s Berta gown was purchased and customized at powder in Toronto. The bridesmaids wore pale nude Terani Couture gowns and accessorized with custom-made earrings and bracelets from Tara Fava Jewellery.
After falling in love with two different invitation designs from your occasion, Angela and Thomas decided to use both. The first, an acrylic mirrored invitation set inside a black velvet box, was distributed to bridal shower guests, while the second, a thick cardstock invitation with gold foil lettering and trim on a white backing, was mailed to wedding guests.

A GLAM, CANDLELIT AFFAIR
d&d floral designs inc. used bold pops of black, crisp whites, and shiny metallic silver accented with floral arrangements reminiscent of an enchanted forest. The focal point of the reception was the candlelit wall that stood behind the head table, radiating a warm glow throughout the room. The wall itself was actually a large black bookcase from dream party decor inc., installed by D&D Floral Designs Inc. Atop the bookcase sat an abundance of natural florals and greenery. Five opulent chandeliers from r5 event design were suspended above the head table. According to the bride, “Almost every table had a different design element,� which predominantly extended to the centrepieces found throughout. While some tables contained simple bouquets of white florals and greenery in low silver vases, others featured cascading florals that ran across the table. Guests dined at a mixture of rectangular, square, serpentine, and round tables from higgins event rentals that were covered in silver linens from susan murray international, ranging from velvet tablecloths to metallic runners, and surrounded by three different types of chairs, all from detailz couture event rentals. Each place setting featured a charger plate from Detailz Couture Event Rentals, napkins from Susan Murray International, and stemware from Universal EventSpace. Finally, inside the pouch of each napkin was a customized marbleprint menu from Your Occasion that matched a pair of gourmet marble chocolates from succulent chocolates and sweets that served as wedding favors. These white marble accents could be found throughout the reception, and also extended to the bar and place cards.

nadia & co~ collaborated with d&d floral designs inc. to create an impressive six-tier white wedding cake with cascading sugar flowers that perfectly matched the reception’s decor. The cake was not the only treat guests had the opportunity to indulge in. universal eventspace prepared a four-course meal that included two types of pasta, lobster tail, and rib eye steak, not to mention the trio of desserts and gelato, pizza, cake, burgers, fries, and poutine that were rolled out as part of a series of late-night snack stations. Cannolis were also served as a late-night treat and were prepared by the big cannoli. Luxurious black draping from enzo mercuri designs lined the perimeter of the space, creating an unparalleled sense of drama and intimacy that perfectly complemented the customized glossy black dance floor featuring the couple’s monogram in matte black. The dance floor, designed by your occasion and installed by event graffiti, provided Angela with one of her most cherished moments of the day. “I’ll never forget dancing the night away with my new husband to some of our favourite songs,” recalls the bride. For their honeymoon, Angela and Thomas embarked on a tropical island getaway, touring the tranquil islands of French Polynesia. Throughout their time in Tahiti, Moorea, Taha’a, and Bora Bora, the couple stayed at numerous luxurious hotels that included the hilton moorea lagoon resort & spa, le taha’a island resort and spa, and the st. regis bora bora resort. The couple currently resides in Nobleton, Ontario where Angela is a lawyer and Thomas is a business owner.

harmaine Kwong and Andrew Chung met in Toronto at a mutual friend’s birthday party in 2013. While the circumstances of their first encounter may have been somewhat ordinary, Andrew’s proposal was everything but. It was roughly two and a half years later while on a trip to Venice, Italy that Andrew proposed to Charmaine on a hot and humid Italian day. The two had just finished exploring Piazza San Marco when a private boat pulled up beside them. The couple boarded the boat that was transporting them to Hotel Cipriani, where Charmaine thought the two were going to dinner to celebrate her birthday. After exploring the hotel’s romantic garden, Andrew found the perfect spot to ask the most important question of his life. As Andrew got down on one knee, Charmaine realized what was happening and tears began to fill her eyes. Andrew retrieved a black box from his pocket, and as he presented her with the ring, he said, “Char, you are the most thoughtful, kind, lovely, intelligent, and beautiful human being I know. There is no one else I’d rather spend the rest of my life with.” After Charmaine excitedly replied, “yes,” Andrew introduced her to the photographer he had hired to capture the proposal. The newly-engaged couple then had an impromptu engagement shoot, followed by oceanside drinks and a seven-course tasting menu overlooking the Venetian sunset. It was nothing short of perfect. The wedding took place on August 27, 2016 in Toronto, Ontario. Laura Atendido of laura & co. events provided full planning services.
Andrew designed Charmaine’s engagement ring himself. The emerald cut diamond stunner had a double halo and pavé diamond band. He even incorporated a heart into the setting, “designed to mimic a Venetian bridge,” shares Charmaine. The ring was purchased from select diamond imports.
Charmaine and Andrew’s customized double-sided invitations were designed by paper & poste and featured a fun map, which at the bride and groom’s request, noted all McDonald’s locations near the venue.

Charmaine’s second dress, worn during the traditional Chinese tea ceremony, was a family heirloom. It was originally handmade in Hong Kong for her grandmother to wear on her wedding day. It was then passed down to the bride’s mother, and then to the bride, who shares that it is believed “if you wear the same gown as a woman who has a fulfilling and happy marriage, that you will also have a great marriage.” To complement the customized tea ceremony dress, the bride wore gold flats by Roger Vivier and gold Love bracelets from cartier, which were gifts from her mother and grandmother.
Following the ceremony, guests made their way to the granite club, where both the cocktail hour and wedding reception took place.

rachel a. clingen wedding & event design provided all of the floral and decor for the wedding, including Charmaine’s organic bouquet of raspberry-hued garden roses, pink ranunculus and dahlias, purple Vanda orchids, and mixed trailing greens. The bouquet was tied with cascading fuchsia ribbons that provided an added pop of colour.
A FLORAL ODE TO VENICE rachel a. clingen wedding & event design transformed the granite club’s Grand Ballroom into a modern take on a Venetian garden. The bride and groom sat beneath a custom-made 20-ft pink canopy tree made up of cherry blossom stems, wisteria, roses, and mixed foliage with cascading florals wrapped around the trunk. Romantic white uplighting and draping from eventure custom environments and event draping provided additional drama. The arrangement’s “impressive design had guests swooning,” shares event planner Laura Atendido.

Taking inspiration from the Venetian garden in which Andrew proposed, vibrant pink floral arrangements with purple accents and fresh foliage filled the room from top to bottom. Low groupings of pink floral arrangements alongside a combination of modern crystal candelabras and varying-height crystal candleholders with pink pillar candles, acted as centrepieces on the gallery tables provided by detailz couture event rentals.

In addition to the organic foliage that served as an homage to Italian flora, hand-tied mini baguettes with a rosemary sprig were prepared by the Granite Club for every guest. Tableware, flatware, and stemware were provided by the Granite Club.
For added height, round tables from the granite club featured two types of arrangements that mirrored those at the ceremony. One contained a sea of pink and purple florals and greenery, while the other consisted of simple yet beautiful pink cherry blossom stems. Both arrangements were set inside tall, narrow crystal vases, giving off the illusion that they were floating.
Table numbers and menus were designed by paper & poste and featured the pink and white floral motif from the couple’s invitations.
The gold Tiffany chairs, gold-rimmed charger plates, gallery tables, and gold-rimmed dessert table were provided by detailz couture event rentals.

The gelato cart, supplied by sweethearts sugar carts, was rolled out as a late-night snack and was customized with a graphic design by paper & poste that mimicked the floral motif used on the couple’s stationery.
A SWEET SENDOFF
The couple’s dessert table was nothing short of divine. Their love of travel was evident, not only through the selection of sweets but also through the wedding cake design. The pristine five-tier cake from truffle cake & pastry featured a white finish, cascading sugar flowers in complementary blush pink and raspberry hues, and the pièce de résistance, an edible gold foil map. The regal sweets table, like the decor, was accented with metallic gold in the form of edible gold flecks that topped an array of treats, including mini donuts, brownies, cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, cake pops, and French macarons, all of which were prepared by Truffle Cake & Pastry. Cinematography was provided by hidden light films. For their honeymoon, the groom planned a romantic getaway to northern California. He surprised the bride by announcing their honeymoon destination via a short video clip that he uploaded to her iPhone on their wedding day. The newlyweds first spent time in San Francisco, before driving to Sonoma and Napa, staying in multiple romantic bed and breakfasts along the way. Although the vineyards and wine tastings were lovely, it was the incredible dining experiences at world-renowned restaurants the french laundry, atelier crenn, commis, and the restaurant at meadowood, that truly made the trip one-of-a-kind. The couple resides in North York where Charmaine is a dentist and Andrew is a head of product management.

Later in the night, Charmaine changed into a third gown designed by Hervé Leger. Kate’s customized ines di santo ball gown was purchased at the designer’s Toronto flagship and was worn with three different pairs of shoes throughout the day’s events. The first, nude Manolo Blahnik heels purchased at neiman marcus, the second, white bridal Ugg boots embellished with Swarovski crystals and purchased from Neiman Marcus, and the third, blinged-out Converse wedge sneakers purchased from etsy.

ate Chazan and Ian Rosen first met in 2008 while on a Birthright trip to Israel. During an evening spent visiting a kibbutz, Ian finally got up the courage to talk to Kate. “Maybe it was the kosher wine or the fact that the entire bus had a stomach bug except for the two of us, but we absolutely hit it off and spent the entire night getting to know one another,” recalls Ian. Despite the trip coming to an end shortly thereafter, the two continued talking nonstop for the rest of the summer. In the fall, Kate returned to university in Quebec and Ian to university in Ontario, but by that point, the two were smitten, making a seven-hour drive on the 401 feel like nothing! Seven years later, Ian was ready to propose to the love of his life. Unwilling to compromise between capturing a photo of the engagement and the romance of a surprise proposal, Ian concocted the perfect plan. While on their way to a family dinner in Toronto, he told Kate that his parents were running late and asked if she wanted to go for a quick stroll. As the two were walking by the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal (part of the royal ontario museum) on Bloor Street, Ian sat Kate down on a bench and dropped onto one knee. He asked her to marry him and slipped the ring onto her finger, all the while a photographer in disguise was on hand to capture the entire moment. “The best part, though, was the fact that fourteen months later to the day, we stood in front of the crystal taking those same photos but in a wedding dress and tuxedo,” shares Ian. The dim glow of candlelight coupled with the luxe white draping provided by micki’s, a division of event rental group, created a romantic ambiance that was perfect for the bride’s dramatic entrance to Adele’s “One and Only.”

CEREMONY NOTES
The couple were married in Peter F. Bronfman Hall at the royal ontario museum (rom). To perfectly complement the gilding of the ROM, metallic gold accents were incorporated into both the ceremony and reception decor. Kate and Ian said “I do” beneath a 10-ft tall x 10-ft wide statement chuppah covered in gold and white magnolia leaves. stemz provided all of the floral and decor for the wedding. “The chuppah was simple in that it only used one floral element but was done at such a mass that it created a striking presence,” shares event planner Melissa Baum. Magnolia trees, grand gold candleholders, and amber Ghost chairs from contemporary furniture rentals inc. lined the aisle surrounding the chuppah, while a white aisle runner and white stage cover from reznick carpets tied in with the monochromatic venue.

The bridesmaids wore black floor-length gowns of their own choosing. The groomsmen wore customized Munroe Tailoring formalwear from harry rosen and white and navy houndstooth Dion suspenders from Harry Rosen. Each tuxedo was personalized with names, initials, and custom lining.
The cocktail hour and wedding reception also took place at the rom. Surrounded by the museum’s impressive dinosaur collection, guests mingled and enjoyed food and cocktails in the Hyacinth Gloria Chen Crystal Court. The space was covered in metallic decor elements, including gold acrylic cruiser tables and tufted gold velvet sofas, coffee tables, and stools from contemporary furniture rentals inc.
Before entering the reception hall, the bride and groom’s 300 guests were encouraged to indulge in a raw seafood bar, a dim sum station, and a variety of hors d’oeuvres including mini Reuben sandwiches, mac and cheese fritters, and mini Big Mac hamburgers. Despite the delicious food prepared by l-eat and the room’s candlelit glow, all eyes were on the gold-framed round bar with a tall, luxe arrangement of greenery and magnolia blooms in the centre.

GOLDEN HOUR stemz created a warm and opulent candlelit setting within the Samuel Hall Currelly Gallery using gold Ghost chairs from contemporary furniture rentals inc. and a mixture of long and round tables from chair-man mills,
the latter of which were topped with customized gold candelabras that resembled woven branches and held seven white taper candles. Vines made out of gold leaves adorned each candelabra.

L-eat prepared a customized three-course meal for guests that began with a warm goat cheese salad with kale, zucchini, farro, toasted pine nuts, and mint pesto vinaigrette. For the main course, guests were given a choice of beef tenderloin or a vegetarian option. Finally, the meal concluded with a dessert trio. In addition, a late-night station serving scaramouche’s iconic coconut cream pie, that had been picked up by L-eat at the restaurant earlier that day and taken to the rom, was rolled out as a surprise treat. Given the spectacular menu, it’s no surprise that the bride considered the food to be the most luxurious aspect of their special day. Guests went home with a treat that served as an ode to Kate and Ian’s current home: world-famous cheddar and caramel Chicago mix popcorn from garrett popcorn shops. Guests danced the night away with the help of DJ Apple Scratch and live band, saturday night jive, the latter of which performed a jaw-dropping version of “God Only Knows” for the couple’s first dance and created a special hora mashup that included the Game of Thrones theme song. Cinematography was provided by freshsox. Overall, Kate and Ian’s wedding was a dream come true, one that they felt was an honest representation of themselves and their journey as a couple. According to the groom, “Throughout the entire wedding planning process, we had a constant feeling of nostalgia that allowed us to look back on almost nine years of being together. We also had a blast being able to sneak in a lot of our favourite things, like the Scaramouche coconut cream pie bar prepared by L-eat and a late-night DJ set so we could keep the party going until 2 am.” For their honeymoon, Kate and Ian went on the trip-of-a-lifetime to Africa. Beginning in Zambia, the couple saw the magnificent Victoria Falls before heading to South Africa, where they explored the region’s wineries, went cage diving with great white sharks, hiked up Cape Town’s Table Mountain, slept 20 feet from hippos, and went on 12 different game drives allowing them to see lions, leopards, elephants and more. “It could not have been a better way to escape after the wedding,” recalls the bride. Upon returning home, the couple settled into married life in Chicago where Kate and Ian both work in management consulting.

eronica King and Craig Geerlinks first met in 2006 while Veronica was in university. Veronica was close friends with Craig’s sister, and one day he asked for his sister to introduce him to Veronica. Despite the fact that Craig was living in the United States and playing professional hockey, the couple both knew it was meant to be. Ten years later, Craig and Veronica were getting ready for a trip to the Dominican Republic. As is customary for the London, Ontario-based pair, they took a short trip to Toronto in the days before their flight. Craig made reservations at gusto 101, Veronica’s favourite restaurant in the city. After dinner, Veronica wanted to hit the town but Craig insisted they return to the hotel room. Upon arriving at the hotel, Veronica opened the door to their suite and was awestruck to find the room covered in rose petals, with chocolate, charcuterie, and champagne awaiting her. As their Toronto rendezvous happened to coincide with Valentine’s Day, Veronica still had no idea that Craig was going to propose. Veronica was about to pop open the champagne when she turned around and saw Craig down on one knee. He proposed, and she excitedly replied, “yes!” The wedding took place on February 18, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. Melissa Baum of melissa baum events provided full event planning services.

rachel a. clingen wedding & event design brought the Grand Banking Hall to life, creating a chic and modern setting that utilized a sleek black and white colour scheme. The bride’s one request for an abundance of flowers was certainly fulfilled. White, rectangular plexiglass boxes of crisp white tulips were juxtaposed with tall, cylindrical vases overflowing with white cherry blossom branches for a clean and contemporary, yet spring-like aesthetic. For a hint of romance, clear plexiglass boxes containing white candles sat beside low hedges of tulips that comprised the long table centrepieces, while tall crystal candlesticks complemented the cherry blossom arrangements that made up the round table centrepieces. The bride noted that her second favourite moment of the day, after walking down the aisle, “was seeing the reception room for the first time. My jaw dropped and I was completely blown away.” Between the striped black border on the white vases from Rachel A. Clingen Wedding & Event Design, the regal black table runners from around the table, and the detailed black glass chargers and modern black Ghost chairs, both from detailz couture event rentals, graphic pops of black were as far as the eye could see. In contrast, white satin linens and white napkins from Around the Table and monochrome menus with a grey marble motif from paperdoll studio adorned each table.

The four-tier marble-print cake by nadia & co~ was adorned with cascading three-dimensional white sugar anemones and peonies, and edible gold leaves. The cake was made up of three distinct flavours that ranged from chocolate cake with raspberry buttercream and fresh raspberries to coconut cake with lemon lavender mascarpone cream and toasted coconut. Two single tier cakes flanked either side. According to the bride, “The two smaller cakes were intended to help showcase the big anemone sugar flowers, and after the wedding both of our moms received them as a keepsake.” In addition to the decadent dessert table, the custom-made dance floor certainly caught the attention of guests. The contrasting dance floor, produced and installed by event graffiti, perfectly complemented the wedding’s crisp and clean theme, and featured a black border with a black square in the centre containing the couple’s monogram in simple block letters. big ticket productions provided their cinematography services. magen boys entertainment provided lighting and DJ services. Overall, Veronica’s wishes for a modern, chic wedding that gave the feeling of “walking into an Oscars after-party,” certainly came true. For their honeymoon, the couple plan to embark on a 20-day adventure to South Africa this fall. The trip will begin in Cape Town and be followed by a few days on safari before relaxing in wine country. For now, the couple resides in London, Ontario where Veronica is a sales executive and Craig is the owner of a home hardware.

Nearly ten years later, Nancy and Hooman were on vacation in Spain. The two were travelling throughout the country, and Hooman was waiting for the perfect location to propose. Eventually, he settled on the mountaintop city of Ronda. After dropping off their luggage at the hotel, Hooman insisted that they go for a walk. The pair headed to a historic bridge that connects the old city with the new city, and when they were alone, Hooman got down on one knee and proposed. “I was completely surprised,” shares the bride, “There we were alone on the bridge of this beautiful city with nothing but the moon and stars shining above.” The wedding took place on August 14, 2016 in Toronto, Ontario at the royal conservatory. Lianne Adelson of the event boutique planned Nancy and Hooman’s dream wedding in just ten weeks. The couple were forced to abandon the destination wedding they had originally planned in Jamaica just two months prior, and instead organize a summer wedding in their hometown of Toronto. According to the bride, “Planning a wedding in ten weeks was a race to the finish line,” but luckily, everything came together and the couple were able to bring the lush flora of Jamaica to downtown Toronto.

Here, stemz brought the outdoors in with 6-ft tall Benjamina ficus trees that lined the perimeter of the space. Pretty pink and green centrepieces were accented with winding passion vine and pops of ivy for a garden-inspired tablescape.

Guests went home with party favors consisting of two handmade gourmet chocolates from succulent chocolates and sweets. The favor was secured with a black ribbon and a navy blue custom-made tag from minted.
Catering was provided by daniel et daniel catering & events and included a threecourse meal consisting of spiced watermelon blackberry salad, pistachio-crusted rack of lamb, and tempura halibut. The three-tier cake from patricia’s cake creations featured a ruffled bottom tier, a gold pearl border, and a “Mr & Mrs” gold glitter cake topper designed by bash & co. The cake was made up of two flavours. The first, vanilla cake with mango passion fruit buttercream, and the second, a mocha cake with dulce de leche buttercream. Guests were also treated to peach pound cake with brown sugar bourbon ice cream and blackberry gastrique, and a deconstructed crème fraîche cheesecake with blueberry sorbet, lemon curd graham crumbs, Ontario blueberries, and fennel crisp. DJ Double AA provided music for the reception and images life media provided cinematography services. The happily married couple resides in Toronto, where they both work as dentists.

atthew Meisner and Rick Bettencourt first met at a holiday party in 2012. Three years later, the pair were on a romantic trip to New York City, and while enjoying a post-dinner cocktail in the lobby of the maritime hotel, Rick proposed to Matthew. The wedding took place on September 24, 2016 in Toronto, Ontario. The grooms hired Jodi Gagné of simply perfect as their day-of event coordinator, choosing to put their creative backgrounds to good use and plan their own wedding. “We were involved in every aspect of the wedding, from the plating of the food to the decor transitions throughout the day,” shares Matthew.
Matthew and Rick designed the wedding stationery themselves through bettencourt manor, the design company they both run. Each invite was made of croc-embossed leather and featured gold foil typography, a solid marble save-the-date, and a marble-effect white, black, and gold graphic envelope printed by global imaging. Invitations were then sealed with customized gold stickers adorned with the couple’s monogram in black, which were also designed by Bettencourt Manor and printed by Global Imaging. “Our solid marble save-thedates and leather invites really set the tone for the event before guests arrived,” recalls Rick.

The couple were married in the Library at the university club of toronto where they exchanged personalized vows in front of their closest friends and family. Gold Chiavari chairs with white cushions were provided by chair-man mills. The black and white striped aisle runner is from the grooms’ own company, bettencourt manor. gta strings provided the string quartet that played during the ceremony. Bookshelves decorated with heirloom family photos, whitewashed books, and an assortment of gems, minerals, and geodes lined the perimeter of the space.
The two said “I do” in front of a romantic fireplace, atop which was a cascading floral arrangement of white hydrangea and green amaranthus.

After the ceremony, guests were treated to a retro, ‘50s-themed cocktail hour complete with period music, vinyl-printed acrylic cruiser tables from gervais party & tent rentals, and a bar front and accent pillows adorned with a lion head door knocker motif from Bettencourt Manor’s textile brand, Heirloom & Knot. At this point, Matthew and Rick stepped out in striking powder blue jackets as an ode to ‘50s fashion. Instead of posing for formal wedding portraits as many couples do during this window of time on their wedding day, the couple attended the cocktail hour and interacted with their guests, making it one of the pair’s favourite moments of the day.

The reception space was decorated in a sleek black, white, and gold colour scheme. Three long, rectangular tables were topped with graphic black and white striped table runners from bettencourt manor and surrounded by gold Chiavari chairs. Flowers and potted plants of varying sizes served as centrepieces. The arrangements were designed by the grooms and installed by benny & viv. Each place setting featured gold dinnerware from chair-man mills, monogrammed chargers from bowring, and customized agate slab place cards purchased at 1agateslices, featuring gold calligraphy by cecile lau calligraphy.

“We wanted to strike the right balance between masculinity and tradition, decorating the space with custom-designed textiles and prints that felt grand in design but spoke to our aesthetics.” –matthew
The spiral stone staircase, in front of which sat the magnificent wedding cake, was undoubtedly a focal point and lead guests from the ceremony to the cocktail hour. Matthew and Rick wanted the area to feel inclusive of the event decor so they transformed it using a lush, hand-tied garland of seeded eucalyptus, Italian Ruscus, and garden greens, as well as removable printed wallpaper by Heirloom & Knot. The regal six-tier cake designed by Matthew and Rick and prepared by the wedding cake shoppe was inspired by the textile prints Matthew created for Heirloom & Knot. Each layer of the grand white cake was adorned with a distinct, yet intricate design that ranged from gold marble foiling to black and white graphic prints. The cake was finished off with an edible, three-dimensional lion head door knocker, a motif that extended to the cocktail hour. In an effort to further tie in the food with the decor, the three-course menu prepared by the university club of toronto included dishes with graphic accents, such as the white and black striped bow tie pasta served with rustic tomato sauce, chèvre, and glazed pecans, which complemented the striped table runners at the reception. Other dishes included autumnal carrot and sweet potato soup with a maple cream and chive garnish, and Angus beef tenderloin with a wine reduction sauce, mashed potatoes, warm red cabbage, and seasonal vegetables. Matthew and Rick spent their honeymoon touring the romantic cities and villages of Southern France before returning to their home in Toronto, where Matthew is an interior and textile designer and Rick is a retail vice president.

laine Chen and Vantic Zhou first met in 2009 via Chinese instant-messaging app, QQ. Elaine was having difficulty mastering levels of various mobile games in between classes, and so a fellow classmate recommended she reach out to his friend Vantic, who happened to be a gaming whiz. After an hour-long discussion, Elaine was smitten. “Vantic’s brilliant mind and personality left me with a wonderful first impression,” the bride gushes. Roughly seven years later, Vantic was planning the proposal of a lifetime. As an homage to how they first met, he secretly installed a “Will You Marry Me?” app onto Elaine’s phone and then invited her to a romantic dinner date by the water. During their meal, he asked Elaine to check her phone. She opened the application, and the question immediately flashed on the screen. She excitedly clicked “yes,” just as Vantic got down on one knee, saying those four fateful words in person. The wedding took place on January 23, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. Flora Peng of fleur weddings inc. worked with the couple for three months leading up to the wedding. Despite the challenges of organizing a wedding in such a short time frame, the bride said every single part of the planning process went smoothly due to their wedding planner. “Fleur Weddings was in constant communication with me and looked after every aspect and detail of the wedding. They anticipated our requests and took initiative on many fronts to ensure a successful day,” Elaine shares.

The couple were married in the Conservatory at casa loma where they exchanged vows beneath a spectacular floral canopy designed by rachel a. clingen wedding & event design. The arch was covered in hanging wisteria, in addition to hundreds of roses. Underneath the arch was a Victorian signing table from Luxe Modern Rentals Inc, covered in cascading florals. White French Provincial tables, also from Luxe Modern Rentals Inc., lined the aisle. The bride walked down a custom-made white aisle runner that she had designed, produced by dance floor décor. Though the live string trio from wellington music and the feeling of being surrounded by fresh flowers were certainly memorable, the bride insists that “the most unforgettable moment was when my veil was lifted and the officiant announced that the groom could kiss me.”

THE EPITOME OF VINTAGE ELEGANCE After the high tea cocktail hour had finished, guests were invited to make their way into the Library at casa loma for the reception. Here, the feminine colour palette made up of peach, coral, blush, white, and ivory, extended to the light pink linens from event rental group and was accented with metallic gold in the form of gold and white Louis chairs from detailz couture event rentals and vintage candelabras from Plate Occasions. Rachel A. Clingen Wedding & Event Design created oversized floral arrangements perfectly suited to both the round tables and the rectangular

head table. The centrepieces were overflowing with garden roses, spray roses, ranunculus, and lisianthus, with some including floral rose garlands that wound their way around gold candelabras. The head table had the largest centrepiece of all, situated inside a giant gold vessel and featuring a floral runner that exhibited luxury. Elaine and Vantic admitted that the flowers were by far the most luxurious part of their wedding, even mentioning that they “exceeded guests’ expectations.”
END NOTES
The decadent five-tier wedding cake prepared by Nadia Colella of nadia and co~ featured a hand-painted floral design that mirrored the pink and red roses found on the stationery. It was accented with an edible gold crown molding on the first and second tiers, and incredibly lifelike sugar flowers cascading down the top two tiers. Guests were presented with custom-made favors from fleur weddings inc. comprising Lindt chocolate, handmade chocolate from Nadia and Co~, sloane fine tea merchants tea (a reminder of the wedding’s high tea cocktail hour), and Crabtree & Evelyn hand cream. Fleur Weddings Inc. filled gold-lined blush pink boxes with the items, before wrapping each favor in matching ribbon imported from China. Cinematography was provided by agi studio. Elaine and Vantic are happily enjoying married life while residing in downtown Toronto, where Elaine is a student at the University of Toronto and Vantic is a software developer.

rittany De Zen and Jeffrey Martin first connected through a mutual friend in 2011. Four years later, Jeffrey was planning the proposal of a lifetime. While on a romantic three-week trip to Portugal, Jeffrey asked Brittany to be his forever while on an idyllic beach in the Algarve. In addition to uttering those four precious words out loud, Jeffrey had created a handcrafted sandcastle in the shape of a heart with the words, “Brittany, will you marry me?” written in the sand. The display was surrounded by rose petals and lit candles for the ultimate romantic gesture. Brittany excitedly accepted, and exactly one year later to the day, the two were wed. The wedding took place on August 13, 2016 in Vaughan, Ontario. Diana Pires of truly yours planning provided full event planning services and design assistance for Brittany and Jeffrey’s special day. According to the bride, “The best part of planning the wedding was working with my planner, Diana. She made me so calm and working with her was the only reason I didn’t turn into a total bridezilla! She truly made my wedding day a dream come true and is without a doubt one of the best in the industry.”
Brittany designed her own engagement ring. The 2.68-carat cushion cut diamond was set with a small halo and a thin pavé band. The ring and wedding bands were all purchased from finch centre jewellers.

A SPARKLING LILAC AND SILVER DREAM
The cocktail and wedding reception took place at universal eventspace. A custom English garden entrance with lush hedging and white roses greeted guests, along with valet drivers from gatsby valet, a live DJ provided by s4 entertainment audio/visual, and white lounge furniture from R5 Event Design. In addition, there were eight food stations prepared by Universal EventSpace for guests to indulge in, ranging from a prosciutto and parmigiana carving station to an oyster and vodka bar.

Guests made their way into the beautiful reception through four custom crystal canopies accented with lighting, which elevated the shine of the crystals and overall entrance design. Ivory-draped canopies from enzo mercuri designs lined the perimeter of the room, while more draping, as well as a customized 40-ft tall square crystal chandelier and eighteen smaller traditional crystal chandeliers provided by R5 Event Design, hung from the ceiling for a dramatic effect. “Everyone was mesmerized as they walked into the room, with the majority stopping to marvel at the decor,” recalls event planner Diana Pires. A mixture of round, gallery, and white lacquered serpentine tables adorned with alternating white linens from fos event decor and lavender linens and napkins from event rental group were used to create a romantic sparkle and luxe feel throughout the room. Tables were surrounded by a combination of white Louis XVI chairs, white Grace chairs, and Louis Ghost chairs from detailz couture event rentals, and featured three interchanging floral centrepieces. Crystal charger plates from chair-man mills, square black and silver menus from so pretty in print, and silver table numbers from R5 Event Design finished off the look of each table.
The bride and groom’s modern, white sweetheart table from r5 event design and white tufted loveseat from detailz couture event rentals were situated on a stage at the front of the room. The couple sat beneath a dreamy 48-ft wide arbour covered in lavender, blush, and white wisteria. Nine of the eighteen chandeliers installed at the reception were suspended above the sweetheart table and emanated a stunning sparkle around the newlyweds.

Brittany and Jeffrey’s customized dance floor was designed by so pretty in print and installed by event graffiti. It featured the bride and groom’s names in silver print, along with a purple and white floral motif.
Guests were treated to a five-course meal and a variety of late-night food stations prepared by universal eventspace. Cinematography services were provided by everlasting moments. To the right of the dance floor stood the bride and groom’s lavish seven-tier wedding cake designed by fine cakes by zehra. Featuring cascading white sugar flowers with blush and lavender accents, a lace motif that matched the bride’s dress, and a cutout silver diamond on the fourth tier, this cake was nothing short of magnificent. To finish off the look, the base of the cake table was wrapped in fresh pink and purple florals from r5 event design. The wedding’s lilac and silver colour scheme was further complemented by guest takeaways in the form of purple macarons with silver flecks that adorned each place setting and were prepared by Fine Cakes By Zehra. The newlyweds embarked on a luxurious, 16-day honeymoon to the Pacific islands of Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, and to Los Angeles. “Our honeymoon was amazing! We just wanted to enjoy the sun and relax after a crazy year and that’s exactly what we did. Bora Bora was by far our favourite place,” shares Brittany. Upon their return, the couple settled into their busy lives in Etobicoke where Brittany is a hairstylist and Jeffrey is a supervisor.

ainab Alabbasi and Fahad Ali first locked eyes at a New Year’s Eve party in 2013. After talking for hours and dancing the night away, Fahad asked Zainab out on a date. The two went for coffee shortly thereafter and the rest, as they say, is history. Two years later, Fahad invited Zainab to a romantic birthday dinner at the CN Tower. It was here, against the backdrop of the Toronto skyline, that Fahad asked Zainab to be his wife. When Fahad first retrieved the ring box from his pocket, Zainab assumed it was a special birthday gift rather than an engagement ring and was shocked when she heard Fahad ask “will you marry me?” As soon as the shock wore off, however, she instantly replied, “yes!” The couple were married at the bride’s home four months before their lavish reception, which took place on September 2, 2016 in Toronto, Ontario at bellvue manor. Lemis Hassani of royal orchid florist provided full event planning services for both occasions, and according to the bride, “they did exactly what I asked of them and so much more!”
Royal Orchid Florist provided all floral and decor for the wedding, including Zainab’s unique bouquet that featured a handle fashioned out of silver dollar greenery.

The dance floor featured a design by the bride’s sister. Produced and installed by event graffiti, the dance floor provided some of the best moments of the night, especially once the live band lead by Adel Ogla and DJ Khalid got everyone out of their seats.
A FLORAL-FILLED GARDEN AFFAIR royal orchid florist created a secret garden setting inside bellvue manor that was straight out of a fairytale. Trailing greenery and pastel blooms interspersed with crystal candelabras filled the ballroom. In an effort to bring Zainab’s secret garden theme to life, a stunning 16-ft wide x 8-ft tall wall of greenery stood at one end of the venue, creating an intimate floral-filled stage for the bride and groom. Consisting of seeded eucalyptus, silver dollar eucalyptus, Italian Ruscus, verge greenery from New Zealand, and beautiful white blooms, the floral backdrop was certainly a sight to behold. Two tall crystal candelabras, a white carved loveseat from Royal Orchid Florist, floating
candleholders containing glowing white candles, and two cascading arrangements of pastel roses and greenery made up the rest of the stage decor. Guests sat at round tables from Bellvue Manor that were covered in white linens and silver-rimmed chargers from Royal Orchid Florist, clear Chiavari chairs from Bellvue Manor, and alternating floral centrepieces. The first, a small bouquet of white and pastel blooms interspersed with greenery, and the second, a sculpted arrangement of florals in a tall crystal candelabra mimicking those found on the family tables.
The secret gardeninspired escort cards were designed by the bride’s sister and produced by astley gilbert.
Catering was provided by Bellvue Manor.

Three different flavours of French macarons with an edible floral detail were designed by fine cakes by zehra and served as guest takeaways.

The head table was adorned with a mirrored runner, silver chargers, and champagne linens, all from royal orchid florist, as well as Louis Ghost chairs from bellvue manor.

After cutting the cake, Zainab and Fahad celebrated their love by exchanging rings in front of their family and friends. Zainab’s round diamond engagement ring was designed by Vera Wang and purchased at mappins jewellers. The bride and groom’s wedding bands were also designed by Vera Wang.

A woodland-themed five-tier cake designed by fine cakes by zehra featured a tree trunk-inspired base with cascading sugar flowers and greenery to mimic the bride’s bouquet. Cinematography was provided by b2b production. Following their reception, Zainab and Fahad travelled to the lush Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, where they stayed in a suite overlooking the ocean at sandals grande st. lucian spa & beach resort. The happily married couple currently resides in Mississauga.

STAR GIRL The “Pink Star,” a 59.60-carat oval Fancy Vivid Pink diamond recently sold for a jaw-dropping US$71.2 million. On April 4, 2017, a new record was set at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, when The Pink Star sold for a jaw-dropping US$71.2 million, breaking the record for both the most valuable item ever sold in Asia, as well as the most valuable diamond ever sold at auction. The ultra-rare stone is the largest Internally Flawless Fancy Vivid Pink diamond the GIA has ever graded and is part of the rare subgroup Type IIa, comprising less than 2% of all diamonds, which classifies stones as the purest of all diamond gemstones. Purchased by renowned Hong Kong-based jewellery company Chow Tai Fook, the stone has since been renamed the CTF Pink Star.
