Think Pink It’s no secret that pink has always been the unquestionable runner-up to white when it comes to winning wedding popularity contests, but this year, nobody is putting baby (pink) in the corner! At the risk of stating the obvious, pink is having a MAJOR worldwide moment and we couldn’t be any happier to join the wave. Designers (and consumers) of all genres have embraced their inner femininity to the point that a whole generation has become ubiquitously linked with pink. Millennial Pink sound familiar? Or maybe you prefer Tumblr Pink, or Scandi Pink? Just a few weeks ago, the colour pink dominated at Milan Design Week 2017, a globally-recognized event where the latest and greatest in design collaborations between the worlds of art, furniture, and fashion converge. The standout star (and most instagrammed!) was a giant pink tropical bed installation by artist Marc Ange (I die!). There were so many other pink-hued notables presented by big name influencers that it’s safe to say pink is now the most sought-after colour in high-end furniture design.

But that’s not all. From the series of powder pink silk frocks Alessandro Michele showed at label-of-themoment Gucci, to the vibrant and sculptural magenta creations by boundary-pushing labels Delpozo and Vetements, rosy shades also continue to flood the international runways. So, yes, we’re seeing things through some very rose-coloured glasses right now and judging by the nine incredibly gorgeous Glitterati Style File photoshoots produced by our esteemed WedLuxe Glitterati members, they are too. From retro-inspired “Beverly Hills Hotel Style” on page 96, to the dusty pink tones of “Desert Rose” on page 106, we know you’ll find heaps of fresh wedding inspiration. I especially love how pink is showing up in beauty trends too. On page 84, my friend and makeup artist Victoria Radford (former personal makeup artist for Fergie, by the way) showcases her mad skills and shares the hottest pink-hued beauty trends in “Pink Kiss,” photographed by long-time WedLuxe contributor Mike Caringi from 5ive15ifteen Photo Company. Talk about a dream team! I know, I know, you’re probably attached at the hip to your rose gold iPhone, but I’m hoping you’ll enjoy a quiet moment to savour this issue. I suggest you pour yourself the “It” drink of the summer—a frosé (of course)—and start dreaming… the best is yet to come.

An Ethereal Wedding With A Movie-Worthy Moment

hile in university, Alexandra Neil worked part-time at a bar on weekends. It was here that she met her future husband, Colin Wall. One night, Colin and his friends sat in Alexandra’s section of the bar. Though their romantic relationship didn’t begin until later on, they had an instant connection. Colin continued to visit Alexandra during her shifts, and the two developed a close friendship, however, it was only a matter of time until they fell for each other. Alexandra even broke her strict rule against giving out her phone number to customers! “Colin became the exception,” shares the bride, “He was the most respectful, caring, and protective person I had ever met. After our first date, I fell completely and madly in love with him.” Two years later, Colin received a call from de beers about his 10-carat engagement ring that was ready for pick-up. After returning home from the jewellers, he immediately invited Alexandra on a spontaneous weekend trip to Whistler. Unable to keep a secret, Colin knew he had to propose soon. He managed not to pop the question on the entire drive from Vancouver to Whistler, and shortly after arriving, he persuaded Alexandra to join him on a sunset stroll. Once out of the hotel, Colin took Alexandra on a quick detour to a private forested area beside a stream. There, against the backdrop of the stunning British Columbia wilderness, Colin got down on one knee and asked Alexandra to marry him. She replied, “yes,” and it was the “happiest day of my life,” shares the groom. The wedding took place on August 20, 2016 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Geneve McNally of dreamgroup productions inc. provided full event planning services in the year leading up to the wedding. According to the bride, “Geneve was a lifesaver! She took all of our ideas and elevated them to new levels and beyond. We developed a great relationship over the course of the year leading up to the wedding and I would hire her again a hundred times over.”

Hair styling and makeup application services were provided by Andrea Salazar of mink makeup & hair.

Alexandra’s custom-made de beers engagement ring featured a 10-carat solitaire cushion cut diamond, while her wedding band, also from De Beers, was an eternity band of emerald cut diamonds.

Colin’s black titanium eternity band with black diamonds was designed by David Yurman.

The bridesmaids wore blush floor-length gowns designed by Jenny Yoo and purchased at frocks. Bouquets by granville island florist.

CEREMONY The couple were married in the Promenade of the rosewood hotel georgia in Vancouver. upright decor, who provided the day’s decor, and granville island florist, who provided all floral for the wedding, worked together to create an ethereal setting filled with flowy white draping and loose, romantic floral arrangements. Alexandra walked down the aisle, which was lined with customized white plexi boxes bursting with gorgeous arrangements, to a live performance of “Ave Maria” by Grammy-award winning opera singer Isabel Bayrakdarian. Guests sat on crystal Chiavari chairs from Upright Decor that were covered in a customized white gauzy overlay. Used to section off the space, tall white sheer curtains lined with fresh floral garlands stood at the back of the aisle. During their recessional, Alexandra and Colin were serenaded by a string quartet from the vancouver symphony orchestra.

Grammy award-winning opera singer Isabel Bayrakdarian gave a live performance of “Ave Maria” during the ceremony.

The English garden-inspired cocktail hour gave Alexandra and Colin’s guests the chance to enjoy cocktails and gourmet canapés prepared by the Rosewood Hotel Georgia.

Upright Decor created and installed a custom-made 8-ft tall x 6-ft wide arch covered in white florals and natural greenery from Granville Island Florist. In the windows behind the aisle hung an arrangement of garlands, suspended on invisible wire, giving the illusion that they were floating.

For the reception, upright decor and granville island florist created a beautiful setting with pale peach linens, gold and white Louis chairs from éclat decor inc., and tall, fresh floral arrangements of roses, lisianthus, and hydrangea.

“The reception had a similar feeling to the ceremony but was more refined. If the ceremony was an English garden, the reception was a French garden.” –alexandra

love by phoebe provided all stationery for the wedding, including the menus and the couple’s intricate seating chart.

Clear narrow vases with floral centrepieces stood on each round table. At the foot of these arrangements lay three antique mercury glass vases featuring smaller bouquets that used the same flowers as the main arrangement. Each female guest was invited to take home the mirrored vase and accompanying bouquet at the end of the evening as a wedding favor.

Colin’s love of Star Wars was incorporated into the reception. His friend Dayo, who works for a movie production company, along with his wife, dressed up as stormtroopers and escorted the wedding party to their seats at the reception. Every table also had a gold-lined card with a different Star Wars-themed name.

Blush uplighting used behind the ceremony arch, around the perimeter of the reception space, and behind the head table was provided by Upright Decor.

The head table was situated beneath an 18-ft tall white crushed velvet and sheer fabric backdrop with blush pink uplighting, the latter of which lined the perimeter of the ballroom, resulting in a romantic glow that washed over the entire space. Two oversized floral arrangements of hydrangea, roses, and lisianthus in plexiglass vases flanked the gallery table, in addition to the floral hedges that lined the front of the table and the abundant florals that sat atop it. All of these floral elements converged to create the illusion that “the table itself was growing flowers,” shares event planner Geneve McNally.

The couple’s seventier white and gold wedding cake was created by a. elizabeth cakes.

In the windows behind the candy table hung an arrangement of suspended garlands containing larkspur, delphinium, stocks, mini spray roses, Italian Ruscus, jasmine vine, and Queen Anne’s lace.

The Rosewood Hotel Georgia served a dessert trio that included a lemon tart, chocolate ganache mousse, and buttermilk panna cotta, as well as a nitrogen ice cream station that was rolled out as a late-night snack.

The rosewood hotel georgia provided a candy table with all sorts of pink, red, and gold sweets, including Ferrero Rocher chocolates, Twizzlers, striped peppermints, Dubble Bubble bubblegum, Fuzzy Peach gummies, heart-shaped lollipops, and Swedish Berries. The candy sat in vases of varying sizes provided by upright decor and take-away bags were available, which served as a second wedding favor. The shiny white vinyl dance floor was installed by Upright Decor. Here, the bride and groom, along with their guests, were able to get their groove on to a series of musical acts that performed at the reception. Canadian Idol alumni Greg Neufeld was contracted via musos entertainment to sing Jeff Buckley’s version of “Hallelujah” for the bride and groom’s first dance and Bruce Springsteen’s “When You Need Me” for the father-daughter dance. Neufeld then broke into a rendition of “Pretty Woman,” which transitioned into the recorded version played by DJ Michael Tedham of man about town entertainment. “It was a really awesome way to transition from live into recorded, and then into dancing,” shares Geneve McNally. Alexandra and Colin spent two and a half weeks travelling around northern Italy for their honeymoon. The pair began their trip with a romantic stay in the grand hotel tremezzo’s rooftop suite overlooking Lake Como. While in the region of Lombardy, the newlyweds travelled to the towns of Varenna, Bellagio, and Como, before visiting Milan for the last four days of their vacation. Milan provided the couple with delicious restaurants, historic architecture, and of course, lots of shopping! “Visiting Milan last was a great way to end our honeymoon and ease us from the lake town of Tremezzo into our busy lives in downtown Vancouver,” shares the bride. The couple currently resides in Vancouver where Alexandra is a property and investment manager and Colin is an investor.

A Classical Chinese Wedding Inspired By European Opulence

othing could keep Coco Pang and Willie Wei apart—not even an entire country. The two met in 2012 while studying abroad at the University of Southern California (USC). For Coco, “the connection was instant,” while Willie knew that from the moment he saw her, he “simply couldn’t live without her.” Their courtship featured all that Los Angeles had to offer, including dreamy sunsets and beach strolls. Unfortunately the time came for Willie to return to Vancouver, at which point the two continued dating long distance. Despite the 2,000 kilometers between them, Coco and Willie’s love only grew stronger. Roughly three and a half years later, Willie proposed to Coco on a quick getaway to Seattle just two days after Coco had graduated from USC. After strolling through the scenic Kerry Park, the two sat down on a bench surrounded by beautiful blooming spring flowers. Before she knew it, Willie was down on one knee asking her to marry him. Coco was overwhelmed and excitedly replied, “yes!” This intimate moment was shared by just the two of them, making it all the more special. Coco says the couple “will cherish that day for the rest of our lives.” The wedding took place on October 29, 2016 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Nargess Tabrizy of fleur de lis events was hired as the event planner, working with the bride and groom during the four months leading up to the October ceremony.

Coco’s custom-made Vera Wang wedding dress was purchased from blush bridal in Vancouver, and featured a removable soft lace bolero jacket. The gown featured a crystal bodice, which was adorned with Swarovski crystals and peony lace. This lace floral detail was also used in creating Coco’s Vera Wang cathedral length veil. Her sparkly headpiece was also purchased from Blush Bridal.

The wedding took place at the four seasons hotel vancouver. The couple exchanged vows at the end of a dramatic T-shaped stage inspired by a fashion runway, and said “I do” in front of an ornate silver gate provided by art of the party design inc., with floral design by sunflower florist. In addition to the main stage, the romantic, candlelit aisle was lined with 30 feet of baby’s breath and clear crystal vases containing white candles. Five showstopping crystal chandeliers provided by éclat decor inc. emanated a warm glow throughout the entire room. In an effort to incorporate the bride’s love of European decor, the chandeliers were inspired by the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles. éclat decor inc. worked tirelessly to transform the Park Ballroom into a modern yet classical setting with traditional Chinese details. Gold Louis chairs, dining tables, linens, candleholders, and gold charger plates were all from Éclat Decor Inc. The couple and their families were seated at special tables with dramatic baccarat-style candelabras and hanging orchids. Centrepiece arrangements were created by sunflower florist. The glass stemware was provided by the four seasons hotel vancouver. Guests were treated to a customized sevencourse Chinese meal. Created in collaboration with the head chef at the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver, the menu showcased some of Coco and Willie’s favourite dishes and was intended to please the multitude of guests who had flown to Canada from Asia for the wedding. Nearly every detail of the wedding held special significance for the bride and groom, including their five-tier wedding cake by ganache patisserie. Butterflies and pearls were created in sugar and incorporated as both hold special meaning for the couple. In addition, the same peony lace pattern found on the bride’s gown and veil were design elements of the cake, along with their monogram. Guests were gifted with a clear box containing one french vanilla and one rosewater macaron, prepared by soirette. Cinematography services were provided by premier love. Music was provided by girl on wax. Though Coco and Willie have not yet embarked on their honeymoon, they have plans to visit Europe in the near future. Specifically, the couple hopes to travel to Monaco as that is one of Coco’s favourite destinations. The two currently reside in Vancouver where Coco is a homemaker and Willie is an entrepreneur.

The dance floor, produced and installed by Éclat Decor Inc., showcased a design by zing paperie & design featuring the couple’s monogram in gold lettering. Coco’s favourite moment of the day was Willie’s speech. “His sweet words brought tears to everyone’s eyes,” she remarked. However, this intimate moment took a hysterical turn when the groom, along with his groomsmen, “performed a dance number that had everyone laughing and out of their seats.”

iloofar Teymour Zadeh and Babak Assadsangabi were first introduced at a mutual friend’s party. While the couple’s meet-cute may not have been out of the ordinary, Babak’s proposal was nothing short of spectacular. A few years later, Babak took Niloofar to the top of Vancouver’s Grouse Mountain. While dining at their mountaintop restaurant, the observatory, Babak got down on one knee and asked Niloofar to be his wife forever. She said “yes” against the stunning backdrop of downtown Vancouver. The wedding took place on August 12, 2016 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Jenny De Jong of countdown events planning & design provided full event planning services, and according to the bride, she went above and beyond, “CountDown Events made all of our dreams come true for the big day! The couple were married in the Waterfront Foyer at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in a special ceremony officiated by a close family friend of the bride. A soft canopy of white draping from Éclat Decor Inc., tied back with cascading greenery and white protea, hung above the altar, in addition to the two sculpted arrangements from Tala Florist that stood in classic white urns and flanked the sofreh. The aisle featured a white satin runner and floating candles and was surrounded by gold and white Louis chairs, all from Éclat Decor Inc. “The couple wanted loose, garden-like flowers so we used lots of neutral tones and cascading greenery,” shares event planner Jenny De Jong.

The wedding reception also took place at the fairmont waterfront hotel, in the Waterfront Ballroom which had been transformed into an ethereal garden by tala florist and Éclat Decor Inc.

The lavish sofreh, designed and arranged by details by haleh, was adorned with crystal candelabras from Éclat Decor Inc., gold vases and candleholders, a detailed silver mirror, and assorted nuts and fruit. Two elements of this traditional wedding spread stood out among the rest. The first was a piece of handmade fabric from Iran that was over forty years old and was gifted to the bride by her mother, and the second was a fuchsia lotus that was floating in a clear, round vase, alongside three lit tealights, in the centre of the sofreh. “The lotus flower arrangement stunned us,” recalls the bride, “My name means lotus in Persian so this was an incredible surprise!”

PERSIAN ELEGANCE MEETS FRENCH LUXURY

The couple enjoyed their reception from the comfort of a white loveseat provided by éclat decor inc. tala florist designed the focal point above, a ‘swing’ floral installation suspended from the ceiling. A customized white vinyl dance floor, designed by flourish by colleen winton and installed by Éclat Decor Inc., was situated directly between the head table and the sweetheart lounge, and featured gold stripes and the couple’s gold monogram. The finishing touches to the reception came in the form of romantic lighting from innovation lighting that emanated a soft, lilac tone throughout the entire room, and luxurious white draping from Éclat Decor Inc. that lined the wall behind the sweetheart lounge. DJ Ali Fard provided his DJ services throughout the reception. Cinematography was provided by brellow. Following their wedding, the newlyweds embarked on an unforgettable honeymoon to Venice. The happily married couple currently resides in Vancouver, where Niloofar is an interactive media designer and Babak is a consultant engineer. A white three-tier wedding cake featuring the couple’s gold monogram on the top tier, was designed by ganache patisserie.

A Modern, Graphic Wedding Designed By The Bride

Sahar wore a custom-made Hayley Paige ball gown purchased from blush bridal that combined the strapless beaded top and full tulle skirt of two different dresses. The bride accessorized her custom gown with a cathedral length veil, Swarovski bracelet, and stud earrings, all from Blush Bridal.

t all came down to a chance encounter for Sahar Sarband and Kiarash Kalhor. Despite having had mutual friends for years, they first met at a friend’s gathering in January 2008. After the two locked eyes from across the room, they immediately started asking around about the other, and by the end of the night, Kiarash asked for Sahar’s number. Before she had time to respond, Kiarash said he wouldn’t take no for an answer. He called her later that night, they talked for hours, and the rest is history. Nearly seven years later, Sahar was on her way to spend Christmas Eve with Kiarash. She arrived early and let herself in while Kiarash was in the other room. As she entered the house, she instantly spotted several presents under the tree with her name on them. “Having no idea what was coming, I ran to the tree and yelled to him that I was opening presents,” remembers Sahar. “He yelled at me to wait, and then he ran in and tried to get me to stop.” Insistent on ripping into her gifts, Sahar opened a gorgeous pair of boots, and as she went to try them on she found a small box with a stunning oval ring inside. At that moment, everything clicked. When she looked up, she found Kiarash down on one knee in front of her. He then asked if she would be his valentine forever. Once the shock and awe wore off, Sahar joyfully replied, “yes!” “It turned out that Kiarash was in the process of setting up a camera and had a speech ready that I completely ruined,” she says. “But it was so imperfectly perfect, I wouldn’t have it any other way.” The wedding day took place on August 20, 2016 in Vancouver, British Columbia. The bride’s profession as a wedding planner at modern mint events inc. lent itself naturally to the occasion, and she planned the entire day herself. In fact, the bride admitted that she loved being on the other side of the planning process for once, sharing, “I spend so much time on a daily basis trying to put myself in my bride’s shoes, and I was finally able to see it all from their perspective.”

CEREMONY NOTES The couple were wed in the Vancouver Island Room at the fairmont hotel vancouver where they exchanged personalized vows in a ceremony that perfectly combined their Western and Persian backgrounds. Sahar’s dream of getting married in front of a sofreh aghd came true. However, she worked closely with the officiant, Shawn Miller of young hip & married, to forgo the traditional Farsi reading in exchange for an English one. “To create the perfect ceremony, I worked closely with Shawn who was kind enough to customize everything and perform a traditional Persian aghd in English along with beautiful readings that truly represented us. He even learned and included some Farsi phrases that made for a special, one-of-a-kind day,” recalls the bride. koncept event

design brought Sahar’s ceremony to life, lining the altar with Louis candlesticks, gold votive holders, and two customized black mirrors. paisley events inc. helped to create the sofreh aghd, filling lavish gold vessels with apples, nuts, eggs, flatbread, and coins, all of which are traditional symbols of wealth, prosperity, happiness, and health. Modern white floral arrangements of hydrangea and roses sat atop tall black pillars that framed the altar, while two black runners topped with more white hydrangea draped onto the floor. Black panels were installed on the wall behind the sofreh aghd for added drama, while the bride walked down a custom-made black aisle runner from Koncept Event Design. Meanwhile, gold Grace chairs with black cushions lined the aisle, providing a touch of glamour.

Sahar worked alongside dushan flowers and koncept event design to create a modern-meets-traditional setting featuring graphic pops of black. Using her event expertise, the bride developed a grand and completely unexpected floor plan for the Pacific Ballroom that consisted of long king tables from Koncept Event Design positioned in the shape of two Xs. In an effort to exude luxury and drama, the tables were covered in heavy black velvet linens and surrounded by gold Louis chairs with black cushions from Koncept Event Design.

The gold moulding, high ceilings, and grand chandeliers are truly magical on their own but I also love modern and contemporary design. My mission was to bring this storybook venue into the 21st century and pair the design elements with modern clean lines, black accents, and sharp, bold details that have never been done in this setting.â&#x20AC;? â&#x20AC;&#x201C;sahar

The graphic peony print seen on the dance floor and wall mural were based on a Flickr photograph Sahar sourced online. The photograph was then edited by Koncept Event Design to create a customized dance floor and wall mural, which they then produced and installed. Koncept Event Design also provided the black panelling for the walls, as well as the black stands and runners that the floral arrangements sat atop.

AVANT GARDE CAKE

The couple’s avant-garde 6-ft tall wedding cake was designed by cake by nicole and featured six asymmetrically placed squareshaped tiers with cascading white sugar flowers. The statement cake was positioned on a black-rimmed white cake stand which sat atop a rectangular black stand from koncept event design. On either side of the modern cake were two black mini cakes, also by Cake by Nicole, that featured handpainted peonies in the same floral motif as the dance floor and mural. Despite the grandeur of the three cakes, Sahar and Kiarash’s luxe affair had a variety of other desserts. These included a black and white macaron tower with gold accents from Cake by Nicole, as well as two dessert buffets prepared by the fairmont hotel vancouver that included creme brûlée, assorted gourmet chocolates, and other confections. PORTRAIT SESSION For the coupleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s portrait session, which took place on a different day, Sahar wore a modern, fit and flare gown with a tulle train designed by Vera Wang and purchased at blush bridal. In addition to her gown, Sahar wore black and gold Christian Louboutin heels, a Swarovski bracelet from Blush Bridal, and crystal earrings given to her by her sister, who purchased them from a local designer in Chicago. or Sanam Sanii and Soroush Karimzadeh, it was love at first sight. The two first met on a group trip to Osoyoos, British Columbia in 2013, while seated across from one another at dinner. However, it wasn’t until one year later when they connected at a mutual friend’s birthday party that their romance began. The moment they locked eyes at the party, both Sanam and Soroush knew “it was meant to be.” After one year of dating, the two decided to embark on a luxurious getaway to Spain and Portugal. It was here on the Iberian Peninsula that Soroush asked Sanam to marry him. Though their trip began in Spain, it wasn’t until they reached Porto, Portugal, the couple’s final stop and one of their favourite cities, that Soroush proposed. One night after dinner, Soroush asked Sanam to go for a walk on the beach. The two took a romantic moonlit stroll, and once they reached a secluded spot, Soroush got down on one knee and popped the question. With the infinite ocean in front of them and the sound of the waves surrounding them, “it could not have been a better moment or place,” recalls Sanam. The New Year’s Eve wedding took place on December 31, 2016 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Sahar Sarband of modern mint events inc. provided full-service planning and design assistance for one year prior. “Sahar worked closely with us from day one. We immediately connected with her and began our year-long planning journey. She was able to bring our vision to life and make the process easy for us,” shares the bride. Sanam and Soroush welcomed the help of experienced professionals, saying “We got to be involved with the fun parts like the design and floral, while Sahar took care of the logistics. The best part of planning was not stressing.”

In addition to greenery draped on all seven chandeliers, flowerz accented each table with alternating floral arrangements of three distinct styles. The first were tall and lush, consisting of greenery and blush and white roses in gold candelabras. The second were short, full-bodied arrangements. In addition to the enchanted fairytale setting and traditional Persian elements, there was one other important theme of the day: New Year’s Eve. The December 31st date was reflected with a clock motif in a few fun spots, including the custom dance floor and the cake. The six-tier ivory cake (with an edible clock) was prepared by the trump international hotel & tower vancouver. The elegant gold and black dance floor further echoed this New Year’s Eve theme with a customized clock design created by sidebuy solutions inc. and executed by koncept event design. After a buffet-style dinner, guests helped themselves to a decadent dessert table with famous treats from all over the world, including Austrian Sachertorte, New York cheesecake, Japanese-style shortcake, and a French macaron tower and Mille crêpe cake, all of which was prepared by the Trump International Hotel & Tower Vancouver. DJ Ali Fard, accompanied by an electronic percussionist and violinist, kept everyone on their feet until the wee hours of the morning. Dancing the night away and celebrating New Year’s Eve with their closest friends and family was a major highlight for Sanam and Soroush, but the bride’s very favourite moment of the day was the countdown. “We had Sahar arrange for a grand confetti cannon to go off at midnight which thrilled our guests. It was a moment everyone still talks about,” shares Sanam. For their honeymoon, Sanam and Soroush embarked on a romantic trip to southern Italy and Greece. The couple resides in Vancouver where Sanam is a project engineer and Soroush is the CEO of Novarc Technologies.

omo Chen and Ray Xu were introduced to one another by a mutual friend in 2008. The two quickly realized it was meant to be after learning that they were both huge fans of NBA star Kevin Garnett. After talking day and night (mostly about basketball), Momo and Ray made their relationship official in December of that year. Nearly seven years later, on Momo’s birthday, Ray surprised her with a trip to Joffre Lakes Provincial Park, a stunning site roughly two and a half hours from Vancouver. Upon arriving at the park, the two embarked on a birthday hike that took them to a scenic lake. With the emerald blue waters beside them, Ray got down on one knee and asked Momo to be his wife. After accepting, she learned that Ray had been holding a GoPro in an effort to record the proposal. Unfortunately, they found out afterward that the camera only filmed half of their bodies! The wedding took place on September 16, 2016 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Jessie Lo of wedo weddings etc. provided full event planning services.

balconi floral design studio inc. provided all of the floral for the wedding. Momo’s bouquet was filled with cream garden roses and dusty pink and greyish purple roses, the latter of which was a nod to the Earl Grey flavour of the couple’s wedding cake, created by Momo.

The bridesmaids wore blush pink floor-length gowns from david’s bridal and accessories of their own choosing. Hair styling and makeup application services were provided by anita lee beauty and style.

An Elegant Wedding With A Hint of Glamour

Ray wore an Armani tuxedo, Salvatore Ferragamo shoes, a Girard-Perregaux watch, and a bow tie gifted to him by his mother.

Momo’s ines di santo embroidered mermaid gown was purchased at bisou bridal in Vancouver. She paired the gown with a matching veil from Bisou Bridal, Rene Caovilla crystal-embellished heels, a de beers diamond necklace, and a bracelet and tiara from chaumet.

For the tea ceremony, Momo donned a traditional Chinese Gua dress. The ensemble featured 24-karat gold thread throughout and was accessorized with red Manolo Blahnik heels, gold earrings, and an ornate headpiece.

Handpainted cookies were created by Momo and served as desserts during the Chinese tea ceremony. 75

flourish by colleen winton designed the couple’s wedding invitations, inspired by the delicate embroidery of the bride’s ines di santo gown. Each invite featured gold foil stamping, a customized monogram, and a wax seal.

The couple were married in the Island Ballroom of the fairmont hotel vancouver. balconi floral design studio inc. lined the aisle with floral arrangements in crystal fluted pillars. The customized white aisle runner from wedo weddings etc. was printed by instyle floor wraps and was adorned with the couple’s gold monogram. The gold Chiavari chairs were from reel silks. Momo’s favourite moment of the day came when Ray said his personal vows. “He began to tear up right after he said the first word of his vows which made everybody at the ceremony tear up as well, including me and the officiant!”

The reception took place in the Pacific Ballroom of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Each round table was surrounded by gold and white Louis chairs from éclat decor inc. and covered in customized nude satin linens with a gold damask lace overlay from WeDo Weddings Etc. Atop each table were crystal vases filled with flowers, as well as floating candleholders of varying heights.

Guests were greeted by a stunning silverframed mirror from WeDo Weddings Etc. featuring a hand-written seating chart designed by maurelle calligraphy.

psav provided all audio-visual support and lighting, including the uplights that lined the perimeter of the Pacific Ballroom, emanating a candlelit-esque glow throughout the room.

Given that the bride is a professional wedding cake designer and founder of momo chen cakes, it was no surprise that the reception revolved around the stunning 6-ft tall cake created by Momo herself. This one-of-a-kind cake was inspired by her embroidered ines di santo gown. “I wanted my wedding cake to reflect my gorgeous gown, and so I created a lace pattern out of fondant that mimicked the lace on my dress. I also arranged sugar flowers at the bottom of the cake to mirror my gown’s mermaid train,” recalls Momo. Sugar flowers in the form of orchids, roses, and hydrangea were all handmade by the bride and were complemented by a floral arrangement by balconi floral design studio inc. that flowed downwards from the base of the cake. The sixth tier of the cake was adorned with the couple’s gold monogram. It took Momo three months to complete the 1,500 sugar flowers found on the cake, not to mention that the eleven-tier cake was so tall it had to be assembled inside the reception venue.

Two gold vessels overflowing with hydrangea and Phalaenopsis orchids graced the head table. Low arrangements of roses, hydrangea, and orchids cascaded down the front. Guests were presented with a gold box of Godiva chocolates. This wedding favor not only complemented the reception’s colour scheme but fulfilled the bride and groom’s wish to abide by the “cultural custom of giving sweets to wedding guests as this represents sharing our happiness and love with our family and friends,” shares Momo.

To complement her towering wedding cake, Momo designed a regal desserts table which included buttercream cupcakes, candy, a pink and white macaron tower, and cakes of all sizes. The wedding’s blush, white, and gold colour scheme was again utilized, with a mixture of white and pink cakes covered in everything from sugar flowers and gilding to the couple’s gold monogram. One treat that stood out were the sugar cookies. “I created small wedding dress cookies which, like my main cake, were inspired by my ines di santo gown and featured a miniature version of the lace pattern found on it,” shares the bride. Following their wedding, Momo and Ray travelled to Thailand for their honeymoon. They spent most of their time in a private villa at the pavilions phuket, however, the couple also visited Bangkok and Chiangmai before returning home. The couple resides in Richmond, British Columbia where Momo is the wedding cake designer at the helm of momo chen cakes and Ray is an IT specialist.

A Sparkling Fall Wedding

Rahmtin wore Hugo Boss formalwear purchased in Las Vegas, along with Salvatore Ferragamo shoes, a Simons bow tie purchased in Vancouver, and a Bulova watch gifted to him by his father-in-law on their wedding day.

amira Dargahi and Rahmtin Faridian met in 2015 through the business social networking site, LinkedIn. Samira appeared in Rahmtin’s “People You May Know” section, which prompted him to connect with her and send her a private message. The two instantly hit it off, with their online messages quickly leading to phone calls. “All I could think about day in and day out was the opportunity to call her again and talk to her for hours on end,” recalls Rahmtin. Three weeks in, Samira and Rahmtin decided to meet each other in person. Unfortunately, this wasn’t so easy as Samira lived in Las Vegas and Rahmtin in Vancouver, however, they made it work and their first meeting was nothing short of magical. After that, the two continued dating long distance, but not before Samira made Rahmtin promise that they would see each other a minimum of once per month. He agreed, and the two spent a year and a half flying back and forth between Vegas and Vancouver before Rahmtin proposed. With the consent of Samira’s mother and father as per the Bahá’í Faith, Rahmtin invited Samira on a romantic hike through Whytecliffe Park in Vancouver. Rahmtin’s sister tagged along, which was nothing out of the ordinary considering her and Samira had grown to be close friends, however, unbeknownst to Samira, his sister was really there to capture Rahmtin’s proposal on camera. Upon reaching the cliffs, Rahmtin pointed out a spot in the distance. As Samira turned her head to look, Rahmtin got down on one knee. Samira couldn’t hide her excitement, and of course, accepted Rahmtin’s marriage proposal. The wedding took place on September 30, 2016 in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia. Hasti Maloufi of la vista events provided full event planning services in the three and a half months leading up to Samira and Rahmtin’s nuptials. As per the Bahá’í Faith, the couple only had 95 days in which to get married after becoming engaged. Despite the time crunch, the couple, along with their planner, were able to pull off a spectacular, elegant wedding rife with blush and crystal accents.

Samira travelled to southern California in the hopes of finding her dream wedding gown, which she considered to be the most important part of planning her wedding. “My friends are always looking to me for fashion advice, so I knew when planning my wedding that I had to find the perfect dress. I wanted my dress to be the talk of the year, and I created my whole wedding theme and vision around my gown,” she shares. In the end, Samira chose a custom-made wedding dress designed by Demetrios in Los Angeles, handmade in Europe. Samira accessorized with a sparkly headpiece from nordstrom, custom-designed earrings from a boutique jeweller in Los Angeles, and a simple veil that had been passed down to her from her aunt.

SUN-KISSED CEREMONY The couple were married in the Grand Ballroom at the swaneset bay resort & country club in a short and sweet Bahá’í ceremony that consisted of three prayers, a short speech by a close family friend, and the couple’s traditional wedding vows. Samira and Rahmtin declared their love for one another in front of grand, draped windows overlooking the golf course. Two white carved Louis chairs from éclat decor inc. sat beneath the sheer, white draping from paradise events which, along with the white vinylwrapped floor, floating candleholders, two extra large white floral

Floral arrangements with spray-painted gold leaves stood in tall crystal candelabras and lined the aisle while flickering candles provided additional ambience. A white aisle runner from the Swaneset Bay Resort & Country Club finished off the room’s decor. A classical trio from musical occasions performed live as guests entered the venue and accompanied Samira as she walked down the aisle.

Each place setting was embellished with a unique element: a small pumpkin that had been painted gold. As they also served as wedding favors, a tag from Minted was printed in gold cursive and affixed to the pumpkin with gold and white ribbon.

tala florist and paradise events worked tirelessly to create an enchanted setting at the swaneset bay resort & country club, where both the cocktail hour and reception took place. Round guest tables were adorned with linens, napkins, and charger plates from paradise events, gold Chiavari chairs from vancouver chiavari chairs, and gold table numbers and white and gold menus designed by minted. A mixture of luxe white and gold floral arrangements and crystal candelabras graced each table. The Swaneset Bay Resort & Country Club provided all catering for the reception. The focal point of the reception was undeniably the white and gold, four-tier round cake from golestan bakery. This simple yet stunning cake was embellished with gold glitter at the bottom of each tier and was made of two different flavours: tiramisu and vanilla. Finally, white orchids that perfectly matched the brideâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s bouquet trailed downwards from the bottom of the cake. In addition to cake, wedding guests were treated to Persian pastries from minoo bakery as per tradition. Guests, along with the happy couple, danced the night away to the sounds of DJ Sana Goldan and his bilingual playlist of English and Persian tunes. Cinematography was provided by capture productions. Following their nuptials, Samira and Rahmtin set off for a romantic honeymoon in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The newlyweds stayed at the royal playa del carmen, in a luxury suite complete with ocean view, private swim-up pool, and balcony. The couple spent their time ziplining, ATVing, swimming in caves, and relaxing on the beach, before returning to Vancouver where Samira is a nurse and Rahmtin is a financial advisor and strategic partner.

STAR GIRL The “Pink Star,” a 59.60-carat oval Fancy Vivid Pink diamond recently sold for a jaw-dropping US$71.2 million. On April 4, 2017, a new record was set at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, when The Pink Star sold for a jaw-dropping US$71.2 million, breaking the record for both the most valuable item ever sold in Asia, as well as the most valuable diamond ever sold at auction. The ultra-rare stone is the largest Internally Flawless Fancy Vivid Pink diamond the GIA has ever graded and is part of the rare subgroup Type IIa, comprising less than 2% of all diamonds, which classifies stones as the purest of all diamond gemstones. Purchased by renowned Hong Kong-based jewellery company Chow Tai Fook, the stone has since been renamed the CTF Pink Star.
