Between shooting editorials for our upcoming issues, press trips to New York and Bermuda, preparing for the 2016 WedLuxe Show (mark your calendars for Sunday, January 10th!) and designing over four hundred pages of prettiness for our upcoming print editions, our staff certainly has their hands full! DANA & CHRIS Couture-meets-bohemian was the vibe of Canadian-born Dana Dallal and Englishman Chris Pettengell’s wedding. The pair were married last summer in a century-old barn in Caledon, Ontario.

The bride wore a sky blue Vivienne Westwood gown that she paired with gold pumps by the British designer, while the groom wore a modern Givenchy suit and studded Saint Laurent loafers. Flower girls adorned with fresh floral crowns and the bride’s glorious loose bouquet amped up our love affair with this gloriously luxe countryside wedding!

Tell us a little bit about yourself — Where do you live? What do you do for a living? What are some of your hobbies and interests?

I am a city girl through and through.

Living in North Toronto, I am surrounded by the best clothing shops, restaurants and independent boutiques that any girl could ask for. Ten years ago at the age of 19, I launched Fancy Face Inc. — a luxury on-site hair and makeup coterie after being a ‘triple threat’ professional performer since I was a young teen. Having acted, sang and danced in some of Hollywood’s biggest films like the Oscar award-winning movie Chicago with the likes of Catherine Zeta Jones and Richard Gere, I truly had a chance to see how movie stars became red-carpet ready with the help of their makeup and hair team. From being in show business to having a passion for the cosmetics world and makeup artistry since a young age, it felt like a natural fit to open a company that helped women look and feel their best on one of the most important days of their life — their wedding day and any other special milestone event. Two years ago, we branched out in Vancouver as well! My hobbies and

interests include travelling to new places, trying out new restaurants with friends, and spending time with my fiancé and my pet Shih Tzu, Hugo Boss. I am also a member at the Soho House Toronto, where I enjoy hanging out with friends or curling up during the day with a good book in their 20’s inspired lounge.

How did you meet your fiancé?

Strangely enough, my fiancé and I both grew up five minutes apart in Pickering, Ontario, however our paths never crossed until the timing was right. Seeing Mark for the first time really did feel like the closest thing I can imagine to love at first sight. At the time, Mark was a personal trainer at my gym and I saw him there regularly. After two or three months of my ignoring him, he finally mustered up the courage to come talk to me. The rest was history. We became fast friends and have been pretty much inseparable since day one. I could never imagine life without him by my side.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style really changes from day to day. Depending on what the day entails, I flip flop between a very feminine New York chic look to a relaxed LA-inspired boho vibe. If I’m in meetings or doing a beauty segment on a TV show, I typically go for a more dressed up look, but if I’m doing makeup trials or working at my home office, you’ll find me more relaxed in jeans, a casual white tee, a hat and some gold jewels. I love to combine high-end staples with more stylish and trendy pieces.

In terms of deciding what to wear for your wedding, where did you find your style inspiration?

Trying on wedding dresses for me was TOUGH. I am pretty sure I went to every store in Toronto and probably tried on about 50 to 60 dresses. Growing up as an actor, singer, and dancer in the film and television world, I have worn SO many gowns and costumes, so that no dress made me feel like a bride. Towards the end of my search, I realized that it wasn’t the

glitz and glam that made me feel like a bride, it was actually the simplicity that made me feel most elegant. I am IN LOVE with my dress. Every fitting I have, I fall more and more in love with it. It is timeless, classic, elegant and most importantly, it feels authentically like me.

Where did you shop for the pieces you will wear for your wedding and the events leading up to it?

Shopping for my attire for the events leading up to my wedding day was a blast. Some of the places I enlisted in were Holt Renfrew, Nordstrom, Honey at Bayview Village, Little Pink Dress Design in Vancouver and BCBG. When shopping for my wedding day pieces, I explored Kleinfeld Canada, White Toronto, Holt Renfrew for the shoes, Tara Fava for the key jewellery pieces, Blair Nadeau Millinery, Mrs. Bridal Boutique, Ines Di Santo, Pearl Bridal House, Valencienne and so many more! I was sure to explore the best of the best so that once I made a decision; I knew it was the perfect piece to add to my wedding day wardrobe.

Tell us about your hair and makeup for your wedding — who will provide hair and makeup?

Because you are a well-known makeup artist and having done makeup for brides for years, what do you plan to do the same and what do you plan to do differently for yourself?

Everyone has been asking me who will be doing my hair and makeup on my wedding day. People are usually not surprised to find out that I will be leaving the makeup portion of my wedding day look in my own hands on the day of. I have just been doing this for SO many years and on SO many brides that I don’t think I can hand off that task to anyone else. I am very particular about what products are used on my skin and in which order to apply them for 76

My wedding will mark the 10 year anniversary for Fancy Face, and doing my own wedding day makeup will be a nice homage to that. As for my hair and my bridal party’s hair and makeup, I have the best team in the bridal business by my side so I will certainly be bringing along the Fancy Face artists to make everyone look like knock-outs. Having my family, friends and my team all in one room toasting each other with champagne mimosas will make me the happiest girl in the world.

After seeing what feels like a million ways of styling a bride, I want to look effortlessly glamorous (if that’s even a thing). What I mean by this is that with the wedding

dress, shoes, bouquet and jewellery, you are going to look fancy. I don’t want to try SO hard on the hair and makeup that it tips the scales to looking over the top. I plan on wearing my hair down and going for a makeup look that will be timeless and relevant even 50 years down the line. I look to people like Brigitte Bardot for inspiration. I find her sexy yet timeless and that to me, as another fellow blonde, is exactly the look I would like to achieve.

Will you wear a specific fragrance on your wedding day?

I have been searching for the perfect fragrance for a while now. Having my wedding in late October, I can stick with the notes I usually love which are sandalwood, amber, bergamot, white patchouli and violet. A more sultry scent, so to speak. However, finding the perfect combination of those blended together effortlessly is a challenge so I am still on the lookout. I also want it to be packaged up in a charming little bottle so my work is definitely cut out for me. The top runner at the moment is Tom Ford’s White Patchouli.

What beauty staples will be in your wedding day makeup bag? We would love to know the specific products you plan to use and any tricks from your wedding day makeup that you think our readers would love to hear!

Being the makeup artist that I am, I will likely have a more in-depth makeup bag than the average bride on my wedding day.

Since I will likely be changing my look in the evening to something more dramatic, I will require my entire kit to be on-site in the bridal suite. I love to have everything I could ever need at my disposal, because it’s one of those times when you just bring a few items and end up needing everything.

If I had to narrow down my must-have wedding day makeup products to place in my clutch, it would be my lip liner, my lipstick, my blush and translucent setting powder to nix shine. My favourite brand at the moment is everything Charlotte Tilbury. She is a total makeup goddess, so anything you buy from her line is something that will become a makeup bag staple. My favourites are Film Star Bronzer & Highlighter, Penelope Pink Lipstick, Nude Kate Lipstick, Sex On Fire Blush and her Full Fat mascara.

In terms of designing the look and feel of your wedding, where did you find your style inspiration?

Regarding my wedding event style inspiration, I have pulled ideas from travel books. As much as I love drawing inspiration from style shoots and other weddings, I really felt the need to step outside of my comfort zone and explore.

Truth be told, I found a quote by French author and poet Voltaire in a European travel book and that really ignited everything. This quote is what we have based the entire wedding off of and has been a solid foundation for us throughout the planning process. I have an affinity for French culture so you can expect to see elements that have a bit of a Provenceinspired, whimsical and wild feel.

Where do you plan to honeymoon and why?

We are planning our honeymoon for May 2016, and we’ll be going to Paris and the south of France. My fiancé really wants to go to Monaco for the F1 Grand Prix so we will make sure to stop there during that time. Right after the wedding, we are

going to go on a “mini-moon” to our condo in Anna Maria Island which sits right on the Gulf of Mexico in Florida.

What is your favourite design element of the wedding that you have planned?

My favourite design element of the wedding is the head table. I cannot reveal what we will be doing yet (as my wedding isn’t until October 23rd!) however I have the magic of Rachel Clingen by my side and let me assure you, it’s bound to be epic.

Amsis Photography will be capturing the moments of the day, Rachel Clingen is doing the florals and decor, Event Graffiti is creating the dance floor, So Pretty In Print has created custom-made stationery, Fine Cakes by Zehra is creating a masterpiece of a cake, Tara Fava will be designing my jewels and of course, Fancy Face Inc. will be doing all the hair and makeup! I am SO lucky to have such amazing talents with me for my big day. I haven’t felt an ounce of stress because I know I have the best of the best by my side!

We’d love to know about all the outfits and accessories you wore for the day of, and other wedding-related events leading up to and following your wedding.

Are there any special stories about any of the items?

For a celebratory dinner following Mark’s surprise proposal (for which I was wearing sweatpants and no makeup!), I put on a navy blue structured Rachel Zoe jumpsuit and nude Vince Camuto shoes, as well as a statement necklace from BCBG and my Louis Vuitton clutch that Mark got for me on my birthday the year prior.

For my bridal shower, my mom and aunt planned me a ‘brunch and bubbly en blanc’ garden party. Everyone was asked to wear all white and the party was dressed with white and gold decor. I wore a two piece skirt and crop top outfit from BCBG at The Bay. The outfit had a nude underlay topped off with ivory lace. I loved everything about the design of the skirt, and it also had pockets! Any skirt with pockets is a friend of mine. I paired the outfit with pearls, a Kate Spade nude purse and nude heels. I also enlisted Botany Studios for a wild floral crown as well. It just felt fitting for the style of the party!

Even though I had an engagement session planned in Toronto with Amsis Photography, I decided to enlist a local Floridian photographer to get some beach shots of us celebrating our engagement. You can’t top sunset beach engagement photos with the Gulf of Mexico as your backdrop!

In the photos, I wore a floral kimono from Nordstrom and a black slinky dress from Honey, which I paired with with a Janessa Leone hat, my favourite Burberry purse, vintage rings and my Tissot watch.

For my upcoming rehearsal dinner on Oct. 22nd, I feel the need to play opposites and wear black.

I enlisted in a fabulous designer, Little Pink Dress Design in Vancouver, to make me a custom black tutu. I asked for many layers of tulle with a high waist so I can pair it with my favourite crop top — a gorgeous high neck lace piece from Honey. I feel so polished when I wear this top: #instafancy!

For jewellery, I’ll keep it simple with a pair of vintage inspired earrings by J.Crew, a Kate Spade striped bangle and of course, my engagement ring!

What are your favourite magazines?

My favorite magazines are Harper’s Bazaar, WedLuxe (of course), Vogue, Glamour, Allure and InStyle. I’m a total magazine junkie!

What is the best gift you’ve given recently? What is the best gift you’ve received recently?

The best gift I have been given recently is definitely from my Grandmother. At my bridal shower, she gave me a fancy cake plate of hers that was handed down from royalty in England. Having a fancy cake plate back in my grandmother’s day was a very big deal and her passing it down to me meant the world. I will hold onto it and cherish it forever. It is SO beautifully intricate!

The best gift I have given is probably taking my fiancé to New York for his 30th birthday. We stayed at the Dream Downtown in the meatpacking district of Chelsea. We shopped, dined, danced, went to the theatre, explored the big apple’s tourist attractions but we mostly did what the locals do. I always like to experience cities authentically so I take a lot of time to research the best places that the locals thoroughly enjoy. It was Mark’s first time so it was a joy to show him around and it was amazing to make such great memories together. I’m itching to go back!

Who are your beauty icons?

My beauty icon is definitely Brigitte Bardot.
