California-based YourBASH! is a full service event production company known for producing mega-watt large-scale events, from blockbuster movie premieres to award show after parties. Co-owner Brian Worley spoke exclusively with WedLuxe about how he got his start in the industry, what inspires him on a daily basis, and reveals the strangest request they have ever received!

BRIAN WORLEY How did you get started in the event design industry?

It was a total fluke actually. I had no idea that this career even existed. I moved to LA from Texas and was working all sorts of PA jobs and thought I may want to be an actor, before finally deciding that I needed to get a steadier job. I got a job at Banana Republic where I met a guy that did events, I started working with him and learned about the industry. We started a company together and the rest is history.

YourBash! is known for creating some of the most extraordinary large scale events in the USA, from award shows and tv finale bashes to parties and galas for some of the most recognizable brand names in Hollywood. Can you tell us about one or two of the big projects you worked on in 2015?

2015 was a big year for YourBASH!, as we had the opportunity to help FOX design the red carpet and the media tent for the Emmys.

For the seventh year we helped produce the American Idol finalist party and the finale party, as well as the VIP tent and red carpet for the Teen Choice Awards, and helped Days of Our Lives celebrate their 50th Anniversary.

You’ve developed a reputation for working with the best — what is your secret to success?

Honestly, we are only as good as the team we have assembled to help us be great. All of the companies that we work with are incredible and if we were not working with the best, we could not be the best!

We rely on the rental company, the light team, the florist, etc. to help us make magic. Also, I never expect anyone that works for me to do anything that I would not do. I think that is important.

BRIAN WORLEY What has been the biggest request your company has ever received?

This may not be the biggest, but definitely the strangest was when we had to secure an ostrich to be on the red carpet for the premiere of Arrested Development. It is not every day that you have to locate an ostrich for a press event.

If you were a colour palette made up of at least two colours, what would they be?

My two favorite colours are blue and green, which is very evident if you were to look in my closet. I don’t know what that says about my personality or if green means I am a jealous person and blue means I am tranquil, but I do love both. If I had to choose a third, it would be yellow because it is bright and makes me happy!

What is inspiring you this month?

I get inspired by things that I see all around me when I am driving, from billboards, to things people wear, and store display windows, so at this time of year as everything is still decorated for the holidays, I am constantly taking mental pictures. I still love gold/ brass as an accent color for events. I used to avoid gold, but this year I have really been inspired by gold, especially antique gold.

Who is your hero?

I have many heroes, all representing different facets of my life. I would say that my 96-year-old grandmother is by far one of my greatest heroes. She is the matriarch of our family and is still a vivacious and energetic woman. As far as heroes for style and design, I would say anything Ralph Lauren, because their design covers everything from safari to a night on the town and it is all precise, tailored and classic. In business, I admire all my friends who work so hard at their jobs and often times are not rewarded for how hard they work. w w w.we d l u xe .co m

BRIAN WORLEY What is coming next in the world of YourBASH!?

We recently launched YourWeddings as a sister company under the YourBASH! umbrella. We have found that YB is a solid company with a reputation for creating extraordinary experiences, but we needed to branch out and show our softer side in the wedding realm. We are excited to have someone working to make this division just as exceptional as YB. What object could you never part with?

Sadly, these days I would have to say my cell phone. I remember the days when we had to have rolls of quarters on an event site so that anytime a call from a payphone had to be made, we could make that happen quickly. I rely on my cell phone for emails and texting mostly, and weirdly these days, very few actual calls.

Tell us about trends in your line of work. What trends have been big this year? What do you see coming in the future?

Trends are such a hard thing to predict because we try so hard as designers to sway from trends and do our own thing, but we are also confined to designing an event or wedding using the things that are available to us. As I mentioned, I used gold for a lot of events last year. I also enjoy using interesting stones and earthly objects as the foundation for parties that I design. I think that everything is going to become much more of an interactive experience for the guests. That includes the menu, the bar, the activities and even the dĂŠcor. Guests constantly want to be entertained and their attention spans are shortening, so we are creating environments for all events (including weddings), where once you walk in, you are immersed into the party.

WINNET Meet Alicia Winnet, better known to some as Alicia Fashionista. The Vancouver-based blogger was married on August 15th, 2015 in a mountaintop ceremony surrounded by British Columbia’s most beautiful views.

WedLuxe spoke exclusively with Alicia about her bridal-style inspiration, her favourite Vancouver hotspots, and everything she wore for her wedding festivities.

Tell us a little bit about yourself — where do you live? What do you do for a living? What are some of your hobbies and interests?

I live in beautiful Vancouver, BC. I have a lifestyle blog Alicia Fashionista and run a digital media company. If I’m not working away on the computer, you can usually find me out for dinner with friends, rocking out at a concert, or walking around taking photos of the city.

How did you meet your fiancé?

We actually met in a club! He approached me on the dance floor and I turned him down. A while later, he spotted me again and gave it a second try. We had a great conversation the rest of the evening and he called me the next day to properly ask me out on a date.

When did you start your blog? What is your favourite part about blogging?

I started blogging back in 2008 as a hobby that has somehow blossomed into a fulltime gig. There’s so much I love about this strange career, including the fact that I get to exercise creativity every day. I’m so grateful for the wonderful people I’ve met and worked with, as well the limitless opportunity within the industry.

In terms of deciding what to wear for your wedding, where did you find your style inspiration?

Pinterest. Always Pinterest.

Where did you shop for the pieces you wore to your wedding and the events leading up to it?

I did a ton of online shopping. ASOS was a go-to. I also supported local businesses when I could and got my bridal footwear from Lord’s Shoes and sparkles from Jeweliette Jewellery.

Tell us about your hair and makeup for your wedding — who provided hair & makeup? What is the general look you were going for?

My biggest goal for hair and makeup on the day was to feel like a slightly done up version of myself. Denise Elliott gave me the perfect amount of glam with a focus on bold lashes and a tasteful winged eyeliner.

Nadia Bullock achieved a beautiful everyday curl that lasted for the entire event (until I threw my hair in a top knot at the end of the night).

What beauty staples were in your wedding day makeup bag?

After dinner, I put on my favourite lip colour, Rouge Gourmand Velours in Red Velvet by Lise Watier. A pack of glo minerals blotting papers also came in very handy!

In terms of designing the look and feel of your wedding decor, where did you find your style inspiration?

It ended up being a single photo from Pinterest that inspired the entire colour scheme and feel of the day.

How would you describe the style of your wedding?

My decorators/day-of coordinators, Best Day Ever, really helped take my Pinterest board with hundreds of images and narrow it down to a few different looks I seemed to be going for, which was incredibly helpful! We settled on something rustic to suit the farm setting, but paired it with some vintage elements, a hint of autumn, and little moments of glamorous sparkle.

Sounds like a lot, but I promise it worked!

Where did you honeymoon and why?

We did a mini moon for two nights in Whistler after our wedding and then a month later had a lovely honeymoon in Italy! There’s something so romantic about a post-wedding trip to Italy and it’s something I’d always dreamed of doing.

Local Bachelorette Party: I found a really girlie

Wedding Day: I had so much trouble finding

white laser cut lace dress from a local Vancouver boutique called The Latest Scoop.

It’s a really fun silhouette, with a dramatic low back. I matched it with blue lace up front pumps from Zara for a pop of colour.

a wedding dress. All of my ideas seemed to crash together into a gown that I had been led to believe didn’t exist. And then one day at Champagne and Lace, I tried on the 2623 Mori Lee gown and I never wanted to take it off. It wasn’t at all what I’d originally envisioned, but it was basically my undefined style rolled into one dress and we all knew it was the one!

Vegas Bachelorette Party: I went for something

slightly scandalous, compared to my usual taste. It was an online purchase from ASOS

by Missguided and had this plunging deep v-neckline and a gorgeous lace skirt.

Bridal Shower: This was my Cinderella

moment! I wanted to wear the most ridiculously over-the-top princess dress, so I settled on a prom dress from ASOS by Chi Chi London. I also wanted to veer away from white for a moment and opted for a pale blue dress with gold detailing.

It was a blast to wear and everyone loved it (or so they told me)!

Rehearsal Dinner: Our rehearsal dinner was

very casual. After all the planning, I decided to just order pizza and enjoy the evening as stress-free as possible. I wore a white, boho-style ‘Lilith’ dress from Gentle Fawn.

Post-Wedding Festivities: As soon as the

speeches were done and the temperature cooled down, I put on my favourite faux leather jacket from Joe Fresh, threw my hair up into a top knot and added my signature red lip colour. It wasn’t a planned move, but it ended up being something that really made me comfortable for the rest of the evening.

Chinese Dinner Reception: My favourite

dress of them all! I found a tea length white dress from the same store where I purchased my wedding dress, Champagne and Lace. The designer is JS Collections and it’s cut in the most figure flattering way, and made in extremely comfortable stretchy fabric. w w w.we d l u xe .co m

As you can imagine, I browse a ton of fashion blogs like Gal Meets Glam, Atlantic Pacific, Damsel in Dior, and so on. I’m often on news sites, as I like to stay up to date on current events. Does Instagram count as a website? I feel like I spend a heck of a lot of time on there!

What books are on your bedside table?

I just finished Brain On Fire by Susannah Cahalan and am currently reading Before We Met by Lucie Whitehouse.

What magazines do you read on a monthly basis?

What is an indulgence you would never forgo?

Now that I won’t be getting wedding magazines every month, I’m not sure! I usually like to pick up the latest Fast Company. Oh, and I will sometimes invest in Domino Magazine for a little home decor love.

Monthly manicures and travel.

What is the best gift you’ve given recently? What is the best gift you’ve received recently?

I recently presented my cousin and his new wife with a little wedding highlight video.

They hadn’t hired a wedding videographer and I secretly shot video clips and surprised them with it. They were floored!

I purchased a pair of navy blue loafers in Italy that I absolutely adore. It’s so basic, but I love my Diamond Mosaic Blanket Scarf in ‘Quarry’ from Aritzia. It’s such a fall/ winter staple!

PAOLO SEBASTIAN With icy designs inspired by Slavic folktales of a winter empress, “The Snow Maiden,� is the latest collection from Australian couturier Paul Vasileff of Paolo Sebastian.

The collection is adorned with folk embroideries, delicate crystal embellishments and snowflakes, with tactile accents in cashmere and fur, evoking the luxurious couture feel that Vasileff has become known for.
