WELCOME TO THE APRIL ISSUE OF THE WEDLUXE

Global Trend Report. In each edition of the Trend Report, our team strives to bring you the latest in wedding, decor, fashion and beauty trends, while always focusing on what is new and trending across the globe. Part of thinking globally comes from discovering awe-inspiring properties from around the world, and in this issue, you’ll find luxury hotel destinations such as The Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh in Saudi Arabia or The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida, which inspired us to style the perfect outfits to complement each of these hot spots in the pursuit of style (pg 24). Our bride spotlight this month (pg 10) is Toronto-based jewellery designer Tara Fava, who worked with top industry professionals to capture all of the looks she wore for the events leading up to her wedding last Spring. While this spread features gorgeous fashion and an enviable shoe-selection, you really won’t want to miss Tara’s standout accessories. As could be expected from the in-demand jeweller, her engagement ring is totally to die for. While we recapped the best from the New York, Milan and London catwalks last issue, we couldn’t forget the latest looks from the City Of Lights. You can see all of the best wedding-worthy fashions from the F/W 2016 collections in Paris on page 37. For more global bridal fashion inspiration from designers based in countries like Israel, Colombia, and the USA, check out the latest designer lookbooks, starting on page 40. This issue’s signature sendoff (pg 90) highlights beGlammed, a popular app that is designed to meet all your beautification needs. If you’ve always dreamed of a personal glam squad (à la Kim, Kylie and Khloe), this app is a must-have. As always, we want to hear from you, whether there is a wedding trend you’ve seen, an outfit you’d like us to style inspiration for or a luxe location we need to visit. Don’t hesitate to contact our editors to let us know what you think is #WedLuxeTrending-worthy.

Tell us a little bit about yourself — Where do you live? What do you do for a living? What are some of your hobbies and interests?

In terms of deciding what to wear for your wedding, where did you find your style inspiration?

I live in the City of Vaughan, but my heart has always been in Toronto, which is where I enjoy shopping, dining and fun! Eight years ago, I started Tara Fava Jewellery with a focus on custom statement accessories for the exquisite bride.

I have always been an admirer of the 1960’s and Old Hollywood glamour so I wanted to infuse some of my favourite looks from the past with modern touches.

How would you describe your personal style?

I like to mix classic quality pieces with more inexpensive trendy pieces. Some of the clothing I wore was purchased from Zara, Intermix, Misha Collection, and Holt Renfrew.

My style is modern classic. I really love fashion and trends, but I tend to be attracted to very classic looks and clean lines. I don’t wear much colour — black, white and nude or blush seem to be my go-to colours. I prefer to wear colour in accessories like jewellery or purses than in my clothing. My signature statement pieces are capes and handpieces (both of which I wore at my wedding), and I have been wearing both for years.

Where did you shop for the pieces you wore to your wedding and the events leading up to it?

Tell us about your hair and makeup for your wedding

Jackie Gideon provided all-day service for my makeup. She gave me glowing, flawless skin, a sleek cat eye, and thick lashes with a coral lip. Allison Kam from the Anthony Passero Salon provided all-day hair styling service. I wanted two different hair looks on my wedding day, so in the morning she styled a beautiful middle-parted blow out with a wave, and for the reception she gave me an Old Hollywood-inspired side part hair style. w w w.we d l u xe .co m

W E D LUX E B R I D E S POT L I G H T

Did you wear a specific fragrance on your wedding day?

On my wedding day I wore a mixture of Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and Prada Infusion D’Iris. It’s an interesting mix that makes me feel confident and fresh. What beauty staples were in your wedding day makeup bag?

Luckily, I had Jackie Gideon there to tend to my makeup needs. I did touch up my lips with my favourite Givenchy cream lipstick in 102 Beige Plume and I had small purse-sized bottles of Tom Ford Vetiver and Prada Infusion D’Iris that I sprayed throughout the night. We would love to know about the process of creating your custom gown with Ines Di Santo — can you share with our readers a bit about the design of your gown and the process of creating it?

Finding a dress was very easy for me, as I have known Ines Di Santo for years and knew that when the time came, she would be the designer I would wear for my

14

WEDLUXE

GLOBAL TREND REPORT APRIL 2016

wedding. She suggested that I try on the ‘Madrid’ dress from the 2015 Fall/Winter collection, and with a couple of changes to make it my own, it was the perfect dress! Adding the cape in the evening and my jewellery to complement the dress made it feel modern and chic and very much like me. I believe it is very important for brides to feel like a very glamorous version of themselves for their wedding day. Did you follow tradition and have something old, new, borrowed & blue? If so, what were they?

Something Old: A vintage embroidered handkerchief from my great aunt. Something New: Christian Louboutin shoes. Something Borrowed: A heart-shaped metallic clutch. Something Blue: A Swarovski aquamarine crystal, which was pinned inside my wedding dress.

You are a well-known jewellery designer — how did you start your company?

Looking back now, I can see how I was destined to be a jewellery designer. From a young age, I remember going to the mall with my mom, and after an evening of looking around, I would come home to play dress up and accessorize. There are tons of pictures of me as a child with jewellery, dresses and high heeled shoes. I didn’t revisit my passion again until I was in my last year at York University, when I rediscovered my love of making jewellery and I started to spend more and more time creating new pieces. It just came naturally. With no formal training I registered a business and after I graduated, I concentrated on making Tara Fava Jewellery my career and life’s passion. I started making bridal jewellery when one of my clients asked me to make her pieces. I remember being so nervous, but was so honoured that she trusted me. That’s really when it all began.

What are your favourite jewellery pieces?

I choose my jewellery based on my mood for the day. Lately, I can’t leave home without my gold crystal pavé handpiece, which works well with just about any outfit. I am also absolutely in love with a gold link choker which is very much on trend right now. Of course, I love my diamond engagement ring and wedding band, which I designed. What trends do you see coming in your line of work?

We have a lot of new things coming up with head pieces, chokers, handpieces, shoulder pieces, and side earrings. One thought that has been floating around in my head recently is, “What is old, always becomes new again,” meaning that trends and designs of the past are to be recreated and modernized. What jewellery did you wear on your wedding day?

In the morning, I wore a shoulder piece that was encrusted with pearls, white opals and crystals, which gave the dress added sparkle.

w w w.we d l u xe .co m

17

W E D LUX E B R I D E S POT L I G H T

I also wore a delicate handpiece that was created to complement my fine jewellery and a vintage-inspired bracelet that included the same crystal, pearl and white opal elements found in my shoulder piece. In the evening, when I changed my hair and added a dramatic cape to my dress, I also changed my jewellery. I put on modern side earrings that included crystals and opals with a bracelet that matched, and kept my signature handpiece. What advice do you have for brides choosing their wedding day jewellery?

Your wedding day jewellery needs to be an extension of your personality. You have picked the perfect wedding dress and you need to complete the look with something that will make you sparkle as you walk down the aisle. Don’t overlook any detail or opportunity to add accessories. The advice I always give brides is that we need to select pieces that make you feel like yourself, but also make heads turn on your special day. I take my time with each bride to show them many different looks and find the pieces that complement their style and desired look for the most important walk of their lives. 18

In terms of designing the look and feel of your wedding decor, where did you find your style inspiration?

We were inspired by mixed metals, which was a detail inspired by jewellery. The idea was incorporated throughout the wedding, from our invitation design which featured gold chain accents, to the cake design, floral and decor. Where did you honeymoon and why?

We went to Italy. Besides being one of the most romantic places in the world, both my husband and I can trace our roots back to this beautiful country. We visited Rome, Florence, Pisa, and ended our stay in Sardinia for some relaxation. What was your favourite design element of the wedding?

The reception backdrop was jaw-dropping and even made me think: “Is this really my wedding?” The team from Dream Party Décor elevated our initial ideas to a level that made the space more than spectacular.

We’d love to know about all the outfits and accessories you wore for the day of, and other wedding-related events leading up to and following your wedding. Are there any special stories about any of the items?

Engagement Party: Our Engagement Party

took place on a Friday evening in August at a golf course, so I decided to go glamorous! I wore a long black BCBG dress that I altered to make my own. I designed two shoulder pieces in jet black and black diamond with an antique gold base to give the dress some added detail. I paired the shoulder pieces with a pair of one-of-akind earrings that matched the embellished shoulder pieces perfectly. I wore black Stuart Weitzman Nudist Sandals and a black Bottega Veneta Clutch. Bachelorette Party: I was ready for a girl’s

night on the town wearing a white oneshouldered Misha Collection dress that I paired with a white knee-length vest from Forever 21. I accessorized with Tom Ford heels, a pearl and crystal shoulder piece, a gold and pearl handpiece and my favourite “TARA” 14-kt gold and diamond cuff, all of which I designed. I finished the look with Marc Jacobs lipstick in Je t’aime and a red Alexander McQueen clutch.

and pearl filigree collar and body jewellery, which I paired with a matching cuff, pavé gold and crystal stud earrings and a gold handpiece. My shoes were nude Brian Atwood sandals. 2nd Bridal Shower: I wore a blush bell-

sleeved Zara dress with a Zara sleeveless vest on top. I accessorized with a gold collar necklace featuring pink and Aurora Borealis crystals and flower details with a matching bracelet. I also carried a Bottega Veneta clutch. Rehearsal Dinner: I wore a vintage 1980’s

black dress that I took from my mom’s closet years ago and had altered. The dress had a beautiful drape back that I loved. I paired it with a gold choker necklace and layered that with a gold mini chain that had the letters T F M (for Tara Fava Maida) and a gold pavé lariat necklace. My bracelets included my TARA cuff and a gold handpiece. I wore my black Stuart Weitzman sandals and a mini black Givenchy purse.

Bridal Shower: I greeted guests wearing a

lace A.L.C. skirt from Intermix and a white tank top from Zara. The biggest statement of the outfit was the one-of-a-kind gold w w w.we d l u xe .co m

I think that personalized gifts are always the best gifts to give and receive. I recently surprised my best girlfriend (and matron of honour) with a 14-kt gold name necklace. She cried! I would rather give than receive.
