s I write this, it's only been a few short days since the "wedding of the year" (aka #whenHarrymetMeghan) mesmerized more than two billion people worldwide. An entirely new generation of little girls and boys have been left with indelible impressions of a fairytale royal wedding. I suspect it won't be long before a few more brides choose streamlined wedding gowns, bateau necklines, and we see a potential resurgence in the tiara accessory. Maybe I shouldn't admit it, but I'm old enough to remember with precision accuracy the wedding of Prince Harry's parents, Charles and Diana. I was seven years old, and my Mom woke me up in the wee hours of the morning to witness a 20-year-old bride emerge like a butterfly out of a glass carriage, wearing the biggest wedding dress I'd ever seen. I think at that very moment, I was hooked on the beauty and tradition of weddings and WedLuxe was probably subconsciously planted as a seed somewhere in the back of my childhood mind. While so many traditions of marriage (and royal weddings) remain the same, in the span of a few short decades, so much has changed. Thanks to Meghan Markle, our view of a modernday princess (ok, Duchess!) is now that of a self-made, confident, successful, charitable, biracial feminist. What a win for Prince Harry and for the minds of seven (and seventy) year olds around the world! The future is here, but tradition is still the very basis for weddings, and marriage is as old as civilization itself. Looking back a few hundred years and with the theme of our "White Haute" issue in mind, we can thank Queen Victoria for totally bucking tradition and choosing a white wedding gown, a rare choice at the time, and one that immediately changed the course of wedding fashion (and decor) history. To celebrate the wondrous world of white, this issue is FILLED with all sorts of pretty interpretations. Kudos to our incredible WedLuxe Glitterati members who got together and created our fourteen stunning styled shoots starting on page 134 with white as their jumping off point. Even now, after twelve years of publishing WedLuxe, whether it is linen white contrasted with bold colour—reflective, iridescent, eggshell, or blue-hued—I am still in love with wedding white and all that it represents. But more importantly, I still believe in the undeniable power of love and that marriage will forever stand the test of time.

I'm writing this in May but by mid-June 2018, my friends at engagesummits.com (and I!) will have welcomed hundreds of the world's top luxury wedding professionals to Engage! 18 at the fairmont banff springs nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Canada. As a Canadian, I am incredibly honoured and excited to have been named the guest creative director for this world-renowned professional conference. I created the official event logo and brand guidelines, and referenced every Canuckism I could think of while I dreamt up the direction/inspiration boards for the many events that will take place over the three days of the conference. Also special thanks to Vanessa, Ana, and Liz from US-based two paperdolls who are insanely talented graphic designers who pushed all sorts of boundaries to deliver some jaw-dropping paper products and more for this event. It is also a dream come true for me to collaborate with Edgar Zamora of LA-based revelry event designers on the gala, which is designed to be one for the record books! Country Chic Meets Gatsby Glam

The day before the wedding, Rachel and Michael hosted an intimate Chinese tea ceremony, followed by a dinner at the groom’s family home. For the tea ceremony, the bride wore a red qipao and a champagne-hued qipao, both handmade in China. The champagne garment took eight months to make and featured an embroidered phoenix with flowers outlined in 24-karat gold thread. The groom’s matching ensemble, also made and purchased in China, featured an embroidered dragon sewn with pure gold thread.

achel Bu and Michael Zhang first met on prom night in 2010. Though they were attending different high schools at the time, they ended up at the same after-party held at the fairmont royal york. The pair is unclear of how exactly they met, but one thing’s for certain: they didn’t like each other much at the beginning. “Whether it was over me rejecting his beer, an argument over a bowl of Chinese fried rice, a fight over the playlist, or all three events happening at the same time, that is how Michael and I first ‘clashed,’” recalls the bride. Roughly seven years later, the pair was spending Christmas at the groom’s family estate in Collingwood like they always do. On Christmas Eve, Michael took Rachel on a walk to see the newly-built chapel and tower on the property. Along the path, there were little lanterns hung from trees. Rachel remembers saying, “We are extra festive this year, aren’t we?” They arrived at the top of the tower just in time for sunset, which is when Rachel turned around to find Michael down on one knee. Rachel immediately blurted out, “Are you proposing?” to which Michael awkwardly replied “yes.” She accepted and nine months later, they said “I do.” The couple was married on October 1, 2017 in Meaford, Ontario. Laura Atendido of laura & co. events provided full-service event planning. “Laura was the master behind all the planning and she made my vision come alive! I was overseas planning for this wedding and only arrived in Toronto three days prior; I can’t imagine how the wedding would have turned out without Laura’s professional help,” recalls Rachel.

rachel a. clingen wedding & event design provided all floral and decor for the wedding, including the bride’s beautiful bouquet of blush garden roses, anemones, and lisianthus, accented with wispy astilbe and soft greenery.

CEREMONY NOTES The following day, Rachel and Michael tied the knot in a romantic ceremony on the groom’s family estate. “Sophisticated, charming, and enchanting with a rustic and rebellious undertone” was the inspiration behind the couple’s big day. Transportation was provided by luxury coach and included round-trip transport for guests from Toronto to Blue Mountain, as well as to and from all wedding events throughout the weekend. A private helicopter was also used to transport close family and friends; landing on the private helicopter pad on the family’s property.

The bridesmaids wore vibrant jewel tone gowns of their own choosing. The groomsmen wore custom formalwear from harry rosen. Stationery by palettera custom correspondences.

CREATIVE COCKTAIL HOUR After the ceremony, the pavilion was flipped into an upscale cocktail reception complete with an over-thetop charcuterie station, live oyster bar from rodney’s oyster house, and a perfume bar by aromachology.

After the cocktail hour, a draped walkway led guests from the family pavilion to the reception tent. The reception tent, complete with soft pink carpet, was provided by premier event tent rentals inc. and was transformed into a twinkling, floral wonderland by rachel a. clingen wedding & event design. An oversized floral tree acted as a canopy over the head table, creating an incredible focal point as well as an intimate space for the newlywed couple who sought to achieve the perfect balance between Chinese and Western traditions. The magnificent tree, made of roses and wild greenery, was a nod to the couple’s Chinese roots, shares Rachel. “The grand tree that stood behind the head table was a great representation of family and longevity.” One of the bride’s favourite Western elements was the magical ceiling, on which over one thousand roses were suspended between thousands of miniature fairy lights by firedog creative. According to the bride, “The starlit ceiling was the perfect setting for a Gatsby-like Western celebration.”

Rachel and Michaelâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s wedding cake was prepared by cake opera co. The white three-tier confection had intricate lace-like detailing that mimicked the ceiling and crown mouldings from their nineteenth-century Upper West Side home in New York City. A croquembouche, a macaron tower, and madeleines, also from Cake Opera Co., rounded out the dessert table. As a special treat, the brideâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s father had collected twenty-five bottles of wine from around the world, all from the year Rachel was born (1992), which were served to guests during dinner. lifford wine & spirits provided full wine pairing services and wine stewards for the duration of the wedding. After indulging in an Asian fusion meal prepared by culinary designs, guests returned to the pavilion, which had been transformed for the third time. This time, it was turned into a post-dinner speakeasy lounge designed by laura & co. events. The 1920s-themed space certainly wowed guests. It featured house rules, a cigar bar with a live cigar roller from frank correnti cigars ltd, and a DJ from sole power productions. sole power band performed during the reception. The entire day was captured by cinematographer corinne mcdonald films. The couple currently resides in New York City, where they are both entrepreneurs.

The pavilion was flipped once more into a late-night speakeasy lounge. Guests were invited into the speakeasy by serving staff who passed out special keys during dinner. Event planner laura & co. events designed the speakeasy with the help of contemporary furniture rentals inc., who provided the lounge furniture and faux fur throws.

Jag also had her late grandmother’s marquise wedding ring reset as a necklace on a rose gold chain. Baye also worked with Michael to design Jag’s tie, which was a major surprise for the groom on the big day. For the Sikh ceremony, Baye rocked an intricate magenta lengha from raja fabrics with traditional gold jewellery, all of which was gifted by her mother-in-law. A pair of ballet flats from bridesmaid Vanessa served as Baye’s “something borrowed.” Jag wore a traditional sherwani, also from Raja Fabrics, with a fuchsia turban that complemented Baye’s lengha.

Rose Quartz Romance

aye and Jag Kler’s epic romance began one New Year’s Eve when they first met at a restaurant and exchanged numbers. Two days later, Jag took Baye out on their first date to the very same restaurant. According to Jag, it was love at first sight, while Baye knew she was in love when he kissed her under the moonlight. Flash forward to summer 2015. The pair were visiting Baye’s family in New Brunswick and had spent the day whale watching in the picturesque town of St. Andrews by-the-Sea. After a delicious lobster dinner with Baye’s family, they began to play a friendly game of Pictionary. Baye remembers thinking it was strange that Jag wanted to be on her team, as usually, he welcomes a little friendly competition. Thirty minutes into the game, Jag began drawing pictures of things special to the couple, including a dachshund (representing their two beloved pups, Winnie and Mocha), the CN Tower (representing the city where their love bloomed), the Parliament buildings in Ottawa (representing where they spent their first Valentine’s Day and where they said “I love you” for the very first time), and finally, a ring! As he was drawing the ring, it hit Baye. The tears started flowing and it was then that Jag pulled the real engagement ring out of his pocket. “I wouldn’t have remembered what beautiful words he said had my family not been there to capture the emotional moment,” shares the bride. The wedding included two ceremonies, which took place in Stoney Creek and Toronto, Ontario on June 16 and June 17, 2017, respectively. As Baye is an event planner at laura & co. events, it was only natural that she would plan her own wedding with the help of her close friends and colleagues Laura Atendido and Ellie Martires. “Our bond made this wedding a special project for the team. It has not only been a pleasure working for Laura, but she and Ellie are some of my greatest friends. We knew they would help make all of our dreams come true and ensure the wedding days were both flawless,” says the bride. Laura helped with the creative direction prior to the big day, while Ellie was the day-of coordinator for both celebrations.

The stationery suite from paper & poste featured gold foil marbling and pastel hues inspired by Pantone’s 2016 Colours of the Year, Serenity and Rose Quartz. This dreamy colour palette, mixed in with agate and marble, served as the guiding inspiration for the couple’s entire wedding. Baye’s “Amour” clutch from bcbg max azria was an homage to her love of France.

Baye’s cushion cut engagement ring featured a single halo and thin rose gold band. This was complemented by two (perfectly stackable!) wedding bands given to her at each ceremony. All three rings were custom-designed and purchased from Nuno Rocha of the diamond studio inc.

It was like having a piece of her there with us looking over everyone.” –baye One single long stem peony was placed on two chairs in the front row in honour of the bride and groom’s late grandmothers.

CEREMONY IN BLOOM The second day of celebration was held at liberty grand entertainment complex, where rachel a. clingen wedding & event design lined the ceremony aisle with mini pink magnolia trees. The couple exchanged vows on a stage where sleek white planters of varying heights were filled with pastel blooms. A blush pink aisle runner led to a custom-designed serenity and rose quartzcoloured backdrop by event graffiti. White Chiavari chairs supplied by Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex completed the light and airy aesthetic. A close family friend performed the second ceremony that honoured both of their cultures. To kick things off, Baye’s little brother and nephew walked the couple’s dogs, Winnie and Mocha, down the aisle. Baye made her entrance to an acoustic version of “Kiss Me,” sung by one of her closest friends. “Jag was crying, everyone around us was smiling. It was perfect,” shares the bride. Baye and Jag decided to forgo traditional wedding vows in favor of writing their own. “Penning my own vows, including a nod to our dogs, was very important to me,” recalls Baye.

Catering was provided by liberty grand entertainment complex and included a five-star Indian fusion menu for the reception. Michael Coombs of michael coombs entertainment provided his DJ services and the groom’s cousins MC’d the celebration. In lieu of wedding favors, a donation was made to Carpenter Hospice in honour of Baye’s late grandmother, Norma. After the wedding, Baye and Jag immediately left for their “mini-moon” in Jamaica, where they stayed at the zoëtry montego bay jamaica. While on the Caribbean island, they paddled the calm Martha Brae River and dove off cliffs at sunset in Negril. The couple went on their official honeymoon this past spring, which took them to Paris and the French Riviera. They currently reside in Stoney Creek, where Baye is an event planner for laura & co. events and Jag is a realtor. The pair are expecting their first child in October.

A Glamorous NHL Wedding

M Former Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson served as the best man. The Design Co. provided all floral and decor for the wedding, including the bridal and bridesmaid bouquets.

elinda Currey met Erik Karlsson, Captain of the Ottawa Senators, through a mutual friend five years ago. Over time, they became friends and got to know one another, eventually realizing that they both wanted something more. “The friendship has never changed though. He will always be my best friend,” shares Melinda. Years later, Erik was busy planning the perfect proposal, one that was a true testament to their relationship. To provide some context, “Erik and I have always joked that we live in our own little world; to be more specific, we call it our bubble,” shares the bride. “Whenever either of us has a bad day or even a great one, we revert back to ‘our bubble’. This bubble always consists of two things: 1) It’s just the two of us and 2) There’s pizza.” One day, Erik asked Melinda to join him for lunch at one of their favourite restaurants in Ottawa. As they were walking to the restaurant, a man in a t-shirt bearing the logo of the couple’s favourite pizzeria walked up and said he was lost and needed to deliver a pizza to a woman named Melinda Currey. At that moment, a cameraman jumped out from behind some bushes. “I immediately thought that I was getting pranked by my brother (this is something he loves to do), so I was looking around wondering what was about to happen next,” remembers Melinda. Before she knew it, Erik was down on one knee holding open a pizza box with a ring in the middle. “He shakingly asked if I would spend forever with him in our bubble,” shares Melinda. Just as she accepted, she heard a faraway voice yell, “Did she say yes?” Turns out, Melinda’s father and brother had been standing on a nearby rooftop and had witnessed the whole thing. “Erik knows how much my family means to me and the fact that he planned for them to share that moment with us meant the world to me.” The wedding took place on August 5, 2017 in Ottawa, Ontario. Stacey Price of the design co. provided full event planning and design assistance.

The couple decided on a first look prior to the ceremony even though Melinda was hesitant about the idea. “I didn’t want it to take away from our ceremony, but that moment ended up being one of the best moments of the day,” she explains. When the moment arrived, Melinda ascended a 100-ft long staircase as Ed Sheeran’s “Photograph” played in the background. “When I reached the top, Erik turned around and it was the most emotional I have ever seen him. It was a moment just about the two of us.”

Candlelight was incredibly important to the bride and groom, so a variety of mixed-height pillar candles and floating candles from The Design Co. stood on mirrored and lucite pillars under the canopy and along the aisle. The monogrammed white aisle runner was provided by wedecor.

SKY HIGH VOWS Melinda and Erik said “I do” in the westin ottawa’s TwentyTwo event space. The unique venue offered panoramic views of downtown Ottawa, making it the perfect spot for their nuptials. The ceremony setup featured an airy custom-designed floral and ribbon canopy with lush draping and soft pillowy blooms. The altar structure and draping was provided by creative edge studio and installed by the design co. According to the bride, “The best

moment of the ceremony was when Erik switched to ‘Swenglish!’ Because his native tongue is Swedish, he sometimes mispronounces words in English, and of course, this happened during our vows. It made for a really emotional moment and made it uniquely ours.” After the ceremony, a cocktail hour was also hosted at The Westin Ottawa.

HOW SWEDE IT IS

The wedding reception took place at the national gallery of canada where The Design Co. brought a beautiful, fresh, gardeninspired palette to life. According to planner Stacey Price, “The focus was on keeping the florals full, organic, and ultra-romantic.” As guests entered the modern venue, they were wowed by a lush floral-filled tunnel that led into the Gallery’s Great Hall. After stopping for a quick photo-op with the Instagram-worthy floral arch, they made their way into the hall.

A set of Canadianinspired and Swedish-inspired cocktail bars were open to guests.

In keeping with the traditional yet glam theme of the wedding, gold and mirrored accents were incorporated into the main reception bar, which consisted of two bar setups connected by a customized neon sign from gaslight electric sign co. in the shape of the couple’s names. “It was the perfect spot for an impromptu guest photo-op or selfie,” recalls Stacey Price. ylvia Santos and Michael Astone’s first encounter was like something out of a romantic comedy. Sylvia, attending the University of Guelph at the time, had come to Toronto with friends to celebrate her 22nd birthday. She was walking on a downtown street when Michael first spotted her getting into a cab. Just then, Sylvia accidentally tripped over the curb. Who was there to catch her? None other than Michael! Sylvia didn’t end up taking the cab because she and Michael stayed outside talking, getting to know one another. Sylvia eventually returned to Guelph, but the two kept in touch and three months later, they went on their very first date. Nearly four years later, Michael and Sylvia were on a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway to New York City. “I did have a hunch something was going on but really didn’t have a clue as to when, where, or how,” remembers the bride. After dining out on both Friday and Saturday night and receiving no proposal, Sylvia started to wonder whether she had the wrong idea. On Sunday, Michael told her he had made a brunch reservation. On their way to the restaurant, he insisted they visit the metropolitan museum of art. Little did Sylvia know that this was when Michael was going to propose—and he’d hired a professional photographer to capture the big moment. The photographer, posing as a stranger, walked up to the couple and offered to take their photo. “On cue, Michael got down on one knee and asked me to be his. It was a moment full of excitement, love, and laughter,” shares the bride. Afterward, the newlyengaged couple made their way to the plaza hotel, where they enjoyed an afternoon of champagne while they called their closest friends and family to tell them the news. Michael’s formalwear was purchased from a custom Italian tailor. He paired his first tuxedo of the day with Christian Louboutin shoes from holt renfrew and a bow tie, suspenders, dress shirt, and cufflinks, all from harry rosen.

The couple was wed at saint clare of assisi catholic church. The decor was kept to a minimum at the request of the priest, however, two arrangements of fresh white and blush flowers mixed with greenery framed the altar. The brideâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s favourite moment of the day was seeing Michael tear up as she walked down the aisle.

The wedding reception was held at chateau le parc where d&d floral designs created a modern-meets-romantic floral wonderland. The space was filled to the brim with greenery, orchids, garden roses, hydrangea, and all sorts of crystal accents. Centrepieces ranged from 6-ft tall white trees to classic crystal candelabras and large white urns overflowing with fresh flowers.

The head table was a total showstopper. From the start, the couple insisted on a head table different from anything that had been done before. dream party decor worked with d&d floral designs to come up with the ultimate design. The final product included a custom-made structure with intricately-carved details and two Juliet balconies in soft shades of cream and champagne. The entire setup was flanked by twelve 4-ft tall crystal chandeliers from Dream Party Decor. Lush floral arrangements hung from the balconies, table, and off the front of the stage, in addition to dozens of crystal candleholders with white tealights that created a majorly romantic ambiance.

We relaxed and embraced the European way of living.” After spending two weeks in European bliss, the couple returned to Vaughan, where Sylvia is a naturopathic doctor and Michael is a chartered accountant and investment banker.

hough Stephani Zambrano and Steven Leyzac’s introduction may have been conventional, their engagement was anything but! The couple first met through mutual friends and within a few years, Steven was planning the ultimate proposal. One snowy December day, Steven asked Stephani to meet him at the front of their house. When Stephani opened the front door, she found Steven down on one knee beside an allwhite Christmas tree. Perched among the tree branches was none other than a ring box. Immediately after Stephani said “yes,” Steven made a phone call and before she knew it, a drone was flying over the house and had dropped enough pink balloons (pink is her favourite colour) to cover the entire front yard. One of the bride’s favourite elements of the day was their use of two floors at the adelaide hotel toronto. Guests enjoyed dinner in the 10th floor ballroom, before being escorted downstairs to the 9th floor for the dancing and entertainment portion of the evening. The eight-tier wedding cake designed by fine cakes by zehra was a total showstopper. The pearlescent white stunner, which featured an edible angel wing motif, sugar flowers, and a customized monogram on the fourth tier, was located in the 9th floor lobby on an ornate white table from luxe modern rentals inc. ulia and Andrew Agozzino met on the bus on their first day of high school and have been together ever since. Flash forward ten years to when Andrew invited Julia out for a date night in Toronto’s Distillery District. As they were walking to their favourite Mexican restaurant in the Distillery, they passed the love lock fence. “I had never really taken much interest in this love sign before, but this time I walked right up to it and jokingly hinted that this would be a cute place to propose,” remembers Julia. To her complete surprise, it was at this moment that Andrew pulled a lock out of his pocket that had “Marry me?” written on it. He then proceeded to get down on one knee and after popping the question, Julia excitedly replied “yes!” They never ended up going to the restaurant because Andrew had planned a surprise party with their families to celebrate the engagement. Each table was surrounded by white and gold chairs, also from Detailz Couture Event Rentals. Tablescapes were bursting with fresh elements, including gold stands topped with ferns, palm fronds, and hanging white flowers. White pillar candles stood at the base of each stand. Other centrepieces ranged from white planters with hydrangea, roses, and palm leaves to low runners of white flowers interspersed with candles in cylindrical glass holders.

Featuring a white and grey marble print, edible orchids and palm leaves, and the couple’s wedding date in Roman numerals, it was truly stunning. For an extra special touch, the intricate confection was suspended from the 30-ft high ceiling by a gold chain. It sat on a base of exotic greens and was rigged by s4 entertainment audio/visual.

The bride and groom were seated at their own private table on an elevated stage. The front edge of the table had a hedge of dense white hydrangea and cascading orchids mixed with candles. Behind the couple was a freestanding backdrop of exotic foliage and orchids that stood 15-ft wide by 12-ft tall. It made for a seriously eye-catching design statement. Six art deco-inspired chandeliers from luxe modern rentals inc. were suspended above the dance floor and head table. Later in the evening, guests took to the 60-ft by 60-ft dance floor, built by firedog creative and covered in marbled vinyl from event graffiti. Each corner of the dance floor featured four distinct lounge areas with semi-circular white leather sofas, square ottomans, gold-framed cocktail tables, and gold lamps with white lamp shades, all from Luxe Modern Rentals Inc. Meanwhile, in the centre of the dance floor was a custom-made geometric white plexi bar produced by Luxe Modern Rentals Inc. in conjunction with Detailz Couture Event Rentals. “The dance floor layout made for the most amazing party atmosphere; I couldn’t imagine any other setup being as fun and interactive as that was,” recalls the bride. sensations live music performed on the stage opposite the bar, which was embellished with troves of tropical foliage and white orchids. After their Miami chic wedding, the pair embarked on a two-week-long trip to Italy, where they visited Florence, Rome, and Positano. The couple currently resides in Maple, Ontario, where Julia is an accountant and Andrew is a professional hockey player.

heresa Liao and Ryan Sun have known each other since they were four years old. Their parents are longtime friends, however, it wasn’t until seven years ago, after they moved to Canada for school, that they began dating. Several years later, Ryan was hard at work planning an unforgettable proposal. For Ryan, popping the question involved a series of five gifts: a music box, an angel, a rose, the engagement ring, and a yearbook. The gifts were given to Theresa one at a time over several months. The fourth gift was the ring and it was then that he asked those four fateful words. Theresa was overjoyed and accepted, however, it wasn’t until the wedding day that Ryan divulged the hidden meaning behind each gift. The music box was not only a symbol of Theresa’s love for music, but represented that he will be by her side in good times and in bad, the angel was a symbol of protection, meaning Ryan would forever protect Theresa and her family, the rose was a promise to give her romance throughout their lives together, the ring represented his promise to be with her forever, and the yearbook, given to her one month prior to the wedding, showcased their most cherished memories. For an extra touch of romance, the first letter of each of the items spelled out “Marry.” The wedding took place on September 6, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. Flora Peng and Erin Zhang of fleur weddings and events provided full-service planning and according to the bride, they perfectly grasped the couple’s desire for a Western-meets-Chinese celebration. “Fleur Weddings was the best choice for us as they understood both Western and Chinese traditions and blended them together well. They really made me enjoy the entire wedding and I wasn’t stressed about the wedding day at all.”

The couple was married in a dreamy, floral-filled garden at casa loma brought to life by rachel a. clingen wedding & event design, who provided all floral and decor for the wedding. In an effort to enhance the existing metal structure on the property, Rachel A. Clingen Wedding & Event Design and fleur weddings and events worked together so that it completely blended in with the natural greenery surrounding it. Trailing greens, along with hundreds of blush, coral, and magenta roses, were affixed to the trellis for a stunning effect.

Theresa’s favourite moment of the entire day was when Ryan said his personalized wedding vows, revealing the special significance behind his five thoughtfully-chosen proposal gifts.

According to Theresa, the tree motif featured on the stationery and decor elements had two-fold significance. The first being that Ryan would always protect her, but also, “The growth of a tree requires water, sunshine, and air. To Ryan, I am his sunshine, water, and air. According to planner Erin Zhang, “Theresa views Ryan as her tree in life; he is the foundation and strength of her life, her inspiration. She wanted to have this symbolism featured throughout the wedding in many forms and elements.” The white, four-tier wedding cake was prepared by flour and flower cake design. It featured cascading flowers and a customized wooden cake topper from etsy bearing the couple’s names and the same tree motif used throughout the decor.

Perhaps the best part about the entire wedding was a very special, small, and adorable guest. “After we had confirmed our venue booking, I found out I was pregnant!” shares Theresa. “We had our baby four months before our wedding date and she was able to attend our wedding.” The family currently resides in Toronto, where Theresa is a housewife (and new mom!) and Ryan is an engineer.

Wild at Heart

t seems Cara and Zack Meyer were struck by Cupid’s arrow. The two first met on Valentine’s Day while Cara was vacationing in Port St. Lucie, Florida, enjoying some R&R during her university’s reading week. Meanwhile, Zack was in the sunshine state racing cars (he is a professional racing driver). Upon meeting, they quickly realized they were both from Toronto and the rest is history! Years later, Zack surprised Cara with a spontaneous trip to Italy, where his family was waiting for them upon their arrival at his mother’s home in Tuscany. One morning during the trip, Zack hopped on his dirt bike and rode around the scenic property in search of the best hilltop for his proposal. After securing the perfect spot, he took Cara there, got down on one knee, and asked her to be his wife. Cara and Zack’s wedding celebration took place on September 3, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. Thyra Chin of laura & co. events provided sameday coordination. rachel a. clingen wedding & event design provided all decor and floral for the wedding, including the bride’s loose bouquet of ivory garden roses, ranunculus, anemones, and Queen Anne’s lace. Greenery and wild berries were added for a more natural look.

Cara and Zack tied the knot at graydon hall manor beneath a stunning garden-inspired chuppah. The rachel a. clingen wedding & event design team designed the ceremony to look natural but still feel elegant and sophisticated. Low white planters filled with ivory florals, local berries, and fresh foliage lined the aisle. The chuppah’s overgrown aesthetic was created using wild greenery, rustic branches, and fresh white blooms. To top it off, oversized glass vessels filled with roses and more greenery were placed on either side of the chuppah. Jeremy Citron of all you need is love officiated the ceremony.

A lounge area was set up indoors for late-night relaxing and dancing. The lounge sofas and tables were provided by contemporary furniture rentals inc. Beverages and passed canapés were served during cocktail hour and prepared by couture cuisine corp.

The clear tent covering the top of the terrace was provided by premier event tent rentals inc.

RUSTIC MEETS MODERN rachel a. clingen wedding & event design transformed graydon hall manor’s picturesque terrace into a natural garden overgrown with greenery and flowers, including local seasonal wildflowers. Vines were affixed to the ceiling to give the impression they had grown there, while guest tables were embellished with large crystal vases containing ivory florals and more greenery. Crystal candleholders accented all tables and added a beautiful candlelit glow throughout the space. Alternating tables were detailed with low floral groupings using the same colour scheme.

One of the most unforgettable elements of the day was an inflatable, white, castleshaped bouncy house purchased by the couple, set up on the venue’s lawn for the ultimate Instagrammable moment. The couple, along with their wedding party, took to the castle for an afternoon of childhood fun!

To incorporate the bride’s love of nature, fine cakes by zehra designed a rustic-meetselegant six-tier wedding cake for the couple. It featured a tree stump base with an engraved heart bearing the couple’s initials, a handpainted depiction of graydon hall manor’s gardens, the spot where the couple said “I do,” and cascading white sugar flowers.

Entertainment throughout the day included a live violin performance at the ceremony from Alex Toskov, a DJ from maximum music dj service who performed at the reception, and illusionist Ray Chance who performed throughout the cocktail hour and dinner service. elle & be films provided their cinematography services. Post-wedding, the couple, along with their baby daughter, embarked on a two-week trip to Barbados. The newlyweds currently reside in Toronto.

Silvia’s unconventional 6-carat black square cut diamond engagement ring and diamond wedding band were purchased at corona jewellery company. Joseph’s wedding band was purchased from david yurman.

igh school sweethearts Silvia Cardoso and Joseph Miceli met in 2003, but it wasn’t until thirteen years later that Joseph popped the question. While visiting the island of Graciosa, Portugal, Silvia’s birthplace, the couple went on an excursion to Furna do Enxofre. This enormous volcanic cavern in the Azores was certainly a sight to behold, but the best part of the day was Joseph’s proposal. “Not only is this the island where Silvia was born, it is the most interesting part of the island. We were the first proposal story from this spot,” shares the groom. Silvia and Joseph tied the knot on January 20, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario. Malvina Chevolleau of fabulous occasions provided month-of coordination and partial design assistance for their dramatic, Alexander McQueen-inspired wedding. The bride, a wardrobe stylist, and the groom, a DJ and music producer, wanted their wedding to be a true depiction of who they are as a couple and they knew that the edgy designs of McQueen were the perfect inspiration.

Silvia and Joseph were married in a traditional Catholic ceremony at st. mary’s parish.

The reception was held at chateau le parc. d&d floral designs created a dark, moody space inspired by iconic British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, where muted colours and soft fabrics were juxtaposed with stark black and harsh metals for a truly dramatic statement.

“The darker colour palette was always a must throughout the planning stages. The vision was to dazzle guests with an innovative and bold design, pushing boundaries to create a showstopping, theatrical wedding.”–joseph

At the entrance to the reception was an eye-catching escort card table design. “With the reception hall being grand and impactful, we wanted a wow factor for the entrance,” shares planner Malvina Chevolleau. This came in the form of custom-constructed tables from D&D Floral Designs completely covered in white and green florals. In between the two tables was an arrangement with three clear vases of different heights containing green leaves and white amaryllis.

Six different tablescape designs were used throughout the ballroom, the largest of which were 10-ft tall, tree-like centrepieces made from an abundance of fabrics, including large swaths of black tulle with cascading crystal strands, suspended crystal chandeliers, and loose florals at the top and base. In contrast, other centrepieces ranged from pastel florals in modern black urns to gold spoon mirrors with tall black taper candles and florals at the base.

All eyes were on the head table, designed by d&d floral designs and described by Malvina Chevolleau as the “pièce de résistance.” In true Alexander McQueen style, the couple’s sweetheart table featured a mixture of bold elements and textures in the form of organza, tulle, sinamay, hydrangeas, roses, tulips, orchids, and cabbage.

bb blanc inc. provided AV support, one of the most important aspects of Silvia and Joseph’s wedding. Behind the head table was a 50-ft wide screen that displayed a montage of photos and videos from the couple’s epic underwater photo shoot in Tobermory, as well as images of florals and Alexander McQueen quotes.

libitum created a theatrical introductory video using footage from the couple’s engagement shoot. This was played as Silvia and Joseph entered the reception hall. The inspiration for this came from water, “as a symbol of the unconscious, as a place of darkness, but also as the source of new life. The entrance set the tone for how the night was going to progress,” shares the bride. During dinner, a quirky “Meet the Parents” video, shot by insert marketing, played for guests.

In keeping with the wedding’s dark colour palette, Silvia and Joseph opted for a black, five-tier cake from truffle cake & pastry that featured a mixture of dark purple and dusty pink roses, black tulle accents, and edible beading.

4korners, the official DJ of the Toronto Raptors, performed a late-night set, in addition to a special performance by the groom, otherwise known as joe ghost.

Catering was provided by chateau le parc and included an extravagant antipasto table and seafood buffet. The couple took to the custom-created dance floor from creative dance floors for their first dance as husband and wife. The glossy black floor featured a design from German artist Bettina Güber. The bride and groom performed a choreographed number to Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful,” something they had been practicing with George of your wedding dance.ca in the weeks leading up to their big day. The moment the music started to play, the lights went out and only a disco ball rigged by bb blanc inc. shone, mimicking the stars for an unforgettable effect. xpression video provided their cinematography services.
