I just returned from magical Maui, Hawaii where I attended the most perfect wedding of my dear friend Harmony Walton, founder of The Bridal Bar and @JetFete. Her gorgeous (and I mean GORGEOUS!) champagne-hued wedding gown was covered from head to toe in delicate, metallic, star-shaped sequins that shimmered like a mirror ball against the Hawaiian sunlight whenever she moved. Her gown was a custom design, lovingly created by one of the most influential (not to mention, kindest) bridal gown designers in the world right now, Hayley Paige, who was also a guest at the wedding. The wedding was beautiful, fun, and memorable for a million other reasons, too. Admittedly, I found myself overcome with emotion when Harmony came down the aisle with her dad to greet Bayo, her nowhusband. My happy tears were a wonderful reminder that even after spending fifteen years in the wedding industry and covering thousands of weddings, there is nothing quite like experiencing those moments of love, laughter, family, and friendship in person. Jennifer and Nav’s son, as well as Nav’s two nephews, were all incorporated into the wedding, the former as ring bearer and the latter as ushers. One of Nav’s nephews, VIK SAHI, who happens to be a Vancouver radio personality and producer for The Nat & Drew Show, also served as the MC.
ennifer Holfeld and Nav Dhaliwal’s love story began 15 years ago when the pair met through mutual friends. They quickly discovered that they had shared business interests and after meeting for coffee a couple of times and running into each other at social events, they started spending more time together outside of work. “Before we knew it, we were dating and the rest is history,” shares Jennifer. Nav proposed to Jennifer seven years ago at the FAIRMONT LE CHÂTEAU FRONTENAC in Quebec City. The proposal was like something out of a fairytale, complete with a horse-drawn carriage ride, chocolate-covered strawberries, champagne on ice, and an exquisite engagement ring picked out by Nav. On November 17, 2018, Jennifer and Nav finally tied the knot in Vancouver, British Columbia, with Jessie Kumagai of DREAMGROUP WEDDINGS + EVENTS helping to plan the multicultural affair from day one. “Jessie absolutely kept us on track and was a dream to work with,” recalls Jennifer. Jennifer and Nav were wed in a multicultural ceremony at THE VANCOUVER CLUB. “With Nav being Indian and myself Caucasian, we wanted to have a Western wedding with Indian flair,” says Jennifer. The result was a rich combination of jewel tone florals from FLOWERZ in shades of magenta, emerald green, and burgundy. In line with the romantic yet dark mood, blue velvet draping from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN ran along each side of the aisle and was hung behind the couple as they exchanged vows. Gold chairs, laser-cut lanterns, and blue velvet sofas finished off the decor.

A string quartet from MUSICAL OCCASIONS performed throughout the ceremony and cocktail hour. Jennifer and Nav walked up the aisle for their recessional to a custom arrangement of “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers.

EAST MEETS WEST Inside the Grand Ballroom of THE VANCOUVER CLUB, the East-meets-West fusion design came alive with vibrant jewel tones juxtaposed with classic gold accents. According to Jennifer, “I love the bright, vibrant colours which are often found in Indian weddings but wanted to combine them with some darker shades to tone it down for an overall ‘classy, rich, and decadent’ look.” The tables were covered in lush cobalt blue linens and guests sat on gold Grace chairs with blue velvet seat cushions from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN. Centrepieces comprised bouquets made up of greenery and purple, pink, and red florals from FLOWERZ, mixed with gold lanterns for a touch of Indian flair. For a serious statement, the head table had chairs with burgundy velvet seat cushions and was topped with multiple oversized floral arrangements surrounded by red taper candles.
Day-of stationery was designed by CORNWALL STATIONERY with an
Indian-meets-ArtDeco design style in mind.
The alcove in the ballroom was turned into a Moroccan-style lounge, with cobalt blue velvet draping, burgundy seating, gold poufs, and multiple gold lanterns, all from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN.
GRAND ENTRANCE According to Jennifer, “My favourite moment of the day was when we were introduced into the ballroom as ‘Mr. and Mrs. Dhaliwal.’” The newlyweds’ grand entrance was immediately followed by a lively Bhangra performance from VANCITY DANCE, in line with the “Indian fusion” theme of the day.

END NOTES Deciding to “wow” guests a little further, after the Bhangra performance came the Western tradition of sabering a champagne bottle. “After that, champagne was served to all and there was a congratulatory toast to kick off the rest of the evening,” shares Jennifer. The moment was captured by VANWEDDINGS INC. who provided their cinematography services. In keeping with the “Indian fusion” theme, Jennifer and Nav wanted to provide their guests with a dinner menu that incorporated both Western and Indian cuisine. The venue customized a menu that included mini vegetable samosas and spicy tuna tartare during cocktail hour and a Western-style, four-course plated dinner infused with Indian flavours. Guests also enjoyed a delicious dessert buffet which included strawberry jasmine cream puffs, Tahitian vanilla cheesecake, French macarons, mini pavlovas, chocolate almond caramel cake, and local artisanal cheeses.
Reception music for dinner and dancing was provided by MUSICAL OCCASIONS.

HONEYMOON After a quick stop in London for business, Jennifer and Nav flew to the Maldives for their honeymoon, where they stayed at the FOUR SEASONS RESORT MALDIVES AT LANDAA GIRAAVARU. “Absolutely every detail was exceptional. It was a bucket list travel destination for us and it was overwhelmingly perfect,” says Jennifer. The newlyweds currently reside in White Rock, British Columbia.

ABOUT THE COUPLE
A
lireza Mahmoudi first noticed Parmis Aslanimehr at a cafe in West Vancouver in 2014, but it wasn’t until two years later that they met again. In the fall of 2016, Parmis was out for dinner with friends to celebrate her upcoming move to Europe, when she posted a photo of her dessert to Instagram. Alireza, who had been following her on social media, saw her post and took the opportunity to ask her out on a date. Since she was leaving town anyway, she figured a date couldn’t hurt. According to Parmis, “That date changed the entire trajectory of my life; I never moved away and our beautiful relationship began to bloom.” Two years later, on January 14, 2018, Alireza planned an unforgettable proposal that truly spoke to their journey as a couple. The day started with brunch at their favourite spot, PROVENCE MARINASIDE. After brunch, and under the guise of killing time before their dinner plans in the city, Alireza suggested they visit the VANCOUVER ART GALLERY. “The art gallery was one of our first dates where we realized we had so much in common, yet we never had a chance to return to it until that day,” explains Parmis. After strolling around the first two floors of the gallery, they finally reached the third floor, and that’s when Parmis saw it—a vase filled with red roses and rose petals spread all over the rotunda floor. “The next thing I know, Alireza is down on one knee proposing to me and I hear camera flashes, as he had reserved that area and hired a photographer to capture this surreal moment,” shares Parmis. In March of 2019, Parmis and Alireza celebrated their marriage with not one, but two incredible events in Vancouver, BC with Jenny De Jong of COUNTDOWN EVENTS PLANNING & DESIGN helping to plan the elaborate weekend. According to Parmis, “Jenny is incredible to work with. She had every single detail under control and handled everything with grace.” Parmis and Alireza’s wedding weekend began with an epic, formal welcome party held on March 28, 2019. “We wanted to give our guests flying in from around the world two different events,” shares Parmis.
Parmis and Alireza’s invitation suite was inspired by the royal wedding and was all about understated elegance. It was designed by FLOURISH BY COLLEEN WINTON.
The welcome party was held at the FAIRMONT HOTEL VANCOUVER and had
a “castle garden” feel to it. The abundance of floral in the ballroom, and the specific incorporation of tulips and hyacinths, symbolized the onset of spring and Persian New Year.

D R E A M Y FA I R Y L A N D Two days later, on March 30, 2019, Parmis and Alireza were wed in an Iranian ceremony at the FAIRMONT PACIFIC RIM. The dream-like setting was as ethereal as can be, filled with baby’s breath, roses, and orchids. The 60-ft, floral-lined aisle led to a floating acrylic sofreh surrounded by candles. Framing the couple was a baby’s breath archway designed by TALA FLORIST and behind them was sheer white draping from ÉCLAT DECOR INC. Crystal candelabras, florals in plexi boxes, macarons from GANACHE PATISSERIE, and a traditional mirror all sat atop the sofreh.

Unforgettable moments from the ceremony included when the officiant read Persian poetry by famous poets Rumi and Hafez and when Parmis’ one-year-old nephew Rumi made his way down the aisle. Another special memory? “Looking into the mirror on our sofreh as husband and wife,” shares Parmis. “It felt surreal.”

To complement the starry night ceiling, VIP tables were covered in low floral garlands from TALA FLORIST punctuated by striking

Behind the couple were four large arrangements of hydrangea, roses, and baby’s breath, repurposed from the ceremony. “The feel of the wedding was modern yet romantic and truly whimsical. It was a fairytale and captured the bride and groom’s style perfectly,” says planner Jenny De Jong.

ngela Lin and Kenny Zhang’s whirlwind romance began when they met through mutual friends in February 2018 and within nine months, they were married! The wedding took place on December 23, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia, with Liting Chan of PARADISE EVENTS providing full-service event planning and design assistance. Angela and Kenny said “I do” at the VANCOUVER ART GALLERY, a venue that holds special significance to the bride. “I specifically chose the VANCOUVER ART GALLERY for two reasons: 1. I was a Fine Arts graduate from Simon Fraser University, and as an art student, every month I would visit the gallery with my friends and classmates. We had so much fun there. 2. I love Sex and the City, and I still remember Carrie’s (almost) wedding in the New York Public Library. I always wanted to have a similar wedding venue,” shares Angela. The intimate ceremony took place on the third-floor rotunda, which PARADISE EVENTS decorated with sheer draping and white uplights. Manzanita trees accented with blush hydrangea flanked the stage and added a wintery touch. Angela’s personalized, heartfelt vows to Kenny included the line, “Kenny, you’re the person I’ve been waiting for my whole life. From the first day I met you, I knew you were the one. Thank you for treating me like a princess and making all my dreams come true. Without you, my life is not complete.”

BLUSH ROMANCE The celebration continued at the VANCOUVER ART GALLERY, where the reception was also held. One head table and two long tables were arranged for the intimate soirée, which had just 80 guests in attendance. The colour scheme was blush, silver, and acrylic, as requested by Angela. “I wanted to have a simple but elegant wedding. My theme was blush pink, and my vision was a sweet, fresh, and heartwarming wedding,” shares the bride. Guest tables were embellished with peach pink linens, crystal candelabras, white taper candles, and sculpted arrangements of blush hydrangea on acrylic stands. Meanwhile, thousands of orchid blooms were affixed to ribbon and hung from the ceiling for a magical touch. The head table boasted the most eye-catching design of all, a suspended floral cloud of manzanita branches and two-tone orchids with hanging glass ornaments and silver butterflies. There was also a lush floral runner trailing down the front edge of the table and floral linens to match. The final touch was a hedge of white pillar candles running down the centre of the tablescape. “The head table was so beautiful. It created a fairytale look that made me feel like I was living in a wonderland,” recalls Angela.

tephanie Clark and D.J. Denner met on a rainy autumn night in 2014. D.J. claims it was love at first sight when he saw Stephanie walk into the lounge. “I was at the bar with my girlfriends when a handsome man in a suit asked if I wanted a drink,” recalls Stephanie. “I happily accepted the drink from D.J. and it turned out we had some mutual friends. I continued on with my night as I did not think I would meet my future husband at a bar, but D.J. was determined to find a way to see me again.” A couple of days later, Stephanie’s girlfriend told her that “D.J. Denner” was asking about her and wanted to know if she was available for a date. Stephanie immediately got butterflies and agreed to give out her number. Weeks later, their romance culminated in a first date at CHAMBAR. “We remember our waitress getting very frustrated with us because we were so consumed in our own conversation that we took forever to order our main courses. Ever since our first date, I haven’t left D.J.’s side,” shares Stephanie. D.J. proposed to Stephanie while the pair were vacationing in Whistler in December. “Whistler is a second home and very special place to us,” says Stephanie. With the magic of Christmas in the air and twinkling white lights surrounding them in Upper Village, D.J. got down on one knee and proposed. “Even though I had looked forward to this day for a long time, the proposal caught me off-guard and time seemed to stand still,” shares Stephanie. After FaceTiming all of their friends and family, the newly-engaged couple celebrated at their favourite restaurant, ARAXI, where the staff was waiting to congratulate them. The wedding took place on September 2, 2018 in Penticton, British Columbia at PAINTED ROCK ESTATE WINERY. Aly Armstrong of ALY ARMSTRONG EVENT PLANNING & DESIGN provided full-service planning and design assistance. According to Stephanie, “I worked for Aly years ago as her assistant and I always dreamed of planning my wedding with her. When the time came, I was so excited to call Aly to begin the planning process!”

CLASSIC ELEGANCE The pair took advantage of the picturesque surroundings, choosing to get married on the winery’s front lawn, with Skaha Lake behind them, the sun shining down from above, and a string quartet from OKANAGAN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA performing in the background. Groupings of white delphinium mixed with greenery from VIVA EVENT DESIGN lined the aisle, leading to a natural floral arch covered in greenery and more white florals. “I loved so many details; the first that comes to mind is the flower arch. The arch was beautifully constructed and the fresh florals were vibrant and cheerful,” shares Stephanie.
Stephanie walked down the aisle with her mother and later exchanged personalized vows with D.J. After being announced husband and wife, guests tossed flower petals to celebrate. Petals were placed in stylized cones sourced from ETSY.
To complement the venue and keep the focus on the incredible view, guests sat in clear Chiavari chairs from VIVA EVENT DESIGN.
For the cocktail reception, blue and white lounge furniture from VIVA EVENT DESIGN was placed on the lawn next to custom games such as lawn bowling and a monogrammed cornhole specially made by D.J. for the day. The tented reception was held outdoors at PAINTED ROCK ESTATE WINERY. The “glamorous winery wedding” theme continued with Hamptons-inspired accents in the form of a grey and soft blue colour palette. “Early on we decided we wanted to create the perfect balance of classic elegance and fun for our wedding. After our first meeting with Aly, our theme unfolded to be an elevated winery wedding with a backyard Hamptons feel. This meant lots of white, blues, champagne, and oysters,” says Stephanie. Natural white linens were used on the tables and accented with dove grey napkins, which perfectly complemented the lush centrepieces of greenery and white florals. Lace charger plates, light blue water goblets, vintage flatware, and grey calligraphed place cards finished off place settings. Hanging chandeliers provided by ALL OCCASIONS PARTY & EVENT RENTALS hung from the roof of the tent for a touch of sparkle. For a major design statement, a suspended floral structure floated above the king table. “The hanging floral over our head table was a breathtaking masterpiece that provided a dreamy romantic element to the tent,” recalls Stephanie.

In that moment, we were able to process and appreciate how beautiful everything was around us and how lucky we were to have found each other,” remembers Stephanie. Plus, right when the song ended, all of their guests stormed the dance floor and began dancing around them. The party had begun! After their epic outdoor affair, the newlyweds enjoyed a “minimoon” in California, where they stayed at the MONARCH BEACH RESORT in Newport Beach and the BEVERLY HILLS HOTEL in Beverly Hills. They relaxed by the pool, golfed, went for walks down the beach, and dined at delicious restaurants. “It was so nice to be away just the two of us,” shares Stephanie. The newlyweds currently live in Vancouver, where Stephanie is a sales and event coordinator and D.J. is a real estate agent.
“Not only was the scenery and decor beautiful, but you could feel the love and joy in the air. Everyone was relaxed, happy, and really excited to celebrate the love D.J. and I share. –STEPHANIE

arnian and Ehsan met three years ago but only started dating when their paths crossed again one and a half years later. As soon as they got together, they knew it was meant to be. “We remember it was only six months into our relationship and we were on a trip to Chicago, we were having the time of our lives and on the last night of our trip, we both just kind of looked at each other and knew this was it. Fast forward a year after that trip, and we were engaged,” shares Parnian. The proposal was an intimate affair, just between the two of them. According to Parnian, “I remember Ehsan seemed really nervous and wasn’t really being himself that day. The moment he kneeled down, I completely blanked. It literally felt like a dream!” Parnian and Ehsan’s wedding was held on August 11, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia. END NOTES As Parnian and Ehsan had guests travel from all over the world to share in their celebration, the newlyweds decided to delay their honeymoon until the following year and instead, take time off to spend with their family and friends in Vancouver after the wedding. This past May, Parnian and Ehsan finally took their “latermoon” and travelled to London, Paris, Bordeaux, and Nice. The couple resides in Vancouver, where Parnian is a digital marketing manager and Ehsan is a business owner.
All eyes were on Parnian and Ehsan’s sweetheart stage that had orchids trailing over the edge, a hydrangea-covered stand with two chandeliers affixed to it, and two life-size cherry blossom trees. t was in an interior design course at the British Columbia Institute of Technology that Gloria Liu and Enzo Shi first met. They went out for dinner with a group of classmates after their last field trip and started chatting. That night, Enzo texted Gloria to make sure she got home safely, and from that point on, they texted every single day. In December 2015, Enzo started planning a romantic New Year’s Eve proposal. After counting down to midnight, the pair watched fireworks explode in the sky, and just as they finished, Enzo reached into his pocket, got down on one knee, and proposed. “He chose this day because January 1 means ‘one heart for one person’ according to a Chinese saying,” shares Gloria. The wedding took place on February 17, 2019 in Vancouver, British Columbia. with Kitty Tsai of WEDO WEDDINGS ETC. providing full-service planning and design. RINTZYLEE DESIGNS helped bring the couple’s custom invitation boxes to life. Inside of each rose gold gift box (which bore the couple’s monogram) were two bottles of rosé, chocolates, and an acrylic invitation with white calligraphy sitting on a bed of faux greenery.

ROSE GOLD ROMANCE Gloria and Enzo knew from the start that they wanted to combine their ceremony and reception, holding them both in the same space with the same setup. They ultimately decided to tie the knot at the JW MARRIOTT PARQ VANCOUVER. Taking inspiration from What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, a Korean television show Gloria loves, the overall theme of the wedding was crystal palace. The wedding was planned and designed by WEDO WEDDINGS ETC.

The welcome area was a total showstopper. When guests arrived, they were greeted by a rose gold arch covered in florals by BALCONI FLORAL DESIGN STUDIO that led to a crystal
tunnel lined with white draping. The tunnel then opened up into a room with a decadent dessert table and a gorgeous photo backdrop. The dessert setup featured a cascading runner of pink flowers and candelabras of varying heights with rose gold leaf wreaths, all by WEDO WEDDINGS ETC. Confections included a hanging chandelier cake, cupcakes, monogrammed sugar cookies, and cake pops, which were prepared by

S TA R R Y N I G H T In the ballroom, WEDO WEDDINGS ETC. designed a starry night extravaganza, highlighted by a 32-ft long aisle leading to a 32-ft by 16-ft stage. Above the aisle hung a sea of crystal chandeliers and fringe-inspired decor. At the back of the stage was a dramatic arch structure with an LED “starry night” backdrop from KLAR AV. Blush and cream florals mixed with rose gold leaves were affixed to the arches and floated down off the front edge of the stage. For the ceremony, “The bride walked in from the open drape to greet all of the guests and walked towards the groom on the stage,” shares planner Kitty Tsai. While standing on the stage, the couple exchanged vows and according to Gloria, “Enzo expressed his feelings to me in a way I never expected and it brought both of us to tears.”

ABOUT THE COUPLE
A
li Assadkhan first saw Sanaz Beikoghli at a fashion show in 2015. He was immediately mesmerized by her glowing smile and beautiful eyes, and lucky for him, they were introduced to one another later that night at the show’s after-party. The following week, Sanaz attended Ali’s birthday party and according to Ali, “There was a moment when Sanaz picked up a couple of shots, reached back, and handed one to me as she stared at me. We took the shots together and have been celebrating ever since.” The movie-worthy proposal took place in Los Angeles. The couple were vacationing in Beverly Hills and Ali had planned an unforgettable night in downtown LA at the end of which, he would finally pop the question. He told Sanaz that he had made a reservation at Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant at L.A. Live. Just as they were about to enter the restaurant, Ali claimed he had to take a very important business call (in actuality, this was his signal for the surprise flashmob to begin). As a lover of music, Sanaz was excited by the spectacle unfolding in front of her and pulled out her phone to record it. The dance began with a song by French Montana before switching to “Marry You” by Bruno Mars. During the last few seconds of the song, the dancers aligned and spread apart to create a human aisle, Ali appeared, walked down the aisle, and proposed. A winter wonderland-inspired celebration took place on January 19, 2019 in Vancouver, British Columbia at the FAIRMONT PACIFIC RIM, with DETAILS BY HALEH LUXURY EVENT PLANNING AND SOFREH DESIGN providing full-service planning and design assistance.

SECRET GARDEN DETAILS BY HALEH LUXURY EVENT PLANNING AND SOFREH DESIGN, LE MARAIS DÉCOR, and FLOWERZ created a winter wonderland fantasy at the FAIRMONT PACIFIC RIM. Accented by baby’s breath for an ethereal touch, the bespoke ceremony setup took inspiration from the snowy plains of Narnia. The all-white theme extended to the manzanita trees, lamp posts, candles, and plinths that lined the aisle, as well as the chairs, carpeting, and velvet draping.
The celebration began in Persian tradition, with Sanaz and Ali seated behind the sofreh, before transitioning into a Western ceremony where the pair exchanged vows. According to Sanaz, her favourite moment was “my father walking me down the aisle towards Ali. All of our friends and family were surrounding us, my heart was beating out of my chest when I saw him standing there. I couldn’t wait to marry him.”

Entertainment for the evening included DJ MOHSEN, DJ SEPAND, violinists Nico and Yene, and a 20-person choir who gave a surprise performance right before dessert was served. These

As dinner began, Nico, an electric violinist the couple had flown in from Dubai, started to play and Sanaz decided to get up and start dancing. “Sanaz was on the dance floor in front of me, dancing so elegantly and freely to the music and violin; she was dancing for me, alone in her element. All of a sudden the snow began to come down and it was just the most beautiful moment that I’ll never forget,” recalls Ali. Sanaz and Ali jetted off to the United Arab Emirates for their honeymoon, where they visited Dubai and Abu Dhabi. “Our honeymoon was a balance between relaxing in the sun, fine dining (a lot), visiting the spa, and experiencing fun activities such as riding dune buggies in the desert of Dubai and visiting the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and Louvre in Abu Dhabi,” shares Sanaz. The couple currently resides in West Vancouver, where Sanaz is a realtor and Ali is an entrepreneur.
