Warren Miller himself returns in 67th film ‘Here, There & Everywhere’ shown at ABT on Dec. 2

Warren Miller Entertainment’s sixty-seventh film Here, There & Everywhere comes to Alberta Bair Theater on Friday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. Tim Hedin, owner of SkiBoot Rx, will, once again, emcee the event and announce raffle prize winners. “We are thrilled to return to the screen with the support and inclusion of the patriarch of winter stoke, Warren Miller” said Managing Director Andy Hawk. “This year’s project has been an incredibly rewarding opportunity for the athletes, film crew and staff who were able to work directly with him again.” The 67th installment of iconic winter fun brings the thrill of action snowsports to enthusiasts everywhere, as the world’s most accomplished skiers and snowboarders scour the globe for

untracked powder and the pursuit of adventure. Narration by Olympic gold medalist Jonny Moseley and on-screen interviews with the legendary Warren Miller deliver the nostalgia of skiing’s roots and a zeal for discovering new terrain. Venture with world-renowned athletes JT Holmes, Jeremy Jones, Seth Wescott, Jess McMillan, Ingrid Backstrom, Marcus Caston, Wendy Fisher, Tyler Ceccanti, Kaylin Richardson and others as they push the boundaries of their talent on snowcapped peaks, vast glaciers and towering, big-air jumps. Globe-trotting from the U.S. and Canadian Rockies to sparsely populated lands like Greenland and the Swiss Alps, these skiers and snowboarders prove that the joy of winter can be found wherever you seek it. Here, There & Everywhere opens the door to showcase a progressive side of snowsports, from fat biking, backcountry snowmobiling and hill-climb racing (featuring Polaris pro Keith Curtis) to dogsledding and the ever crowd-pleasing pond skimming. And, as with every annual tour, the film awakens our desires to hit the slopes and sparks excitement for the coming winter season. This screening of Here, There & Everywhere is sponsored by ClockTower Inn/Stella’s, Uberbrew and The Zone 96.3. Tickets, $14 general admission, are available at the Alberta Bair Theater Box Office on the corner of 3rd Ave N and N Broadway, by phone at 406-256-6052 (box office hours are Monday through Saturday, 12:00 Noon until 5:00 p.m. ) and/or online at www.albertabairtheater.org.

‘The Naked Magicians’

Following sold out shows and rave reviews across the world including London’s West End, the world’s naughtiest and funniest magic show The Naked Magicians is coming to Alberta Bair Theater Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, November 16 at 12:00 Noon at the Alberta Bair Theater Box Office on the corner of 3rd Ave N and N Broadway, by phone at 406256-6052 (box office hours are Monday through Saturday, 12:00 Noon until 5:00 p.m. ) and/or online at www. albertabairtheater.org. A VIP ticket is $69 and includes one of the best seats in the house AND a meet & greet opportunity after the show. Tickets are $50, $39, $34 and $29. Limit of eight (8) tickets per purchaser. Direct from Australia, the show features magic, mirth and more than a touch of mayhem as these two hot and hilarious magicians say abracadabra and take magic to a whole new level. Left without sleeves or pockets, their saucy magic is baffling and entertaining, bringing a new meaning to “now you see it.” This boisterous R-rated magic show strips away the top hats and capes, promising full frontal illusions. Good magicians don’t need sleeves and great magicians don’t need pants. This show proves just that! While it takes a walk on the wild side, there is not 100% nudity; after all, magic is illusion.

Everyone makes it on the “nice list!” Some of you will even make it to the really-nice list and will receive $100 in cold hard cash, $20 in cold hard cash or $25 in gift cards to local restaurants. Today is all about getting Santa ready for his long Christmas Eve journey! You will join hundreds of other Festive Holiday Characters and make your dash for cash along the parade route in Downtown Billings! This “Dash for Cash” is the preamble to annual Billings Holiday Parade! The race starts with the lighting of the Christmas Tree. This race is for every single family member (except the 4-legged furry ones) with family pricing! The parade route is less than 1 mile long (.71 to be precise), so even those with the shortest legs will have a jolly ol’ time! Let’s make this first year of the race the happy happiest time! Dress up like your favorite holiday character or bring out your favorite holiday outfit! Don’t own a holiday suit? That’s ok, the race shirts this year are Santa or Elf Themed! We’ve also thrown in a hat to match! What’s your favorite holiday character? Rudolph? An Elf? Scrooge? A snowman? Pick your favorite, dress up, grab the whole family and we’ll see you at the dash! The first two people across the finish line receive some extra fun goodies! Finisher food consists of hot chocolate, candy canes and cookies!! Just what Santa, himself, ordered! Be sure to stay for the Billings Holiday Parade after you dash! The one true Santa will be there as he makes his annual trip to Billings as he helps us kick off our hoiday season! Downtown Billings, 2815 2nd Ave N., Billings, MT 59101 6:40 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. $30

PHOTOS WITH MERRY AULD FATHER CHRISTMAS!

WHO: Father Christmas comes to Billings for family photo fun! WHAT: Come get your picture taken with Merry Auld Father Christmas! WHEN: November 25, December 2, 9 and 17 (see details below) WHERE: Barjon’s Books in downtown Billings! Having a photo taken with Santa is a modern tradition, but how about something really special? This Winter Solstice season, Old Father Christmas will be visiting Barjon’s books in Billings and allowing his venerable self to be photographed with you, your family and friends! Come and meet a living icon of ancient origin for a photo that will be sure to bring glad tidings of great joy to you and the wee ones in your family! While Santa’s origins are connected to this elder Father Christmas, the contemporary Santa Claus we all know so well was introduced to us in a 1930s Coca-Cola Advertising campaign! (Why do you think he’s dressed in red and white?!) Many Christmas traditions arose originally in Europe and were woven

together to bring us our contemporary Christmas: the Christmas tree, wreaths, and Old Father Christmas himself. Each serve to remind us that in the bitter cold of winter, as the days get shorter and the nights grow longer, the Sun is “reborn” at the Solstice to ring in a New Year! Come reconnect to a bit of the history that brought us to the fun and frolic of Christmas today! The cost for each photo is a $3 - $5 donation to the local non-profit educational organization MusEco Media and Education Project (www. MusEco.org.) Father Christmas will be at Barjon’s on Friday evenings, November 25 and December 2; and Saturday afternoons, December 10 and 17 from 1:00p.m. – 2:30p.m.. For more information call or text Kris at 406-200-8208, or call Barjon’s books at 252-4398. Barjon’s Books, 223 N 29th St., Billings, MT 59101 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. $3 - 5 suggested donation for photo with Father Christmas NOV. 25

This anchors the ‘truth is stranger than fiction’ wobble to songs about 21st century rural life. (Hed)p.e.

The quest to uncover the truth has given California-based hardcore pioneers (Hed)p.e. new life. While the band has weathered the stormy waters of the music business for over a decade and enjoyed a slew of successful albums, it’s their quest for answers that has given them purpose. I believe (Hed)p.e’s longevity is due to the fact that our records are more than just music,” concludes Jahred. “Some of the greatest artists have used their music for social commentary. Bands like Rage Against the Machine,

System of a Down, Sex Pistols, and The Clash, have all empowered their fans to rise up to fight injustice. Since we’ve got involved with The Truth Movement, I’ve heard from thousands of fans who are excited that we’re using our music to explore things other than girl and boy problems. The best bands use their music for more than dancing and getting wasted.” (Hed)pe has their sights firmly set on the New World Order and they are using their brand of hardcore to bring it down. While early (Hed)pe albums found them mixed up in the rock n’ roll lifestyle, the group have been reborn to become the voice for a movement that empowers the youth and explores Secret World History, and at the same time promotes unity and political activism. Always pushing the envelope, (Hed)pe’s new album EVOLUTION is built on heavy dark riffs and deep, solid grooves. (Hed) p.e.’s new album “Evolution” is in stores now! MSUB art exhibition explores society’s love-hate relationship with technology Montana State University Billings art student Patrick Williams will present his senior capstone exhibition, “[R]evolution” November 28–December 16 in the student gallery on the first floor of the Liberal Arts building on the Montana State University Billings campus. An opening reception, free and open to the public, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 29, in the student gallery. Williams' art education was interrupted when he took a summer job as a graphic artist in 1985, and forgot to quit for nearly 30 years. The digital revolution during that time saw an unprecedented change in the tools available to artists, and Williams changed his skill set and focus along with it. "I originally planned a concentration in drawing, with a lot of photography and sculpture thrown into the mix. Then, as digital tools appeared, and I was required to learn them for my career as a commercial artist, my fine art began to use more new media and fewer traditional materials,” Williams said. “When I finally decided to return to school and finish my degree, I was conflicted about whether to work in traditional media or in digital; then I realized that the conflict between the two in my own mind was mirrored in society’s larger struggle to adapt to the promise — and peril — that new technology brings.” The exhibition features two distinct styles. The digital work explores the positive aspects of technology, both in the creation of the work and in its content, which envisions a utopian harmony between humanity and machines; while the traditional work explores some of the pitfalls in our ever-growing dependence on computers and smartphones.

Left: Chaos Theory (Butterfly 2.0), 2016. UV print on metal, 36”x24”. Right: Fix, 2016. Mixed media on watercolor board, 30”x20”

“The two styles of art reflect two very different aspects of my personality and creativity. The digital work is born from my rational, mathematical mind, while the traditional work comes from my intuitive, emotional mind. Both parts demand a creative outlet, so this work lets each half have its own voice,” Williams said. More information on the exhibition is available online at 2at2. net/revolution

Montana Women's Run donates $101,000 to women's services in Billings The Montana Women’s Run announced today that $101,000 is being donated to women’s health and fitness programs in the Billings community from funds raised this year. This year’s funds are donated to five worthy causes, including the YWCA, $40,000; Billings Clinic Foundation, $30,000; Rocky Mountain College Women’s Cross-Country Scholarship Program, $5,500; MSU-B Women’s Cross-Country and Track Scholarship Programs, $5,500; and Billings YMCA, $20,000. With this year’s contributions, the Montana Women’s Run has donated over $1,065,523 to local organizations that promote women’s health and fitness. The YWCA provides many services to women through their Gateway House, domestic violence training, day care and other programs that are not otherwise available in the Billings community. They also sponsor educational classes for people of all ages. The YWCA has partnered with the Montana Women’s Run for many years, providing volunteers for the annual Kick-Off Dinner. Billings Clinic’s Women’s Wellness program provides health screenings, including mammograms, pap smears, and blood panels, for women who are underinsured or without insurance. During the period from April 2015 through August 2016, Billings Clinic provided 114 mammograms and 36 diagnostic services to 119 under- and un-insured women in our region. In conjunction with those screenings, Billings Clinic also provided 52 pap smears, 83 office visits, and 50 lab panels paid for by the Women’s Wellness fund. Rocky Mountain College uses the funds to award a scholarship to a female in their cross-country or track programs. Rocky has supported the Montana Women’s Run for many years by providing space for the events’ 8-week Getting Started Clinic and the Kids’ Run. Awarding the scholarship to a female crosscountry or track runner recognizes the Montana Women’s Run commitment to health and fitness. The women on the MSU-B women’s cross-country and track teams have served as positive role models to all young people in our community. Academically, the

women’s team has perennially been named to the NCAA All-Academic team and has had the highest grade point average in the country. The athletes continue to compete in the Montana Women’s Run after graduation, often running with children of their own. The Billings Family YMCA provides health and fitness oriented services and programs to families throughout the Billings community, such as swimming lessons, fitness programs and adult and youth sports, regardless of the ability to pay. The YMCA also plans and provides volunteers for the Post Race Celebration held after the Montana Women’s Run and supplies volunteers for the Kids’ Run. Montana Women’s Run began in 1982 with 200 registrants and celebrated this year with 8,090 women participating. Today, the race is recognized as the largest running event for women in the state of Montana, and one of the largest allwomen’s races in the country. The major sponsors of the 2016 Montana Women’s Run were Billings Clinic, ExxonMobil, First Interstate Bank, Graphic Imprints, The Planet 106.7 and KTVQ. Next year’s race will be held on May 13, 2017.

HOLIDAY PARADE Friday, November 25, 2016 The Holiday Parade is a long-time tradition for the Billings community to usher in the holiday season on the Friday after Thanksgiving. With families gathered for the weekend to eat and shop, the Holiday Parade is a great way to celebrate the season by joining the community to see over 100 floats decorated for the holiday theme with Santa riding as the parade finale. Taking place in conjunction with the Christmas Stroll, the streets are filled with lights, holiday music, laughter, the scent of hot chocolate and Christmas trees. Children gather for photos with Santa and parents enjoy eggnog, drinks, and refreshments

Father Christmas Coming to Barjon’s Fridays: November 25 and December 2 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturdays: December 10th and 17th from 1-2:30 p.m. Having a photo taken with Santa is a modern tradition, but how about something really special?

that in the bitter cold of winter, as the days get shorter and the nights grow longer, the Sun is “reborn” at the Solstice to ring in a New Year!

This Winter Solstice season, Old Father Christmas will be visiting Barjon’s books in Billings and allowing his venerable self to be photographed with you, your family and friends! Come and meet an icon of ancient origin for a photo that will be sure to bring glad tidings of great joy to you and the wee ones in your family!

Come reconnect to a bit of the history that brought us to the fun and frolic of Christmas today!

While Santa’s origins are connected to this elder Father Christmas, the contemporary Santa Claus we all know so well was introduced to us in a 1930s Coca-Cola Advertising campaign! (Why do you think he’s dressed in red and white?!) Many Christmas traditions arose originally in Europe and were woven together to bring us our contemporary Christmas: the Christmas tree, wreaths, and Old Father Christmas himself. Each serve to remind us

The cost for each photo is a $3 - $10 donation to the local non-profit educational organization MusEco Media and Education Project ( www.MusEco.org .) Father Christmas will be at Barjon’s on Friday evenings, November 25 and December 2; and Saturday afternoons, 1 – 2:30pm. Stay tuned for information about an Old Father Christmas Mediaeval Solstice Costume Party featuring period music and a presentation on the origins of Santa Claus given by Father Christmas himself! THE BILLINGS SYMPHONY PROUDLY CONTINUES THE GRAND TRADITION OF

THE NUTCRACKER

The Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale (BSO&C) presents The Nutcracker in three performances: Saturday, November 26 at 2 pm and 7 pm, and Sunday, November 27 at 2 pm. The Nutcracker is performed by the San Diego Ballet under the artistic direction of Robin Morgan. Returning guest conductor Ming Luke along with more than 100 local child singers and dancers, take the stage for this charming Thanksgiving weekend tradition. With its signature theatrics and beloved choreography, the San Diego ballet delivers a light-hearted interpretation of this holiday classic that is expressive and dramatic. Principal dancers are seasoned professionals who bring strong brilliant technique, expressive artistry and high energy to this well-loved ballet. Audiences easily connect with their inspired performances to Peter Tchaikovsky’s beloved score performed live by the Billings Symphony Orchestra in the pit below the stage. Roles such as the Sugar Babes, Candy Canes, Gingersnaps, and the Boys & Girls Party Scene will be filled by local dancers under the direction of Betty Loos and Julia Marble of the Montana Dance Center. Gracie Day and Mady Hust will dance the role of Clara. Cass Sutton and Kai Sutton will dance as Fritz. In addition to local dancers cast in the ballet, vibrant young vocalists with the ROCK Children’s Choir under the direction of Janie Sutton will sing during the snow scene. Families will delight in the classic version of this Billings Thanksgiving weekend tradition of more than 30 years. “Must –see” simply doesn’t capture the live music, high energy of the talented cast, and special stage effects. This annual event would not be possible without the generous support of Stockman Bank and guest artist sponsor Underrinner Motors. The Nutcracker is also supported with funds from the Montana Cultural Trust, the Montana Arts Council, and the

National Endowment for the Arts. The Billings Symphony’s 2016-2017 season is presented by the Oakland Companies. Conductor Ming Luke is rapidly establishing himself as an exciting and versatile conductor to watch. The Napa Valley Register said that his conducting had “his audience as much in his thrall as his musicians.” Also the Music Director of the Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra, a well-regarded institution in Berkeley, he is only the third Music Director in 45 years. Ming Luke holds a Master of Fine Arts in Conducting from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Piano Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College of Rider University.

National publication affirms what adult learners across the region already know “Washington Monthly” College Rankings recently ranked MSUB 15th for Best Four-Year Colleges for Adult Learners in 2016. Criteria for the rankings included ease of transfer, flexibility of programs, services for adult students, tuition and fees, students over the age of 25, adult student’s median earnings rank and loan repayment ran. “For decades, MSUB has be renowned across Montana for our ability to help adult learners attain an affordable and valuable education, while balancing family-life,” commented Chancellor Mark Nook. “This affirmation of excellence on a national-level is something each faculty and staff member at MSUB should be proud of.” Sophomore Jessica Kannegiesser exemplifies an adult learner thriving at MSUB. Kannegiesser, 32, is majoring in business management and marketing. She has overcome a lot to study at MSUB and is

forging a brighter path for herself, and she says, “more importantly, my son.” The bright-eyed single parent describes how life unraveled after she graduated from Billings Senior High in 2002. “I went to cosmetology school but after a boyfriend moved away, my life kind of fell apart and I struggled with addiction for a few years,” Kannegiesser said. Five years ago, she changed her lifestyle. “When I found out I was pregnant with my son I shaped up,” she said. Continuing her personal and professional growth included a desire to obtain more education. “I kept hearing radio ads for MSUB and one day I just drove here,” she said. “That decision was one of the best I’ve made and I started school in January of 2015.” Today, she’s an active, albeit non-traditional, face on campus.

In addition to serving on the College of Business student advisory board, Kannegiesser is also the coordinator for the newly formed MSUB Junior Jackets program through the Student Union. Junior Jackets is designed to promote free and low-cost family-friendly events sponsored by student organizations, departments and the university. Being involved and mentored by other faculty with the program has helped Kannegiesser succeed academically, she said. “Being involved with Junior Jackets has literally been a lifesaver,” Kannegiesser said. “It’s pushed me into a leadership role and I’m involved in something that’s important to me: providing space for students where they can bring their kiddos to campus.” MSUB is in good company on the “Washington Monthly” guide. Other four-year colleges on the top of the list include topped-ranked Golden Gate University-San Francisco and the University of Utah (#2). Neighboring University of Wyoming received a #16 ranking.

Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument

Courtesy of www.visitmt.com Located in southeastern Montana, Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument memorializes the site of the Battle of the Little Bighorn which took place on June 25-26, 1876 between the United States Seventh Cavalry Regiment led by Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer, and the Sioux and Cheyenne under the political and spiritual leadership of Sitting Bull. The Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument was originally named Custer Battlefield National Monument. President George H.W. Bush renamed the site on December 10, 1991. It is now representative of those who were in the battle, Native Americans and the 7th Cavalry. A visitor center and museum contains exhibits relating to the 1876 Battle of Little Bighorn in which a total of 263 US Cavalrymen, of the regiments 650 men, were

killed in action by Sioux and Northern Cheyenne warriors. Lieutenant Colonel G.A. Custer was killed leading a contingent of 209 men. The Museum features exhibits of the history of the battle, Custer, weapons, archaeology, Plains Indian life, and a walking tour with interpretive markers. It is wheelchair accessible. Adjoining the visitor center is Custer National Cemetery, which includes interments from abandoned frontier military posts, the world wars, Korea and Vietnam. A 4.5 mile self-guiding tour road connects two separate battlefields, the Custer Battlefield and the RenoBenteen Battlefield. Handicapped parking is located at these two locations and at the visitor center. Ranger programs are scheduled throughout the summer, and bus tours of the battlefield operate from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. During the off-season a

17-minute documentary film is shown at the visitor center. Additional information can be found at the the Friends of the Little

Bighorn Battlefield’s website, www. friendslittlebighorn.com.

Hidden western treasures at the Yellowstone County Museum A hidden treasure western history enthusiasts will delight in discovering, the Yellowstone County Museum has exhibits dedicated to ranch life, homesteading, antique firearms, and one of the largest collections of American Indian artifacts in the region. Charting the New Frontier New as of 2014 is “Charting The New Frontier: An Exhibit of Mapping and Surveying the Yellowstone Valley.” In this exhibit history buffs will find a timeline of maps that date from 1778 to 1927 detailing railroad development, mining, fur trade, settlement and exploration. The maps are printed in a high quality, fine art form by Kim Lugthart of Artful History Reproductions in Missoula, MT. The original maps are on loan from William Cole of Cole Law Firm in Billings. Visitors will also find antique surveying equipment with descriptions on loan from Selby’s in Billings. Cattle Drives of Yesteryear A J.K. Ralston original painting, spanning the breadth of the room, is displayed above the Yellowstone County Museum’s (YCM) authentic chuckwagon exhibit. It is a trueto-life depiction of the valley’s first settlers and the gear they brought west. Short-horned beef cattle were trailed into the Yellowstone

River valley from Idaho and Oregon by Charles Yegen in 1879. Beef cattle production became a linchpin industry in Montana Territory once rail service to Billings opened access to eastern markets. The pilot wagon had to be driven by a seasoned guide, often old trappers, explorers, and men who had been in country and knew the trails. Behind the guide came the chuckwagon, driven by the cook. The cook worked out of a converted freight wagon built to house supplies and kitchen tools. Behind the chuckwagon was the bed wagon, piled high with quilts and treated canvas, the forerunners of today’s camping gear. Then came the bawling, tail-twitching mass driven by outriders. A cattle drive could cover about 5 miles per day. Native American Collection Yellowstone County Museum is the kind of museum that tells the stories of the people and places, tools, art, and triumphs and heartache of the early residents, both Native American and settlers, who populated the Yellowstone Valley. The displays are considered some of best of its kind in the state. The museum enjoys expansive space around the building. The patio affords a spectacular view of the Yellowstone Valley. The museum gift shop is full

of Native American reproductions and books of Yellowstone Valley topics. The Yellowstone County Museum is located in the historic McCormick log cabin at 1950 Terminal Circle. Follow the

roundabout through the airport and loop around. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Learn more at ycmhistory.org or call 406-256`6811. Free admission.
