Matters Arising Wendover Parish Council Page

View from the Chair

As I write this Wendover is bustling as people enjoy a late warm spell. The pavement cafés that are now a feature of the village are bursting with life and I hope it is helping the businesses that surround them as they strive to recover from the lockdown period. The Parish Council is very aware of the disturbance that is caused by high speed and high volume motors racing along our bypass. I have in the past attended meetings with our County Councillors and the Deputy Police Commissioner for Thames Valley in an attempt to fix this problem but our efforts have trickled away as these things do. The WPC has resolved to set up a community led working group to look at all of the options and to bring pressure to bear on those with the power to improve the situation for residents. If you’re interested in joining us for this project please contact the Clerk. See also page 15. One of the results of the WPC’s experience working with the Wardens during lockdown is that we have discovered that while care and support is available it is a fragmented resource. Help is available from many sources and for many things but it’s not clear how it can be accessed. WPC has resolved to work with the community to see if a way can be found to simplify the process. If you’re interested in joining us for this project please contact the Clerk. Tom Walsh, Chairman Wendover Parish Council www.facebook.com/wendoverparish/

Fruit and veg stall return to the Thursday market

offered rent-free space on Manor Waste, with Rumsey’s and No.2 taking up the offer.

Wendover Parish Council are pleased to confirm that the Fruit and Veg stall, Sinfield’s, returned to the weekly Thursday market, held on Manor Waste, on 10 September 2020. We, along with many residents, are happy to have them back.

The continental café culture has been well received by the community. Regulars visiting Rumsey’s and No.2 are now joined by visitors from outside the village, all enjoying the delightful atmosphere created by this initiative. The Clerk is now consulting with both businesses to examine the feasibility of this becoming a permanent feature in the village.

The decision by Buckinghamshire Council to renew pavement licencing impacted for a short time on Istanbul, Tres Corazones and No.2. The action contradicted the Parish Council plans to support the local hospitality businesses and upset many of their regular customers.

Due to the unprecedented times, Wendover Parish have sadly had to cancel the Annual Quiz event. However, we could not let you go without one at all! Our brilliant quiz master, Alan Myers, will provide a quiz round every Thursday from 8 October to 26 November, with a break for half term on 29 October. The quiz rounds will be made available each week on the Wendover Parish Council website and Facebook page. Hard copies will also be made available at the Clock Tower and Library. The answers to each round will be posted the following week. There will be no prizes, just a lot of fun! We look forward to as many of you joining as possible.
