New Walnuts in Walnut Tree Meadow

Volunteers from Climate Action Wendover have planted 12 walnut saplings alongside a small copse of “whips” in Walnut Tree Meadow.

We are grateful to all the volunteers who have helped us with tree planting over this winter season, the total planted to date exceeds 3000! And we really appreciate the financial support and encouragement of the Woodland Trust and Wendover Parish Council to create the first piece of the Queens Green Canopy in Wendover, marking Her Majesty’s platinum jubilee!

Energy Project aims to save Thousands

Funded by a grant from the Rural Community Energy Fund, Buckinghamshire Community Energy is working with consultants ReEnergise to carry out a feasibility study to see whether it is possible to take John Colet School, John Hampden School, Wendover Junior School, Wendover Swimming Pool, Wendover Youth Centre and Wendover Memorial Hall off gas and use alternative renewable energy sources such as a ground source heat pump to provide heating and hot water. The study will also investigate the possibility of installing solar panels on as many buildings on the Wharf Road Campus as possible.

Chilterns MS Centre Pop-Up Art Weekend

Almost 1,500 people attended the exhibition which featured 90 different painters, jewellers, potters, and ceramists displaying almost 750 pieces of art. Afterwards visitors could relax with a slice of one of the many delicious homemade cakes that had been donated.

In total the charity raised over £16,000 which will be used to support people living with multiple sclerosis. To find out more about the work the Chilterns MS Centre does for people affected by MS, visit chilternsmscentre.org.

St David's Day Thanks

Diolch yn fawr - thank you very much - for noting on the front page of your March 2022 issue of Wendover News the fact that 1 March is St David's Day. It does surprise me, especially in the younger generation, how many are ignorant about our four saints days of the year. It was something drummed in to us back in my schools days - admittedly a long time ago - but as these saints have been revered for centuries why should children not still be told about them today?

Funding for Wendover Community Library

A grant of £310,000 has been received to help develop the Library into an inclusive, multi-use community centre. Additional funding of £120,000 has been agreed with Buckinghamshire Council and, together with a number of smaller grants and contributions, the total amount available to support the project will be around £500,000. A detailed project plan and timeline is already being discussed, with the launch of the new community library expected in the summer of 2023.

Commemorative Tree

In February, the Wendover Evening WI planted a cherry tree on the Witchell to commemorate their 50th anniversary.
