Wendover Choral Society Spring Concert 2022

Wendover Choral Society and the Oxford Sinfonia Spring Concert, St Mary’s Church, Wendover at 7.30pm on 21 May

Beethoven’s Mass in C is the main focus of Wendover Choral Society’s spring concert on 21 May. Originally, to mark the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, in 2020, it was to have been part of a more ambitious all-Beethoven programme. Instead, this year, it is presented in all its emotive glory, juxtaposed with Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 and hauntingly beautiful motets in praise of the Virgin Mary from the Renaissance to more recent times. Those who attended the choir’s Christmas Concert of the cautiously selected and relatively straightforward but exquisite Requiem by Fauré would have heard the choir in good voice after a prolonged enforced silence. This spring’s more ambitious programme has been conceived for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year by the choir’s musical director, Peter Bassano, who will conduct the choir, the Oxford Sinfonia and four brilliant young soloists from the Royal Academy of Music in what promises to be a most exciting evening and which hopefully marks a full return to normality.

Tickets available from Just, 11 High Street, Wendover and wendoverchoralsociety@ gmail.com £17.50 Adults, £5.00 Under 18s, FREE.
