Happy Easter 2022

As we emerge from the strangest two years of many of our lives, we are really hoping that there will be some normality in our celebrations of Easter in 2022 - our doors were shut in 2020, some were able to go to church in 2021, but with much hesitancy so let’s hope this year we can enter into this most wonderful festival with a real sense of joy.

We will do so however with the knowledge that war is raging in Ukraine with many losing their lives and homes, with fire blazing in the beautiful towns and cities of that country. We are filled with bewilderment and perhaps fear; we’re uncertain of how things will develop and looking for ways in which we can make things better for those who are fleeing. Once again human nature means that supplies have gone from many places to help those displaced and injured, donations made, and homes opened to welcome those who have lost theirs.

Our world looks bleak but all around us good news stories are there alongside the coming of spring and the new life around us. Jesus came that we would have life in abundance (John 10:10) and know his love for each one of us. His death on the cross on Good Friday was totally devastating for his friends and followers and they thought that their world had come to an end but three days later he rose from the dead and saw that new life is possible. New life is possible for each of us in which we can know God’s forgiveness and joy; new life, we pray, for the country of Ukraine and peace in our world; new life that brings love and joy to each one of us. That was God’s promise when he sent his son Jesus as a baby to live among us and then allowed him to die on the cross.

May you know that peace and joy this Easter time.
