With Spring in the air at Lindengate, new life is appearing across our 6 acre gardens on a daily basis. Our team, volunteers and programme participants have been busy weeding & planting across the whole site, in preparation for the Summer months.

While Lindengate is perhaps best known for its wellbeing services locally and regionally, our community-fuelled conservation programmes have national reach, supporting the reintroduction of endangered native species into biodiverse landscapes nationwide. In the 7 years since opening, the gardens have been nurtured and transformed into what is now a habitat-rich biodiverse environment showcasing many of our native species. It is self-sustaining, providing educational opportunities and sufficient stock for us to propagate to the benefit of the wider community. Our team of staff and expert volunteers can offer advice to those looking to rewild their spaces.

Most notable is that Lindengate is home to the largest clone bank of Black Poplar trees in the UK and is renowned as the leading expert. We were recently honoured by a request from the Greater London Lieutenancy to supply a Black Poplar and attend its ceremonial planting in Regent’s Park in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee (photo below).

Since opening, we have worked on significant projects with the Butterfly Conservation, Wildlife Trusts & RSPB growing Devils Bit Scabious, the sole food source of the Marsh Fritillary Butterfly, earning us extensive media coverage, but also recognition through our achievement of multiple National and Regional Awards for conservation initiatives.
