New Singers Welcome!

Calling All Singers…. Wendover Choral Society needs YOU!

Wendover Choral Society looks forward to welcoming new singers. The choir is enthusiastic and offers a warm welcome to new members. Covid restrictions have not dimmed the passion of Wendover Choral Society singers who have met and performed since autumn 2021, in nearnormal circumstances. It has been a great joy for everyone to be able to sing to a live audience once more. This December they will be performing Handel’s Messiah.

What makes every concert so special are the performances of young Royal Academy of Music soloists who are all up-and-coming opera singers. Over the years, audiences have been blown away by many amazing voices. As a result, this modest mixed-ability choir is lifted out of the ordinary and the atmosphere is transformed. Recent singers include Camilla Harris, who performed last Christmas and is now singing in Così Fan

Tutte at Garsington. Also, internationally acclaimed Nika Goric and Pumeza Matshikiza, a Decca soloist, described as ‘one of today’s most exciting new operatic voices’, sang here, as did Christina Gansch, in 2014. A winner of the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Competition, she now sings with San Francisco Opera. The choir is proud of its role in supporting such talented musicians.

The Messiah, on 3 December, will also feature a professional Baroque ensemble from the Royal Academy. It promises to be an exciting evening. If you would like to be part of this, please come along to St Mary’s Church on Thursday, 8 September at 7.45pm and try us out. Rehearsals begin with a warm-up at 7.45pm and last two hours, with an all-important break midway for refreshments and chat. No audition is required, although some musical knowledge is definitely very helpful.
