WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
Dear Families and Friends of Wesleyan Christian Academy,
It is with heartfelt gratitude that I present to you our 2023-2024 Annual Report.
As you read through the following pages, I trust you will be inspired by God’s abundant grace towards Wesleyan Christian Academy and the remarkable blessings He has bestowed on our students, staff, and families.
The Lord has granted us the incredible responsibility and privilege of nurturing and equipping our young men and women to become faithful servants of Christ for God’s glory. They are being equipped and molded through Christ-centered academic and extracurricular programs. Our teachers, coaches, and staff are not only highly skilled, but also possess a deep passion for guiding and caring for each student. Their work fosters spiritual growth, instills a love for Christ, and teaches students to apply Biblical principles to every aspect of life.
Our theme in middle and high school chapel this year was “Blessed are the Merciful” as our Spiritual Life Director, Mr. Quintin Ayers, taught our students many of the bedrock principles from the Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew, chapters 5-7. In doing so, our students learned what human life and human community look like when they come under the gracious rule of God. This is just one example of the many gospel seeds that have been sown this year, and it is my prayer that the Lord will use them all to draw our students closer to Him so that their faith and their love for Jesus will continue to grow.
As we embark on a new school year, let us take a moment to offer thanks to God for His continued blessings upon Wesleyan Christian Academy and rejoice in the many ways He is actively transforming the lives of our students, allowing them to articulate and demonstrate their faith in thought, word, and deed.
Sincerely,
David Ray, Ed.D. Head of School

The 2023-2024 Alumnus of the Year award honors the legacy of Wesleyan graduate Lee Tandy Rickman. His family accepted the award at this year’s Homecoming Game. A Wesleyan student from kindergarten through his 2008 graduation, Lee embodied Wesleyan’s mission to "Know and Live the Truth." After earning his degree, Lee returned to WCA in 2014, as an interim 6th-grade English teacher and soccer coach, quickly becoming a cherished mentor to our students. Although the Lord called Lee home before we were ready here on earth, Lee’s legacy of service and faith continues through the Lee’s Legacy Alumni Scholarship Fund, created by his family. The Alumni Board presented a $1,500 gift to support the fund and honor Lee’s lasting impact.
Caylin Prillaman, a 2015 Wesleyan graduate, earned a B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Interior Architecture from UNCG, along with a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Workplace Wellness. Now an Interior Designer at Cline Design Associates in Charlotte, NC, Caylin recently returned to Wesleyan to inspire Ms. Vickie Luther's high school art students, reminding them of God's unique path for each person. Reflecting on her journey at WCA, Caylin shared, "My teachers at Wesleyan awarded me the Christian Character Trait of enthusiasm every year of elementary and taught me that God created each of us with unique talents to glorify Him. Today, I use my enthusiasm to encourage and uplift others in good times and bad."

FISCAL YEAR: JUNE 1, 2023 - MAY 31, 2024
REVENUE
Wesleyan Christian Academy's Annual Gift Giving (AGG) Campaign for 2023 was a remarkable success, embodying the spirit of community and generosity. Running from October 13 to November 10, the campaign included a series of engaging events aimed at raising funds and fostering fellowship within the Wesleyan community.
The campaign started with our annual AGG Opening Assembly, themed "I ♥ Wesleyan." Joel Steindel hosted an exciting event featuring a very special appearance from our very own “Cash Cow,” who distributed cash prizes to staff and students through a trivia contest. DJ Rockin' Randy provided energetic music, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Throughout the campaign, elementary students participated in weekly "quarter wars," with each classroom competing to collect the most change. One of the campaign's highlights was an Online Auction, held from November 2 to November 5, which featured unique Wesleyan Experiences. These included student opportunities such as School Nurse for the day, Principal for the day, Bat Boy for the varsity boys' baseball team, and golf outings with our Assistant Principals. These experiences provided a unique blend of fun and mentorship, creating lasting memories for our teachers and students.
The campaign culminated in the AGG Appreciation Golf Tournament on April 30, 2024, at Colonial Country Club in Thomasville. Over 130 golfers joined the event, celebrating donor generosity and Wesleyan’s dedication to preparing future Christian leaders. This tournament was a fitting conclusion, highlighting the community's dedication and support.
The campaign's goal was $350,000, but thanks to the incredible support of the Wesleyan community, an impressive $416,623.98 was raised. This outstanding achievement underscores the collective effort and dedication of everyone involved in making the AGG Campaign a success.
At Wesleyan Christian Academy, our mission is to "partner with parents by providing a Biblically-based, college-preparatory education so that students will be equipped to serve Christ and influence the world around them." This partnership is crucial for the spiritual growth and academic success of our students. One such remarkable partnership is with the Fredrickson family.
Sheldon and Catie Fredrickson enrolled their two boys, Banks (PreK-4) and Ford (PreK-3), into the Early Education Center (EEC) at Wesleyan Christian Academy four years ago. Since then, they have exemplified true partnership with our institution. EEC Director Amy McNeill noted that the Fredrickson family has been an integral part of Wesleyan, consistently collaborating with teachers and supporting the entire Early Ed program. "They support their sons' teachers by always helping with classroom needs, working with them to grow their children, and trusting them to care for their sons," McNeill shared. The Fredricksons actively participate in events and maintain open communication about all matters concerning their children.
It is heartwarming to see both parents showing up for drop-off and pick-up, demonstrating their commitment to their sons' education and well-being. The Fredricksons' love for Wesleyan is evident, and we are grateful to have them as part of our Early Ed family.
The Fredricksons moved to the High Point area in 2021 and were drawn to Wesleyan when searching for a program for their oldest son, Banks. Catie shared, "We were seeking a faith-based learning environment where our children would begin not only their educational journey but also their spiritual journey with God. After touring Wesleyan, we felt a sense of peace knowing that their program had all those attributes and more."
The positive influence of Wesleyan on Banks and Ford is undeniable. "The day-to-day activities such as praying before meals, teaching them Biblical stories and Bible verses, and attending chapel are things our boys can't wait to tell us about after their day," Catie continued. "We see them excited to talk about God and experience fellowship with their peers. As parents, we appreciate how Wesleyan Christian Academy continues to cultivate their spiritual journey on campus."
The Fredrickson family's active participation, trust, and love for Wesleyan Christian Academy embodies the true spirit of partnership that our mission strives to achieve. We are blessed to have them in our Wesleyan family.
The 2023-2024 school year saw the retirement of four beloved faculty members from Wesleyan Christian Academy: Mr. Tim Kohns (31 years), Mrs. Linda Kohns (30 years), Mrs. Beth West (23 years) and Mr. John Losey (35 years). Together, they contributed over 119 years to the school. Additionally, Mrs. Debbie Eller, a teacher in our Early Education Center, has remarkably served for 52 years, almost the entire duration of the academy's 53-year history. Each of these employees is a source of inspiration, exemplifying dedication and commitment.
Many staff members have devoted much of their lives to WCA. Notable long-term employees include...
Linda
Becky
The enduring loyalty and commitment of these educators and staff members reflect a deep love for students and learning, forming the foundation of WCA’s success. As the school concludes its 53rd year and looks forward to the 54th, the community celebrates and thanks God for their unwavering dedication.
The 2023-2024 school year has been a year of remarkable achievements and meaningful growth at Wesleyan Christian Academy's Early Education Center (EEC). We are thrilled to highlight our top three successes, new initiatives, and the notable development of our students.
This year, we successfully launched our planned expansion of the half-day preschool program to Conrad Baptist Church, providing more space and opportunities for our little learners. We also introduced an Easter Chapel to our programming line-up, allowing our children to learn about and celebrate Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and His gift to us of forgiveness and eternal life. With solid enrollment numbers reaching more than 247 students, it’s clear that our program is resonating with families in our community.
A significant addition to our curriculum was the introduction of the Orange Bible curriculum, which aligned Bible lessons across all Pre-K classes. Our teachers have praised its ease of use, and we’ve seen a positive impact on how our children obtain and remember the information with daily lessons and reinforcement during weekly chapels.
Professional development has also been a priority. EEC Director Amy McNeill and Associate Director Casey Fowler attended an ACSI Early Education Event in Orlando, bringing back valuable insights to enhance our academic program. Additionally, our teachers participated in a virtual training on managing behavioral issues in early education, equipping them with strategies to better support our students.
We eagerly anticipate building on these successes and continuing to provide enriching and faith-filled experiences for our students.
One of the most meaningful moments this year was our Pre-K4 Christmas program. Watching our little ones tell the story of Jesus’ birth, followed by fellowship with families, was truly heartwarming. It’s been a year of incredible growth, and we’re excited to see what the future holds for our students!
The 2023-2024 school year at Wesleyan Christian Academy was a year of outstanding academic and personal growth for our elementary students, from TK through fourth grade. Since the introduction of the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment two years ago, our students have shown significant improvements in both reading comprehension and fluency, as well as impressive gains in math.
This year was also filled with over 25 diverse events and activities that enriched our students' experiences. From Grandparents’ Honor Day and Books and Breakfast to the Veterans’ Honor Day, Missions Fair, Science Fair, Arts Impact Day, and the Elementary Spring Musical, our students engaged in various meaningful activities. Additionally, service projects like Operation Christmas Child and Flight of Honor allowed our students to give back to the community.
Our "Back to the Basics" spiritual life theme successfully reinforced foundational Biblical knowledge, with nearly all elementary students now able to confidently identify all 66 books of the Bible. The new Deep Roots Bible Curriculum further supported their spiritual development, equipping them with the tools to nurture their faith in today’s world.
An exciting enhancement this year was the shift in our fourth-grade classes from a departmentalized to an integrated, self-contained classroom structure. This change has fostered stronger teacher-student connections and more effective use of classroom time.
We eagerly anticipate building on these successes and continuing to provide enriching and faith-filled experiences for our students.
Wesleyan Christian Academy's middle school program has witnessed remarkable academic and personal growth over the past year, marked by significant achievements, new initiatives, and deepening connections within the community. One of the standout moments was the 8th Grade Merriwood Retreat, which not only served as a bonding experience but also empowered students to take on leadership roles, setting a positive tone for the entire middle school.
A key highlight of the year was the revival of the Junior Beta Club, which celebrated the academic excellence of many students. This initiative, alongside a more active middle school leadership team, fostered a culture of recognition and responsibility. The leadership team took the reins, organizing a meaningful joint mission project for Church Under the Bridge, where students collected and packed care packages for the homeless, dedicating their time and effort to serving others.
The middle school also saw advancements in academic development, with teachers integrating critical thinking activities into daily lessons. This focus on enhancing students' analytical skills reflects the school's commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals prepared for future honors and Advanced Placement (AP) classes in high school and college.
Throughout the year, Wesleyan celebrated the dedication of long-serving staff members, such as Mrs. Linda Kohns (6th grade Math and Science teacher) and Ms. Wilma (middle school cleaning staff), whose decades of service exemplify the school’s values of faithfulness and commitment. The school community also rallied to support families facing personal tragedies, strengthening the bond between school and family.
The growth of the middle school students, particularly those in leadership roles, has been profound. Their willingness to actively contribute to their peers' development and take on new responsibilities has been a testament to their maturity and the nurturing environment at Wesleyan Christian Academy.
Outstanding achievements and growth marked the 20232024 school year at Wesleyan Christian Academy among our high school students. The senior class of 91 graduates achieved remarkable success, with all of them gaining admission to 74 different colleges and universities. Impressively, 86% of these graduates chose to attend a fouryear institution. Collectively, the senior class of 2024 earned an astounding $6,284,552.00 in merit-based scholarships, awarded through 160 different scholarships.
Academic excellence was a consistent theme throughout the high school. A total of 35 students in grades 9-12 received the prestigious President’s Award for Educational Excellence, a testament to their hard work and dedication. The honor roll was also filled with high achievers, with 231 students earning this distinction. Specifically, 65 freshmen, 44 sophomores, 56 juniors, and 66 seniors made the honor roll, demonstrating strong academic performance across all grade levels.
Athletically, our students excelled as well. A total of 174 students were recognized as ScholarAthletes, balancing rigorous academic schedules with their athletic commitments. This includes 38 freshmen, 38 sophomores, 58 juniors, and 40 seniors, highlighting the dedication and time management skills of our student-athletes.
These accomplishments reflect Wesleyan Christian Academy's commitment to fostering academic and personal growth and preparing students for success beyond high school.
The 2023-2024 school year at Wesleyan Christian Academy’s Enrichment Center was a year of notable growth and accomplishments for our students with learning differences. We worked closely with students who have documented diagnoses and their parents, ensuring that they fully understood their accommodations and how to utilize them effectively. This collaborative approach has empowered students to take ownership of their learning.
In addition to personalized support, we introduced an advising class for high school students, focusing on life after high school, grade monitoring, and homework completion. To further prepare students for the future, all high school students took a career interest inventory test, sparking meaningful conversations about college and career paths with students and parents.
This year, we also implemented iReady to address gaps in math and reading while teaching grade-level content. Our staff participated in professional development on iReady, as well as on "Learning to Read in a Digital World," equipping them with best practices to support students in a rapidly changing educational landscape.
Beyond academics, we celebrated the diverse talents and accomplishments of our students in baseball, track, soccer, wrestling, golf, drama, and band.
These achievements reflect the holistic growth of our students, who continue to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Throughout the 2023-2024 school year, Wesleyan’s campus life was a vibrant center of fellowship, deeply anchored in God’s word and filled with purpose. This spirit shone through in the friendships students formed, the communities they served, and the events they embraced.
Our campus thrived with traditions like Homecoming, where students donned Hawaiian attire, and enjoyed the lively Red & Gold parade. The
Early Education division celebrated Community Helpers Week, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day picnics, and a joyful Easter event. Elementary students honored veterans, cherished grandparents, and brought storybooks and Palm Sunday to life during two different parades. Middle schoolers enjoyed the 8th-grade Merriwood Retreat, Career Day, academic field trips, and the reinstated Junior Beta Club for top students. High school buzzed with activities like the senior picnic, arts showcases, athletic events, the annual high school musical, Spiritual Emphasis Week, High IQ Bowl, and the Junior/Senior Prom.
No matter the year, Wesleyan remains committed to honoring God and fostering love within our community.
Wesleyan Christian Academy's production of Fiddler on the Roof was a stunning showcase of student talent. With a cast of 37, including junior Henry Henning as Tevye, senior Tobie Helms as the ghost of Grandma Tzeitel, and senior Erin Finan as The Fiddler, the performances captivated audiences. Supported by a production crew of 46 students and adults, along with a 21-piece live orchestra, the show ran from February 22 to 25. Each of the four performances was a resounding success, leaving audiences thoroughly impressed and eagerly anticipating more. The dedication and talent of everyone involved made this production unforgettable.

The 2023-2024 school year was remarkable for Wesleyan Christian Academy's Trojan athletes. The boys' soccer and baseball teams, both nationally ranked, reached the 4A NCISAA state championships, showcasing their dedication and skill. Additionally, the Trojans claimed Piedmont Triad Athletic Conference titles in boys' soccer, volleyball, wrestling, and baseball.
Individually, sixteen WCA athletes earned NCISAA All-State recognition, a testament to their hard work and talent. Beyond the field, a schoolwide initiative encouraged athletic teams to participate in community service, with most teams completing at least one project, aiming for 100% participation across varsity, JV, and middle school teams.
This year also saw the piloting of an Athlete Code of Conduct rooted in Biblical values, which will be fully implemented next year. Our coaching staff's emphasis on Christlike behavior and character growth has positively impacted both on-field performance and classroom conduct, reflecting our athletes' genuine care for competing for God's glory and WCA.
