FROM THE BOARD
Dear Wesleyan Family and Friends,
I want to take this moment to greet you and thank you all, on behalf of my fellow board members, for your continued support of WCA.
For the second school year in a row, WCA has been impacted by the dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike the previous school year, where the unforeseen changes hit us all amidst an ongoing school year, we fortunately had time to plan and strategize going into the 2020-2021 year.
Throughout the spring and summer of 2020 the Board made significant decisions regarding purchases of equipment, supplies, and services that would hopefully prepare us for a full school year navigating COVID-19. While serious and thoughtful deliberation went into those decisions, the reality is that Dr. Brown, his administrative leadership team, and many members of the faculty and staff provided the most critical input that allowed us to make informed decisions. It required a great deal of foresight, research into best practices on an issue that was still unfolding, and a great deal of strategic planning and decision-making. I can’t say enough about the leadership team of WCA and all they did to lead through the 2020-2021 school year.
I want to specifically commend our faculty. They have been the “boots on the ground” ensuring that your children were still learning in the best environment that could be provided in challenging circumstances. Based on observations over my years of association with WCA, I believe there are key foundational issues that drive much of their attitudes of commitment. I believe they are first and foremost committed to knowing and following Christ in their own lives. I believe that Christ has also given them a love for your children and a compelling desire to see them grow to know and live the truth.
MISSION STATEMENT
To partner with families by providing a biblically-based, college-preparatory education so that students will be equipped to serve Christ and influence the world.
Non-Discrimination Policy
Wesleyan Education Center admits children or students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate in the administration of its personnel or educational policies, admission policies, financial aid, athletic activities, or other school administered programs.
I also want to commend our parents. You obviously have a love for your children that cannot be adequately quantified. You are making major investments in their lives. Your desire to see them become the best young men and women they can be is beyond admirable. The fact that you trust the WCA leadership, faculty, and staff to partner with you on that journey will never be taken for granted.
We will continue to take our responsibility, and the trust you have placed in us, very seriously. Please join us in praying for the ministry of WCA on a regular basis. We believe God’s wisdom and guidance is of utmost importance as we navigate each day.
God bless you all as we continue to partner together for the benefit of your children!
John Vernon Chairman, Wesleyan Christian Academy Board of DirectorsAN UPDATE FROM
THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
DEAR WESLEYAN FAMILY AND FRIENDS,
In my 12 years as the Head of School at Wesleyan Christian Academy, this one by far stands out as being a year of significant strides in faith, depth and level of trust throughout the entire Wesleyan community.
As the School Board and Administration followed the Lord’s lead and committed to open the doors on August 18 to our awesome 1,200 students, though staff and faculty had worked very hard to prepare, no one knew exactly what this pandemic year had in store for us. But praise be to our good and faithful God who led us all along this journey.
Through His all-sufficient grace, he not only walked us through the wilderness, He cleared a broad path and did “immeasurably more than all we (could) ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 43:19). With patience, creativity and innovation, our students and faculty accomplished more than we ever dreamed possible this year. As it relates directly to our main pillars in our Strategic Plan, here are just a few praises and successes this year:
ACADEMIC
DISTINCTION
On May 28, 2020, Wesleyan completed a full year of on campus instruction and matriculated 92 seniors at One Church, formerly First Wesleyan Church, in High Point. With eased restrictions, hundreds of family and friends were able to join us to honor this group of young men and women who stood together and led us during a year of unprecedented challenges.
Despite many obstacles, the Class of 2021 was awarded $4.7 million in merit scholarships and 99 % of our graduates will be attending college in the fall, 13 of them as college athletes. As High School Principal Tim Rickman shared during graduation, “These 92 seniors took it upon themselves and led the student body at Wesleyan and have shown the world that with determination, with resolve, and with faith in God Himself, they can go with great memories, a world-class education and a love for each other that can last forever.” Amen!
No one worked harder to make this year a success than our faculty members, and our incredible nurse, Shannon Moore, who was later joined by Nurse and WCA parent Lesley Papciak, in January. With 95% of our full-time students on campus, these ladies made the health of our entire Wesleyan family their top priority. Thanks to their faithful and diligent work, and the tremendous support of our parents and faculty, the Academy doors stayed open from August to May.
Recognizing the unique challenges of this year, we moved quickly to add Google Chromebooks and impressive new streaming technology that enabled 50 K-12 students to engage in classes virtually.
As we seek to continually improve every facet of our programming, this year we added 39 new online Dual Enrollment (college credit) classes for high school students through Liberty University and Southern Wesleyan University. For our elementary and middle school students, our STEM program added a new, state of the art 3-D printer in 2020 that opened up even more opportunities for our students to explore and learn.
After working to make it possible for our Early Education Center to remain open every day since May 2020, Director Emily Orman and her faculty graduated 73 PreK-4 graduates via an in-person ceremony, complete with Preschool diplomas in their caps and gown.
This year, Wesleyan was very fortunate to receive the Association of Christian Schools International’s Exemplary Accreditation, a privilege granted to only 17 of it’s 2800 schools worldwide. This is a tremendous honor and achievement on the part of our staff and faculty, that will reap great benefits for our students as they seek admission into competitive universities.
In another first, our Fine Arts Department presented “Annie” in three live performances to a limited audience, while others were able to watch the performance, which was filmed and produced by Wesleyan staff and students, On-Demand through a third-party partner.
After many delays by the NCISAA, the majority of our sports teams were able to begin team sports in late fall and continued through spring. These athletes demonstrated grace, tenacity, and respect at the highest level throughout the year and we could not have been more proud of their efforts and positive attitudes.
STEWARDSHIP To bring a bit of the Wesleyan spirit to our hallways, we made several upgrades that our students and faculty have enjoyed. In the summer, we updated our student art gallery and news wall to give us an opportunity to feature a broader variety of work from our students. This spring saw state-of-the-art wall wraps installed in our elementary and admissions hallways featuring components of life on campus including academics, athletics, fine arts and spiritual life as well as a beautiful donor wall erected at the Sandy Ridge Campus.
This year’s Annual Gift Giving Campaign proved to be the most successful AGG Campaign in our history raising $351,773.65, affirming the campaign’s theme, “United in Adversity”. This year, the campaign added a Virtual Silent Auction that was a resounding success. Our families and corporate partners amazed us again this year, as did our students. First grader Emersyn Wilson was determined to do her part supporting the school by raising more than $1,100 by making and selling homemade cookies!
Ingenuity abounded on campus this year as our faculty and staff sought to make this year a great success in spite of the restrictions. Just one example of this was Media Center Specialist Emily Mack and her assistant Erin Bowman implementing Wesleyan’s first online Book Fair, supplemented by two after-school side-walk sales this spring. Their creativity enabled our parents to show up yet again to make the Spring Book Fair a record-setting one, raising $21,862.66. The money was used to revamp our Non Fiction section that was in dire need of an upgrade. We are still processing the many books we were able to purchase and are excited for the students to read these brand new books!
CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY As the fall semester unfolded, we knew that corporately holding to God’s word and focusing on flexibility, grace, and unity—in notable contrast to what we have witnessed in our polarized culture — was critical. Understanding this, the Administration and our new Spiritual Life Director Pastor Deon Parker implemented “Unity in Christ” as our spiritual life theme for the year.
In the spring, the Spiritual Life team crafted a powerful Spiritual Emphasis Week based on the theme “God Can!”, inviting more than 60 faculty and staff to share testimonies with students from Kindergarten to 12th grade about God’s faithfulness in their own lives. God always redeems his people and our situations in order to bring Him glory and accomplish His will in our lives.
With more Wesleyan ingenuity, many of our academy’s traditions were made possible through adjustments, including our first Spring Homecoming. Thanks to the lifting of some restrictions by the state, all of our students were able to enjoy the Homecoming Parade while the seniors decorated their hallway and high school students enjoyed an outdoor pep rally. To wrap up the week, the Wesleyan family showed up by the hundreds for our first Homecoming baseball game, complete with the 2020-2021 Homecoming Court.
SERVANT LEADERSHIP Thanks to the determination and planning of Pastor Deon and his team, Wesleyan was still able to minister to the community in so many new ways. From an infant supplies drive for young families and more than 1000 Valentine’s Day cards delivered to retirement homes throughout the region to a special dinner served by our Administration to a local elementary school’s faculty, our student body was able to touch the lives of hundreds of people in need.
As we prepare to celebrate the Academy’s 50th anniversary in 2021-2022, we are humbled and grateful for the way the Lord stretched us this year. His pruning has made us stronger, more dependent on Him, and therefore better equipped to handle whatever challenges are sure to come our way. One of many of God’s promises that I am especially thankful for is found in Romans 8:28 - “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purposes.” May we find our hope and trust in staying the course that the Lord has set before us. Thank you for your faithful support and prayers as we are determined that every child at Wesleyan ‘knows and lives the truth!’
For our His Glory and our children’s good,
Dr. Rob Brown, Head of SchoolACSI “EXEMPLARY ACCREDITATION”
WESLEYAN AWARDED ACSI “EXEMPLARY ACCREDITATION”
Wesleyan Christian Academy is now 1 of 17 of ACSI’s 2,800 schools to receive this level of accreditation
As we reported in the 2019-2020 Annual Report, Wesleyan Christian Academy was honored to receive full accreditation from the highly respected Council on Educational Standards and Accountability (CESA) in early 2020. With this accreditation, Wesleyan became one of only 44 Christian schools in the United States to have secured CESA accreditation.
In addition to CESA, Wesleyan was also granted dual accreditation in 2019-2020. As we headed into 2020-2021, our leadership saw another opportunity that would not only give Wesleyan students a significant edge in admissions and scholarship opportunities with the most competitive U.S. colleges, but would also provide increased levels of transparency and accountability in all facets of the school.
Therefore, Wesleyan’s administration and Board of Directors informed ACSI that it wished to seek the organization’s highest rank of “Exemplary Accreditation”.
After a very thorough and collegial visit by ACSI’s Accreditation Team in March, the ACSI Accreditation team recommended Wesleyan Christian Academy for “Exemplary Accreditation”— an honor bestowed on just 17 of its 2,800 Christian member schools. Per the Accreditation Team, Wesleyan met or exceeded all of its “Exemplary Schools” criteria—a phenomenal accomplishment!
Per the post-visit report provided by the team: “... a dimension of WCA’s excellence, or ‘gold in the bank’ as it is sometimes referred to, is the faculty. WCA’s teachers are dedicated to their academic areas, but they are even more committed to the students they teach.” Acknowledging that over 50% of Wesleyan’s faculty possesses advanced degrees, the report adds, “WCA’s faculty is highly qualified, deeply committed to the mission of WCA and effectively sharing the love of Christ with students.”
Possibly their highest commendation, came with an observation about our campus culture: “It was a privilege to visit a school where excellence is the norm. From the classroom of the youngest student to the conversations with the leadership and board, it was clear to see that ‘To Know and Live the Truth’ is more than just the coffee-cup version of the mission statement. It characterizes the school through its hiring, decision making, teaching and interactions.”
ACSI not only assesses academics, spiritual formation, and school culture, but also what it calls ‘school viability’. In their report, the team stated, “The school is strong, well-led, and has a realistic vision for growth in the community.” The team was especially impressed with our commitment to academic distinction, professional development, and biblical integration throughout our programming, while simultaneously dedicating ourselves to remaining affordable for families.
Finally, the ACSI team noted, “One of the overwhelming qualities of the WCA community environment is the community that families, students, and faculty and staff find at WCA. The relationships that make this special come from a group of people who share similar values and who truly value others more highly than themselves.”
As many alumni and current families may agree, we’ve always believed that we had something very special here that set Wesleyan apart; but to have this affirmed by individuals who regularly visit and interact with schools throughout the world is very encouraging!

WESLEYAN
With the arrival of the 2020-2021 school year, Wesleyan’s administration opened campus—after a spring of virtual learning due to the pandemic—to our students on August 18. With the Lord’s help, parents, faculty and administrators had one aim: to keep our children as healthy as possible, to make this a year that would continue to propel our students forward, and to enable them grow in life and in their faith, together.
By God’s grace, mercy and provision, Wesleyan’s 1,200-strong student body arrived on campus for their first of 180 school days, culminating in our last day of school on May 28. Throughout the year there was a spirit of thankfulness that pierced the temptation of frustration that could only come from the Lord.
The Administration and faculty would agree that seeing our students together, face-toface, was worth every second of time it took to plan for it. While 95% of our students were on campus, about 5% attended classes virtually, and were still able to see their teachers and classmates thanks to exciting new technology (Swivel and Google Meet).
As God would have it, some Wesleyan traditions had to pause this year, while other traditions, like Polar Express Day and a Virtual AGG Silent Auction were created! Other firsts for Wesleyan included our first On-Demand Spring Musical and Sidewalk Book Fair -- the latter of which was the most successful on record!
Wesleyan was blessed to have many new families join us throughout the year. We thank God for the privilege of welcoming these new students into the broader Wesleyan community. We praise Him for his faithfulness and for allowing us this great privilege to partner with hundreds of families, representing 65 zip codes and multiple ethnicities, united by our values and our belief in the one true God.
I would tell future students to cherish it. It’s really special and it’s kind of hard to leave since I’ve been here so long, but it is so much fun and you will learn so much.

CLASS OF 2021
THE CLASS OF 2021
Born on the heels of September 11, the class of 2021 entered the world when America was still reeling from an attack on our homeland. They began first grade in the year of the Great Recession of 2008, and in their junior and senior years, experienced a global pandemic that would take much from them.
As believers, we know it’s no mistake that these young men and women were born in a time when our cumulative will would be tested and pruned. Still, they have shown resilience and leadership throughout their time at Wesleyan, especially in their final year. Wise beyond their years, the class as a whole resolved to, as senior Boris Cyrnak said, “make the most of what we had been given” and as fellow classmate Kaitlyn McNeill explained “not be defined by the pandemic”. Class of 2021, thank you for doing exactly that, and for setting an example for us all.
FROM MR. RICKMAN
Since day one, the Class of 2021 was determined to “not go quietly.” This group of seniors is not only very mission-minded and focused on serving others, they are a determined bunch. And thank God for that, because they have needed to be. This year was frustrating for the entire world, yet early on, they set the tone and pressed on through every obstacle or disappointment. They, along with their parents, sacrificed much this year to something far beyond their control.
There was no Senior Picnic, but there was an unforgettable Senior Chapel. There was no Homecoming Soccer Game, but there was our first Homecoming Baseball Game which hundreds attended. There was no candy tossed to spectators during the Homecoming parade, instead juniors and seniors delivered bagged candy and a large dose of Trojan spirit to elementary classrooms. These are just a few examples of how the Class of 2021 demonstrated their resolve to carry on, no matter what. They were determined to make this a great senior year.
Although circumstances defined their senior year, it did not define them. During their years at Wesleyan, this group carved out memories that will never be forgotten and friendships that we pray will hold strong for years to come. They are funny, compassionate, and full of grit. They are savvy young entrepreneurs, athletes and artists, blessed with talent and a love for the Lord. And they are intelligent. With an average GPA of 4.38, this class will attend some of the best universities in the country next fall—and those colleges will be blessed to have them.
We thank the members of Wesleyan’s Class of 2021 and their parents for standing firm, for pressing on, and for investing in each other over the years. You have demonstrated to your Wesleyan family in countless ways that you are a powerful force as leaders and men and women of God. Now, go show the rest of the world.
I honestly think the greatest gift my parents gave to me was sending me to Wesleyan.

ACADEMICS
ACADEMIC OVERVIEW
2020-2021 brought with it an opportunity for creativity and innovation as we sought to continue our programming in the midst of a global pandemic. The Lord stretched the entire Wesleyan community, but with a common goal of delivering academic instruction on campus, the Lord brought us through each challenge. Some classroom adaptations, including virtual learning for vulnerable and quarantined students, were driven by the pandemic while other additions, like Virtual Reality headsets, expanded student learning. Sacrifice, ingenuity and perseverance was on full display this year -- which enabled our students to attend 180 days of curriculum while thousands of other schools did not.
THE YEAR IN ACADEMICS
To allow Wesleyan students who were either medically vulnerable or quarantined at various times to continue learning from home, Wesleyan was able to purchase several SWIVL robots which combined with Google Meets delivered a tailored two-way livestream of students’ classes. Students used the SWIVL technology to complete small group projects, participate in class lectures, and even have lunch with friends learning from home.
STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) new Virtual Reality headsets enabled students to “swim” in the depths of the ocean, examine the inside of healthy and unhealthy lungs, and “climb” to the top of Mt. Everest. Meanwhile, a new 3D printer allowed young learners to see objects come to life and older students a chance to hone their programming and design skills.
Recognizing the competing needs to support students struggling with a particular concept, while giving students who have mastered grade-level concepts new learning experiences, Wesleyan implemented an Intervention/Extension Hour in each elementary classroom. Each week students who had mastered a particular grade-level concept had the opportunity to work beyond their grade level during the teacher-led, dedicated Extension Hour. Simultaneously, those who needed additional instruction on grade-level concepts were able to review that concept with their teacher, sealing the name Intervention & Extension hour.
Through new dual-enrollment partnerships with Liberty University and Southern Wesleyan, juniors and seniors were able to choose from 39 college-level classes, offered via Wesleyan’s Technology Center, to complete for college credit. These Dual-enrollment classes beautifully supplement our 25 Honors classes and 14 Advanced Placement classes.
Three Wesleyan seniors, Boris Crynak, Sarah Huneycutt and Ethan Twiddy, were selected to work with seasoned researchers at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering through the Draelos Scholars Program in Summer 2020 - a tremendous honor and opportunity.
Also this year, 169 Varsity Athletes earned the title of Scholar Athletes (a student who plays a Varsity sport and has a GPA of 3.5 or above)., 41 of which were seniors! Great job Trojans!
The academic atmosphere at Wesleyan uniquely
prepared
me
for
college
by combining a rigorous course load with an individualized
investment from my teach-
ers.
WCA teachers not only challenged me from day to day, but made it their mission to ensure my academic success. WCA teachers even went
above
and beyond by encouraging us to get plugged in
joining
by
clubs and organizations
that met our personal interests. When I arrived at my college campus, WCA had equipped me to take charge of my own learning, empowering my ability to balance class time, studying and extracurriculars.

TO KNOW AND LIVE THE TRUTH.
EARLY EDUCATION CENTER
FROM DIRECTOR EMILY ORMAN
ENROLLED 240
This year was different in many ways but full of God’s blessings each and every day. As we were able to remain open during the pandemic, our operations, procedures, and protocols were quickly adjusted for the health and safety of our staff and students. We kicked off the year with new check-in stations, adult masked faces, and new schedules as our classes did not intermingle. While all of the changes were in place, there were definitely things that did not change. Our students were well taken care of, taught skills in a fun and nurturing environment, and were shown the love of Jesus!
As our year continued, our Pre-K 4 classes were able to continue having their weekly special classes, which included: Music, led by Ms. Gray, Library, led by Mrs. Mack, and Technology, led by Mrs. Farrell. We shifted to a virtual chapel platform for our Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 classes. This precious time was in the classrooms where our little learners were able to worship through an interactive chapel streamed into each classroom.
As some of the COVID-19 regulations were lifted, we are able to have our 73 PreK 4 graduates celebrate with an in-person ceremony! Individually, each class said their pledges, sang songs, and honored the graduates by giving them their Preschool diplomas in their caps and gown.
We all adjusted well to what this year had to look like, but we are eager to get back to having more interactions with our families!
EEC SPECIALS
As part of its Pre-K curriculum, Wesleyan’s EEC offered our Pre-K students Academy-level Special Classes for the second consecutive year, including:
• Media Center / Library (2 semesters)
• Technology (1 semester)
• Music (1 semester)
• Science/Technology/Engineering/Math (STEM) (1x/month for 2 semesters)
EEC EXTRACURRICULARS
Our Early Education Center is blessed to partner with a few fabulous third party services who provide extra-curricular activities to our students who have registered for them during the school day!
• Soccer Shots
• Star Aquatics
• High Point Gymnastics
FAVORITE SUMMER CAMP WINNER!
Each year, the popular website, blog, and podcast, www.triadmomsonmain.com, sponsors its Annual Choice Awards for all things Triad, covering Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Burlington, High Point, and the surrounding Triad areas. This year, Wesleyan Christian Academy was pleased to be selected as the 2021 #1 Choice for Summer Camps and the #1 Private School. According to Summer Camp Director Amy McNeill, “This was such an honor. We are so glad that so many people in our community know the quality program that we offer elementary students each summer. God has blessed us with phenomenal volunteers who love our campers and work to give them a great summer experience!

EVENTS IN 2020 - 2021
STORYBOOK CHARACTER PARADE
Elementary students participated in Wesleyan’s Storybook Character Parade as we wrapped up October. Each student was asked to choose a character from a book and then dress up like that character on the day of the parade. Bystanders enjoyed seeing Curious George, Neil Armstrong, Rosa Parks and an entire 4th grade class of Star Wars characters!
TRIUMPHAL ENTRY PARADE
One of Wesleyan’s oldest and dearest tradition, Jesus’s Triumphal Entry parade, was beautifully remembered by our first grade students in the week before Easter.
CHARLOTTE’S WEB DAY
Charlotte’s Web Day, which represents a long-held Wesleyan 3rd grade tradition was full of all things Charlotte, Wilbur, Fern, Templeton, and the crew! Students enjoyed seeing each other’s book dioramas along with Wilbur cakes and cupcakes, and even a petting zoo, compliments of the Mayer and Simmons families.
ELEMENTARY GAMES DAY
To the joy of hundreds of Wesleyan’s elementary students, we were once again able to host our Elementary Games Day after missing it in Spring 2020. From the dunking booth, dodge ball, water gun tag, and everything in between, this was a day of celebration!

OVERVIEW
ENROLLED 50
To say that this year presented new and unique challenges is a definite understatement; however, with continual professional development along with teachers who were determined to promote sound learning and academic gains among their students, our Enrichment Center teachers accepted the challenge and never looked back. In the midst of masks, physical distancing, and constant sanitizing protocols, learning continued at an amazing pace, and our students were both very active participants, as well as the recipients of a stellar year of learning as we completed our 18th year of specialized instruction.
Flexibility was definitely a key point for success this year, as many students, as well as teachers, were occasionally quarantined due to a possible exposure to the virus. Both students and teachers learned to operate at home with live instruction, following the schedule of their normal school day. While some were learning or teaching from home, others remained at school; and the learning process was never interrupted. Mastery of the Google Classroom platform became second nature to most of our students and proved very helpful when a stay-at-home period was required. What an answer to prayer that we were able to keep the doors of our school open for the entire school year!
Our high school government students enjoyed hearing Dr. Barry Cheek as he spoke on capitalism, including such topics as supply and demand, various economic theories, the importance of balancing a budget, and spending our money wisely. The students were very engaged as Dr. Cheek challenged them to appreciate our capitalistic society and to stay alert to changes that we see developing on the economic front.
Our end-of-grade testing revealed some amazing academic growth, which is a tribute to our students, parents, and teachers. Basing our teaching on Bloom’s Taxonomy and building up to higher-order thinking skills within each class level became very apparent when observing the classroom. Our Orton Gillingham prescriptive methodology continued throughout the year, and reading and writing scores increased significantly, as revealed in test scores. Our math classes, as well as all classes, carried out the mission of providing a college preparatory education within a Christian environment to ready our students for graduation and to successfully continue their education in a college setting.
GRADUATES
Our graduates outdid themselves this year with both academics and extracurricular activities. One of our graduates, who has been involved with journalism for several years, was co-editor of the school yearbook. That is quite an achievement! Others were very involved with sports teams, working diligently to bring their team to victory. Our 2021 graduates will be attending Randolph Community College, GTCC or Forsyth Tech, NC State University, and Liberty University. Congrats to our graduates as they move on to this next step in their lives. We pray that you will feel God’s presence daily as you start this new adventure.
TEACHER ACCOLADES
Congratulations to all our teachers for bravely teaching in a spectacular manner this year!
Congrats also to:
Mrs. Lauren Miller who co-coached the Battle of the Books team with Mrs Emily Mack. This team won the state title which is very impressive!
Mrs. Lisa McAbee who assisted Mrs. Lauren Sherwood in presenting a teacher seminar on Bloom’s Taxonomy.
Mrs. Mary Pat Ray who coached the school’s elementary running team and Mrs. Jenny Derr sponsored Go Far.
Mrs. Nadine Griffin who led many seminars for our teachers regarding technology and ways to utilize it most effectively within our department.
Mrs. Sarah Denton who is the Head Coach for the Varsity Girls’ Soccer team led them to the state finals. Mrs. Lauren Sherwood is the Assistant Coach.
“
As an Enrichment Center student, our daughter is making great grades (A’s and B’s) and working in an environment that caters to her learning style while teaching the same college-preparatory curriculum as Wesleyan’s traditional K-12 Academy. The best part is she’s learning in an intentionally Christian environment from men and women who truly care about who my daughter is as a whole person, not just her learning disability.

FOR THE SPIRIT OF ATHLETICS
OVERVIEW
Due to the pandemic, NCISAA Athletics faced delay after delay and frustrations seemingly at every turn which impacted our 2020-2021 seasons. However, once the details were laid out and teams were on board, Wesleyan Athletic Director Elijah Denton, his staff, and coaches honed in on the details to do everything in their power to give our student-athletes a great experience. Each of our teams represented Wesleyan with fierceness and class. And despite setbacks, Wesleyan fielded 33 teams this year, and 13 senior athletes signed commitments to continue their sports careers in college. A tremendous accomplishment Trojans! Well done.
MEET OUR TROJANS OF THE YEAR!
Trojans of the Year candidates must be a senior and have proven themselves academically, while displaying a Christ-like testimony on and off the field; demonstrate integrity and have earned the respect of faculty and the student body; have lettered in one sport; and have proven their ability within the realms of their sport.
Female Trojan of the Year: Eden Reitnour. Eden is an honor roll student and a member of the Senior Beta Club, the National Honor Society, and the French Honors Society. She has served on the Student Body Leadership Team, Co-President of the Geography Club, member of the RC Sproul Book Club and Creative Writing Club.
Eden has competed on the Varsity Track, Cross Country and Varsity Soccer teams. She also volunteered as a coach with both WISL and All Sports Camp.
Male Trojan of the Year: Jaxon Barber. Jaxon is an honor roll student, a member of the Senior Beta Club, National Honor Society, and the Student Body Leadership Team. Jaxon has served as a Breakfast Buddy and mission trip volunteer to Lynch, Kentucky and Guatemala, in addition to and participating in and leading small group Bible study. Jaxon has competed on the the Varsity Golf team and served as a counselor at multiple summer athletic camps.
Wesleyan Athletics has given our children every opportunity we had hoped for in a highly competitive athletic experience. Our children and family have been blessed, at every level, by the prayers and mentorship coaches have poured into our children over the years. They have benefited from the intentionality that the coaching staff takes to prepare these kids to be strong athletes, true competitors, accountable leaders, and young men and women who grow to be strong examples to underclassmen in behavior, discipline, and sportsmanship on and off the field.

TROJAN CLUB
FROM TROJAN CLUB PRESIDENT, ELIZABETH SMITH
The Trojan Club provided support to our coaching staff, our athletes, and our families. As you may know, the Trojan Club supports athletics at WCA by promoting school spirit, supporting athletic department activities, and promoting Christian character development.
Like the entire Wesleyan family, the Trojan Club in the 2020-2021 season faced many challenges with COVID restrictions, but like the entire school, the challenges brought opportunities for other ways of supporting our athletes, coaching staff and our families.
CONTRIBUTIONS
Since many of the Trojan Club’s normal activities, such as concessions and memberships to athletic events were not feasible, alternative ways of supporting the Athletic Department at WCA were facilitated. The Trojan Club sold “fat heads” for the boys soccer team in the fall to show support in the stands, offered snack packs for spring sport athletes and had a pop-up sidewalk sale for merchandise in the fall, as well as two online stores during the year.
Other Trojan Club events that we were lucky to continue to provide were our first-ever Homecoming at the new property for a baseball game, WCA blankets for senior athletes, trophies and awards for all sports, and Senior athlete lunches. FCA was able to host one event at the end of the year when outside restrictions were lifted. In addition to all of those provisions, the Club also awarded college scholarships to Eden Reitnour and Jaxon Barber as recipients of the “Trojan of the Year” awards!
THANK YOU
We appreciate the parents, faculty and students who continued to support the Trojan Club in a year like no other. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to volunteering in our on-premise store, working concession stands and hosting our normal Trojan Club activities. On behalf of the Trojan Club, thank you for your investment and support of Wesleyan Christian Academy and our students!

LIFE ON WESLEYAN’S CAMPUS
OLD TRADITIONS TWEAKED WHILE NEW TRADITIONS EMERGE
In a year that proved difficult to fulfill each Wesleyan tradition, students, parents, staff, and faculty worked together to help students enjoy as many of those moments as possible that have become the fabric of life for the Wesleyan community.
For example, instead of an auditorium filled with grandparents on Grandparents Honor Day, students wrote letters to their grands, and in turn, their grandparents read books via livestream to their grandchildren’s classes. And in place of the Veteran’s Day program, elementary students created homemade cards to hand deliver to local veterans. New traditions were also birthed, including the PTO’s first October Pumpkin Patch! By staging our Centennial Street lawn, the PTO provided hayrides, games and treats as our young learners celebrated the season. Another new tradition sprang up in May when Wesleyan’s PTO invited the entire Wesleyan family for a “Movie Night at the Rockers!” For the first time, many of our virtual learning students were able to see their friends in person, making this an extra special night for friends and families.
Other traditions were forced to pause altogether, but the administration was determined to make one Wesleyan tradition a reality, even though it was a few months late. Students gathered on a Friday morning in April to watch upperclassmen, led by Mr. Rickman, in our traditional Homecoming parade. The festivities continued on the soccer field with a pep rally for high school students and then at the Sandy Ridge Campus, where hundreds of Wesleyan friends and family cheered on our Varsity Boys Baseball team against Carmel Christian.
Moments together in 2020-2021 were definitely fewer than normal, but one thing is certain. Each moment that we were together was even sweeter.
AND THEN THERE WERE TWO
As she was known on campus this year, Wesleyan’s Most Valuable Player Nurse Shannon Moore worked around the clock each and every day to ensure the health and safety of our students. While her job has always been full, the demands of the pandemic multiplied responsibilities, leading the academy to hire Lesley Papciak, a Wesleyan parent and highly skilled nurse to support Nurse Moore in her efforts. To say she jumped in with both feet is an understatement. These two were a dynamic duo as they tracked student and family health and managed relationships with the Guilford County Health Department, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, and the Centers for Disease Control.

FINE ARTS
FROM FINE ARTS DIRECTOR, JOE HILLIARD
As in most areas, COVID changed the trajectory of this past year in Fine Arts; however, our students accepted the challenge and never stopped making music. Although we were unable to perform for Homecoming and have an in-person performance at Christmas, we were able to be in class every day, with masks and social distancing, and were able to present Christmas at Wesleyan with the use of technology. Although not ideal, we were thankful for the opportunity to perform for our parents, families and friends.
Our Praise Band led worship each week in chapel with the help of Alex Jennings and the tech team. They recorded their worship music to be played at the beginning of each chapel. We are thankful for the strong spiritual tone they brought to chapel each week.
The highlight of the year was the presentation of Annie. Once again, although not ideal, the students persevered with unwavering determination through rehearsals, tornado warnings, quarantine, masks, and a multitude of additional challenges to present an outstanding presentation of this year’s musical. It was indeed a blessing to see the students bond together with the resolve to make it work despite the circumstances. We were able to perform live for a limited audience, but were licensed to stream ondemand the show to family and friends for the weekend of the show and the week following. We are so thankful for the Lord’s blessing upon every aspect of this year’s presentation.
We ended the year with the opportunity to perform LIVE. Our annual Awards Concert took on a very different performance style this year, but was very well received. The Wind Ensemble and Middle School Bands held their final concert on the lawn in front of the performing arts auditorium. It was a beautiful evening and enjoyed by all. The vocal groups enjoyed a live performance in the auditorium, although distanced, we were able perform without masks. It was a joy to once again see the smiles and expressions on the faces of the vocal students. It was an amazing way to end a very challenging year.
We wish to congratulate our 39 graduates of Performing Arts and wish them God’s riches blessings on the next chapter of their lives. We are thankful for the gifts and talents they have shared with us during their high school career.
Unlike most schools, we were able to be in class each day, perform at Christmas, present a high school musical, and end with a live performance—we were blessed. We are so grateful the Lord allowed us to have this year to honor Him in this way!
SoliDeo Gloria —Joe Hilliard
Joining Wesleyan’s Fine Arts program is probably one of the best decisions I’ve made since beginning at Wesleyan in the 6th grade. This year, I was one of two 8th graders in the cast for the spring musical so it was kind of scary at first because I didn’t know many of the upper classmen, or what to expect. By doing the musical I met so many new, incredible people who were so kind to me, and were willing to help me any time I asked. Performing is something I’ve always loved, and to be able to sing and dance and act through this program at Wesleyan has been a wonderful experience.

WESLEYAN TEACHING STUDIOS
The Teaching Studio was blessed to be able to offer lessons and programs throughout the 2020 - 2021 school year though formats and groupings were of necessity altered by the circumstances imposed by health and safety considerations.
Many instructors sought ways to continue music instruction by virtual means with significant investments in both equipment and time. Percussion instructor, Jim Brandt, outfitted his studio with the latest video and audio equipment and specialized software in order to provide students with the opportunity to continue their musical instruction online.
Drama Kids offered two elementary classes each giving a spring performance. The 4th grade class performed “The Cleanest Town in Texas.” Nic Kursonis, Instructor.
Dance at Wesleyan offered classes for Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade as well as an Upper Level class. In addition, private lessons were available for advanced students. The year culminated with a spring dance recital, “In The Spotlight!”

Eighth graders created “Micrography Portraits” using a quote from an inspirational person in their life, or by using words that describe that person. The Seventh graders drew “Monochromatic Self Portraits” by drawing their own faces and separating the face into different values. Both processes required multiple steps. Elementary families were challenged to be creative and make a family crest representing their heritage, interests, favorite places to travel, or any special memory. Just a few examples of how our students displayed their creativity.

GOD’S FAITHFULNESS
The 2019-2020 school year began with a wonderful time of students and staff gathering to pray for our school, and wow, the Lord greatly blessed us! Despite the unpredictability of the year, God’s faithfulness was evident in everything our students did to help bring honor to our Lord and Savior.
God graciously provided our needs over and over again. We couldn’t have in-person chapels, so he provided a way for us to offer chapels virtually. Our chaplain, Pastor Deon Parker couldn’t meet many Wesleyan parents face-to-face; however, God blessed this partnership by offering a series of virtual videos called “A Portion for Parents.” At the beginning of the school year, we had to cancel some events, but several doors were opened by the end of the school year for us to hold some of our most treasured events. God is so kind.
On the following pages, you will see just how blessed we are at Wesleyan with students and their families who continually answer the call to give and serve others. From diaper drives to making and delivering valentine cards to the elderly in our community, ministering to the homeless of Greensboro, and so much more, we are reminded of the faithfulness of our Lord and what a blessing and gift each one of our Wesleyan families are. Without our students and support from their parents, the Spiritual Life Department would not have made the impact we have had on our community. We truly are blessed!
In the years ahead, may God be even more glorified through Wesleyan, may your children be more blessed at Wesleyan, and our alumni be more proud of Wesleyan than ever before!
“The LORD is God, and he has made his light shine on us…” - Psalm 118:27, NIV
For Christ and all of you,
Deon Parker
Spiritual Life Director, Wesleyan Christian Academy
It takes a village. And Wesleyan Christian Academy has been a large part of our village since our oldest child entered kindergarten in 1999. Wesleyan has been a trusted and gracious partner as we have raised our three children throughout the last two decades. We could not be more thankful for the Christian education that our children received at Wesleyan. The foundation we collectively built together has allowed each of our children to continue the legacy of following Christ in their personal lives and business endeavors.

UNITING TO SERVE
CHURCH UNDER THE BRIDGE
For the past several years, Wesleyan students and staff have had the privilege of serving the homeless through the impactful hands-on ministry of Church Under the Bridge located on Spring Garden Street in Greensboro. This year, we were able to minister there twice. High School students, along with staff, spent their day preparing a meal for their guests and loading up dinner on one of Wesleyan’s buses, and taking it to the outdoor church, where many enjoyed a delicious healthy meal. The day ended with the true Bread of Life being shared by Pastor Deon Parker as he gave a heart-stirring message of hope. We are grateful to God for this opportunity to be the “hands and feet of Jesus” to those who are hurting and in need.
VALENTINE’S DAY OUTREACH
Wesleyan’s Pre-K through 12-grade students created over 1,000 valentine cards that were delivered to eight different High Point and Greensboro retirement centers and nursing homes. Thanks to the hundreds of students who made the cards and students (mostly seniors) and staff who delivered them. It was truly a joy to see all of the happy and excited faces as they received these handmade cards!
DIAPER DRIVE FOR LOCAL MINISTRY
We praise the Lord for all of the donations we received from students and their families for New Life Family Outreach in High Point. We were able to give 7,100 diapers and 268 packs of baby wipes to this wonderful organization. This outreach ministers and partners with churches and the community to promote “the sanctity of life, protecting the unborn and demonstrating the love of Christ to women, couples, and families.” What a blessing it was to help young families in our community.
KIRKMAN PARK ELEMENTARY TEACHER APPRECIATION
Wesleyan’s administration had the distinct privilege of serving the teachers of our neighbor school, Kirkman Park Elementary, a delicious lunch provided by our very own Chef Scott. It was a joy to share a meal with these dear friends and let them know how much we appreciate all they have done for our community. Earlier in the year, our Wesleyan family collected snacks and drinks for their after-school program.
SPIRITUAL EMPHASIS 2021
In January, we kicked off our annual Spiritual Emphasis Week. Even with COVID and not being able to meet together in the auditorium, God truly blessed this week. This year’s theme was “God Can.” Students experienced four full days of hearing God’s work in the lives of the people they know and love here at Wesleyan as they powerfully demonstrated that GOD CAN. Spiritual Emphasis has been a middle school and high school event; however, this year, we had the privilege of having our Early Education and Elementary School students participate in their very own Spiritual Emphasis Day, and WOW, what a sweet time it was. Thanks to each faculty and staff member and student leader who shared how God has worked in their lives to show us all how he CAN do anything!
SEE YOU AT THE POLE
In a year where our nation and world needs prayer more than ever, middle school and high school students gathered on the soccer field in September for the annual See You at the Pole (SYATP) global prayer event. This year’s theme was “United.” Senior Chaplains, Jaxon Barber and Erika Lance, Student Body President, Davidson Dew, and Praise Team member Tatum Davis led the students and staff in prayer for the salvation of everyone in the WCA family, Christ-authored unity in our school, the well-being of our surrounding community, and for God to bless our nation. Later in the day, Pastor Deon gathered around the flagpole with individual Elementary School classes so that our entire school could participate in praying together. There was no better way to start the first quarter of the school year! “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” James 5:16.

ALUMNI
THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED
Alumni James Willoughby-Ray shares his personal story of finding the Lord while serving others.
Wesleyan is blessed to have many alumni serving Christ worldwide, and one of our fine alums, James Willoughby-Ray (2020), had the time of his life doing just that in South Africa. James worked with the outreach and missions of YWAM. Before going to South Africa, he spent three months in Kona, Hawaii, in YWAM’s disciple and leadership program.
James first learned about YWAM through a chapel service at Wesleyan during his junior year. At the time, James didn’t think much about other options since he was focused on going to college. However, his outlook changed during his senior year. With no idea yet of what area of study he wanted to pursue, he found himself lost in worldly desires. After counsel from his father, he began to consider taking a gap year. One of his fellow graduates from Wesleyan shared with him about YWAM in Hawaii, and his interest in this endeavor began to pique. James even said, “I knew if I kept on the path from high school to college, I would be so lost as I knew college would be a huge test of my faith.” He finally decided to apply, and the results were a life completely changed for Christ.
During James’ time with YWAM, he says he “learned that being a Christ-follower is having a genuinely intimate relationship with Jesus.” Even though there were moments of fear in deciding to join YWAM, he will quickly tell you today that he has no regrets about his choice. James states, “I have never felt so much joy and worth in this newfound relationship with Jesus. Not only was I able to have an adventure in beautiful places like Hawaii, but I found my true identity in Jesus, and I got to spread the love I found throughout South Africa.” For James, this was the best decision he has ever made, and he will readily and eagerly encourage others to consider doing the same.
“
Wesleyan has had an amazing impact on my life and I am incredibly grateful for my experience. I thoroughly enjoy staying connected with the alumni community and faculty at games and events.
James is just one example of the fine alumni from Wesleyan who are world-changers for Christ. We are very proud of him and all of our alums as they leave Wesleyan equipped and ready to serve Christ and influence the world! This fall James will attend Auburn University in Alabama.

TROJAN ALUM PICKED IN MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL DRAFT
Former Wesleyan (‘18) and University of South Carolina baseball player Brett Kerry was selected as the #141st pick in the fifth round of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft by the Los Angeles Angels! Brett has taken the gifts that God has given him and worked incredibly hard toward this great accomplishment. We look forward to following Brett’s career in the MLB in the years to come!

THE DONOR DIFFERENCE
Wesleyan is blessed by the generosity of faithful donors who help to provide a program that is second to none. This year our community helped underwrite many areas including, but not limited to, STEM Lab additions, a new Cultural Awareness program, Missions Outreach, a Performing Arts’ LED Screen and drama productions, athletics, the Early Education Center and financial aid. In addition, our AGG reached new heights with record giving with more than $319,000. What a blessing!
In the second quarter of 2021, many families were faced with either taking a reduction in pay or losing their primary source of income. Recognizing this, Wesleyan’s Board of Directors authorized the creation of an Emergency Covid Fund to help these families in addition to our annual needs-based Financial Aid. Thanks to the foresight of our leadership, 20 additional families’ needs were met through this emergency fund. We are so thankful for a Board that graciously donates financially to the school, for gracious donors, and God’s provision!

PRAYER
It’s my joy to give to Wesleyan because I believe in the purpose and mission of the school. I want to see children have every opportunity to receive the best education available and grow in their relationship with God. By doing my small part, I am helping secure the future for our kids to go out into the world and shine their beacons of truth and make a difference in the lives of others. “
JAMES MAYER Wesleyan Parent
We know that placing a child in a Christian school may necessitate a financial sacrifice or a geographical inconvenience. However, watching your child grow academically and spiritually makes all the effort, all the time, and all the money worth it. Our culture needs strong Christian leaders and Wesleyan needs your support to enable children to attend our school, provide the best education possible, and help us equip the next generation of Christian leaders that will make a positive impact in the world. TO KNOW AND LIVE THE TRUTH.

FINANCIAL AID
THE NEED
For many years, parents have partnered with Wesleyan Christian Academy in order to ensure their children benefit from an exceptionally strong Christian school education. In 1981, the first graduation was held. Today, over 1500 graduates serve in a wide variety of vocations and professions. The desire for Christian school education continues to grow, but the cost of education becomes an increasingly difficult challenge for both parents and the school.
THE SOLUTION
To meet this significant challenge, the Financial Aid Fund was established. The fund is used to assist families who have qualified and documented need for financial assistance. Donors that give to financial aid have become an important SOLUTION to meet this increasing NEED. Over the years, an increasing number of donors including: parents, grandparents, and friends of the academy have invested in the lives of students through a gift to this fund. Without this fund, many students would not be able to attend the academy. In recent years, over 200 students per year were provided tuition assistance, which represents approximately 20% of Wesleyan students.
ANNUAL GIFT GIVING (AGG)
Gifts to the Annual Gift Giving campaign support special projects that enhance our student’s experience through a wide variety of academic and extra-curricular opportunities.
FACULTY ENDOWMENT FUND
The Faculty Endowment Fund is used to provide professional development and to honor the innovation of our amazing teachers.
PLANNED GIVING
Planned Giving provides a process of stewardship that has the potential of being advantageous to both the donor and the academy. Through planned giving gifts, the academy can be assured of continued financial strength, thus ensuring that future generations will have the same kind of excellent Christian education that we have offered for over 45 years.
ALL GIFTS ARE TAX DEDUCTABLE

CPR MANNEQUINS
Nurse Moore demonstrates how to perform CPR using our new mannequins. These mannequins are used to provide training for all of our WCA first responders , teacher volunteers, Early Ed employees as well as our ninth graders. Such a blessing to have this type of training available for our staff and students.
NEW POTTERY KILN
This upcoming school year our high school students will enjoy the benefits of a new pottery kiln. Students will be able to participate in the entire creative process of pottery making.
NEW SOUND SYSTEM
As our students transition back to in-person chapels, a state-of-the-art sound system will make this experience more impactful.
AGG CAMPAIGN GOES VIRTUAL
Our Annual Gift Giving Campaign was a bit different than in years past, but that did not stop our administration from enjoying being a part of our first ever virtual assembly. The principals loved demonstrating ways that students could earn money for AGG during our AGG video.
AGG AMOUNT RAISED IN 2020: $351,773.65
With the support of our families, alumni, grandparents, and corporate sponsors, we had a record-setting campaign raising $351,773.65. The Lord blessed us in abundance. Thanks to all of our donors, including students, we were able to purchase things like new CPR mannequins , a new pottery kiln, a new sound system in the auditorium along with additional educational enhancements.
