What’s happening to the Methodist Church? There has been much speculation about the redevelopment of the Westbourne Methodist Chruch on Poole Road. Suggested uses have included offices, a gym, flats, a Tesco, a Weatherspoon pub and even a lap dancing club. The Council granted permission for A1, A2 or A3/A4 use in October so any of these are possible. We contacted Melanie Chiswell, Corporate Affairs Manager at Tesco as one of more the likely plans, “we do not comment on speculation” she said. We talk to Melanie who owns 'Beach and Body' and is also President of the Westbourne Traders Association. What is Beach and Body? “Beach and Body is a fabulous (in my opinion!) ladies fashion swimwear shop.” How long have you been up and running? “We opened the shop 10 years ago, that was when we moved to Westbourne. We planned to trade here for about 5 years. This is our 11th year.” What are you looking forward to in 2010? “I can't wait for our new swimwear range which will be arriving in the new year. ” What is the Westbourne Traders Association? “The Westbourne Traders Association is the longest established traders association in the area. In 2009 we created the Westbourne Traders Map which has been distributed in Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire.” What do you think about Westbourne? “I love Westbourne, to live in and to do business in.” How could it be improved? “I’m not sure that it can be improved! We are constantly reminding customers about the diverse and interesting shopping and business area Westbourne is.” Any New Years Resolutions? “My resolution for 2010 is to put time to one side each week to explore this beautiful area that we live in more extensively. ”
