TEMBER 1, 202

West Shore Parks & Recreation’s vision is to inspire its community to Move. Learn. Play for life! Starting September 2021, WSPR is excited to offer a wide variety of programs to suit your child care needs and start your child’s journey to an active, curious and healthy lifestyle. With funding from Ministry of Children and Family Development and the Union of British Columbia Municipalities, renovations have started in the upper JDF Rec Centre to create the new WSPR Childcare Centre. Included in this beautiful new community space will be 24 new full-time daycare, 30 new preschool and 40 new afterschool care spaces and an outdoor playground for licensed care.

WSPR embraces a Move. Learn. Play. based philosophy in a brand new, fully accessible Childcare Centre. Our Early Childhood Education certified leaders are trained in fundamental movement and physical literacy skills and facilitate inclusive, safe and enjoyable activities that encourage the children’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development. The individuality of each child is respected and supported with the goal of fostering their creativity, confidence and a lifelong love of learning and movement. Children will have access to the vast amenities at WSPR including the natural outdoors, Indoor Sports Complex, arena, pool and special activities such as dance, language, arts, sports, yoga and skating. Applications of interest still being taken. Click here for more information >

WSPR is excited to expand the ASC program with the addition of 40 new spots in its newly renovated Childcare Centre. ASC will be a continuation of the Move. Learn. Play. based philosophy incorporating physical literacy, diverse art, craft and science activities along with lots of time for free play and socialization. Peer-lead leadership groups for the older children ensure all ages are inspired and motivated during their time after school. WSPR picks up from 12 schools in the local area: John Stubbs, David Cameron, Lakewood, Millstream, Ruth King, Savory, Sangster, Wishart, Eagle View, Crystal View, Happy Valley and Colwood Elementary schools. A minimum of 5 children registered at each school is required for WSPR to be able to pick up. Priority will be given to families requiring full-time (5 day) care. WSPR is extremely lucky to have such an amazing site where camps can be spread out to ensure compliance with social distancing guidelines and health policies but some adaptations remain in place at this time. Current changes include: • Camp staff and children over 12 to wear masks • All camps will be weekly registration – No Daily registration camps • No Pre or Post Camp offerings • Out trips are cancelled – all camps will remain at their base locations • The majority of the camp day will be spent outside where possible • Enhanced COVID-19 based Summer camp policies and procedures to be sent out and signed off on prior to starting camp.
