CANCELLATION, WITHDRAWALS AND REFUNDS POLICY
GENERAL PROGRAMS
Full credits or refunds will be processed by contacting reception a minimum of 7 DAYS (prior to the start time) for pro-d day, winter break, spring break and summer camps and 3 DAYS (prior to the start time) of all other courses/program start dates (less supply costs).
Full credits or refunds are issued when West Shore Parks & Recreation cancels a program or when the program is not convenient due to course changes.
Every effort is made to cancel in a timely manner (3 to 5 days prior to course start date). Some exceptions may apply.
Refund or credit requests for classes that have passed need to be approved by the program supervisor.
PASSES AND MEMBERSHIPS
Visit Passes, 1 month and 3month memberships and promotional passes are non-transferable and non-refundable but may be upgraded to an annual membership. Annual adult and annual family memberships are eligible for a one-time extension for leaves exceeding 30 days. Leaves less than 30 days may be granted for medical or personal emergencies. Requests may be granted for cancellation of annual memberships for relocating out of the Greater Victoria region or medical reasons. Cancellations are effective at the end of the current month. Regional Annual Pass may be cancelled for medical reasons, relocating out of the Greater Victoria region, or compassionate reasons I.e. lost their job or other financial situation change. Patrons must hand in their regional pass card or provide photographic evidence of card and sticker is destroyed (cut up). The pass is not cancelled until the pass has been returned or photograph received.
Credits are valid for one year from the date of issue. For refunds, payments made by credit card or debit will be credited to original credit/debit card (some restrictions apply).
All other refunds are refunded by cheque and processed within 15 working days. A $25 fee may apply to NSF cheques, credit card or electronic fund transfer rejections. Refunds may be granted at the discretion of WSPRS staff. Documentation may be required. Some exceptions may apply and will be listed on your program receipts.

Improve Your Short Game, Improve Your Score.
Located in the lower park at West Shore Parks & Recreation. The JDF Par 3 golf course consists of nine beautifully manicured holes, with yardage ranging from 79 to 170 and seven water hazards, this course is ideal for both the beginner and the experienced player. This course will only take a short commitment of time and is conveniently located only 20 minutes from downtown. Play on a first come first served basis – tee times not required.

Preschool – Learn to Skate 3-6 Years 30 Minute Lessons

First time skaters will get comfortable on the ice with an adult.
Participants will be taught basic skating skills including: balancing on two feet, touching toes, walking forwards, marching and falling down.
This class is for children who can skate independently. Skills include: gliding, two foot jumps, making snow and walking backwards.
Children learn v-pushes, one foot gliding, two foot jump while gliding, walking backwards with some glide, two foot quarter-turns and stopping.
Children learn two-foot glides on a curve, walking cross cuts, backward sculling and backwards stopping.
Skating
Party (JDF Arena – Youth Room)
2:00-4:30pm Sunday Only
Bring your ice skating kids & family to the JDF arena to enjoy the Everyone welcome skate from 2-2:50pm, then move the group to the Youth Room for gifts and snacks. Helmets are required for all children skating and are recommended for adults. Skate rentals are included for up to 20 guests, please feel free to bring your own skates.
$231/2.5 hour party duration.
South Island Ravens Hockey
This is a team-focused program designed for male and female children that have developmental disabilities. No experience is necessary and all skill levels are welcome. Parent or support worker participation required (please note all support workers must have a current Criminal Record Check).

Learn to Play Sledge Hockey
This drop-in program allows players with or without disabilities to participate in fun, skills based sledge hockey session. No prior sledge hockey experience required and equipment provided.

A class for children with very little or no skating experience. Learn the basics of ice safety and to stand and walk by themselves in an encouraging environment.
This class is for children who can skate independently on the ice. Skills include: forward sculling, one foot forward glides, stopping, walking backwards with some glide, and two foot half turns on the spot.
Skills children will learn include: one foot glides on a curve, forwards walking cross cuts, backwards skating and sculling, two foot backwards glide to one foot, and snow plow stop.
Children will learn: two foot stop, forwards crosscuts, turning forwards to backwards, backwards to forwards, and two foot jump in a glide backwards.
Children learn backwards mohawk turn, two foot stop in both directions, one foot jump gliding forward, fast backwards start and fast forward start from back stop.
An intro to advanced skating, continuing to focus and enhance acquired skills. This class allows participants the opportunity to request specific skills they would like to focus on with unstructured practice time with instructor supervision.
Rentals
Skate lesson fees do not include skate rentals. Rentals for lessons are available for a reduced rate ($1.50). Please arrive 15 minutes early for the first class to allow time to fit skate rentals.
Helmets
Helmets are required for all lesson participants. Participants are encouraged to wear gloves mittens, warm jackets and warm flexible clothing.
Enquire
Classes end 5 mins. early on the second to last day. Take this time to touch base with the instructor and receive feedback on your child’s progress, then determine what level to register them in next.

A leisurely skate to music designed for adults. A great way to stay in shape.
This program is for adults, to hit the ice for some fun, non-contact hockey. Full gear required. Call 478-8384 ext 2209 to sign up. Ages 19+
Bring a friend or the whole family and enjoy an afternoon of games, prizes and on-ice fun. Our special family rate covers up to 5 family members for only $13.90
An ideal opportunity to introduce your toddler to ice skating. Parents participate with their children on the ice, playing with various equipment.
This session is a great time for skaters aged 6+ to practice their hockey skills. This session is intended for families to experience a slower paced stick and puck environment. Helmets required for all regardless of age. Children are required to come with a parent. Parents do not need to skate but will need to stay in the arena to watch the session. One side of the ice will be for soft pucks and individuals with limited gear. Children must have full gear and hockey gloves to use hard pucks. Pucks will be provided. No experience necessary. Staff will be on the ice to provide pointers. No skate assists available. Skate rentals and helmet rentals are available. 40 participants maximum.
POWERWEST ATHLETICS
We want you to be the best skater you can be! PowerWest Athletics (PWA) programs emphasize correct technical skating including stride development, agility, speed, balance, quickness and readiness through the effective use of edges.
Our programs are unique in their program format, low ratio of instructors to participants, and are known for their professional skating instruction. OUR FACILITY
The Juan de Fuca pool has a variety of features and amenities. Our pool is fully accessible for swimmers of all abilities. Equipment and amenities include:

• 8 lane 25 metre pool
• Leisure pool including lazy river and tot slide (only for sliders under 48”)
• Big blue waterslide (only for sliders over 48”)

• Handicare motorized lifts in universal changeroom, and on the pool deck (provides access to hot tub, main and leisure pool)

DROP-IN ACTIVITIES
Lane Swimming
For continuous lane swimmers. Swimming pace is identified through signage in each lane, and includes casual, slow, moderate, and fast. Water Walking is not permitted in continuous lane swimming lanes.
Water Walking
For water walking in the lane pool. Continuous lane swimming is not permitted in water walking lane.
Aquafit
Get fit in the pool! AquaFit classes are great for all fitness levels. Classes take place in the main pool, either in deep water or combo class (both deep and shallow).
Leisure Swim
Leisure time for adults and families with children. Access only to leisure pool and hot tub, no access to main pool. Age restrictions may apply.
Fun Swim
Fun for all ages! Main pool, leisure pool, hot tub, waterslide, rope swing and spray features are available.
Waterslide
You must be 48” tall to ride. Single riders only.
Youth Swim
Admission $2. All pool areas available for youth only swim for those ages 11-18. All pool areas including steam room, sauna and hot tub closed except for youth.
Adult Swim
For adults 19+ only. All pool areas are open
Child Admission Policy
All children under the age of 7 must stay within arm’s reach of an adult (16+) at all times. Maximum 3 children per adult. Children 7-9 years must have an adult in the facility during their visit.

Aqua Zumba

TRAINING & EDUCATION
Bronze Medallion
Prerequisites: Minimum 13 years old by last class or Bronze Star. Recommended swimming ability equivalent to Swim Skills 8 or higher.
Develops an understanding of lifesaving principles. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defence and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a time swim.
Bronze Cross
Prerequisites: Bronze Medallion
For lifesavers who want more advanced training. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced Lifesaving Society programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certifications.
National Lifeguard Pool Option
Prerequisites: 15 years of age by last day of program, Bronze Cross, and Standard First Aid. Develops fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness required to be a lifeguard. Worth 2 credits for Grade 12. 100% attendance is mandatory.
National Lifeguard Pool Option Recert
Prerequisites: National Lifeguard Pool option Lifeguards need to recertifiy every two years to remain current.
WSPR Swim Instructor Program
Pre-Requisite: 15 years old by the last day of the course AND Bronze Cross.
Interviews for hiring are guaranteed upon successfulcompletion of this course. For those interested in becoming a Swim Instructor with West Shore Parks & Recreation. This course plus a supervised/guided apprenticeship covers everything an instructor needs to know to teach with us.
West Shore Masters Swim Club 18 Years +
Experienced swimmers of all levels are invited to join us and improve their strokes and fitness with a program designed and led by Led by a NCCP certified coach. Members must be able to swim a minimum of 1000m in an hour and 200m continuously. Swimmers need to provide their own fins and pull buoys. This equipment will be used frequently.

Employment
The path to working at Juan de Fuca has two streams – swim instructor and lifeguard. We may hire swim instructors with a Swim Instructor certification, Standard First Aid, and Bronze Cross. To lifeguard, you must also complete the National Lifeguard program in addition to being a Swim Instructor. Those without a Swim Instructor Certification may apply, however applicants must be registered in a Swim Instructor program as a condition of employment. Please see below for an overview of requirements.

Golden Strength
This specialized small group class is for four participants ready to advance to the Weight room. With mutual encouragement and an uplifting environment, the program offers personalized guidance in strengthbased exercises using various equipment. Participants will enhance cardiovascular flow, range of motion, balance, and overall strength, boosting confidence for improved daily movements. Small Group Personal Training
This group personal training class will motivate you on your step toward a healthier lifestyle and help you achieve results. Sessions include cardiovascular training, weight machines, free weights and more for a full body, progressive workout. Work together, stay accountable and reach your goals to feel your best.
NEW! Weight Room for Beginners
Learn how to exercise safely and effectively. This class will provide an orientation to the equipment and select exercises. Become comfortable in a weight room and finish with a basic exercise program. Suitable for all levels and abilities.

Bootcamp
Bootcamp is a full body workout, cardio and strength conditioning class all wrapped into one! Class variations include athletic drills, strength and conditioning movements that will enhance your cardio, endurance, and muscular strength.
Cycle 60
A 60-minute indoor cycling class. Work through a variety of sprinting and hill climbing drills to build your cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and endurance. Work at your own intensity –suitable for all levels.
Cycle Strength
Enjoy an indoor cycling class and finish with an upper body strength workout for the ultimate balanced workout.
Indoor Cycling
Indoor Cycling classes are a great cardiovascular, no impact workout set at your own intensity. Your instructor will simulate a variety of sprinting and hill climbing drills enabling you to build your cardiovascular fitness and endurance. Classes are for all levels, beginners to advanced.
LIIT
Light up your fitness routine with Low intensity interval training (LIIT). LIIT consists of periods of low impact exercise performed in sets of intervals combined with longer periods of rest. Enjoy the benefits of cardiovascular and strength training to challenge to yourself without overtaxing your body. LIIT workout is both accessible and safe for a variety of different types of exercisers ideal for people who are older, new to exercise, or recovering from an injury.
On the Ball
A low impact, all-around fun full body class to increase your core strength, balance and flexibility. This orientation will provide 13–15-year old’s with an introduction on how to safely use a recreation centre weight room. Content will include weight room procedures, etiquette; cardio and weight training guidelines and instruction on how to use and strength training equipment.

Relaxing Yoga

This water therapy class is for people graduating from one-onone rehabilitation sessions or those who require the support and guidance of the Exercise Rehabilitation Specialist. One-hour pool exercise sessions will include individual attention and program adaptation to give the best chance for improvements in strength, fitness, and function. This class is best suited for individuals with joint replacements and chronic pain. Pre-requisite: Rehabilitation Assessment, session, and Medical Clearance.

ACCESSIBILITY IN THE POOL:
The pool deck offers three wheelchairs of various sizes that can be used by patrons in the changerooms or be pushed right into the leisure pool via the access ramp. To access the main pool we have a hand crank chair lift that lowers into the shallow end or an overhead sling lift that can lowered in the deep end. The overhead sling lift can also access the leisure pool or hot tub for those wanting to use those pools. In our universal changeroom we have two accessibility stalls with a shower, sink and toilet, that are equipped with adult size change beds as well as overhead lifts that are available to use.

Our fitness studio offers the perfect sanctuary for tailored workouts at your pace. Get your heart-rate up on a spin bike or channel your inner boxer with our flexible boxing area. With the freedom to design your routine, our studio ensures a spacious and calm fitness experience.
Accessibility equipment is essential for ensuring that all individuals, regardless of physical abilities, can engage in effective cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and flexibility exercises. Our weightroom has specialized equipment such as:
• 3 NuStep’s
• Recumbent bikes
• Upper body ergometer
• Sci Fit upper and lower body ergometer with a removable seat for wheelchair accessibility
• Raised wide platform bench to do exercises and stretches on without getting on the ground
• Resistance bands
• Cable machines with various handle attachments
The weightroom also has wide pathways in between the equipment for easy maneuverability and automatic doors to welcome you.
By incorporating these adaptive features, we create a welcoming environment that promotes fitness and well-being for everyone.
Work with our experienced and qualified Kinesiologists and Athletic Therapist with an individual session in the weightroom or pool! Individual sessions may be suitable for individuals with chronic conditions, muscle and joint pain, pre- and post surgery, and anyone wanting to improve their overall physical health.

In WSPR’s Move. Learn. Play.-based Licensed preschools, children have fun, build relationships and explore the world in which they live. Certified Early Childhood Educators who are also trained in fundamental movement and physical literacy skills incorporate basic components of physical literacy into the preschool programs. The aim is to give children the motivation, confidence and skills to be active for life.
All traditional activities including arts & crafts, storytelling, music, cooking, indoor and outdoor play are incorporated each day, utilizing the amazing 109 acre JDF site, use of the library and Indoor Sports Complex, and special activities such as dance, art, sports, yoga and skating.

$231/2.5 hour party duration.
The booking includes 2.5 hours of time inclusively and Only the 5 and Under Bouncy Castle Party includes a party host. The Birthday Party Booking Packages are based on a maximum of 20 guests.

Important information
• The party room time does not have an attendant.
• We DO NOT Supply: tablecloths, balloons, décor, food, tableware, candles, cake knives, etc.
• Parties can bring their own treats, music and decorations for their event rooms. Rental spaces do not include a fridge, kitchen, or the ability to warm items.
• Please be advised we are a nut aware facility and ask that No Nuts are brought into the spaces.
• Arriving/Leaving: There is a 10 minute window for set-up and take-down before and after your party.

Also included in the package is the playroom space perfect for little ones to sit at low tables and enjoy presents and a treat.

Music Together® is an internationally recognized music and movement program for children birth-5yrs and their parents and caregivers. Mixed-age classes provide developmentally appropriate, rich music experiences that support and respect the unique learning styles of young children. Come sing, play, laugh, dance, learn, and have fun with us! $210 fee for the first child includes: CD and digital downloads, online access to the Family Music Zone, a beautifully illustrated songbook, and a parent resource guide for new families. This program is a holding spot for children and youth requiring one on one inclusion support. By completing this process for the Spring Break Inclusion Intake Program, you are requesting your child be placed into a camp with support. This does not guarantee a spot is available in a camp. Upon completion of the intake process happening. we will contact families-based date registered as well as camps availability, camper fit, staffing availability and funding. Soccertron coaches are eager to help each young player improve their soccer skills while having fun at the same time! Horseback riding lessons are a great way to develop confidence, balance and coordination. Learn to ride on safe, well trained school horses from qualified instructors. Pencil Portraits
Learn the basics of drawing a portrait and how to achieve a startling likeness from life or photo. Course includes study of angles, distances, mapping and measuring. Learn the use of values (lights and darks) to define planes of the face.
Watercolours
Beginners will learn about materials, composition, design, colour and medium control and techniques. Experienced watercolourists will be challenged to further their skills. Each session is a paintalong demo of skies, water, snow, trees and mountains. Take home a completed painting at the end.

Ballroom Dance – your way to good health (7 options listed below)
Looking for a fun and social activity that enhances your physical, mental and emotional well-being? Look no further, ballroom dancing is the answer. Ballroom dance improves balance, coordination and strength, cognitive function, relieves stress, is an outlet to express oneself artistically and emotionally, and fosters social connection and community. It’s the ideal activity for couples to enjoy together, and a great way to meet and make new friends. As this is an activity that requires two people dancing together, please be sure to register with a partner.
Wedding Day Dancing - Don’t leave the traditional first dance, as a newly married couple, to chance. We can help you prepare for this special event. We’ll cover how to approach the floor with poise, basic step patterns, how to move as one and how to finish with flair.
Salsa - A great club dance that is fast, fun and flirtatious. Features breaks, spins & solo moves called ‘shines’ and danced to modern popular Latin music. We will start out slowly with the basic patterns and gradually increase the tempo and your repertoire.
Tango - The original and authentic Tango from Argentina. An intimate and romantic style of dancing full of drama and passion. We’ll start with the most basic of patterns and techniques so this dance is suitable for dancers of all levels, including beginners.
Nightclub Slow Dancing - Many social gatherings include music for dancing, such as weddings, office parties, holiday celebrations and cruises. When the slow, romantic love songs come on, rather than sit on the sidelines, wouldn’t it be better to get up and dance with your significant other? Nightclub Slow Dancing is a style of couples dancing that includes several easy figures making for a very relaxing and flexible style of dancing together.
Introduction to Swing - Whether you call it Jitterbug, Boogie Woogie, Swing or Jive, it’s been around for decades and is still one of the most popular, fun and enduring dances ever devised. Prior dance experience is not required. As this is an activity that requires two people dancing together, please be sure to register with a partner.
Intermediate Swing - You have learned the basics and are ready for more! Join us as we introduce a selection of new figures and variations to increase your repertoire for added interest and fun. Please be sure to register with a partner.

L.I.F.E. assists individuals and families with low incomes to access recreation services and programs at all municipal recreation centres in Greater Victoria. The L.I.F.E. Program is designed for individuals and families in the Westshore whose combined gross household income must be at or below Statistic Canada’s estimated low income thresholds for 2023.
Applications are available in person at JDF Recreation Centre and online at wspr.ca
