YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles 2023 Youth Development Summit is an opportunity for all staff who work with youth to come together to learn, collaborate, and grow. Presenters from the Los Angeles YMCA and partner Youth Development Organizations offer a variety of workshops to enhance your professional development and strengthen your impact.

WHO All youth-serving staff team members in the Los Angeles YMCA. This includes team members from the following departments: Before & After School Child Care, Preschool, Early Learning Readiness (ELR), Child Activity Center, Day Camp, Sleepaway Camp, Teen Programs, Youth Programs, Youth Sports, Aquatics & more. We expect over 500 team members to be in attendance.

ENTRY Enter from service gate at Mayflower Avenue and East 58th Street

PARKING

• School Parking Garage – free parking. Access on the Mayflower Avenue and East 58th Street.

• Please note, we have been told that the City of Maywood is allowing the YMCA to park on Mayflower Avenue without penalty or risk of being ticketed. Park on Mayflower Avenue at your own risk.

• Southeast Rio Vista YMCA at Maywood – free parking. Within walking distance (0.4 miles; 8 minute walk). Located at 4801 E 58th St, Maywood, CA 90270, behind the school campus.

TRANSPORT Carpooling is strongly encouraged: it is fun, it saves on gas and makes parking easier.

PAID TRAINING Hourly staff will be paid 5.5 hours for the training; (9:00am-3:00pm with a 30 minute unpaid meal break).

Staff may submit an Employee Expense report to be reimbursed for mileage – please speak with your supervisor for reimbursement form. Restrictions apply.

DRESS CODE Casual work appropriate. Shoes must be closed-toe and closed heel. No Crocs or sandals. Some workshops are interactive, so dress comfortably and wear comfortable shoes for walking. Jeans are okay as long as they are appropriate. You will be provided with an event tshirt at the start of the Summit that you can wear during the day if you wish. The Summit tshirt is black with purple lettering – sizes available from Small to 3XL.

MEALS/SNACKS Light refreshments will be available in the morning. Bring your own coffee (we apologize, but coffee will not be provided). Lunch and bottled water will be provided. We encourage you to bring your own water bottle (there are water bottle filler stations throughout the school)

EXTRA EVENT We will have an optional networking mixer/after party from 3:00pm-4:00pm for staff interested in staying. There will be light appetizers available during the networking mixer/after party. This is an optional event that is unpaid.

RESTROOMS • There will be students on campus during the event.

• Only MaCES students may use the student restrooms. YMCA staff team members, guests, volunteers and presenters MAY NOT use student restrooms.

• Restrooms are located here: the front of the school in the MPR and on the first floor of the main buildings, in the OFFICES located between classrooms 3-104 and 3-110; 4-104 and 4-110; and 5-104 and 5-110.

Registration Instructions

Workshops will be available in three sessions. All sessions will be 50 mins. Each workshop is intended to be interactive, providing opportunities for discussion, information sharing and hands on experience. Workshop categories include:

• Child and Youth Growth and Development

• Family, School, & Community Relationships

• Healthy Eating & Physical Activity

• Interactions with Children & Youth

• Learning Environment & Curriculum

• Youth Engagement

Each workshop has limited space available. We regret that we cannot accommodate requests for workshop changes. Please consider collaborating with your team members to attend a variety of workshops and share knowledge gained with one another.
