Learning Outcomes:

Encourage young children to explore science early by observing, predicting, and seeking evidence by experimenting. Preschoolers learn best by playing and doing. Provide them opportunities to investigate their natural world. Build on existing foundations and connect STEM concepts in a variety of core subject areas across domains using the physical science of light and shadows as an example.

Build knowledge, skills, and confidence in early science learning experiences for children and families. Learn how to help children explore the relationship between actions and outcomes and make age-appropriate connections to their experiences. Prepare an environment that provides opportunities for children to think like a scientist.

Relationships are the heart and soul of the Y. As our relationships grow stronger, so too do our programs and our community impact. One of the best ways to deepen relationships at the Y is through volunteerism, which benefits all involved. This workshop explores the role that each of us plays in elevating and encouraging social responsibility by giving of our time and talents.

• Understand volunteerism in our Y’s history and future.

• Learn the benefits of volunteerism – both for the individual and our Y.

• Discuss current and potential volunteer opportunities in my program.

• Practice basic volunteer engagement. Overall: Embrace volunteerism as a foundational element of our social responsibility and organizational commitment to strengthen community!

Every day you put your dedication and time to the many wonderful programs you lead, but the success of the programs has everything to do with the youth being excited about them. This training goes over the various techniques to help with engagement and advertisements into the programs you offer. We will discuss how to advertise the programs and keep your kids coming back for more! This training will also explore what makes a great program leader and how you can utilize your unique skills and characteristics to engage youth into the programs you lead!

GOING ON A FIRST DATE WITH YOURSELF – A SELF-EXPLORATION OF MENTAL HEALTH, CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP

Learning Outcomes:

Culture is embodied in the ordinary things we do – how we speak, greet parents, organize a meeting, or provide a service. When important belief systems are breached, providers run the risk of offending a family, even when that is not the intent. Come and learn strategies that are effective for building collaboration with families through a DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) lens.

Many youths suffer from emotional challenges and mental health miss information. They are provided with education, creative technicalities, and a place to explore themselves but a lot need more without access to therapy, emotional support and emotional education. In my workshop, we will explore how can creatively writing help with mental health, Addiction and Trauma by using a few unique creative writing exercises.

This workshop covers the fundamental skills of ball hockey and gives coaches pointers on what to keep an eye out for when coaching ball hockey.
