A CROISSANT?
MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT
How to measure a Croissant? By scaming and photocopying the croissant, a twodimensional orthographical profile of crossiant could be created without beeing scaled. After we got the plan view and elevations of the crossiant, we are able to convert these 2D photographs of croissant into a 3D drawings by lining and rendering with the orthographical perspective. In this process, we measured the 3 sections of croissant with grids of 10*10 grids to make sure the accuracy and changed between a range of H and B pencils to present the depth, shades and shadows formed in the object.

World: 27-13 NEW MARIO WORLD
The making of new Mario world. At the beginning of creating the Mario world, I attempted to combine the two seperate level together with some interactions between the two levles, then I add the steps and coulds to explore the spaces out of the refrence pictures. And after deciding without giving the world a clear boundry and break out the limitation of the paper, I added the waterfalls which seems endless and extend the space to a unkonwn hidden space. Then in the secod sketch of my mario world, I pushed the interaction between the two levels further, I added river, which running from the top of mountains down to the clouds, which also enhance the visual effect and the fancy of my mario world’s theme. In the final stage, after I put the linework into AI, I shifted my focus to the decorations and a series of characters and elements to express the theme better. Such as the floating steps, bubbles, golden coins, plants from the original world and marios bros. I also engaged in emphasising the 3D feeling of my world by adding many triangulars to show the depth of the column’s top and indicated the distance by adjusting the scale of objects as well.

PAPER LANDSCAPE
The making of new landscape The teritorry of my lanscape was captured from the map of Chinese western plateau. The Rhino panelling tool allows to apply the selected patterns spread across the surface. And a series of attractor points and curves provide a wide range of methods to adjust the positions and styles of patterns in the surface. After rebuiltig the topographical up and down field into paper model with the unrolled single sections which were processed and edited in Rhino, with dividing the whole surface into many single but consistent triangualr surfaces, The 2D to 3D process proved to be successful.

2D custom pattern. In this process I tried different patterns such as some multiple patterns and very simple patterns like square and circle, at last I use the flake pattern as the pattern of my landscape’s surface, since I think it could refelcted the fluctuation and the topography of my landscape better.
Display of the 3D pattern. This is the stage at which I designed for a 3D pattern flow for the landscape. I tried to use different pattern arrangement method for a better effect, such as the attactor curve, attrctor point in the middle of the surface or along one side for a better effect.
The 3 basic units of my 3D landscape . My basic concept is to arrange 3 elements with different level of openess. The first one is a solid pyramid-like block. The second one is a fully uncovered trapezoid. And the third one is given the flexibility to open or close, which enables the apperance of the apperance of territory physically changed and also add the interavtiveness of this

work with users and viewers
The 2D pattern is designed with the inspiration from the Chinese traditional paper cut technique, it enhanced the transperancy of surface and the contrast between the flat and raised parts. The 3D patterns were comprised by 3 different single parts, which includes one solid pyramid, one fully opend trapezoid object and the second one wich is a cube with triangle cap. These 3 units comprise an adjustable 3D pattern system in the surface.
Final effect of my lanscape. This is the final effect of my landscape. As seen from the picture, the hollowed-out design not only makes it looks delicate and exquisite but also enhance the up and down topography of

INVISIBLE CITY
CITY & DESIRES 2 Anastasia Anastasia is a very hustling metropolis as it been described by Carlvino, dramatically visual appealing. Considering that, I spent efforts to avoid limiting the view into a very narrow and fully interior space. In the first view, Marco sitted down in the first level on the opposite shore, and he could see everything happening in the most reprsentative central area of Anastasia. He could also see the ongoing feast holded by arabic millionaries and merchants, the gondolas hugging the shore and kites flying in the sky in this view. The second view is mainly presents the senario in the second floor which is to the opposite of the first view. In this view, Marco came to the other side of the canal, Peoples are busy cuttering gems. This capturing angle is directly related to the first one. And this change of view indicates the track of Marco’s movements. Similar to the first one, this view provides a much boader and open view. The difference is that when Marco standing at this floor, he could have a better view of the entire city. And we could also experience the prosperity of Anastasia better.

When Mao Polo just arrived Anastasia in the late night, the candles on the wall almost burnt out. However, the night life in this surreal and opulent city was just began. there was a grand feast holded by the merchants and millionaries in this city. People were gather and having a very delighful conversation. The clothes and accessories they wear looked expensive.Beautiful waitress brought golden pheasant which was cooked over the fire of seasonal cherry woods. There was a large table with a wide variety of cuisiens. Gondolas were already pulled inshore, But the merchant ship was just leaving offshore. Macro felt the city was extremely attractive.

In the second day, Macro ferried across to the opposite bank. He went up to the second floor, which is totally different with yesterday. In this floor, people are from a lower class. They are busy cuttering the gems and the kitchen where the pheasnats were cooked looed in a huge mess. Two dogs were scrambling for the rest parts of dead pheasant. Although the room filled with beautiful jewels and the blazed piles of golden coin stacked in the table. macro felt sad to see this huge metropolis and its people stuck in the apathy. They were just the slavery of money and their life were totally controlled by the capitalist.

Module 1 In this module, we experieced a basic process of converting a 3D object in the real life to a flat 2D drawing. We learned about some basic photoshop editing techniques and architectrual sketching skills. I think this module is a very interesting start for some one like me who has no foundamental knowledge of designing and representing the artwork. I also get a lot benifits in the studio where tutor taught us many things about how to pin up and show us how to sketch and draw.
13
Module 2 I love Mario World! I’ve never thought that there would be so much creative thing than what we’ve done in this module. Even if everyone got the reference pictures looked almost same, the outcome works really shocked me at the end. I really like every work I saw in the final exhibition. And in this module we’ve given an insight into the axonometric drawing and also explored the functions of Adobe illustrators. We experienced the workflow which combined the digital techniques and traditional handdrawing together. Also tried to find a balance between them for getting the best effect in the shortest time.

REFLECTION Module 3 I feel like this is the most challenging module in the whole semester. Most of us started to use Rhino without any backup knowlege. And because of the public holiday, we were not able to discuss about some problems we encountered with tutors and classmates. As for me, I spent a long time in just wasting time in trying irrelevant stuffs in Rhino. However although it was unfortunately proved that nothing to do with the paper modelling, I still felt this exploring process helped me a lot to better commond the Rhino and felt more confident. In this model, I got to understand the process of how the modern architectures come out with the use of 3D modelling techiniques and panelling techniques.

REFLECTION
Module 4 This module provides us a large space to think, read, collect information and absolutely create ! In this module our knowledge of softwares got updated once again. And we were not required to follow many principles and finished some obvious tasks steps by steps any more but to form a coherent narrative and concept in our mind, then combined them together and presented them in a limited space. I felt that I did experienced many times to change directions. And during the whole process, I acquired many precious experiences to present my ideas in reality and try to build up an understanding between my work and the audiences. 16
