WITH MZI “ZEE” DEMPERS OF “BELOW DECK MEDITERRANEAN” By Barb Oates Capt. Sandy Yawn is back at the helm for Season 7 of Below Deck Mediterranean, which airs Mondays on Bravo (new episodes drop one week early on Peacock). Joining her crew for another season is fan favorite Mzi “Zee” Dempers. Despite being held up in quarantine, Zee is back as a deckhand on a new boat and new charter along the Malta coast, helping manage character guests, dealing with roller-coaster “boatmances” and having to decide what is most important: old friend allegiances or his career growth. We caught up with him while on break at his South Africa home. What is the best perk about being on the show and just having a yachting career in general? The best sort of perk about being within yachting is you get to travel the world; you get to experience different cultures and meet different people. And I think to me personally, I’ve always placed learning about other people as one of my main priorities in education. So that sort of education, you won’t get it in school and it really helps you grow as a person. That’s what’s been super, super beautiful, just in terms of seeing the places that you never thought you’d be able to see and experience the different cultures that you never thought you’d be able to experience. What was the most difficult part of this season? One of the most difficult things was adjusting to a new crew, just because obviously last year we had such an amazing relationship and such an amazing team — minus here and there. So I think you place everything sort of on a pedestal going into it in terms of what you’ve experienced before. Obviously, some things are never going to be exactly the same. And just getting into that sort of groove of things, I think, was probably one of the more difficult parts.

When you’re not working on a charter, what do you do in your off time? For the past couple of months, I’ve been back in Cape Town, starting courses and sort of trying to get back into going overseas, as I’m doing that next month. Downtime is hanging with friends, playing some golf and just taking life for what it is and appreciating where you are right now. Being at home really is special to me. 2

Capt. Sandy always stresses the safety aspects of her guests and the boat. Are there ever moments where you’re scared? Yeah, there definitely were moments where I was scared, but not in terms of the onus of responsibility, but just the actual boat itself. There were lots of difficulties with the boat this season. It was a new build and very electronic. So yeah, a lot of issues.

A Great Month For Stargazing On T CM By Jeff Pfeiffer

Summer Under the Stars (SUTS), Turner Classic Movies’ annual August programming favorite, returns this month, with the network again devoting each of the 31 days to films from a particular actor or actress. It begins Aug. 1 with a 12-movie salute to Elvis Presley, which is appropriate, given that this month marks the 45th anniversary of the King’s untimely passing (he died Aug. 16, 1977, at age 42). August also marks the 60th anniversary of the all-too-soon loss of another timeless star: Marilyn Monroe, who died at age 36 on Aug. 4, 1962. SUTS will honor the icon on Aug. 27. Over the course of the month, seven stars will be spotlighted in SUTS celebrations for the first time. Below are this year’s SUTS first-timers, along with movies making their TCM debuts during this celebration. Be sure to also check the adjacent calendar to find out which star is featured each day.

Maureen O’Sullivan (Aug. 8) — This familiar face from Hollywood’s golden age finally gets her due on SUTS with a 14-film celebration. Of course, there will be a couple of titles with the Irish actress in her most famous role, as Jane Parker alongside Johnny Weissmuller’s Tarzan in Tarzan the Ape Man (1932) and Tarzan and His Mate (1934). Also included are later works featuring O’Sullivan, like Woody Allen’s 1986 comedy/drama Hannah and Her Sisters. Laurence Harvey (Aug. 11) — Born Zvi Mosheh Skikne in Lithuania, British actor Laurence Harvey had only about a 25-year big-screen career before his death at age 45 in 1973, but in that time, he gave some memorable film performances. You’ll see 12 of them during his first SUTS celebration in a lineup that includes Room at the Top, the 1959 drama that earned him a Best Actor Oscar nomination; the iconic 1962 Cold War thriller The Manchurian Candidate; and more. Raquel Welch (Aug. 16) — The breathtaking beauty and talent of Jo Raquel Tejada — better known as Raquel Welch — will be on full display when she gets her first SUTS daylong celebration of films. Among the 12 titles are One Million Years B.C., the 1966 prehistoric adventure that made Welch a pinup favorite thanks to her legendary deerskin bikini, and the witty swashbucklers The Three Musketeers (1973) and The Four Musketeers (1974). Jacqueline Bisset (Aug. 24) — The lovely and talented British star makes her SUTS debut with a day featuring 12 of her movies, including the Steve McQueen-led action classic Bullitt (1968); The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972), the Western starring Paul Newman; and The Deep (1977), an adventure film about underwater treasure hunters costarring Nick Nolte and Robert Shaw. Gilbert Roland (Aug. 25) — When Mexican-born Luis Antonio Dámaso de Alonso came to Hollywood in his late teens and began appearing in silent films, he chose his screen name — Gilbert Roland — by combining the names of his favorite actors, John Gilbert and Ruth Roland. He became a silver screen star himself, and gets his first SUTS salute this month, with a 14-movie lineup that includes 1952’s The Bad and the Beautiful, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. 4

Other First-Timers Ruth Roman (Aug. 4) Jack Carson (Aug. 30)

SUTS: FirstTime Films (TCM Premieres) Aug. 3 (Sidney Poitier): Uptown Saturday Night (1974) Aug. 5 (Orson Welles): Get to Know Your Rabbit (1972) Aug. 16 (Raquel Welch): Flareup (1969); Hannie Caulder (1972); 100 Rifles (1969) Aug. 18 (Shelley Winters): Meet Danny Wilson (1952) Aug. 19 (Toshiro Mifune): Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo (1970) Aug. 21 (Clint Eastwood): The Gauntlet (1977) Aug. 24 (Jacqueline Bisset): The Spiral Staircase (1975); St. Ives (1976); Believe in Me (1971); The Grasshopper (1970) Aug. 25 (Gilbert Roland): Beauty and the Bandit (1946); Robin Hood of Monterey (1947) Aug. 31 (Peter Sellers): The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu (1980)

A QUICK RUNDOWN OF WHAT’S NEW, WHAT’S RETURNING AND JUST WHAT TO WATCH THIS MONTH

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON NEW SERIES!

The dragons! That silver hair! Those piercing eyes and that pale, pale skin mark the return of House Targaryen in this eagerly awaited prequel story to Game of Thrones, which ran eight seasons on HBO from 2011 to 2019. And along with the Targaryens come other familiar names — Stark, Baratheon — who pledge to be faithful to King Viserys Targaryen as he names his heir. But some say men would sooner set the realm to a torch than see a 6

woman — and in this case King Viserys’ daughter Rhaenyra — ascend to the most powerful seat of Westeros, that of the Iron Throne. Who will be in the inevitable fight for the throne is yet to be fully known, but expect an ugly battle. The 10-episode prequel is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, and is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, telling the story of House Targaryen, the family that reigned for several centuries. As we know, history does not remember blood, it remembers names, so here we break down the key characters. Premieres on HBO Sundays beginning Aug. 21

T H E

P L A Y E R S

King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) Chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, who was Jaehaerys Targaryen. Viserys is a warm, kind and decent man, who only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings.

Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) Younger brother to King Viserys and heir to the throne. A peerless warrior and a dragonrider, Daemon possesses the true blood of the dragon. But it is said that whenever a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin in the air …

Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) The king’s firstborn child, she is of pure Valyrian blood, and she is a dragonrider. Many would say that Rhaenyra was born with everything … but she was not born a man.

Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans)

House of the Dragon: Credit: H BO

The Hand of the King, Ser Otto loyally and faithfully serves both his king and his realm. As the Hand sees it, the greatest threat to the realm is the king’s brother, Daemon, and his position as heir to the throne.

Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) The daughter of Otto Hightower and the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms. She was raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his innermost circle; she possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen.

Lord Corlys Velaryon, “The Sea Snake” (Steve Toussaint)

Lord of House Velaryon, a Valyrian bloodline as old as House Targaryen. As “The Sea Snake,” the most famed nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros, Lord Corlys built his house into a powerful seat that is even richer than the Lannisters and that claims the largest navy in the world.

Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best)

A dragonrider and wife to Lord Corlys Velaryon, “The Queen Who Never Was” was passed over as heir to the throne at the Great Council because the realm favored her cousin, Viserys, simply for being male.

Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel)

Of Dornish descent, the common-born son of the steward to the Lord of Blackhaven. Cole has no claim to land or titles; all he has to his name is his honor and his preternatural skill with a sword.

Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno)

Came to Westeros with nothing, sold more times than she can recall. She could have wilted … but instead she rose to become the most trusted — and most unlikely — ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne.

Rob McElhenne Ryan Reynolds

NEW SERIES!

In 2020, Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) formed The R.R. McReynolds Company and purchased the fifth-tier English soccer club Wrexham AFC. The duo had no knowledge of sports team ownership, leading many to wonder if this was a joke. A character in the comedy Ted Lasso — in which Jason Sudeikis plays a hapless American college football coach hired to manage an English soccer club — wondered the same thing in a Season 2 episode. Reynolds and McElhenney responded with a tongue-in-cheek cease and desist order. Actually, they’re quite serious about their team, its supporters and its community. Viewers can follow along every step of their effort to turn Wrexham around in the new FX documentary series Welcome to Wrexham. Actor/writer Humphrey Ker (American Auto, Mythic Quest) is an integral part of the club’s operation, serving on the team’s board of directors and working closely with the owners. He gave us an insider’s peek into the world of Wrexham and the TV series: 8

You’re executive director of the Wrexham Football Club. What do your duties entail? Humphrey Ker: The way I have come to describe it is that I translate Hollywood into football and football into Hollywood. By day, I’m an actor and writer based in Los Angeles. I’m from the U.K. originally, but I’ve been over here for about 10 years. I liaison between Rob and Ryan, and between Fleur Robinson our CEO, and Shaun Harvey our strategic adviser to the board, and act as essentially a translator between those two elements. What do Rob and Ryan want and need from the club? What are the club’s wants and needs from Rob and Ryan? And how best to maximize the success of everything we’re trying to do. What was the state of Wrexham before Rob and Ryan bought it? Historically, Wrexham is one of the great clubs of English football insofar as they’re the third oldest professional football team in the world. And we had a great history of huge crowds and some success, and they’ve won the Welsh Cup 23 times and all sorts of things to be very proud of. But over the last 15-20 years, the club has really declined in a big way and has suffered under the ownership of a few groups of people who were less interested in the success of the football clubs than they were in trying to squeeze as much money out

WELCOME TO WREXHAM

August of it as they possibly could. At the point in which we took over, Wrexham was in pretty dire straits, to be honest. The fans had saved the club from some of these unscrupulous owners, but they just didn’t really have the resources to make the club particularly competitive. What we’ve tried to do, and what I hope people will see over the course of the first season — however many seasons we do of the show — that one of our big objectives has been to try and return that competitiveness to Wrexham Football Club. Was there some skepticism among Wrexham supporters and the community when Rob and Ryan purchased the team? Fans of Wrexham Football Club have been, from the jump, really welcoming to us and really excited by the stewardship of Rob and Ryan. And they’ve always been incredibly friendly to me. I think lots of fans of other clubs wanted it to be more suspicious than it was. There’s a fair bit of jealousy, I think, around the rest of the football league, because there’s lots of foreign owners of English football clubs. It’s become a very popular place for people to lose money, because that’s what you do when you own a football club. People have become used to seeing foreign owners, but I think what we’re not really used to is having foreign owners who are massively popular already, and ones that have shown as much passion and interest and love for the football club as these two have.

Welcome to Wrexham: © 2022, FX Networks.

What did you think of Ted Lasso’s joke about Ryan and Rob buying Wrexham? Well, funny enough, I believe that reference was inserted thanks to a friend of my wife’s. My wife, Megan Ganz, was a writer on Modern Family for a long time. Bill Wrubel, who was a writer there, is also a writer on Ted Lasso. So we were forewarned of the reference. Often when people first hear about this or talk to us, they’re like, “Oh, it’s just like Ted

Lasso. Are you Ted Lasso? How does this work?” It’s been an interesting experience to kind of have that blow up around the same time that we are doing this, because it’s given a lot of people a reference point that they maybe wouldn’t have had previously. How much of a cultural or language barrier is there with Wrexham being a Welsh football club? We are very proudly a bilingual club, very proudly a Welsh club. As people see when they watch the show, there’s a lot of signage in Welsh and we make our announcements to the games in Welsh and English. It’s something that we know our fans take a great deal of pride in. I think Wales and England have a traditionally rocky relationship. We are all part of Great Britain, but the English invaded Wales in the 1300s and the Welsh have not forgotten about it. They remain ticked off about the English invaders. Luckily, my mom’s Welsh, so I’m always able to break that out anytime anyone takes umbrage with my Englishness. Rob has made a real effort to learn Welsh, and Ryan has had his films subtitled in Welsh. Our relationship with local council and the Welsh government and all that stuff has been really strong because they see our arrival as a massive opportunity, just as we see our arrival to help drive principles and programs and things that promote Welsh culture and help with the promotion of Wrexham and Wales as wider entities. Are Americans still allowed to call it soccer? Certainly! As long as it’s not the gridiron football that people are talking about, that’s all we care about. It can be soccer, it can be football, it can be pêl-droed, which is Welsh for football. There’s any number of things. — Ryan A. Berenz Premieres on FX Wednesdays beginning Aug. 24

CHESAPEAKE SHORES SEASON PREMIERE!

“No more breakup bangs,” Meghan Ory says with a laugh. The actress, who’s played practical divorcée and mother of two Abby O’Brien-Winters since Chesapeake Shores’ 2016 debut, knows the show’s diehard fans, called “Chessies,” will be excited to hear it. After spending time getting over love Trace (Jesse Metcalfe), Abby is ready to move on in the series’ sixth and final season. In last October’s cliffhanger, she left a voicemail message saying, “I think maybe we should give us a try” for one of the two men hoping to date her next. Was it kindhearted teacher Jay (Greyston Holt) or playful billionaire Evan (Robert Buckley)? “You find out who she called pretty quickly,” Ory offers coyly. “Finally making the decision is her choice to trust herself, go with her heart and take a leap of faith.” Regardless of her pick, Abby will still be in business with Evan as O’Brien Construction & Development Group builds his hotel. “They continue to get under each other’s skin. That hasn’t gone away,” Ory says. Also constant is the O’Brien family drama. Connor (Andrew Francis), Abby’s lawyer brother, suffered a heart attack in the Season 5 finale.

KILLER ’90S Oh, the horror! This month ID revisits four of the most headline-making cases of the 1990s. Airing Sundays throughout the month, each special will provide a fresh look at controversial and heartbreaking cases that dominated the news throughout the ’90s. The series begins 10

His prognosis looks good, but the event shakes up the workaholic’s world. “It could be the wake-up call he needed to change some things,” Ory teases. Their devoted dad Mick (Treat Williams), meanwhile, is still popping painkillers after his near-death crash landing of his plane. “The accident shook him up more than he [thought it would],” Ory hints, adding that we’ll see a different side of both Mick and Abby’s brother-in-law, David (Carlo Marks), whose own father is on the run from multiple fraud charges. Abby’s writer sister Bree (Emilie Ullerup) grows closer with ex-con Luke (Stephen Huszar), and her firefighter brother Kevin (Brendan Penny) navigates marriage post-miscarriage. With only 10 episodes left, Ory promises a satisfying conclusion that is “everything that you would hope for and nothing that you would expect.” But she isn’t ruling out a spinoff, pitching us Mandrake (Wesley Salter) for Evan’s fanfavorite chauffeur/sidekick. “They end up living together in a studio apartment because Evan loses all his money,” she says. “I took it upon myself to come up with every version possible!” — Jim Halterman Premieres on HALLMARK CHANNEL Sundays beginning Aug. 14

NEW SERIES!

“Lions don’t lose sleep over the opinion of sheep,” says one of the competitors on USA Network’s thrilling new series that features some of our favorite stars from Survivor, Big Brother and Naked and Afraid. In each episode, four strangers are dropped into the rugged Central American jungle for 36 hours, where they are left to work together to win $100,000. The problem is that one of them is a snake — a saboteur working against the team. Players compete in a series of grueling and mind-twisting challenges, from retrieving game pieces suspended on high wires over a 500-foot canyon to scaling the face of a cliff to solve puzzles. If successful, the competitors win a clue that helps reveal the identity of the Snake. Clearly, the Snake doesn’t want that to happen, so he/she tries to thwart each mission. Taking some cues from TV juggernaut Survivor, each episode ends with a tribal-like forum where competitors meet in the “Snake Pit” to decide who they think the saboteur is. If the team catches the Snake, they split the cash. If the Snake fools them, he or she takes home all of the money. TV personality Bobby Bones is host of the series. Two episodes feature somewhat of an all-star cast, with Survivor’s Malcolm, Yul and Earl working with Naked and Afraid’s Jeff in one episode, and Big Brother’s Rachel and Jenelle competing with Survivor’s Stephenie and Cirie in another. The other reality celebs are mixed in with other contestants over the series’ eight-episode run. Here is a rundown of the reality stars competing. Premieres on USA NETWORK Mondays beginning Aug. 1

THE BOLEYNS: A SCANDALOUS FAMILY

LEONARDO NEW SERIES!

Leonardo da Vinci was vegetarian long before it was in fashion. He also found himself playing a central role in quite a few murders that involved poisoning, and experienced his fair share of legal trouble. That is according to Leonardo, the eight-episode drama exploring the secrets and genius of da Vinci (Aidan Turner). Set against the backdrop of Renaissance Italy (and filmed in Rome), the series dives into da Vinci’s life, work and personal struggles while showcasing how he develops into an unparalleled genius and renowned polymath whose work overturned the established order. The series is positioned as a murder/mystery. Each episode is bookended with Stefano Giraldi (executive producer Freddie Highmore) questioning various people, including da Vinci, about the death of Caterina da 12

Cremona (Matilda De Angelis), a close friend of the artist. In between are flashbacks, beginning in Florence before moving to Milan, that trace da Vinci’s work as an apprentice, painter and sculptor, among other things. In addition Matilda De Angelis, Freddie Highmore and to murder, there is plenty of Aidan Turner intrigue, romance, betrayal and politics to keep things interesting. The scenery is striking and there are many spectacles to admire, including Leonardo’s attempt to impress Ludovico Sforza (James D’Arcy), Milanese nobility, with a lavish performance that is interrupted with a public execution. — Paul Doro Premieres on THE CW Tuesdays beginning Aug. 16

The Boleyns: A Scandalous Family: Credit: PBS

This three-part series from the BBC is a compelling period drama/historical documentary hybrid that combines reenactments and interviews with leading experts to tell the story of Britain’s famed Boleyn family. Narrated by actress Shelley Conn, the series focuses on the clan’s peak during the Tudor era when they rapidly reached prominence after Anne Boleyn (portrayed in the reenactments by Rafaëlle Cohen), daughter of ambitious Thomas Boleyn (Max Dowler), became the second wife and queen consort of Henry VIII — and mother to the future Queen Elizabeth I — in 1533. But the family just as quickly fell from power only three years later when Henry had Anne executed. “There’s a thin line between great ambition and lunacy,” Gareth Russell, one of the historians featured in The Boleyns, told the Daily Mail in an interview ahead of the series’ premiere in Britain last year. “To understand Anne’s rise and fall you need to know about her powerhungry family. They’re an extraordinary example of hubris and pain.” The series chronicles that rise and fall, a story of love, sex and betrayal that is told from the family’s unique perspective. Premieres on PBS Sundays beginning Aug. 28

August HISTORY’S CRAZY RICH ANCIENTS

NEW SERIES!

This enlightening new series gives a nod to the hit movie Crazy Rich Asians in its title and theme, but History takes the concept of wealth and turns back the clock, looking at the lavish lifestyles of some of the world’s most mega-moneyed icons. From the foods they ate to the parties they had and the palaces they built, it’s one jaw-dropping story after another. Here we look at some of the themes Premieres on HISTORY Sundays and individuals explored this season.

DANGEROUS GAME

The prized possessions of some of history’s richest people haven’t been castles, jewels or fine art. Meet the monarchs and millionaires who spent their fortunes collecting wild animals. Kublai Khan (1215-1294) This fierce 13th century warlord conquered all of China and almost all of Asia, and it’s quite possible that no one in history has owned more dogs. William Randolph Hearst (1863-1951) The early 20th century media mogul built a multimillion-dollar estate on the California coast that doubled as the world’s largest private zoo and wildlife preserve that included giraffes, chimpanzees and Bengal tigers. Moctezuma II (1466-1520) This powerful Aztec ruler of the early 16th century had an entourage that included multiple wives, concubines, bodyguards and not one, but four menageries? These animal exhibitions were filled with every type of creature in the known world.

Josip Tito

MAXIMUM SECURITY

When you’ve got a lot of stuff that’s worth a lot of money, you need to protect it. These three figures broke the bank on security features designed to prevent break-ins. Ikeda Terumasa (1565-1613) This Japanese warlord loaded his castle with so many booby traps that it could double as a Bond villain’s lair. Centuries later it did, making a cameo in You Only Live Twice. Rana Kumbha (reigned from 14331468) He’s the man behind the Great Wall of India, one of the largest fort complexes in the world. Running one lap around this stronghold would basically equal a marathon. Josip Tito (1892-1980) No one could ride out the apocalypse in more style than this former president of Yugoslavia, who built a nuclear fallout shelter with so many amenities, it could have doubled as a luxury hotel.

Louis XIV

UNREAL ESTATES

These rich ancients built palaces that are literally some of the largest, most luxurious buildings to ever grace the surface of the Earth. Nero (37-68) The Roman emperor named his palace “Domus Aurea”; in Latin, that literally means Golden House. It includes history’s largest lawn ornament: a 120-foot-tall bronze statue of the emperor. Louis XIV (1638-1715) In addition to needing a staff of up to 10,000, the French king transformed a sleepy little hunting lodge into one of Europe’s largest palaces: Versailles. Rome’s ancient architectural marvel is the fascinating subject of one of History’s newer series, which made its debut last month. The series uses the Colosseum as the backdrop to a thrilling story on the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, through the lens of the men and women who fought and died there. While most of us know the Hollywood versions of these Roman stories via blockbusters like Gladiator and Spartacus, here we learn everything from how emperors used this amphitheater to demonstrate their power to the people who built and fought in it. Premieres on HISTORY Sundays 13

CHILDREN OF THE UNDERGROUND NEW SERIES!

In the late 1980s, Faye Yager saw that the family court system was failing to protect children from abuse by their legal guardians. Putting lives ahead of the law, Yager helped start a secret network to hide victims from an abusive parent or partner. The organization, which became known as Children of the Underground, effectively relocated victims and aided them in changing their identities. As Yager’s vigilantism became publicized, the FBI took note and began investigating the group’s work. Yager was also the target of numerous lawsuits, most notably from banking pioneer Bipin Shah, who offered a $2 million reward to anyone who could track down his ex-wife and two daughters. FX’s five-part docuseries Children of the Underground looks back at Yager’s network to unravel its complicated history and the dark side of a group that circumvented the law to protect the vulnerable. All five episodes premiere back-to-back on Aug. 12. Premieres on FX Friday, Aug. 12

FINAL EPISODES!

LITTLE DEMON NEW SERIES!

When a show’s description starts with “Thirteen years after being impregnated by Satan,” you know you’re in for a wild ride. FXX’s animated comedy Little Demon is often bizarre, iconoclastic, disturbing and a hell of a lot of fun. Laura (voice of Aubrey Plaza) was a wild Wiccan who hooked up with Lucifer himself (voice of Danny DeVito) and gave birth to the Antichrist, a daughter named Chrissy (voice of Lucy DeVito, Danny’s daughter). Since then, Laura has traveled around the country in an effort to keep Chrissy away from her dad, but the arrival of adolescence gives Chrissy some serious supernatural powers that can’t be kept under wraps. Satan — who is trying to be the cool, fun dad — wants Chrissy to join him and unite the metaphysical realms into a powerful, lawless universe for eternity ... or maybe just every other weekend. “It’s the part he was meant to play, I think!” Lucy DeVito says of her dad providing the voice of Satan. “It’s hysterically funny casting. In real life, my dad’s like the nicest, sweetest guy ever and the best dad, but he likes the dark, @#$%ed-up characters.” So does Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty), who’s an executive producer on Little Demon. “We wink at Rick and Morty, too, and uber-fans of that show,” DeVito says. “He’s definitely an inspiration, and the writers have taken a lot of guidance from him.” The voice cast also features Eugene Cordero, Lennon Parham and Michael Shannon. Guest voices in Season 1 include Mel Brooks, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Pamela Adlon, Rhea Perlman, Patrick Wilson, Dave Bautista, Lamorne Morris and Sam Richardson. — Ryan A. Berenz Premieres on FXX Thursdays beginning Aug. 25

Immediately following Better Call Saul’s all-important penultimate episode (Aug. 8), Talking Dead’s Chris Hardwick hosts a one-off aftershow — Talking Saul — to break down the big moments (should we be worried?!) and prepare us for the Aug. 15 series finale. While Better Call Saul was the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, Saul’s (Bob Odenkirk) story has taken us to so many unexpected emotional heights as we watched small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill turn into a man who puts the “criminal” in “criminal attorney.” We’re going to miss you, Saul Goodman! Premieres on AMC Mondays Bob Odenkirk

PASSWORD NEW SERIES!

Since its original incarnation that ran from 1961-67, and continuing through a 1971-75 revival and ensuing offshoots (like Password Plus, Super Password and Million Dollar Password) that have aired across subsequent decades, Password has been one of television’s most beloved and iconic game shows. The game’s simple format — a celebrity player and a contestant each try to convey mystery words to each other using only single-word clues (that are not the answer word itself) — has been part of the appeal. Notable hosts and guest stars have also been part of the fun over the years, particularly original host Allen Ludden and his wife, Betty White, who was a frequent face on the show as a celebrity contestant in dozens of episodes between 1961-75. NBC is bringing Password back in a new version hosted by actress Keke Palmer that kicks off with a two-night premiere event Aug. 9 and 10. There will also be new episodes Tuesday and Wednesday Aug. 1616

17, before the series settles into its Tuesday-only slot starting Aug. 23. Jimmy Fallon, who introduced new generations of fans to the classic game on both Late Night and The Tonight Show, is an executive producer and one member of the two celebrity/contestant duos who will face off in two games during each of the eight hourlong episodes to win cash prizes. The premiere features Fallon and Jon Hamm competing; other celebrity guests will include Yvette Nicole Brown, Tony Hale, Chelsea Handler, Heidi Klum, Joel McHale, Chrissy Metz, Martin Short, J.B. Smoove and Meghan Trainor. The initial season will also feature legacy contestants from 1980s versions of the game show. Befitting White’s longtime legacy as Password’s greatest player, the premiere of this revival will be dedicated to the legend, who passed away late last year. The initial season will conclude with a special episode featuring an all-celebrity lineup playing for charity. Premieres on NBC Tuesdays-Wednesdays beginning Aug. 9-10
