Perfect Score On Monday, November 23rd, the Campbell River Men’s Bowling League was expecting a normal evening of bowling, good company, and some laughs. Instead, they experienced the making of Campbell River sports history. A perfect 300 point score by seasoned bowler, Shane Konkle. This is actually Shane’s 4th perfect game, adding to his Canadian national team event bronze medal from his years of bowling in Ontario. Shane also won awards

last year for 1st place in the BC provincial Men’s Doubles and Mixed Teams hosted here in the newly upgraded Campbell River Bowling Centre. Owner, Ian Fong, picked up the ball in 2013 and came out of retirement to manage the centre himself. A passionate long term bowler, Ian was sure that Campbell River and surrounding area could support a bowling centre if they had a great one. Ian invested over one million dollars in upgrades, new lanes, new equipment, new floors, new kitchen, and he is not done. Other bowlers like Shane will start to get the results from dedicated bowling with the right materials and well maintained lanes. Bowlers are always needed and welcomed for all 5 and 10 pin leagues.

Trends

A look at the new colours, styles, and ideas influencing brides of 2016.

COLOURS

While wedding will always have a special spot for beautiful blush, we are seeing more and more brides incorporate rich colours, jewels and metalics into their celebrations. From soft rose and greys to deep plums and blues to amp up the elegance. — From 2016's top 16 wedding colours, our favourites were:

RINGS The timeless beauty of Antique Engagement Rings still in and particularly suited to those looking for something out of the ordinary. Coloured centre Stones, the undeniable queen of the engagement ring, the trend will continue with some brides opting for coloured stones instead of diamonds. Mixed Metals have become a classic, especially featuring a halo mounting and centre stone. Moissanite Rings continue to trend as the more affordable diamond and the source of intense interest. Moissanite dances with sparkles of bright light, its

unique internal beauty lends a riveting allure to jewelry, making a spectacular statement at a fraction of the cost. With a refractive index of 2.69, it is one of the hardest materials on Earth and exhibits more brilliance than diamond and makes a grand statement of opulence. For men. Rough diamonds with asymmetrical shapes, are the gemstone of choice for rings, gemstones to add a bit of bling but without looking to ‘gangsta’. Black diamonds are popular used as a cluster or as a large centre stone and gold rings with bling are the front runner for 2016.

DRESSES

Anything and everything is fair game this year, brides are having fun with their gowns. Classic whites and ivory’s and often strapless have stood the test of time and aren’t going away anytime soon, however there is plenty of bridal inspiration in unlikely places. Dresses are super modern but very feminine, colours, florals and nude designs with plunging necklines, deep backs inspired by the Spanish and heavy beading that harkens back to the opulence of Downton Abbey will appear for 2016.

Let us help your wedding be spectacular! Our talented designers specialize in the creation of amazing floral arrangements to match your personality, taste and budget. Talk to one of our in-store floral wedding specialists today! Customer Care: 1 800 667 8280 • thriftyfoods.com

GROOMS

Opulent and masculine style trends feature lots of dark, muted tones, luxe fabrics and classic fits, leading away from the super-skinny pants. Pattern is key, with sophisticated jacquard pattern adorning suits or just the lapels for those who want only a hint of detail. Rustic and vintage trends in tweeds, with old-world style that screams gentleman with enviable waistcoats, pocket watches and bowties. The traditional trinity of the men’s jewelry arsenal - watches, wedding bands and cufflinks - is no longer a confine as the old standards have to jostle for attention with statement pieces, bracelets and unusual gemstones. Bracelets used in stacked expression - mixing different pieces or layering multiples of the same piece, from chunky to thin that bring a relaxed note to corporate attire or hint at the personality laying beyond a suit’s sharp tailoring.

FLOWERS

Some common threads that have been coming together for 2016 are seasonal blooms, with a foraged, wild, woodland aesthetic: Locally-grown, seasonal flowers continue to top the wish list of style-savvy and eco-conscious couples. The farm-to-to table, hard and soft centrepieces continues to be popular. Wild, woodland-inspired bouquets with lush ferns, greens and foraged branches, are frequently requested.

TIPS

A few words of wisdom from some of the recently wed.

Beth: Make sure someone is bringing plenty of water for the bridal party.. I totally forgot about water, and no one suggested it to me... If you're going to spend a lot on your wedding, make sure you get a good photographer to capture it. Laugh a lot, there is no bad’s really when your getting married. Laura: I saw a lot of articles saying that this is YOUR special day, make it exactly how YOU want it... But my husband and I decided to plan our wedding four our guests and family. Then, the week before the wedding I spent my time getting little things that could be special for mine and my husband's experience. I bought the little things I thought I could do without. These last minute indulgent decisions ended up being so special to me and easy to decide on because I knew all the most important stuff was taken care of.

Danny & Beth Bryant Married July 11th, 2015

Laura & Mike Dodd Married July 18th, 2015

Bogdan & Tedi Bezna Married October 24th, 2015

Alexandra: Be prepared! Have on hand things like an emergency kit, sewing kit, safety pins, fast acting glue, and oh my yes deodorant for all that dancing. Make up remover wipes was also very helpful to remove all the lipstick from congratulation kisses. Save the best for last, so bring a change of clothes and shoes and dance the night away. Tedi: Pick the top 3 things that are important to you and your fiance, and put your effort and money there. For me, it was giving our guests amazing food and drink, capturing our day in photo and video, and having my husband and I look awesome on our wedding day. Things like invitations, flowers, and favours took up less of our time and budget when we realized they just weren't that important to us! These tips have been edited by Benny McGrath.

Why Stress Management Coaching? Information provided in the following article is for educational purposes only and does not in any way or form substitute for medical and/or therapeutic advice. Do you know what your signs of stress are? Early warning signal examples could range from irritability, jaw or neck tension, sinking feelings, reaching for the chocolate or snacks, feeling discouraged or helpless etc….The danger lies in not catching those early warning signs and recognizing them for what they are! According to some statistics: *Stress may substantially undermine work productivity. (Industrial Society Survey) *60-80% of physician visits may be stress related. (US Public Health Survey) Stress impacts our physical, mental and spiritual health. It reduces our ability to think clearly and it can negatively impact our relationships. We often try to avoid unpleasant

feelings, overwhelm, and stress as this may seem to get us through a difficult day. However, this can quickly turn into a destructive habit which in reality increases our stress in the long run. Our feelings show us who we are - and when we avoid looking at what we feel, when we try to undermine our experiences, we literally eliminate the ability to learn what our feelings are telling us. When we allow for our feelings to be noticed and look at them without judgement, we not only learn from them but we also find that we are able to move forward. Stress Management Coaching provides for a proactive and solution focused approach. It can help you to design ways toward healthy changes that create lasting achievements! Learning about the many different approaches to reduce and minimise stress, and how to implement those strategies in daily situations, can give you options and allows for healthier choices. This year make space for YOU. “If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath.” Amit Ray, Om Chanting and Meditation Warmly, Gabriela Eikeland DN www.womynspathofhealing.com
