The Mercury Players, a local community theatre group that has been around since 1999, are putting on Anatomy of Gray by Jim Leonard Jr, a charming play, a fable for adults, a fascinating story of loss, love and tolerance.

It is set in the late 19th century in rural Indiana and describes what happens after a “doctor” crash lands his hot air balloon in Gray, Indiana and sets up shop there. The local population is initially very happy with his arrival, but then disaster strikes. It is funny, it is sad, it is uplifting... you’ll love it! The play is written for adults, but it is family-friendly - children 6 and older would enjoy it. Performed by a well-cast, enthusiastic troupe of 11 local actors, actresses and singers at the Mercury Theatre on 331 Brae Road in Duncan and directed by Rien Vesseur.

Community theatre in the Cowichan Valley is riding on a wave of popularity and so there are many opportunities for people to participate, be it as actors, set builders, lighting and sound operators or in the organisation of events. The Mercury Players are a very inclusive, welcoming, eclectic group of theatre enthusiasts. They put on about 3-4 shows a year, organise Play Reading nights (every 2nd and 4th Wednesday at 7:30 and Improve Nights (every 5th Wednesday at 7:00). Feel free to contact them if you would like to take part in any of these activities.

SHOW DATES: March 8, 9 and 10 at 7:30 pm, March 11 at 2:00 pm, March 16 and 17 at 7:30 pm and March 18 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are 20.00 dollars, 15.00 for students and seniors, and are available from Ten Old Books in the Duncan Garage, the First Chiropractic Clinic on the Canada Highway and online: www.anatomyofgray.eventbrite.ca Any questions?
