Shansen Art Susie Hansen is a local artist born and raised on beautiful Cortes Island, where her family has lived for five generations. Susie's westcoast art styles are influenced by her life- her love of hiking, and the ocean that has surrounded her all her life. In 2007 Susie moved to Campbell River. In 2013 Susie and her husband built a studio which houses not just her art but a collage of relics and pieces of Cortes history such as the window frames and the stair bannister from her grandfather’s shop. When Susie registered her business as “Shansen Art” her vision was to have a studio that could be shared and extended with other creative and artistic endeavours. “People that want to share a space, whether it be scrap booking, pottery, sculpting, it can be a place that will inspire and teach”, Susie says. You can find her art in local galleries on Vancouver Island; Impressions Gallery in Campbell River, and other exhibits around Campbell River and Quadra Island. Contact: susie-art@hotmail.ca or phone 240-203-3359.

appreciation for remote wild places, and the importance of connection to our natural world. Hilgemann is inspired by the ever-changing light and landscape, and often paints “pleinair” watercolours on location. In her studio she uses a variety of media including watercolour, acrylic and encaustic. In 2012 Judy and family moved to Campbell River where she has spent more time exploring abstraction within realism, such as patterns within rock formations, and reflections in moving water. A solo show of her work is on now at the Chemanius Theatre Gallery until July 18th. More of her work can be seen in the Campbell RIver Art Gallery Giftshop and online at www.judyhilgemann.com
