Elk Falls Suspension Bridge Opening May 9 The Elk Falls suspension bridge project that began five years ago, along with an allaccess viewing platform, has reached its glorious completion. The official opening is set for May 9th at 10 am where Campbell River Rotary, dignitaries and residents will celebrate the newest attraction to Campbell River’s already world class arena. Championed by The Rotary Club of Campbell River and the vision of Rotarian Lorrie David Bewza, this project’s success was due to the hard work and entrusted support of hundreds of specialists and tradesmen, the financial support of Campbell River businesses, BC Parks, BC Hydro, and the Island Coastal Economic Trust in bringing this magnificent project to the beautiful parklands of Campbell River. With an estimated cash value of over $2 million, the bridge will generate between $2.5 million and $5 million annually for the local economy. The suspension bridge is 80 metres long and hangs 65 metres above

the Campbell River canyon floor offering a top to bottom view of Elk Falls. It is capable of holding up to 120,000 pounds and gives you incredible views of Elk Falls and the headwaters of the world famous Campbell River. The bridge is bridled with two viewing platforms and a very impressive cantilevered platform that greets every visitor with a thrilling extension over the falls. Fencing and expansion of the existing trail system gives safe and direct access to the falls. There are two main access parking lots to the trail. The new large upper parking lot that houses the John Hart Interpretive Centre directly off the Gold River Highway (Hwy 28), from here the walk to the falls is 1.4 kms. For closer access the lower existing parking lot is just a 200 yard walk. Congratulations to all those that contributed, and to the ongoing vision and drive of Rotarians Written by Cathy Kaardal.

Mayor and Rotarian Andy Ada ms and Rotary President Lorrie Bewza.

Playground to Golf Course When you teach your children to golf, you'll also be teaching them lessons about life. Not only will they learn patience and good manners, but they'll also need to learn about concentration and discipline if they wish to improve. It's a game you can play from the time you're able to hold a club until the day your arms no longer let you swing. Some senior citizens still like to play golf because it's a great way for them to stay active, which sets it apart from other popular sports like football or hockey. By teaching your kids to golf, you're introducing them to a sport they may be able to play for the rest of the lives.

completely more often than they actually hit it, but with practice and patience, those wasted strokes will become a thing of the past. On top of all that, golf is a great way to stay healthy. Walking a nine-hole course and carrying your bag can burn hundreds of calories.

A great benefit of teaching your child to golf is the opportunity to do something fun together, not many other sports or activities provide the opportunity for such a wonderful bonding between children and parents as well as children to grandparents. Golf may help instill honesty in your child. The game relies heavily on the honor system because no one will keep track of your strokes except you, and your party likely won't follow you into the rough to make sure you don't adjust the lie of your ball. You won't regret introducing this concept to your kids at an early age. With a lot of mainstream sports, once you get to a certain age your finished or its just too difficult to keep going. Like many sports, golf can improve your child's discipline, teaching that practice pays off. At first, they may swing the club and miss the ball
