health The Power of Habit
One paper published by a Duke University researcher in 2006 found that more than 40 percent of our actions performed each day weren't actually based on decision making, but habits. Essentially, what this means is that at some point we consciously decided on doing or saying something, then we stopped thinking about it so the action became automatic. Our habitual way of doing things becomes familiar, it feels safe because we know what to expect - as long as our habits keep us in familiar territory we keep going with it even if the habits are self-sabotaging and unhealthy.
It is this feeling of familiarity and safety within a habit that makes self-sabotaging habits so difficult to break. The first step in changing a habit is awareness; becoming aware enough of the behaviour that you catch yourself before you do it. Ask yourself, for example, under what circumstances a certain habit seems predominant and what clues can you pay attention to. Setting up a remindering system, such as programming a daily reminder into your phone or computer, guided reflections of your day etc... These can play an important part of making a change. To Your Success.

A biologist, a chemist, and a statistician are out hunting. The biologist shoots at a deer and misses five feet to the left. The chemist takes a shot and misses five feet to the right. The statistician yells, “We got ‘em!” A guy asks a lawyer what his fee is. “I charge $250 for three questions,” the lawyer says. “That’s awfully steep, isn’t it?” the guy asks. “Yes,” the lawyer replies, “Now what’s your final question?”
