A lawyer was reading a wealthy man’s will to the people mentioned in it. “To my wife Claire, who stood by me through the rough times as well as the good, I leave you the house, the cars and $5 million.” The lawyer continued, “To my daughter Sarah, who took care of me during my illness and kept my company going, I leave you the yacht, the business and $2 million.” The lawyer concluded, “And, to my cousin Phil, who always hated me, argued with me, was envious of me, and thought I would never mention him in my will ... well, you’re wrong. ‘Hi, Phil!’”

health Reactive vs Responsive Emotions control our thinking, behaviour and actions, and they also greatly affect our physical bodies. If we ignore, dismiss, or repress our emotions, we are setting ourselves up for unbalanced physical and emotional conditions. At the same time, emotional reactivity plays into physical and emotional imbalance The trick is to learn to be responsive to situations rather than reactive. We can learn how to be with our emotions, living peacefully with them, and we can learn to release the emotions that don’t benefit our well-being without hurting ourselves and others. It is important to be honest about the emotions we are experiencing; in other words – own your emotions and bring them into your conscious awareness. Take a deep breath and , instead of asking “why” ( why is this happening to me...., why is this person making me feel so...., etc), ask “how” the situation can be re-directed toward a more positive outcome (or ask “what” can be done). “How” and “What” keep you solution focused and responsive. “Why” has the potential to keep you problem focused and reactive. Is it time to buy in Campbell River?
T
here is no better time to buy real estate than now! The latest Multiple Listing Service (MLS) statistics show that residential sales in Campbell River are up 55% from this time last year, and house prices have remained stable for the same time period. Buyers typically want to get the best deal when buying property, and with the increase in housing sales and the stability in pricing, we are likely at the bottom of the market right now. “Although we have seen significant month-over-month increases in both unit sales and average pricing in most of our markets this month, when looking at these numbers on a longer term basis, we are still seeing a gradual upward trend indicative of a more balanced and stable market,” said VIREB president, Gary Gray. “We are encouraged that we have continued to experience slow and steady growth since the second quarter, and anticipate that consumer confidence will continue to increase leading into next year,” he stated. This is all leading to a potential shift from a Buyers’ Market into a Sellers’ Market over the next few years. And with the sudden increase of development projects in Campbell River, the influx of new residents, both homeowners and renters will bring a great deal of interest to this area over the next year or two. There are still some real estate markets that are stronger than others. For example, smaller ranchers for investors and first-time homebuyers has been the strongest market this year. But as the number of listings dwindles, and the number of new residents increases, other family home and higher end markets, as well as strata developments will also follow. For more information about the current real estate market, contact Don Corder, ReMax Check Realty, at dcorder@remax.net or (250) 202-1407.
Polio still cripples many of the children around the world. With your help, we can wipe this disease off the face of the earth forever. Visit rotary.org/endpolio to help. END POLIO NOW

very year in October, local Thrifty Foods stores in BC run a “Pumpkins for Charity” campaign, in which $1 from every pumpkin purchased is donated to local Hospital Foundations.
This year’s campaign begins on Wednesday October 16th and continues until Wednesday October 31, 2013. “Pumpkins for Charity" is a joint effort between our customers and Thrifty Foods stores on Vancouver Island, Saltspring Island and the Lower Mainland. “Our customers buy pumpkins from us because they know their purchase supports a worthwhile cause,”
