Behind Thrifty Foods, there are great people People that work together as individuals on the job and in their community. Tom Morgan is just one of those people. In 2003 with the enthusiasm of Thrifty Foods, Tom Morgan got together with his cousin Tom Hergt and friend Don Clarke to start a golf tournament that would help in fundraising for the Tour De Rock fight against cancer. What started as a small event with just a handful of golfers, in the first year, has now developed into one of the islands most successful fundraising tournaments, raising over $250K over the last 10 years, now a sold out event every year. Tom and his cousin with the help of sponsors such as Vancouver Island Insurance, Chan, Nowsad and Boates, Scotty MacLaren, and of course Thrifty Foods, worked tirelessly to organize and get the event to where it is today.
In 2005 Tom’s mother passed away from cancer, and for Tom that need to find a cure for cancer became very real, and became the catalyst that spurred him to create a tournament that would make a difference for cancer victims. Campbell River says Thanks TOM you Rock !!

health What is Yoga Nidra Meditation? Both modern psychology and Yogic philosophy recognize three kinds of tension: muscular, emotional and mental. Each of these may be progressively released through the regular practise of Yoga Nidra - a meditative practise for deep relaxation. This sacred process of meditation can be practised for various reasons such as overcome anxiety, fear and anger, insomnia and stress, and has the potential to bring an incredible calmness and clarity and is one of the deepest of all meditations. In this fast paced world of high external tension, this ancient practise can provide for a welcome antidote to stress. A variety of techniques—including guided imagery, body scanning, and opposite awareness (warm/cold, light/ heavy, relaxed/tense..etc…) – are used during this form of meditation.
A most exquisite meditation experience and effective tool toward stress reduction, if practised regularly, Yoga Nidra is also a very powerful transformational tool that may be practised gradually and diligently or in matter of a few moments. Essentially, it is a highly individualized practise and it is important that you experiment with your practise to make it your own as the depth of this meditation comes from inner awareness. This inner exploring through self-awareness is a refined form of meditation that leads you deeper into your own being.

New Indoor Equestrian Arena for Campbell River Balance Equestrian Centre is a culmination of many years of hard work, dedication, training and schooling. When Wanda and I met 20 (or more!) years ago while in the Vancouver Pony Club, we never would have dreamed of being in Campbell River, offering riding lessons, horse boarding and farm education! We are so excited to offer hunter/jumper and dressage lessons to all ages and abilities. And to think we have 2 rings- one huge outdoor ring with a full jump course and an indoor arena for those dreary West Coast days and long winter nights. Perhaps even more exciting is the prospect of offering therapeutic horsemanship, including riding and ground work. We have an absolutely amazing group of “helpers” that surround us. My husband, Dave will provide business advice and heavy lifting . As well, we have so many parents and riders that gather to muck, paint, volunteer at various community events and just generally provide willing help at a moments notice. We are so thankful and truly look forward to welcoming the community to our new facility. We have something for everyone. Lessons, training, boarding, day camps (including Pro-D days, winter and spring breaks), horse shows, farm visits, birthday parties and pony rides. Susan Gosnell Owner
