Vancouver. AFB Productions was started indirectly from the influence of the Munson Family, so all the more fitting that our biggest show to date be in their honor, featuring fine fidelity audio provided by Fireboy Sights and Sounds, with ground shaking bass to keep you dancing all night! March 16th AFB Productions (and partners)
17 pays tributes to these pioneers of the electronic dance scene, by hosting a Dance night powered by Munson Family Talent. With nearly all the Munsons in attendance, this night boasts, collectively, over 100 years of DJ experience, a rare booking anywhere. The lineup boasts Munson family brothers Geo, Old Man Dave & Diabolical Paul (as duo ‘grumpy old men’), Sleepy, and Johnny Waffelz. These DJ’s have been thick as thieves for over 20 years, and much of the north island bass tribe will be able to recount memories and tales of times they danced to their music. March 16th will be another night to add to that list. Come dance under the lights, feel the music, and make some memories. The Munson Family Values appear at TheMex, March 16, starting at 10pm.

Celtic Music for Everyone... by The Black Swan Fiddlers
Started as a learning and training venue for young violin students, the Black Swan Fiddlers has taken on an organic life while still helping young, local talent. The main focus of the Black Swan Fiddlers is Celtic Music. It is the folk music primarily of Ireland and Scotland with a spoonful of traditional Canadian and French Canadian tunes. Traditional music is essentially dance music so the emphasis is on jigs, polkas and reels with a strong beat. In the cultures where this music is popular it
is played in the kitchen, the pub, the parish hall , and the recreation centre. It was always a participatory art form. The Black Swan Fiddlers main aim is to carry on the tradition of providing quality music in local settings bringing people together to celebrate weddings, birthdays, funerals and life in general. It is all about building community. For the musicians, learning and playing Celtic music is like having a treasure

A cop stops a man for running a stop sign and the subject gives the cop a lot of grief explaining that he did stop. After several minutes, the cop explained to the gentleman that he didn’t stop, he just slowed down a little. The gentleman said “Stop or slow down, what’s the difference?” The cop opened the mans door and told him to stick his leg out, then started smashing the door on his leg and then said, “Would you like for me to stop or just slow down?”

Live Jam with KC Hingley The Thursday Night Open Mic at the Flying Canoe is the newest showcase for the vibrant and talented musicians in the Comox Valley and beyond. Every Thursday from 9pm11pm K.C. Hingley hosts this unique evening which is more than “just another jam night.” Every musician of all genres is welcome to come out and sign up for a spot to show their stuff. In addition, most weeks there is a feature performer who plays a 30 minute
set from 9:30-10. These feature performers are sometimes established talent trying out new material and sometimes they are up and comers topping a bill for the first time. On the first Thursday of every month, in lieu of a feature performance, host K.C. pays tribute to a musical icon and covers a selection of their recorded material. So no matter which week you show up there will always be something interesting and unique to see. There are also great Happy Hour food and beverage specials available at the bar. To find out more information or to sign up for the open mic or as a feature performer, contact K.C. on Facebook @canoeopenmic or visit facebook. com/canoeopenmic KC photo by Craig Carson.

Fresh, Handmade Goodness Returns After a six month break, Manager and Chef Kevin Frisch has returned to Toscano's with his signature Fresh Handmade Goodness. Once again, you can savour the passion of Italian cuisine applied to the local foods and wines of Vancouver Island. What makes Italian cuisine special? Like so much about Italy, it is the emphasis on hyper local. One third the size of BC, Italy has 21 distinct wine regions and corresponding micro food cultures. Small wonder that this is the birthplace of the modern “slow food movement.” Slow food. The exquisite experience of enjoying local foods and local wines with friends and family. At Toscano's Mediterranean Grill you can enjoy a particularly Italian dining experience here in the Comox Valley. Founded on a love affair with the wines and cuisine of Tuscany, Chef Kevin applies the Italian culinary approach to the terroir and food of Vancouver Island. Everything is made from scratch by hand including all our pastas and sauces. Even the meat is butchered inhouse. Chef Kevin follows the Italian tradition of sourcing local food for several reasons. One is environmental: we have the greatest positive environmental impact by choosing local food and transportation. Toscano’s chooses local because it is healthier for our community and our planet. Second, we become part of a sustainable local food economy. Third, we play a part in growing a responsive and responsible community as we develop relationships with local producers. Finally, we share the Italian passion for local, primarily because of taste. Fresh, local food simply tastes better. Free-range animals and organically grown vegetables are more nutritious. At Toscano’s we are happy to know that good taste follows good community, economic, and environmental practices. Drop in for an exquisite Italian experience filled with the flavours of home grown Vancouver Island.
