A New Future for Your Island Kitchen Depot Familiar faces head up the new Your Island Kitchen Depot, now located on 12th Avenue, next to Miracle Vacuum. Priscilla Wood and Kathy Gellerman long term employees of the previously owned Restaurant supplies, have picked up the baton to bring back the much needed service to Campbell River and north island. Wanting to carry on the legacy of the successful family business Kathy and Priscilla are retaining most of the inventory and services with the edition

of a few more. Kathy explained that over the years they have made so many relationships within the community and with businesses. Helping new businesses get started then watching them succeed is very rewarding, people rely on the store for solutions and product quickly. We want the community to know that Your Kitchen Depot is for everyone, it isn’t just for restaurants or businesses. That is why the word ‘YOUR’ is the first word in our name, we want people to understand that we can help with their event, home entertainment, or just baking for special occasion or season. Cake decorating items, disposable party

goods and janitorial on top of high quality kitchen supplies are at your fingertips and we deliver. One of the new things you will see from YOUR Kitchen Depot is regular fundraising and programs to support groups such as the Food Bank. We also have a community board that we invite everyone to share their news on. Ask about their new coffee and janitorial service for your office, you will never run out of TP again. Kathy and Priscilla are looking forward to seeing all their regular customers and look forward to meeting new friends.

Few bands that came out of the Canadian pop-rock scene in the 80s had the same level of international impact as Glass Tiger, with songs like “Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone)” and “Someday” always coming to mind as part of the soundtrack to growing up in the era of big hair and shoulder pads. The boys from Newmarket, Ontario are celebrating 31 years together as a band, with three of the four members being founding members from back in the Tokyo days—before changing their name to Glass Tiger. With a new album, aptly titled 31 featuring reimagined versions of their old hit songs plus a couple of new ones thrown in for good measure, Glass Tiger are back in the saddle and riding throughout the Island in early November, starting in

Campbell River on Nov. 6, Duncan Nov. 7, Nanaimo Nov. 9, Victoria Nov. 10. “We are really looking forward to being back on the island,” says keyboardist Same Reid. “It’s one of the most beautiful places to be.” Glass Tiger first played on the Island back in 1986 in Victoria, and in the later days explored the other communities on tour. About four years ago they did another run of theatre shows and played many of the same venues they will be performing at on this tour.

Some folks may have caught them as special guests on tour with Johnny Reid recently, where they gave their reworks a light test drive on a few audiences, and received a warm reception. Reid actually recorded and produced their new album in Toronto and Nashville, as well as co-wrote one of the new tracks. “The studio in Nashville belongs to Johnny, and is an old

17

retrofitted barn [...] We actually slept upstairs there in what used to be the old hayloft.” says Sam Reid. Also appearing on the album are Julian Lennon, Alan Doyle, Véronic DiCaire, Susan Aglukark, and David R. Maracle. An impressive part of the album is that nearly every song is in its original key, with Alan Frew still nailing all his vocal parts. The only song to have any major key

change is “Diamond Sun” which goes from the key of G to B♭ simply to give it a different feel. Traditional acoustic instruments act as the standout difference from the original recordings, giving the album a more adultcontemporary feel, and almost growing with their audience. Definitely expect a mix of original and modern versions of their songs on this tour. Before they hit the Eastern and Western Canadian legs of the tour, they are really excited to play the Rockingham Festival in Nottingham, England, where they haven’t played for 25

years. “That set will be all the original electric versions of the songs,” says Sam Reid. Regardless of where you catch them this tour, you will find that Glass Tiger has matured along with their music, but every element that made them Canadian icons is still very much there.
