Tis the Season… …for cardigans, winter coats and SWEATER COATS. The cooler the days the more layers. Especially for women that are at the age of hot and cold fluctuations to body temperature. A sweater coat offers a little more structure, a classic look, and when a winter coat may not be necessary a cardigan slouch coat paired with short boots is all the rate this fall/winter. It feels like being wrapped in a warm blanket. This fall/winter many styles are left open with no closure for a more flowy feminine look. Pair a sweater coat with a mock or turtleneck and this year the full cowl neck and pull the whole outfit together. Pair camisole and slacks for a dressier look or wear something black under a sweater coat for a more sophisticated look. A long sweater looks fantastic with tricoated look. A long sweater looks fantastic with your favourite boyfriend jean and runners and with the HOLIDAYS arriving shortly finish off your holiday dress by adding warmth and structure to your look. The

This Christmas may find you a new PC under the tree or you may be the one giving one away to a loved one. Whenever you boot up a new PC you will of course note all the benefits and advanced technologies that are part of your new toy. You may also notice however that it is way slower than you thought a new PC should be. The reason for its slow speed is that It will be full of the manufacturer’s ads and other configurations that affect its overall speed. It must be set up properly and only then can you enjoy the speed you expect in your new PC. An added benefit to bringing your PC to Bitrate is that while it’s being sped up Steve can transfer all your data from the old machine to the new one and then wipe the drives of the old PC (if you wish of course). This is important if you want to put it up for sale or dispose of. With the drives wiped you can rest well knowing

Fitness tip Before starting an exercise program, it is essential to plan and set achievable goals. Always start with small goals, build gradually, and keep going! Try to make it a habit to visualize yourself achieving your goals. Do yourself a favour and don’t try to lose 10 pounds in an unreasonably short period of time. It’s not uncommon for beginners to overwork their bodies on the first day of exercise. Try to do a little more each day but don’t spend hours at the gym or you’re putting yourself at a higher risk for injury. Stay hydrated, eat a balanced diet, warm up before exercise and cool down afterwards. These are all important considerations to be kept in mind when starting an exercise program. Stay focused and keep organized, track your progress and work hard. Year-End Tax Planning…Are There Opportunities To Reduce Your 2019 Tax Bill?
As year-end approaches, taking some time to review your financial affairs may yield significant tax savings. To ensure that you leave no stone unturned, you may wish to consider some common year-end tax planning strategies including: • Tax Loss Selling – selling securities at a loss to offset capital gains realized during the year; • Capital Gains Deferral – in certain circumstances, you may wish to defer the realization of capital gains until the 2020 tax year; • Year-End Bonus Planning – if you will be receiving a year-end bonus, consider if deferring it to 2020 would be beneficial; • Charitable Donations – consider making a donation to a registered charity before the December 31st deadline; • Consider making a contribution to your RRSP, TFSA or RESP. Speak with your qualified tax advisor to determine if these or other strategies are suitable for you. For a complimentary copy of the publication 2019 Year-End Tax Planning contact Sandra today. Drawing from decades of experience in educating Canadians on wealth planning, Sandra provides her clients with clarity, insight and partnership. Celebrate the season with the 13th annual
Yellowpoint Christmas Spectacular!
Show creator Katy-Bowen Roberts
Show creator, Katy Bowen-Roberts began her musical career as a young student in Nanaimo. She spent hours at the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music perfecting her skills as well as taking voice and piano lessons with Nanaimo’s Sharon Wishart. She ventured over to the mainland to pursue her singing education in the UBC Opera program. From UBC it was onto London, England where she performed as a professional singer. It was
here that she was inspired to create this well know Vancouver Island holiday favorite. “During the holidays in England, the most popular shows are pantomimes and spectaculars” says Katy. “There are multiple large scale productions throughout the country and I had the privilege of being cast in one of these Christmas Spectaculars. Although most of us lived year round in London, at the end of October, we were all taken out into the countryside to a theatre of over 1500 seats.
Amid a cast of 100 performers including singers, dancers, bagpipers, a comedian and an organist, I performed more than 94 shows. It was wonderful and exhausting!” Katy continued “I was hired for three seasons and during my 3rd season, I began to dream of creating my own mini Christmas
Spectacular for my community back home. I spent hours brainstorming with my friends and colleagues and at the end of the season, I made a big decision to move back to Canada. Once settled back on the Island, I set to work creating. With no money to get it off the ground, I found ways to convince friends and family to support this unknown entity. I will be eternally grateful to the people who supported me at the start and believed I could make this dream a reality”. In August of this year, Katy put over 10,000 tickets on sale between the three current venues. She hired a cast of 18 professional performers, creators and crew, and she set to work marketing and creating the 13th annual show. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would still be going 13 years later. It’s been a dream come true,” says Katy. The cast will take you through the eras with a variety of dance styles from tap to broadway, ballet and jazz. This year’s show includes musical medleys of well known songs by Billy Joel, Gloria Estefan, Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin, a nostalgic war time set, a Broadway medley of Singin’ in the Rain songs, music from Amelie, Bing Crosby’s classic ‘White Christmas’ as well as many more classical hits and Christmas favourites. Tickets are on sale and selling at all three venues. The production runs in Courtenay at the Sid Williams Theatre (Dec 9 & 10), in Victoria at the McPherson Playhouse (Dec 14 & 15) and in Nanaimo at the Port Theatre (Dec 17 – 22). Book now so you don’t miss this holiday tradition. For tickets to the Port Theatre in Nanaimo, call 250.754.8550 or visit www.yellowpointchristmasspectacular.ca for more info.

Unikkaaqtuat Unikkaaqtuat is a multidisciplinary production led by Artcirq, Les 7 doigts de la main and Taqqut Productions. Inspired by Inuit founding myths, this unprecedented creation will celebrate Inuit culture, its traditions and vision for the future, through a hybrid, collaborative and mutually respectful creative process. In an atmosphere shaped by video projections and a world of shadows, actors, live musicians and acrobats will transport the audience to an ancient world when life had not known death, days had not seen light, and where Inuit had not met white people. Until…
Unikkaaqtuat is set to highlight the talents of Inuit artists at a national and international scale and foster a unique environment for cross-cultural collaboration to flourish within and beyond the project. The show is designed to travel the world on main stages, as well as on a smaller scale to reach northern communities. Shaped by a culturally diversified cast of 11 circus artists, musicians, and similarly distinct designers and technicians, the show will blend circus arts, music, theatre and video in a groundbreaking 90-minute performance.

DEC 20 Amazing Anatomy: Come learn about
Island Inkjet, Laser Toner and Engraving Business Spotlight:
Most people know about the high cost of new replacement ink jet and laser toner printer cartridges when purchased from the manufacturer. Island Inkjet & Laser toners offers cost savings upwards of 50% when compared to the costs of buying new ink and toners. We have been in business in Woodgrove Centre Mall for over 18 years. In that time, we have refilled thousands of ink cartridges and replaced thousands of laser toner cartridges. What our customers say about us: “The best products and superior customer service, thanks Amber!” “Owner & staff are very happy to oblige to the point of personally bringing an item down to Port Place from their sister store at Woodgrove... you need only ask. “Island Inkjet stocks a generic ink for those cartridges that cannot be refilled and charge 50% less than manufacturer brands. My old Epson Workforce doesn’t mind it all.” “Kevin has always been our “go to” guy for new ink - always fast and friendly - highly recommend!” Please don’t be a stranger! Stop by anytime and say hello!
Kevin: Business owner Amber: Engraving manager
The key to our success: refilling each cartridge with a unique ink formulation specifically matched to each cartridge. This ensures good
quality backed by a one hundred percent satisfaction guarantee! Business owner, Kevin Lohneis, has even more to be thankful for as a result of this business. 5 years ago, an advertising representative came by to suggest a new look for his ad campaign. As it turned out sparks flew and one year later, Kevin and his ad rep were engaged and in 2016 were married! In July of 2019, Things Engraved in Woodgrove Centre closed their door after over 20 years. Kevin, saw the need for engraving in Nanaimo and realized how engraving would complement his existing services. In August, Island Ink Jet was fortunate to be able to take over the engraving services previously provided by Things Engraved and, voila, Island Ink Jet and Engraving was born. This new service allows us to engrave metals, wood, plastic and glass. We can engrave business logos on nearly any item. We have a wonderful selection of gifts for any occasion – from Zippos, Flasks, Pet Tags, Baby and Wedding Gifts! Or you may bring in your own items and ideas and we will make them into cherished mementos. We feel blessed and very fortunate to have thrived in this space and are so lucky to have the support of the good people of Nanaimo. Thank you, Nanaimo! When you see me, or my engraving manager Amber please give us a wave or say hello anytime.
