Oven Wizards Testimonials

Just had our double oven cleaned by Paul, so very pleased with my oven, looks brand new! Would not hesitate in recommending Oven Wizards. Denise Gerrard-Glass. (Hastings) We are so delighted with the oven clean that you did for us today, it is absolutely fantastic. Thank you for working so hard to achieve the results. Dr Blair (Eastbourne) Compared with other oven cleaning companies I have used in the past Paul went the extra mile when cleaning my oven. He stripped out the racks, back panel and fan and also removed and split the oven door to clean the dirty glass that I could not get to. I will definitely recommend the service to my friends. PROPERTY Valuation Options By Kate Lovering, Polecat properties. Following on from last month’s edition; valuing your property, you are well within your rights to get as many different valuations as you want. Valuing a property is not an exact science so there will be variations of the values you receive. Tempting as it is, I would advise to not simply opt for the highest valuation, it is not outside the realms of possibility that an agent will inflate the value with the aim of flattering you into instructing them. However due to the internet, the market is now so transparent that the value is dictated by the market as opposed to a very convincing salesperson. If your property appears overpriced it could end up stagnating on the market resulting in a price reduction and buyers whom are suspicious of a property they perceive as difficult to sell. You could end up having to accept a lower offer than you would of done had your property been priced appropriately in the first instance. Most online agents do offer a valuation service similar to that of a high street agent. They will come and look at your house and then present a valuation based on the comparative method by using similar properties and adjusting the value accordingly depending on location, additional features and house condition. However, and I think this is where the big difference lies, when you opt for a high street agent, the decision while based on location also depends on the types of property they have already sold. For example you would not instruct an agent to sell a country farmhouse if they normally sell town centre flats. With an online agent there are not these apparent differentials. Admittedly the online agencies claim that a ‘local property expert’ will be assigned to your property but how local is local? What type of property expert are they? I would not dare to presume I am an expert on every segment of the market and their targeted consumer, some properties and locations are niche, no one can claim to be an expert in everything. If you want a more DIY approach there are portals online where you can market the property yourself based on your own valuation, whilst it might give you a sense of control I would strongly advise against it. As the vendor it is very difficult to give an objective view; I am trying to sell my own house and had a figure in mind, however after several valuations from agents I realised I was being a bit optimistic. I overvalued and this is what I do for a living! My love for my house clouded my judgement and I failed to appreciate the deterioration of the décor as I see it every day. There is no set formula for arriving at a house valuation, experience and an understanding of valuation ceilings in some areas counts for a lot. Getting an accurate valuation is a crucial part of the process, get it right and you are much more likely to get a quick sale, get it wrong and you could be in a whole world of bother. Next month... viewings: who sells your property better: Agent or Vendor?

What’s on Magazine Supporting K9 Friends Dog Charity in Barbados Simon and his partner Lauren Silverman spent Christmas and New Year in Barbados returning on 17th January. The couple were enjoying some family time with their 11-month old baby Eric, and their two Yorkshire Terriers Squiddly and Diddly. The couple welcomed their son in February and are enjoying their first Christmas break in Barbados as a family. Simon was joined on the island by close friend Sinitta, former X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos, Xtra Factor host Sarah Jane Crawford and one of his Syco boybands Union J. What’s On Magazine was invited to attend a special charity evening hosted by Simon. Taking a break from his holiday he came along to the annual K9 Friends (Barbados) fundraising evening. He was joined by Lauren and pop veteran Sinitta, Tulisa and other friends. K9 Friends (Barbados) has been set up to bring some cohesion to all the different groups and charities on the Island that deal in

canine welfare. The charity also works with others and provide funding for projects, particularly those associated with education and neutering. The Charity auction was held at Holders House, owned by supermodel Jodie Kidd’s family, in the region of St James, Barbados and raised over £100,000 for charity K9 Friends Barbados. Guests enjoyed delicious canapes and drinks with entertainment from local band Honey Jam. Introducing the evening, Simon said his beloved pet pooches Squiddly and Diddly were with him on holiday at 1 Sandy Lane but he hadn’t brought them to the event because they had been ‘very naughty’ and were ‘the worst behaved dogs in the world’.

Many of the cats have been adopted or are simply in need of a new home because of a change in people’s circumstances. Some have been ill treated. They are all in need of love and care. Catastrophes believe that every life saved is worth the effort it takes and with your support more cats in need will have a bright future.

Vicky Payne is an experienced, qualified Veterinary Surgeon offering scientifically proven complementary therapies to all companion animals. She will work with your Vet where conventional drugs are needed, finding her therapies often increase the effectiveness of conventional drugs, or limit their negative effects. Vicky is now a COAPE trained behaviourist and is taking on cats and dogs with behaviour problems. Vicky offers home visits and holds regular clinics at Goudhurst Veterinary Clinic (01580 211981) and Companion Care Eastbourne (01323 649315).

A

round 300 supporters turned out in support of the K9 cause, with Simon starting the night’s auction by offering four VIP tickets and hospitality for this years Britain’s Got Talent final. He then acted as auctioneer for the prize which sold for $13000 USD (about £8300). Other lots included .... Four tickets for a One Direction Concert in London selling for £2,500. A private cooking evening with celebrity chef Aldo Zilli raised £1000. A week long wine tasting trip for eight to South Africa, auctioned by Lizzie Cundy, raised £4000. Simon declared that he would personally match every pound raised at the auction. After the fundraiser, Simon tweeted: “Thank you to everyone who helped out at the dog charity last night. It will make a huge difference.” Simon rarely travels without his close female companions and this evening was no different. Simon’s ex-girlfriend and close friend Sinitta brought along a stuffed toy dog and delighted in posing for pictures. Simon was dressed in his trademark white shirt and jeans combination while Lauren - with whom he has baby son Eric - was very ‘hands on’. While Lauren fussed over Simon, he was doting over an adorable puppy, rescued by the K9 Friends Charity. Tulisa got up on stage with her showbiz agent Jonathan Shalit at one point, declaring that Simon was the best X Factor judge because of his love of dogs.

In this New Year, you may have received computers or other gadgets as gifts for Christmas and need help with any problems they incur. For the non-technically minded, this can be a mine field, especially when explaining a problem over the phone. Wouldn’t it be better to have an easier way to do this? Something that doesn’t involve someone connecting to your computer over the Internet? On Windows, there is a tool that is hidden away in the system called the Problem Steps Recorder that records the screen as you recreate the problems you have, and when finished it presents you with a zip file that you send to a technical person.

A New Year Resolution Now that we are at the start of 2015 it is a good time to set resolutions and to make sure that your affairs are in order. Lock and Gurney offer a free consultation for writing wills. You may have a will but have not looked at it for years. We would be happy to look at the will and see if it needs updating. If it is still up to date then you will have peace of mind that everything is still in order. If you have not made a will but have been thinking about making one then again we are happy to explain what goes into a will and why. Lock and Gurney hope it is a long time before you need to use your will but none of us know when that time will be. Why not start the new year by finding out how to make a will and have that peace of mind that your affairs are in order for your loved ones.

Gardens for Quality of Life and Wellbeing Championed at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2015 Sanctuary, calm and happiness are key elements in many of the gardens and exhibits featured at the 2015 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. This enduring appeal of gardens as sanctuaries of peace and happiness is reflected in several exhibits this year, especially within Fresh gardens, where the calming influence of gardens is highlighted. Fuminari Todaka’s ‘Home – Personal Universe’ exhibit is designed to demonstrate how a garden can deepen the love of a family, and features a private family space where the soothing features, such as a delicate waterfall, help to inspire conversation between parents and children. The Breast Cancer Haven Garden, a collaboration between designer Sarah Eberle and artisan scupltor Tom Hare, reflects the support offered by The Haven national charity to people affected by breast cancer. Wildlife Birds of a Feather I t is a fact I always like to try and get away to the sun in Jan/Feb. This year my wife and I sneaked off to Africa. Four days in the Masai Mara followed by a beach holiday in Zanzibar did the trick. We stayed at the “Governors Camp” on the banks of the Mara river, apart from the many animals the bird life was mind blowing, this place is a dream for bird lovers. Here are a few of my snaps, more can be found on https://www.flickr.com/photos/ birdbore/sets/72157649923881910/ if you are interested.
