Painting workshops from Halcyon Days Annie Sloan has developed her paint and techniques over the last 25 years. It is stated as ‘The Best Paint in The World’ by many of it’s users It has a wonderful soft, matt finish that is ideal for furniture. There are many exciting colours that can be mixed to achieve the hue that you favour. Here is the ‘biggy’: IT REQUIRES NO PRIMING, NO RUBBING DOWN AND it can be used on almost anything, old waxed pine, on metal and varnished wood. It is fantastic for walls as it allows the wall to breathe (can be waxed after for luxurious finish). It can be used on floors (concrete or wood) and then finished with Annie Sloan’s water based floor varnish). You can also apply it outside on walls, wood, metal, plastic or terracotta. Just leave to cure (harden) before exposing to the rain. We run paint courses at our home in New Romney where you can learn to upcycle furniture and other items. We will teach you paint effects that will revamp and embellish your furniture,You will gain the confidence to colour combine (and to be daring!) you will learn that you cannot ‘mess up’ just enjoy. THE INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP will inspire you to transform rooms, renew kitchens or just recycle a piece of furniture. You will learn how to use CHALK PAINT® and achieve a wonderful finish, a one coloured aged look, a two coloured aged look and a crackled paint finish.

Call us for dates and details of our classes.

Sir Chris Hoy Sir Chris Hoy MBE is GB’s most successful Olympic athlete of all time, with six gold medals and one silver. Chris won his first Olympic gold medal in Athens 2004 in the Kilo – an event that was dropped from the programme for Beijing 2008. Chris took this in his stride and switched his focus to three other track sprint events – the Keirin, Sprint and Team Sprint. He went on to win a gold medal in all three at the Beijing Olympics, cementing his name in the history books.

F

ollowing his historic hat-trick of gold medals at the Beijing Olympics, Chris was voted 2008 BBC Sports Personality of the Year. He was also awarded a Knighthood in the 2009 New Year Honours list, capping an extraordinary year for the track cyclist from Edinburgh. In 2012 at his home Olympic Games in London, Chris won his fifth and sixth gold medals- in the Keirin and Team Sprint- becoming Great Britain’s most successful Olympic athlete of all time with six gold medals and one silver. Chris retired from competitive cycling in 2013 and his achievements throughout his career make him Scotland’s most successful Olympian, the first Briton since 1908 to win three gold medals in a single Olympic Games, and the most successful Olympic male cyclist of all time.

Following his retirement, Chris remains passionate about bikes – and has succesfully made the transition into the business world following the launch of his bike range HOY Bikes

What’s On Magazine met up with Sir Chris Hoy at The Bike Show. Chris, how’s life treating you now you’ve retired from the professional circuit? It’s been great - it’s been very busy and very different to what I was doing before. I used to be in a very ordered programme where I knew exactly what I was doing every day - I’d plan weeks in advance, but now there’s no typical week. The one consistent thing is the Hoy Bikes project, which is probably taking up about half my time.

It’s been really good fun and just great to have something to get my teeth into, and it keeps me on the bike as I’m testing them. What else is taking up your time? I’ve been doing a bit of motor racing - it’s just a hobby but it’s amazing how the same competitive instincts kick in that I used when I was cycling. I’m also working on various charity projects, plus have been doing stuff for the Commonwealth Games in my ambassadorial role, as well as being an ambassador for the Air Cadets. What was the inspiration behind launching your own range of bikes? Back in 201 I didn’t know exactly when I was going to retire but I knew that regardless of whether I stopped after London or after Glasgow, my professional career was coming to an end and it was just a matter of finding something to capture my imagination and really give me a motivation for getting up in the morning. To make your own bikes and to design them, test them, choose the componentry, geometry, everthing - it’s a fantastic thing to be able to do and I guess I’ve always wanted to be able to do it. Ever since I was a kid when I was racing BMX’s, I would work at my part time job when I was at school and save up the money to try to put together the best possible bike for my budget. I would be buying second-hand components and was working in bike shop so I’d get discount on new ones. Essentially it’s the same project now, just done on a much bigger scale. It’s quite mental to be able to do it and hugely satisfying when I see people out on the bikes. Do you get great satisfaction seeing your bikes out on the streets? In fact I never expected to see any on the roads for a while, I remember coming down to London just about a week or two after we launched the bikes. I was with Rob, my manager in a taxi and he said ‘when do you think we will see our first Hoy Bike out on the road?’. I said ‘ come on there are four million bikes sold in the UK every year and we had sold about fifty at that point so the likelihood of seeing one was about the same as winning the lottery’. Literally as the words came out of my mouth this guy rode past our taxi on one of my bikes. I was convinced my manager had set it up but apparently not. What’s the best part of the development process? I’m still a bit of a sucker for the test riding - I love getting a prototype, one that I’ve designed, and it arrives looking very innocuous as it’s not yet painted and you set it up and get a nervous feeling about if it’s going to work or not. When the track bike arrived, which to be fair is based pretty closely on my race bike, it was bang on and while that was exciting I was also disappointed that there was nothing I could say - they’d nailed it first time.

to get up the hills. When I wa racing the track I didn’t do it at all as it’s a very different kind of skill and fitness required, so mountain biking is one of those things that I’ve really enjoyed getting back into. It’s so much fun, you get up to these beautiful parts of the country and just enjoy riding your bike, it’s really great. Have you got a favourite spot you like to head out to? The Pentland Hills around Edinburgh are my favourite. They’re only half an hour from the city centre so considering they’re so close to a major city they’re pretty cool. Any tips for young people who want to be professional cyclists? You have to enjoy it - you don’t want to take it too seriously. But having said that, when you’re racing or when you’re training, give it your all, and don’t worry about other people because it’s easy at that age to be disheartened when you see that there’s people much better than you. Usually it’s because they’re bigger or growing faster or they just have a bit more experience and you’re not on a level playing field when you’re in your childhood - it kind of levels out when you hit your late teens. Apparently you have also started enjoying some car racing, can you tell us about this? Yes I am still enjoying my cycling four or five days a week, but motorsport is something that I have been a fan of for a number of years and now that I have retired from cycling there has been more opportunities for me to do some motor racing. I did some competing last year in the SL1 Cup and I really enjoyed it. Although it is obviously really different to cycling you get the same adrenaline rush when you are sitting there on startline waiting to go. There are obviously more risks in this sport and you don’t take those lightly but at the end of the day you could get hit by a bus when you are crossing the street. You have got to enjoy your life and do the things that you love doing. It has been a dream come true that I have managed to keep racing cycles into my mid 30’s. I understand that you have recently had a tour of Australia, what’s the cycling scene like out there? It’s amazing and they had a charity race whilst I was out there which had nearly 7,000 entries and 40,000 visitors to Adelaide who had just come to see it. They have got some good flat terrain and also some challenging hills. I cycled up a mountain and had some fantastic views of Adelaide stretched out beneath me.

Is there something for everyone in the range? Yes, we’re trying to make it accessible to people so we came up with some mid-range road bikes and hybrid bikes plus a track bike that range in price from £550 up to £1,300 and the range is set to expand both ways. We’ve also got the 650c, the kids’ track bike. There aren’t many track bikes around for kids - with new velodromes opening up all over the country they want to ahve a go but they tend to get fobbed off with fairly average components and heavy frames which aren’t much fun to ride. We’ve really put a lot of work and effort into it and they’ve been well received by the three younger test pilots we have.

What Inspired you to start cycling? I think all kids go through a stage where they love bikes and it gives you the freedom to decide how fast you go, where you go and what you do. It’s exciting and you feel like you really have grown up once you are riding your own bicycle. I saw a BMX bike for the first time when I was watching the chase sequence in ET, the Extra Terrestrial. Seeing them tearing trhough the streets really caught my attention and straight away I thought ‘I want to be doing that’. There was a BMX track about ten minutes away from my house and my dad brought me a second hand bike from a jumble sale for £5 and I set about customising it with grips and badges and it was the best thing that I have ever seen. The only problem was I snapped the frame within the first couple of months and I think that my parents realised that they had to get me a proper BMX bike, so that is how it all started. I started racing bikes when I was 7.

Now that you don’t have to faocus on the track, are you enjoying different kinds of cycling? Yeah definitely. I used to race mountain bikes when I was 15, 16 and 17 and I loved it, but I wasn’t very good at it as I’m a bit heavy

When was the first time that you raced competitively? I raced at an opening meeting in Manchester, it was October 1994 and there was a brand new indoor facility for the first time ever in the UK. I raced in the 8 Nations Cup. I never dreamt I was

going to be a world or olympic champion, I just thought I have an opportunity to see how far I can go, perhaps travel the world or compete in the Commonwealth Games but I knew then this was something I was going to devote my life to without knowing how far I was going to go. In the old days when you were competing for the world championships you were given a tracksuit top which was your only leisurewear, you had to sign out for it, use it for the week and then hand it back in. Nowadays if you get on the squad you get your kit for every different weather condition, you have leisurewear and it’s really unrecognisable from where it used to be. Are the memories of London 2012 your most vivid? I actually don’t remember much of the race, I remember more seeing the video of the race afterwards. It was one of those races where things were just on a knife edge, if Lavey had just got half a wheel in front of me he could have shut me down on the last corner and I probably would have came fourth or fifth. I managed to hang on and drive into the last corner and once I had the inside line that was it. Have you been back to the Velodrome since? Yes I was there a few days ago doing some filming for a project that I have coming up. I thought there would be lots of memories and ghosts of what had happened but it felt very different. It actually reminded me of the first time that I had been there before the olympics for a weeks training before the World Cup. In a way it was quite sad because an empty stadium doesn’t have the same atmosphere and it reminds me more of the thousands of hours of training, slogging your guts out and putting in every last ounce of effort rather than remembering the excitement of the race itself. It’s weird the things that come back to you. I remember going

to the toilet to get changed before the final race. This was the biggest race of my life and I was very focused and very serious and as I was bent over naked in this toilet putting my skin suit on, my bum must have triggered the hand dryer because I got this sudden whoosh of hot air behind me and I stood up, laughed at myself and thought ‘Do you know what, it’s not so serious after all’. It helped to put a bit of perspective on it all. You’re an ambassador for UNICEF - what was your reason for getting involved with them? In the lead-up to the Games in 2012, UNICEF had a programme called international inspiration, which was a way of trying to improve children’s lives in some of the poorest countries of the world through sport. Since then, I’ve continued as an ambassador for UNICEF as it does a huge amount of really good work around the world. I also do some work with a small Scottish charity, the Scottish Association for Mental Health, as I think mental health is something we don’t really talk about yet a lot of people suffer from it. I’ve had various teammates and friends who had had mental health issues over the year and it’s still a bit of a taboo, so I like to give them any help I can to raise their profile. At one end of the spectrum is a huge global charity that everyone knows about and at the other is quite a small one that you feel could possibly have a bigger impact on with the time you’ve got.

Thank you Chris www.chrishoy.com http://www.hoybikes.com/ http://www.twitter.com/chrishoy

Food & Drink For 25 years we have travelled extensively through the vineyards of France, Italy, Spain, Germany and beyond in pursuit of Europe’s greatest wines. You can find the culmination of that journey at The Weald Wine Cellars, Moor Hill Hawkhurst. (Next door to the Black Pig). We believe that provenance is just as important when it comes to wine as it is when it comes to food. Let’s face it we consume both! But the labelling for wine and what goes into it is not nearly as strict as it is with food products. So trust and traceability are very important. Over the years we have forged a vital personal link with small wine producers across Europe. They know that the only way that they can compete in this very competitive market is to produce consistently interesting wines of the up most quality and value. They also need a specialist Importer/Retailer with expert knowledge to sell them and that’s where we come in. LIKE YOU WE KNOW GOOD WINE WHEN WE TASTE IT!

‘Free From’ Challenges Eating Out With Food Intolerances It wasn’t until I opened Mrs Burton’s Tearoom and Restaurant and attempted to prepare Gluten Free food in a professional kitchen that I realised why so many Tearooms Cafes and Restaurants are so reluctant to do so. If you simply buy in ready made Gluten Free products it’s not such a challenge but even then products such as Gluten Free bread are being offered by establishments and then contaminated in toasters or on boards that have been used for regular bread. I have often ordered what I thought was a Gluten Free option on a menu and still been ill afterwards. I’ve come to believe however that to serve a wide variety of home made Gluten Free food in a professional kitchen is very difficult but not impossible. It’s not necessary to have a completely separate room with a door that closes it off from the rest of the kitchen and staff that scrub down on entry. Obviously there are not many high street establishments that can rise to this echelon of Gluten Free perfection but they can implement standard procedures that prevent Gluten Free food being contaminated with Gluten. For me it’s not just about how many Gluten Free or Dairy Free options an establishment can offer but the effort to offer something I can eat and deliver it with respect for my needs. Our servers not only treat customers with respect, they make every effort to determine exactly what their requirements are and relate that to our kitchen staff who understand, both how they should prepare a meal for someone with sensitivity to any particular food, and what the implications are for you the customer if they don’t adhere to the strict guidelines we’ve established. For more information about Mrs Burton’s Gluten Free options or for help in establishing a Gluten Free environment in your professional kitchen please visit www.mrsburtons.co.uk

Danson Tree Care warns consumers to be vigilant . . . Danson Tree Care would like to warn the public to be careful of people trying to make a ‘quick buck’ out of peoples’ misfortunes in the aftermath of the storms. Consumers should BE WARY of amateurs, with chainsaws, that will probably blow out of town as quickly as the storm! “The risks of hiring an uninsured tree surgeon include YOU having to take responsibility for damages to your property and possibly your neighbours’ as well as any injuries to the tree surgeons themselves! Even if a tree must be removed, safety and training is still needed to prevent additional damage (to both the tree and your property) from its removal. Like many other professional tree surgeons, we pay thousands of pounds for our insurances and credentials, not just to cover us, but to cover our customers, too. Nick Danson, owner of Danson Tree Care. “We have used Nick Danson for all of our tree surgery and husbandry and his work has always been fast, efficient and, best of all, clean. Our trees are all benefitting from his considerate and caring work.” Graham How, Hastings. Call us to arrange a no obligation quote or search Danson Tree Care on Facebook for more information.

Welcoming Newcomers and Remembering the Past RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2014

W

ar commemorations, anniversaries and scientific displays are just some of the highlights within the Great Pavilion at the 2014 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, sponsored by M&G Investments (20 – 24 May 2014). Birmingham City Council has joined forces with the Royal British Legion and the charity Thrive to honour the First World War through a floral exhibit which will capture the story of life on the frontline. The display will feature important wartime memorabilia as well as giant poppies and reconstructions of the trenches where troops were stationed. Pennard Plants will also be commemorating the outbreak of the war with two back to back gardens reflecting the times preceding and following 1914. Heritage cultivars will grow in the formal pre-1914 garden while wildflowers including poppies will dominate the post-1918 area. Several exhibitors will celebrate milestones at the 2014 show including Perennial, which has teamed up with designer Jo Thompson to mark the charity’s 175th anniversary. Jo will work with Jim Buttress and Hardy’s Cottage Garden Plants to produce the display. Jon Wheatley from Stone Barn will create a floral spectacle to celebrate 50 golden years of South West in Bloom reflecting the diversity of the area. This will feature dahlias as well as a selection of new plants. Raymond Evison will launch a number of Clematis. One of these, chosen to celebrate his 25th Gold medal at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2013, features in a set of Guernsey postage stamps. The 2014 RHS Chelsea Flower Show welcomes a number of new nurseries, including Drointon Nurseries, which will exhibit a display of Auricula primulas giving a more contemporary theme to the traditional presentations of this type of plant. Brighter Blooms will make its debut with a display of Zantedeschia, and PW Bamboo will also display a new bamboo exhibit. The new Discovery area in the Great Pavilion, which replaces RHS Environment, will be full of scientific and educational exhibits including Sparsholt College’s ‘The Paper Chase’ display on the botanical source of paper and how it is used in everyday life. Scotts Miracle Grow will bring a display of plants grown solely by schoolchildren, demonstrating how differing composts, plant foods and care regime affect how plants grow. At the Our Planet display visitors will control the flight of bumblebees and butterflies by playing an interactive game. The Great Pavilion will also host many other exciting displays including the M&S Great Pavilion exhibit, designed by Sallis Chandler Landscape Design. This will highlight the commercial production of cut flowers and the harmonious relationship this process has to beneficial insects and pollinators in the UK and around the world. The Great Pavilion will be bursting with more than 100 other exhibits from the world’s best nurseries, growers, florists and floral arrangers making it an unmissable attraction at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Fashion, Leisure & Gifts HALO is bursting at the seams with beautiful new stock! You may have noticed from the eye-catching window displays that colour features strongly again this Spring. Prints are big news with patterned trousers set to be a very strong look this year. Whilst for the brave the fashion is to wear matching or even contrasting prints together, the majority of us will tone it down slightly & add a simple top in a plain colour. Printed trousers look great dressed down in the day with flats (or flip flops once warm) but are surprisingly dressy with the addition of heels and a strappy top. Singin’ in the Rain Eastbourne Theatres are delighted to announce, following its recent sellout season in London’s West End, the acclaimed Chichester Festival Theatre production of the musical Singin’ in the Rain is coming to the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne from 8 – 19 April. Starring stage and screen leading man Maxwell Caulfield as studio boss R.F. Simpson, Coronation Street favourite Vicky Binns as starlet Lina Lamont, James Leece as Don Lockwood and Amy Ellen Richardson as Kathy Selden. Maxwell Caulfield said “As a huge fan of the original movie, the chance to bring this story to life on stage is something I couldn’t pass up and it’ll be great visiting some of the beautiful theatres on the tour… Theatre work is a huge passion of mine and having dealt with a few studio bosses in my time too, I relish the opportunity to play RF Simpson in this glorious production”. Don Lockwood is a silent movie star with everything he could want fame, adulation and a well-publicised ‘romance’ with his co-star Lina Lamont. But Hollywood is about to change forever. There is rumour in the studio of a new kind of film, where the actors actually talk…and sing... and dance. Can Don and the uniquely voiced Lina make the transition and will chorus girl Kathy Selden fulfil her dream of stardom and capture Don’s heart along the way? Maxwell Caulfield is best known to TV audiences as Mark Wylde in Emmerdale, Dr Jim Brodie in Casualty and Holby City and Miles Colby in both Dynasty and The Colbys. His film work includes the iconic Grease 2 opposite Michelle Pfeiffer. Theatre credits include Billy Flynn in Chicago in both the West End and on Broadway, An Inspector Calls at the National Theatre and The Rocky Horror Show on UK tour. Vicky Binns is known to millions as Molly Dobbs, Tyrone’s wife, in ITV’s Coronation Street, other TV credits include Emmerdale, and The Mill for Channel 4. Her theatre credits include Alfie at the Bolton Octagon and Teechers, Perfect Pitch and A Kind of Loving, all for Hull Truck Theatre. This production of Singin’ The Rain opened at the Chichester Festival Theatre in summer 2011 and extended due to unprecedented public demand. It then transferred to the iconic Palace Theatre in the West End in February 2012 where it received huge critical acclaim, four Olivier Award nominations and played to more than 750,000 people! Don’t miss your chance to see Singin’ in the Rain at the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne from 8 – 19 April. Tickets £26 - £38. To book call the box office on 01323 412000 or online www.eastbournetheatres.co.uk. He has been interested in folk music, drama and acting from an early age and was inspired by folk singer Tom Paxton who he later performed alongside. Almond has travelled and worked all over the UK and even owned his own performance centre in Scotland organising childrens work and drama holidays. The centres patron was Marvin Hayes who many may remember as being one of the stars of It Ain’t Half Hot Mum. Almond even appeared in one of the episodes of this popular series. Throughout his career Almond has performed with many great names and entertained some very famous people including the Queen Mother at Westminster Abbey. Whilst living in Hong Kong he presented a British Forces Radio show with Tommy Vance and was later interviewed twice by Tommy as a guest on Tommy’s show. Other colleagues included Derek Mandell who played with George Harrison and Nick Bailey who is now well known from his shows on Classic FM. Psalms from the Horses Mouth

Since the earliest times there has been a strong, almost a magical connection between people and horses. It’s a relationship that has continued through history, and it’s only over the last seventy years that the connection has been severed for most of us by the supplanting of the horse by the internal combustion engine. But we feel it instinctively still; when we are in the presence of horses an old memory is wakened in us. This programme of words and music explores and celebrates the ancient relationship between man and horse. It also explores what we have lost by being out of touch with ‘horse presence’. Using story, poetry and song and it evokes the companionship and the mystery, the sense of otherness that horses conjure in us. At the heart of the programme is the narrative poem ‘The Horses’, a story that begins in Eastern England a hundred years ago. It follows the life of Jenny Wing, a horseman’s daughter. The slow disappearance of the horses from the landscape mirrors the aspirations and disappointments of her lifetime, a lifetime that almost spans the twentieth century. The programme also includes poetry, and humorous, moving stories from the British, Russian and Navajo traditions.

Hastings Philharmonic Choir with Ensemble OrQuestra The Choir and Ensemble is excited to present its spring concert which features Cherubini’s glorious Requiem Mass in C Minor, first performed in 1816, when it was a huge success. Bridging the disciplines of the Classical and Romantic periods, Beethoven considered Cherubini to be the greatest of his contemporaries and he was also admired by Schumann and Brahms. Firmly Romantic the choir will also perform three works by Brahms. His dramatic Song of Destiny (Schicksalslied) from 1871, a choral piece, is second only to his great Requiem in popularity. Song of the Fates (Gesang der Parzen) was first performed in 1882. This is a rare opportunity to experience a live performance of the latter, although it is often recorded. The third Brahms masterpiece, the Violin Concerto, is considered one of the great German concertos for violin. Tickets: Stalls £15(£13 concs); Gallery £10(£8 concs); £3 (young people under 17 yrs). Reserve online at www.hastingsphilchoir.org.uk or buy from advertised outlets.

A Good Tidy Up And Clear Out Does Wonders For Our Mood And State Of Mind Our homes are very important to us; they are our havens; our modern day caves and the one place to truly be ourselves. With this in mind, we need to feel absolutely comfortable within our four walls and one way of doing so is by keeping the space clean, tidy and clear from clutter. March has traditionally been the best time of the year for spring cleaning, as it is usually warm enough to open windows to allow fresh air to permeate the home after the long, cold and wet winter. Before you begin having a major sort out, collect four boxes and label them:

KEEP * SELL * DONATE * DISPOSE KEEP: These are the clothes and items that you wear and use on a regular basis. Good ways to keep wardrobes and cupboards orderly is to store away out of season items and put things back after you use them. ‘A place for everything and everything in its place.’ SELL: Contemplate the monetary benefits of selling unwanted items at a boot-garage sale or via online selling groups. DONATE: Be generous. Think about how someone else might get good use out of any items that are usually hidden away deep within the recesses of your cupboards. Charities or the ‘freecycle network’ are good ways to find good homes for unwanted items. ‘One person’s trash is another’s treasure’.

Bowler Crab’s production of Romeo & Juliet will be performed as the first of three 2014 productions at Half House Farm. What better way to celebrate William Shakespeare’s 450th Birthday (23rd April) than to come and see one of his most romantic plays? The Tragedy tells the renowned tale of the lovers Romeo & Juliet, whose warring families are the source of their isolation from one another; but can the two survive without their one true love? Tickets for all three productions are £12.50 each or you can now purchase a Season Pass for just £30! Tickets & Passes are available online now at www.bowler-crab.com and will be available soon at local Tourist Information Centres

DISPOSE: This box should include any items that are worn-out, damaged beyond repair and broken. Begin working on one room at a time, when it is time for a break; be sure to immediately get rid of the ‘dispose box’. Place the ‘sell’ and ‘donate’ boxes in the garage, or out of sight, because if you allow yourself to mull over the decisions you have made, you may want to begin rescuing the clutter. If you are a habitual hoarder and find it difficult to let go of years of object d’art and items no longer required, unworn, used, broken or worn out, perhaps enlist the help of a friend or hire a specialist to keep you on the right path of declutterisation. After you have finished within the home, begin the process in the loft, garage and any out-buildings; you will be surprised at how good you will feel at the sense of achievement reached through this cathartic process. PRINCE HARRY TAKES PART IN GOODWOOD TRACK DAY His Royal Highness Prince Harry made his Goodwood Motor Circuit debut as part of a track day run by the Royal Foundation Endeavour Fund. After being greeted by Lord March, owner of Goodwood Motor Circuit, Prince Harry completed a handful of adrenaline-fueled laps of the historic circuit in a classic Aston Martin DB4, before another high-speed run, this time in a Lamborghini Gallardo.

Following laps in a Jaguar F-Type and an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, he met injured servicemen that have been helped by the Endeavour Fund and visited an exhibition of the Royal Foundation’s projects, before paying a visit to the Boultbee Flying Academy, based at Goodwood Aerodrome. Lord March said: “We’re delighted to have Prince Harry attend a track day here at the Goodwood Motor Circuit and to support the work of the Royal Foundation Endeavour Fund, which has established some wonderful projects to help injured service personnel. As a former Royal Air Force base, Goodwood has a connection with military service that stretches back 75 years, so it’s something that we feel quite a part of.” www.facebook.com/goodwoodmotorcircuit

olon Hydrotherapy or Colonic Irrigation has been around for centuries, the method is simple yet very effective, a study in America shows out of 96 random people chosen with different bowel complaints awaiting operations, over half of them didn’t need surgery after 6 courses of colonic irrigation. Unfortunately we are exposed to many different types of pollutions and toxins, mixed with people’s poor diets and life habits, all these toxins get stored in the bowel, the large intestine gets congested with sticky material that impacts on the bowel wall, killing friendly bacteria and causing all different problems from candida, bloating, smelly wind, lethargicness, bad skin, and to more serious problems like colitis, diverticulitis, ulcers, and the second biggest killer in England, bowel cancer. We are all toxic pylons in need of cleansing even if you open your bowels regularly and have a good diet your system will still benefit. So whey not try it, a spring clean! The treatment involves a mini sterilised stainless steel scope that is inserted into the rectum, a water and outlet tube are attached and while laying on your back covered with a towel, warm water is gently flushed into the colon and encourages faeces, toxins and gas to be released. The treatment lasts for approximately 45 minutes, when it has finished you go to the toilet. It’s non smelly, non painful treatment and really isn’t that bad! Why not give it a try. I will look forward to meeting you.

Country Pursuits on 5th March Wealden Mobility, the Heathfield based shop, was developed to provide access to the latest equipment to enable people, young and old, to improve their quality of life without limitations. Life within a rural community can be exhilarating and should be full of opportunities to get out and explore, but this may not be available to everyone. With this in mind, and the desire to enjoy living to the full, Wealden Mobility is hosting a Demonstration Day for Off Road Mobility

scooters at the renowned Brightling Park on Wednesday 5th March 2014. This event will show some of the latest equipment designed to provide users, particularly with mobility problems, with the opportunity to fully experience pursuits that had previously been excluded, or even to get around their own land safely and securely. There will be an opportunity to see three scooters in action and even test ride them over rugged, sloping terrain to see what they are capable of. Representatives from Wealden Mobility and the manufacturers will be on hand to discuss your requirements.

The event is by invitation only and spaces are limited so contact Wealden Mobility as soon as possible to book your place at this unique event. You can do this by email (info@wealdenmobility.co.uk), T: (01435 864155) or by calling into the shop (48 High Street, Heathfield, TN21 8JB) We look forward to meeting with you and discussing all of your mobility requirements. Birds of a Feather W

ell....at the time of writing the weather is blooming awful (to say the least) I know we British have the reputation for continually moaning about our weather but the discomfort and damage this water has caused is way beyond a joke. Keeping your garden bird feeders dry can be difficult as the rain often comes in from the side, it is a good idea to check the contents regularly, keeping a special

Great Spotted Woodpecker

eye (if you have one) on the peanut feeders as these can cause problems for your birds. On the bright side we have had some super birds visit us in our Nature Area. The beautiful little Goldcrest popped into the shop, the Treecreeper posed for us on the wall outside, we had a single Redpoll on the Niger and Sunflower hearts plus up to five Siskins flitting from feeder to feeder.

A visiting group were lucky to see the Great Spotted Woodpecker happily pecking away at the peanuts right in front of the hide. Here are some of our photos hoping I put the right name to the corresponding picture, unlike last month.....
