have been established since 1971 and have been trading in Eastbourne and the surrounding area ever since. We are a small family run business that cover not only domestic properties but communal systems too. We recognise that no two scenarios are the same and aim to provide the highest level of service to all of our customers. Whether you’re looking for a repair or a complete new installation our experienced engineers will listen to your needs and fully explain the options available to you. We are members of the Confederation of Aerial Industries and have been since 1978 with our membership number of 003! Prior to the digital switchover we gained our CAI plus membership, this was created to set a higher standard; reinforcing the professionalism of our engineers with added checks and more stringent standards. This status means that all of our engineers are CRB checked and fully insured, together with the added peace of mind that we comply to all of the industry recognised standards. All of the installations we complete are covered by a 12 month guarantee, alongside this the CAI are able to provide a double guarantee for single household installations for its members clients. We feel this gives our customers the peace of mind they need together with the knowledge that the workmanship carried out will be of the highest standard possible. Although we have moved premises in the last year, the engineers that visit you in your home are the same, with the Head Engineer, Ian Whitehorn now being a Director of the company. Before this Ian had been working for Blount Aerials for 10 years proving himself to be an exemplary worker. Our core values will never change and we will always aim to provide our customers, past, present and future with the best possible service no matter how big or small their requirements.

Making the most of viewings on your property When presenting your home to others, ask yourself one question; “when do I like my house the most?” is it when there is clutter everywhere, the floors and the hoover haven’t met in a week, likewise the sideboard and the duster and remnants of the kid’s playtime are causing health and safety hazards throughout your home or is it when it looks orderly and clean? Don’t Fret though, you don’t have to put your life on hold, no one expects a show home. Sometimes a house which looks lived in can be advantageous as it helps prospective occupiers imagine themselves living there. However you want to maximise the perceived potential of your house, obviously there are the old adages of having bread baking, but in case dough kneading is not your idea of a good time here are a few pointers: • Minimise clutter, it can make rooms seem smaller and make storage appear problematic. • Make the house as light as possible, unfortunately this means window cleaning! Try and ensure all light bulbs are working as a ‘darker’ room will seem more acceptable if the flick of a light switch transforms it to ‘cosy’. • Try to avoid the junk room/dumping ground. A lot of us will have an area in our house where we just dump stuff which ‘we might use one day’, however if you do not see this space as useful living space others will not either. • Ensure the agent has all the information. E.g. if you had a new roof put on a year ago, make sure a prospective buyer knows there is one less cost which they are likely to face in the immediate future. • Let the agent do their job. As the vendor you are too emotionally involved, you may inadvertently sabotage your home’s positives, you do not want to draw attention to the reasons as to why your home no longer suits you. Avoid putting unforeseen concerns into a buyers mind, nor do you want to be perceived to be overcompensating by gushing about your home. • If looking to rent the property try to keep colour schemes neutral. • Finally don’t be afraid of spending a few pennies in order to maximise value. It’s very easy to mentally vacate your property before physically doing so. You don’t need to go overboard but a
Tues. 7th & 8th Oct. London Harvest Festival Show
lick of paint can transform a room without completely annihilating the bank balance. Ultimately have some common sense, regardless of what you do, your home will not be for everyone, try not to become disheartened, if you, at one time saw the potential in your house then someone else will do too.

Little Acorns Day Nursery offer quality care for children aged 0 – 5 years and the aim of the Nursery is to provide a loving and safe environment for the children in our care. Our nursery is set up as an open plan area, allowing children to have access to clearly labelled resources, this encourages children to move around freely, starting to make their own choices and decisions about their play. We offer a range of resources, including sand and water, rest and sleep areas, musical instruments, books, puzzles, mark making, heuristic play, small world and imaginary play equipment, secure outside play area. In collaboration with the children, we are setting up a stimulating ‘mud kitchen’ and planting area where children can play and explore with access to our local environment and community. Mud kitchens provide something quite different to a soil digging patch, whilst also being much more easily managed. A mud kitchen includes elements of the much-loved domestic corner and cooking from indoor play, which are then hugely enriched through the special nature of being outside. We have two classrooms; ‘Acorns’ an exciting, stimulating and caring environment for those aged 0-2 years and ‘Little Oaks’ a fun filled room with access to a messy area encouraging independence and confidence and preparing your child for school. Now registered for 2 year olds who are eligible for the 15 hours government funding. We have recently had our OFSTED inspection and achieved ‘Good’ in all areas which we are delighted with. Please contact us for more information.

EASTBOURNE’S FAMOUS PANTOMIME IS BEASTLY GOOD FUN!
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
DEVONSHIRE PARK THEATRE, EASTBOURNE
12 December 2014 – 11 January 2015
Eastbourne’s stunning pantomime is the family favourite Beauty and the Beast, at the Devonshire Park Theatre from 12 December until 11 January. With a cast of pure talent and plenty of magical surprises in store it is sure to be the highlight of the season! Eastbourne favourites Martyn Knight and Tucker return to cause more chaos and calamity with Hollyoaks star Carley Stenson, fresh from her West End roles in Spamalot, Legally Blonde and Shrek making her Eastbourne debut as Malevolent. Our heroine Belle (Emily Bull) is set to go on a journey of love and adventure which will prove that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. Imprisoned in an enchanted Chateau by a hideous looking beast, her only friends are Dame Derriere (Martyn Knight) and the hapless Potty Pierre (Tucker), but what has happened to the handsome Prince? Will the wicked enchantress’ spell be broken before the last rose petal falls? Eastbourne’s pantomimes are famed for giving audiences a true live theatre experience, with a full band, beautiful costumes designed and created especially for the show and of course lots of magical onstage effects. And with tickets prices that are far from beastly, priced from just £12, this is pantomime for everyone to enjoy. Pantomime director and writer Chris Jordan said: “We are so excited to be bringing this magical tale back to life at the Devonshire Park this winter. So much preparation and hard work goes into turning this classic fairy tale into a pantomime. The team have been hard at work already looking at new costume designs, drawing up lists of props that are going to be needed and of course the sets.” “We are delighted to be presenting another Eastbourne Theatre spectacular, and if you saw last year’s record-breaking Aladdin, we promise you this show will be even better. We hope you bring your family to meet ours and be our guest at this stunning panto!” Beauty and the Beast at the Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne, from 12 December until 11 January. Tickets priced from £12 to £20 with concessions available, to book or for more information call the box office on 01323 412000 or online www. eastbournetheatres.co.uk.

It also acts as an umbrella organisation, making representations to influential partner organisations in the public and private sectors and passing on information to our members. We believe that older people are an under-used resource, and have a great deal of knowledge and understanding of the real problems facing our society at this time. Our committee meets regularly, and also attends numerous outside meetings connected with health, social care, and other issues concerning older people such as housing and transport. We welcome new members and are happy to co-opt people onto the Committee if they are interested. Membership is free and gives you our magazine Grey Matters, packed with information, during the year.

Goodwood Revival
Exclusive Pictures
SELL-OUT CROWD OF 148,000 ENJOYS SENSATIONAL GOODWOOD REVIVAL
A
sell-out crowd of 148,000 guests enjoyed a sensational 17th Goodwood Revival Meeting on the weekend of September 12-14 at the Goodwood Motor Circuit. The on-track highlights included the annual RAC TT Celebration race for early1960s GT cars, which was won by the AC Cobra of Sauber Formula 1 test driver Giedo van der Garde and David Hart, after a thrilling battle against a £150million field that included Jaguar E-types, Aston Martin Project cars and even a Bizzarini. The 60th anniversary of the Jaguar D-Type was marked with a 30-car parade plus the Lavant Cup race exclusively for examples of the Le Mans-winning British sportscar, while the Maserati 250F also turned 60 with variants of the Italian grand prix car making up two thirds of the Richmond Trophy field for front-engined F1 machinery of the late 1950s.
Sir Jackie Stewart’s extraordinary career – which was catapulted into life at Goodwood in 1964 thanks to a maiden single-seater test – was marked with a 24-car parade that featured fellow motor racing legends John Surtees, Richard Attwood, Mark Webber and Arturo Merzario, while the 75th anniversary of RAF Westhampnett – Goodwood Aerodrome’s name during World War II – was marked with a display of 600 military vehicles and personnel, including a flypast that featured the world’s only two airworthy Lancaster bombers. Off-track recreations of Brighton Pier, Stonehenge and BMW’s 1950s Park Lane showroom combined to make the event the largest celebration of vintage culture in the world. Lord March said: The 17th Goodwood Revival drew a record crowd, who not only witnessed some of the most iconic
racing cars ever built dicing wheel-towheel, but also celebrated the career of the legendary Sir Jackie Stewart and paid tribute to the bravery of all those from West Sussex who were involved in World War II. The sight of two Lancaster Bombers in the sky together at sunset is something nobody who was there will ever forget. My sincere thanks to everyone who came for their support and enthusiasm for the event, which continues to be cherished by enthusiasts of motor racing and vintage culture across the world.”

Food & Drink Another Success for the BBB10K Race Held in Battle The Battel Bonfire Boyes 10k is a race that takes place every September in the historic town of Battle, East Sussex. Started in 2009 the race attracted its biggest ever field and produced a new course record time set by Josh Guilmant with a time of 32:47. This challenging, but fun course means that the race is ideal for beginners, fun runners or more experienced 10k runners. More than 420 runners competed in some formidably hot weather around the 10k course. While BBB organise the event as a fundraiser, lots of other charities benefit from it too with runners taking part to raise money for their own chosen charity. What’s On Magazine competed as part of the team from The Ostrich Hotel, Robertsbridge who were raising money for Alzheimers. Team Ostrich was Tony Robins (The White Rabbit), Louise Field, Jemma Cleary and Anna Townsend.

DINE WITH BORDEAUX
THE GREAT BORDEAUX DINNER On 13th DECEMBER AT SWALLOWS OAST TICEHURST
For centuries wine has been produced in Bordeaux. This has led to a great understanding of the influence of the climate, the land and the grape varieties which produce the best wines in the region. Many of the vineyards are still familyowned.
Each year the winemakers use their skill and experience to blend their grapes – Cabernet and Merlot for the reds, Sauvignon and Sémillon for the whites – to produce wines of character and diversity, whose restrained style makes them especially good with food. Bordeaux is still the greatest and most important wine region in the world. So join Weald Wine Cellars at Swallows Oast for DINE WITH BORDEAUX, THE GREAT BORDEAUX DINNER to celebrate this legendary wine growing region. We have teamed up with Chateau Du Cros and The Bordeaux Wine council to bring you this unique event. We are also delighted to be able to host the event at Swallows Oast Ticehurst. Julien Boyer from Chateau du Cros will present the wines and be on hand to chat about life as Vigneron in Bordeaux. Tickets for the event are already selling so please don’t delay. Contact us at The Weald Wines Cellars to book your table.

Elena Heathwood. Owner of Simply- Veg tells us.......
A Little Note From Tina, Owner & Baker, Bluebells Café Tearoom All my life I have loved to bake. When I was very small, my dad built me a little brick house in the garden. Inside my little brick house, I would bake wonderful imaginary cakes and he would buy them from me for a handful of pebbles. All these years later, ‘Bluebells’ is my little brick house and I still bake every single day. The cakes are no longer imaginary, but they are still just as wonderful. I know my dad would have been proud of me.
I began Simply Veg in 2010 from a love of growing my own vegetables and a passion for a simple business: Nothing beats fresh vegetables! I began buying fresh produce from a local market, and delivering to customers in Horam and Heathfield. Since those first few weeks, we have now expanded our delivery areas, producers and product range. We deliver to most of East Sussex, parts of Kent and West Sussex. We use a variety of local farms, nurseries and smallholders, along with a local market for our vegetables, a local family run baker for our bread, a local butcher for our meat, and local artisan cheese makers for our cheese. We are all about bringing what is a locally produced, and delivering it conveniently to your door. We have an easy to use website, enabling customers to select exactly the items they require (or a seasonal selection), Payment is flexible, can be made online, or if you prefer, cash on delivery. You don’t have to be in; we have temperature controlled wool cool boxes for Meat and cheese, we can leave in your garden, with a neighbour, or place of work. Use the discount code above for your first order.

Writing a Will before you get married This month what’s on Magazine is holding its Wedding Fayre at Herstmonceux castle and we wish them well. A little known fact is that you can write a joint will before you get married, this is called ‘In Contemplation of Marriage clause’ This Clause also covers Civil Partnerships which came into force in December 2005. The inclusion of this clause will prevent the will being automatically revoked on the subsequent marriage. We hope that your special day goes as planned and that the sun shines on you both, but do not be left with just the memories of your lovely day. You are now planning for the future. Nursing & Care
Venables of Hastings officially opened their new premises at Normans Road, St Leonards. Pictured below is Richard Venables (left) with Lord Brett McLean who performed the official opening. Home Care Service is a new company and has been created to eventually be devoted to different specialisms: Healthcare Recruitment, Domiciliary Care and Health Care Training. Behind these, lies one person Mr Richard Venables, whose quality driven approach underpins every aspect of the companies work, from fair but rigorous candidate vetting and superior healthcare training right through to great terms and conditions and the friendly professionalism of their care team. Where does this quality come from? It comes from the personal experiences of Mr R Venables of the Healthcare sector and from his deep understanding of the complex issues facing Homecare providers and Homecare professionals alike. But it also comes from our commitment to offering a level of service and care that we believe has been sadly lacking in the industry - until now.

Pets & Wildlife Birds of a Feather So which bird is Britain’s favourite garden visitor? For many years the Robin has been number one. Apart from the fact it is a handsome, colourful bird, our garden Robins have for many years been a gardeners friend, hopping to within feet when you are working in the garden, looking for insects that you dig up or disturb. Also they are very territorial throughout the year singing from a perch announcing their
territory. They can be a bit aggressive - especially to other males who dare intrude on their patch. According to many of our customers the Long Tailed Tit is fast becoming a very popular garden visitor, these beautiful, cute little Tits pop in en masse to see what food is on offer. At home the suet cakes seem to be the most attractive for them, there isn’t a more rewarding sight than seeing up to thirteen of
Suzy and Canines: Suzy has been a dog owner for many years and is trained by Canine Studies College in Dog Behaviour and Training, who are affiliated to the Kennel Club. Suzy has a ‘softly, softly’ approach to training, communicating through play and exercises. For a Puppy / young dog, there is a suggested six sessions over six weeks, each of 1 hour duration, after an initial consultation. These sessions will be in the home, with progression to the garden and finally outside in the world. For an older dog, a consultation in the home is followed by a learning plan to devise a regime and put it into practice. Suzy is a qualified teacher with DBS status (CRB checked) and is fully insured.
