NEW SEASON APPROACHES FOR ENGLAND’S ONLY CURLING RINK
H
ave YOU tried curling yet? England’s one and only ice rink, dedicated to this unique Olympic sport, is due to open for its 13th season at Fenton’s Rink, just 3 miles from the centre of Tunbridge Wells on 3rd October. The rink has become a very popular destination for a day or evening out with a difference – with everyone able to join in the fun of trying something completely different. Most of our visitors are beginners, so we make sure there are experienced coaches on hand to guide you through this simple game – easy to play, but difficult to master!! Whilst the game is played on ice, it does NOT involve skates! We provide non-slip shoes that enable beginners to gain confidence on the ice while learning to play. It’s not all about beginners at Fenton’s Rink, though. Over the years, we have seen the development of really talented players – and we were delighted last season when our young Junior Ladies team, all from around Tunbridge Wells, won the European Challenge and played in the World Championships – a first for England! Many local schools take part in our annual English Schools Championships – so we are developing the game, not just for fun but as a serious sport too! So whether you want to come along for a game with some friends, book for a special occasion, like birthdays, anniversaries, stag or hen parties – or want to know more about taking up the sport, just contact us – we have something for everyone.
Claudette Leet Here at my Exhibition Space you will find a vision and creative thinking that makes you want to look and ask questions – and then look some more. Rhythms, tensions and polarities emerge reflecting emotions mostly in an abstract way, and sometimes even non-figuratively - but always completely spontaneously, intuitively and in an investigative manner, abstracted from my residual memory and imagination. It’s not Art for the faint-hearted but for the imagination of thinkers - the individualistic mind that is prepared to let go of institutional brainwashing and perimeter logic - it allows you to find yourself and be who you are.

Goodwood Revival
Exclusive Pictures
Sir Jackie Stewart
GOODWOOD REVIVAL ATTRACTS RECORD CROWD
A
record sell-out crowd of 149,000 enjoyed a sensational 18th Goodwood Revival Meeting during the weekend of September 11-13 at the iconic Goodwood Motor Circuit. The outstanding on-track moments of the weekend included the first gathering in history of all six original Shelby Daytona Coupes – on the 50th anniversary of the organisation’s World Sportscar title – and the honouring of the career of legendary racer, team boss and constructor Bruce McLaren. Race highlights included the annual RAC TT Celebration race for early-1960s GT cars, which was won by the JD Classicsprepared Jaguar E-type of former British Touring Car Champion Gordon Shedden and Chris Ward, and a back-to-front victory in the St Mary’s Trophy for 1960s saloons for the mighty Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt of ‘Mr Le Mans’ Tom Kristensen and Henry Mann. Seventeen-year-old Peter de la Roche, on his first visit to Goodwood, secured victory in the Earl of March Trophy for post-war

500cc single-seaters, taking the lead at the final corner of a scintillating race, while success in the Lavant Cup, held exclusively for 1950s Ferrari sports prototypes, went the way of James Cottingham’s Ferrari 500 TRC. The 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain was commemorated with a poignant ontrack moment on Sunday afternoon that featured 94-year-old Wing Commander Tom Neil, a Royal Air Force veteran who saw active service during the battle, and with an evocative 12-Spitfire flypast. Track displays included a collection of over 50 ‘Series’ Land Rovers and more than 25 US ‘Gassers’ that lit up their tyres with a series of spectacular burn-outs each morning, while the Earls Court Motor Show central concours celebrated Ferrari through the ages. Off-track, the 60th anniversary of the Fish Finger was marked with an authentic trawler while 50 years of Youthquake was marked with a 3D billboard featuring live models in Miniskirts. Bonhams’ Saturday sale of historic cars
and automobilia resulted in £763,000 being achieved for Keith Richards’ Bentley ‘Blue Lena’ while the Revival High Street featured period stores from Tesco, Kenwood, Bendicks and more, and the March Motor Works presented by BMW Group took the form of a trendy London Mews garage and celebrated coachbuilt specials from BMW, Rolls-Royce and MINI. Lord March said: “The 18th Goodwood Revival drew a record sell-out crowd, who not only witnessed some of the most iconic racing cars ever built dicing wheelto-wheel, but also celebrated the career of motor racing legend Bruce McLaren, saw - for the first time in history - all six original Shelby Daytona Coupes together on track and joined an incredibly poignant and fitting tribute to the bravery of all those who fought in the Battle of Britain. My sincere thanks to everyone who came for their support and enthusiasm for the event, which continues to be cherished by enthusiasts of motor racing and vintage culture across the world.”

Crowds Pour in to the Westfield Beer Festival
T
he revival of the Westfield Beer Festival reflects the passion and enthusiasm that publican Patrick Edwards has brought to The New Inn since it’s opening earlier this year. A gloriously sunny day ensured that the event was a huge success with hundreds of people in attendance. Delicious classic food with a Hog roast and BBQ, live music and the finest craft beers were all enjoyed by a good crowd of people perusing thir love of quality beer and good company. All the beers were sourced locally and the meat came from award winning Westfield Butcher ‘Archers’. The music side of the festival was led by The Mutineers, who kept the crowd buzzing and entertained throughout the day. Of course, it would not be a beer festival if not for the drinkers, and the people of Westfield showed their passion and enthusiasm creating a real community spirit. Trevor, Sarah and Minty the Horse created a real village atmosphere and the friendly staff and helpers at The New Inn deserve huge praise for their tireless work and professional approach. Plans are already in place for the festivals return next year and following this years amazing success, Patrick promises a bigger and better two day event in 2016.

Brace yourselves for another blustery one . . .
“Our trees are an extremely important part of our environment – especially across our beautiful county. Maintaining your trees, and keeping ahead of the game, by having them professionally looked after, could prevent them from being damaged or lost in the stormy weather we have to come. We would advise consumers if they are worried about any of the trees in their garden, to contact a professional before the stormy weather takes hold. In fact, investing now, could pay dividends later, to prevent an ‘emergency’ job”. Nick Danson, owner of Danson Tree Care Ltd. As a family-run business, we pride ourselves on being honest, reliable and affordable. Call Nick Danson today on 01424 421804 to arrange an informal site visit and no obligation quote.

55+ Equity Release Home improvements, holidays and repaying an existing mortgage are currently the top three reasons homeowners are taking advantage of equity release from their properties. “This is now mainstream lending by big lenders and The Financial Conduct Authority have regulated the industry since 2004. Consumers are now well protected. Anyone who keeps the very easy terms and conditions will not lose their property. “You can avoid roll-up by paying interest each year with the right product. Packages that suit one person or couple may not be at all appropriate for others. It is essential you choose the right scheme for your situation and seek expert specialist advice. And it is important to discuss any options you are considering with family members who may be affected. Ms Bull, who has worked in the mortgage industry for more than 25 years, is a qualified independent equity release adviser in her own right.
