he Goodwood Revival really is a magical step back in time, a unique chance to revel in the glamour and allure of motor racing in the romantic time capsule of the world’s most authentic motor circuit. The Revival is the world’s most popular historic motor race meeting and the only event of its kind to be staged entirely in the nostalgic time capsule of the 1940s, 50s and 60s. It is the biggest and best historic motor racing party of the year. The Revival offers visitors the opportunity to leave the ‘modern world’ behind and join motor sport luminaries in an unabashed celebration of flat-out, wheelto-wheel racing around a classic racetrack, untouched by the modern world.

SEPTEMBER in HALO is always exciting as there is just SO much new stock to see! All the brands we stock offer something a little different yet mix and match beautifully together. We are always really pleased to help you create a look all your own – so much nicer than duplicating a look from a High Street chain or catalogue. This needn’t be expensive and people are often surprised to discover we are usually cheaper than buying the same brands on line. We think this season’s colour palette is particularly strong; easy to wear shades of blue, grey and green plus of course the ever popular black! Splashes of bright red liven up the colour scheme and exciting textures such as washable (convincing imitation) leather & suede are coming to the fore. The new ANONYME collection has arrived and as you would expect from an Italian brand is very sophisticated but in a slightly quirky very wearable way! There are some fabulous new dresses from PAPER DOLLS. They specialise in figure flattering dresses finishing just below the knee meaning they are suitable for a large range of ages and can be worn as smart day wear as well as evening. So come and have a look at the new stock - we are sure you will agree HALO really is SHOPPING HEAVEN!

The Vinehall concerts offer music lovers the chance to hear world-class artists perform locally. The Chaplin Theatre at Vinehall is 3 miles south of Robertsbridge on the A21. Concerts take place in the newly refurbished Chaplin Theatre, which seats 250 in tiered seats, providing excellent visibility in a superb acoustic. The concerts attract some of the most distinguished classical musicians performing; for example the French pianist Cedric Tiberghien, of whom the Boston Globe wrote, “Tiberghien’s technique is formidable, but it’s his intensity and poetic impulsiveness that catch the ear.” We welcome emerging talent, such as the wonderful young violinist Callum Smart, along with distinguished ensembles, including the Skampa and Brodsky Callum Smart Quartets. With these and others, there is an opportunity to hear great music on our doorstep. If you would like tickets or to be on our free mailing list and receive full details of all the concerts, please phone 01580 883092, write to Geoffrey Whitehead, Vinehall School, Robertsbridge, E. THE BIG GREEN CARDIGAN 9th - 11th September 2016. Sedlescombe, near Hastings.
Almost time for the 6th Big Green Cardigan music festival a well-kept little secret right on our own doorstep. For those of you not in the know, what is it all about? Well, there is no particular musical theme; the music policy is… that there isn’t one. All musical genres rub shoulders with each other; it doesn’t matter if you haven’t heard of them, come along and discover someone new. But someone you may have heard of is Friday headliners, The Christians. Described as “the Temptations in ripped jeans ......” by one rock critic, the Liverpool band’s infectious melodies and warm harmonies had a deep emotional undercurrent. Feeding on accusations, protest, despair and even selfdoubt, their “socially aware soul” made a big impact on the complacent music scene of the late 80s. Their 1987 double-platinum debut album, “The Christians”, featured the Top 30 singles “Forgotten Town”, “Hooverville, “Ideal World” and “Born Again”. Their second album,
“Colour”, was released in 1990 and went to No.1 in the album chart. Over the years they have released another 4 albums and continued to tour extensively in the UK, Spain and France receiving rave reviews for their live performances. Chris Evans described The Christians set on air in December 2013 as “the best gig I’ve ever been to” The Christians are performing as part of The Big Green Cardigans Friday line -up which also include amongst others, folk/punk Matilda’s Scoundrels and indie darlings Dorey the Wise, just to prove the non-genre policy . Friday Day tickets are just £18. Other acts over the weekend include major festival favorites Tankus the Henge, and critically acclaimed award winning Jo Harman. Mix in Lisa Mills and Brooks Williams both from the USA and Terry Pack’s 30 plus player jazz ensemble Trees. Add to this a heady cocktail of the best local talent including British Blues award winner King Size Slim, Tim
Hoyte, Noble Jacks and Roger Hubbard and you have a festival of incredible quality. Never been to a festival before? Then maybe the Big Green Cardigan is the one to try for the full festival experience in a micro-version. There will be real beer and home-cooked food at sensible prices, plenty of clean toilets, no dogs and no kids, just loads of great musical acts. The Big Green Cardigan Festival is for over 18s only and aims to provide you with a hassle-free, relaxed, end-of-summer vibe. And, if the weather is not at its best, all the performing areas are under cover. And when we say intimate we mean it, hundreds not thousands but a limited number of tickets are still available for just £65.00 for the whole weekend (includes free camping) or as little as £18 for day tickets, available from www.biggreencardigan.com, or, AHA Stationary Supplies, Mount Street, Battle and Music’s Not Dead, Devonshire Road,

Later in the day watch the parade of re-enactors and students from the local schools as it makes its way up pretty Battle High Street. Accompanying them will be the Military Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas, who will then perform in Battle. A ceremony of Lowering the Flags at sunset on the Abbey Green will bring the day’s events to a close, in the shadow of Battle Abbey and just an arrow’s flight from the famous battlefield. A multi-denominational and international church service will be held from 15:00. You can also mark your own place in history on 3rd Sept, 17th Sept and 1st October by participating in a Community Tapestry at The Almonry in High Street, Battle. Rio 2016 L
aura Trott became the first British woman to win four Olympic gold medals by safely securing her omnium title, matcing her team pursuit and omnium victories from London 2012 in Rio. Laura celebrated her latest Olympic gold by cheering on fiance Jason Kenny as he equalled Sir Chris Hoy’s British record of six Olympic gold medals by winning a dramatic keirin. Jason Kenny now has six Olympic golds from three Games, more than Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Bradley Wiggins. The couple got engaged while sitting on the sofa watching television and now share a cottage in Knutsford, Cheshire. “The difference in their characters is what makes it work for them,” says Laura’s father Adrian. “Until he gets to know you, Jason is a little bit shy. He’s quiet and understated. Laura is bubbly, chatty, just as you see in her interviews.
Laura Trott becomes the UK’s greatest female Olympian
“If they were both like Jason, God only knows how they’d talk about anything. And God forbid having two Lauras in a household!” The relationship between the two began in the build-up to London 2012, with Jason about to come out of Chris Hoy’s herculean shadow at his second Olympics and Laura about to experience her first. “I remember seeing Laura at the velodrome years ago,” says Jason’s mother Lorraine. “I said to my husband, ‘Flipping heck, you need to watch this young lady.’ She was in the elimination race, only a tiny thing, and she kept sprinting over the top of everyone. She was amazing. “The first time I knew something was happening between the two of them was when Jason phoned me up and said, ‘I’m bringing Trotty home for a bacon butty.’ “I said to him, ‘Is she your girlfriend?’ ‘No, she’s just a friend.’
“She made herself at home straight away. Into the house, sat down, feet up on the sofa. “We liked her from the off. She’s a girly girl, so I can talk make-up and clothes to her. It’s such a treat - having had two sons, I’ve had years of remote-control cars and standing out in the rain, and at last I can talk to someone about posh shoes.” Reaction to Laura’s terrific triumph Former Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton: “Laura Trott is incredibly tough and tenacious. She might look fragile but it is the complete opposite of what is going on inside. She always pushes herself to the absolute limit.” Trott’s team-mate Joanna Rowsell Shand on BBC One: “Laura has got a 100% record in the Olympics - she rode twice in London and two here in Rio and she has won all four. That must be a record in itself.” Jessica Ennis-Hill (GBR) competes in the women’s heptathlon high jump event

The Wedding Dress Walk
W
ould you love to wear your wedding dress one more time? Come and join us on Sunday 25th September for the first Wedding Dress Walk from The Stade to The Pier.
This is a short walk from The Stade (Eat@ Café) in Hastings Old Town ending at Hastings Pier, not an endurance walk so suitable for all ages and abilities but what a fantastic sight to see so many lovely ladies in their wedding dresses on the prom. The Sponsored Walk is FREE to enter but we ask you to register for the event and download a sponsorship form by contacting either St. Michael’s Hospice or Empirical Events. There isn’t a minimum sponsorship amount, please just collect as much as you can and all the monies raised will go to St. Michael’s Hospice.
After hearing the amazing news that we will be running the first ever wedding fair on Hastings Pier which will mark the launch of ‘Weddings on Hastings Pier’, we decided there was no better opportunity and if successful it will become an annual fundraising event”. The walk will start at 10am and we will take a leisurely walk to Hastings Pier. We will be accompanied by music, photographers and videographers and would like to raise as much awareness as we can. Please come and join us for our stroll along the prom.
Helen Pomery, Events Director at Empirical Events said, “Since we lost our Mum 3 years ago we’ve tried to do as much as we can as a family to support the services of St. Michael’s Hospice through a variety of fundraising events. As a local wedding fair organiser I have been talking to the hospice for a long time about organising this event but could never decide where and when was the best location to do it. I am in touch with hundreds of local couples who attend our events and I hear ladies say how they loved wearing their dress and what a shame it was that it wouldn’t be worn again, well this is their chance, myself included.

This fully refurbished surgery, with the latest equipment, is the place to go for all your general dental care. The Principal, Dr Esmail Harunani said, “Regular dental checks are really important – it’s key to have a professional check to see what is going on in your mouth every six months for any change. We are welcoming new patients to be registered on the NHS now for a limited time!” NHS treatment is undertaken by all of their dentists. Dentistry For You dentists also undertake private dental treatment so patients already seen on the NHS may wish to mix some private treatment with their NHS treatment, for example cosmetic treatment, which may not be available through the health service. recently went along to Infinite Beauty UK to experience an Environ facial treatment. Vitamin A is the cornerstone ingredient in the Environ skincare philosophy. When combined with other essential skin nutrients like antioxidants and peptides, you begin to see and feel beautiful skin through science. Amanda, my beauty therapist explained the treatment to me very clearly and went through an assessement procedure before commencing the treatment in her beautifully light and spacious treatment room with stunning countryside views. The Ionzyme DF II machine which Amanda used represents a cutting edge process in enhancing the penetration of vitamins into the skin. She explained that this procedure is at the forefront of scientific skincare and is possibly the most effective available in the world today. This is initially applied as a probe to the face and then thrrough a face mask. This series of moisturisers form the vital foundation to a healthier looking skin because they help to put back the essential skin nutrients that daily life and environmental stresses take away. I was confident and secure with all the treatments provided by Amanda and felt that my skin had a real glow to it the following day...... What’s On Editor

Give a Dog a Holiday
Are you a dog lover? Would you enjoy the company of a dog but don’t want the commitment of a dog of your own? I run a home boarding agency (with a little help from my collie Ted) which matches loving dog carers with owners who need someone to look after their pet while they are away on holiday. I will find well-behaved canine guests for you to walk and cuddle for both short and longer stays. So if you enjoy the company of dogs, are at home during the day and can give a dog the exercise and attention it needs then why not become a Wagging Tails carer (and earn some extra money too!)? If you would like to know more about becoming a Wagging Tails carer contact me, Lesley Birch, on 01424 814695 or go to www. waggingtailsuk.co.uk/tn
