Chagstock is one of the Westcountry’s best-loved festivals. Set in 45 acres of farmland on the northern edge of Devon’s beautiful Dartmoor, Chagstock is renowned for its stunning location, diverse line-up of artists & family-friendly atmosphere. Chagstock showcases the very best music, food & entertainment that the Westcountry & the UK have to offer. Returning after the stunning sellout success of last year’s event which featured KT Tunstall, Fun Lovin Criminals, Seth Lakeman & Alabama 3 amongst many others, Chagstock retains its traditional 2day format in 2013. As
introduced last year in recognition of the tough economic climate for families, all children under 12 can attend for free. Chagstock’s capacity is once again capped at just 5,000 tickets to ensure that its intimate, family-friendly atmosphere is maintained. This year’s fancy dress theme will be ‘Circus’ CHAGSTOCK FESTIVAL have announced Mystery Jets as their final main stage headliner for 2013. Seven years & four albums later they are still delighting audiences around the world with hits including as Young Love & Two Doors Down. Mystery Jets will headline Chagstock shortly after supporting Mumford and Sons.
melodic, unashamedly heartfelt reinvention of hiphop leading The Independent to declare, “their folk, rap, spoken word and hymns embody 21st Century folk." Hailing from Western Australia, Emily Barker is a compelling songwriter with a gift for weaving melody & words. Her talent is perfectly complimented by the magnificent arrangements of her three-piece ensemble, The Red Clay Halo. Emily is renowned for writing & recording the theme to the BBC One’s, Wallander, which won a BAFTA & a Royal Television Award. These are exciting times for Cornish sea-shanty punks, Crowns. With a major Dropkick Murphy’s support tour under their belts, Mike Davis playing them on Radio 1, & 2013 festival appearances aside from Chagstock including Glastonbury, Download & Hard Rock Calling, this may well be the year they hit the big time.

Torre Abbey Re-Opens July 2013 Torbay Council owned and operated visitor attraction, Torre Abbey Historic House will reopen in July 2013 after a £4.7m Phase II restoration project which included a £2.8m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Torre Abbey enjoys a prime seafront location in a sensitive Conservation Area in the heart of Torquay. It comprises two Grade I listed buildings, four Grade II listed buildings, an historic garden and Palm House, and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument of national importance. Torre Abbey has been a centre of religious and artistic expression and hospitality for over 800 years. The house has a floor area of nearly 600 square metres, divided into 122 rooms, on twenty levels with 265 individual steps. With its fine gatehouse, guest hall, tower and remarkable undercrofts, the Abbey is the best preserved example of a medieval monastery in Devon and Cornwall. It also has one of the five most complete early medieval tithe barns in England.
Adjacent to the house is the famous 'Spanish Barn' – a medieval tithe barn originally built to store taxes paid to the Abbey in the form of grain and hay. The Abbey, also a museum and art gallery, houses an impressive art collection including pieces by Holman Hunt and Burne-Jones.
As part of Phase II restoration, the Abbey's top floor has become a dramatic and dynamic gallery based around the 800 year history of Torre Abbey. State of the art displays and viewing stations overlooking the stunning marine vista of Torbay show how the building evolved against the history of the local area. You can peruse the building at your leisure or choose one of the family friendly guided tours on offer.
The restoration has also created wonderful new learning spaces, including a new educational activity zone built in the southeast wing, transforming opportunities for students of all ages to get involved and explore the history of the site.
The gardens, which are nestled behind the main house, have remained open during the restoration. There is a wealth of exotic and exciting plants to explore and enjoy. Unusual plants and shrubs are able to thrive here due to the mild English Riviera climate. You can walk through the ruins of the original church, discover 12th century architecture and contemplate life as a medieval monk.
In summer, massed dahlia borders take centre stage along with the many herbaceous perennials, roses and herbs. The Palm House contains tropical plants and palms from around the world and is also home to a cactus collection. It also houses several rare and endangered palms from Kew Gardens and plumerias and gingers known for their flamboyant and perfumed flowers.
The Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie was born in Torquay and spent her summers at nearby Greenway. Many of her books have strong local references but it is her keen interest in plants and their medicinal powers that are celebrated in a potent plant feature in Torre Abbeyʼs gardens. The potent plants display offers an intriguing insight into her murder mysteries and the murky world of poison and treachery. Mayor Gordon Oliver said: “I am delighted with the second phase of restoration to this jewel in Torbayʼs crown. It is helping bring this beautiful building to life with state of the art technology which depicts local history through the ages.
“Since its foundation in 1196, Torre Abbey has witnessed, survived and even played a role in some epic moments of history. It is one of the best buildings in the country to tell the story of 800 years of Catholicism between 1196 and 1930”. “The restoration will tell these stories but also other important local stories and milestones in history. The work took approximately two years to complete during which time the Abbey was closed and so we are looking forward to welcoming visitors back to this wonderfully restored attraction.”
Following the successful delivery of Phase I, Torbay Development Agency was commissioned to oversee Phase II which included restoration of the south range elements and the internal fit out.
Torbay Development Agency Chief Executive, Steve Parrock, said: “Phase II restoration marks a new era for Torre Abbey and will put this historic house and gardens on the map as a South Devon attraction”. “The restoration work has included repairing and stabilising the roof structures, repairing the masonry and restoring lime stucco. It also includes an impressive interpretation project which will commemorate a wealth of local history and heritage.” Traditional materials and skills were needed to complete the project. This has included lime rendering, lime plastering and stonework repairs – needed to meet English Heritage requirements.

STRICTLY 12 – 17 YEAR OLDS ONLY • NO RE-ENTRY • SECURITY / SEARCH POLICY • WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PARKFIELD
THE Nationally Registered Heritage passenger ship Fairmile – Torbay’s longest-operating original Torquay to Brixham ferry – has returned to service after an extensive £160,000 restoration refit. The newly restored historic World War Two heritage ship has just undergone her largest refit since the family-run Greenway Ferry Company saved her in 2009 from being decommissioned in Poole returning her back to service in Torbay where she had plied during war and peacetime – now in her 72nd year. The whole saloon was removed and 75 per cent of her deck replaced. There are new deck shelves, deck beams, deck, floors and two brand new watertight double sheaved bulkheads, plus new seating and two new bars. Will Ford, director of the Greenway Ferry Company, said: “As she defended our country, we are now defending her from the
passage of time through our own financial commitment and with a team of enthusiasts, we know how much this ship is loved in Torbay and have done our bit to ensure that she can be enjoyed by all now and in the future as the bays longest serving passenger ship.” “This will be the first time for her to be seen as she would have looked during her operation period in the Royal Navy as much as health and safety will allow. Her newly restored medical bay on the top deck now dispenses alcoholic medicine in the midst of stretchers from the new 1940’s bar and we have reopened the Ward Room on the lower deck which has been completely refurbished with beautiful leather seats housing the ships original blueprints from WWII . This refit has not just been for the ship but also for passenger comfort. The newly commissioned purpose built porthole awning looks fabulous on the deck
and passengers can now sit in pure comfort on the top and bottom deck and the seats can be folded away to create a massive dance floor for private charters and party boats. Carrying capacity has been increased and passenger facilities modified even to the point of frothy coffee machines, draught beers and ice cream. Our investment into Fairmile and the bay is proof of our commitment to this wonderful area and tourism as a whole not to mention a ship which is the last remaining type of her kind in passenger service from WWII. ” Greenway Ferry also operate services departing from Torquay and Brixham between the two towns for just £1 each way, Sea-Fari Wildlife Cruises and Agatha Christie Experiences to the National Trust property Greenway House, in addition to the wonderful 1940's Vintage Bus which was the ex Mobile Library from TV show Heartbeat.

He’s Britain’s most successful artist with over 250 million record sales worldwide and over 120 top 40 hits. He’s a star of the screen with films like The Young Ones and Summer Holiday. He’s gained millions of loyal fans, and has a place in the UK Music Hall of Fame for his outstanding contribution to British music. With a career spanning six decades, he has become a fixture of the British entertainment world, amassing many gold and platinum discs and awards, including three Brit Awards and two Ivor Novello Awards. He has had more than 130 singles, albums and EPs make the UK Top 20, more than any other artist and holds the record (with Elvis Presley) as the only act to make the UK singles charts in all of its first six decades (1950s– 2000s). He has achieved 14 UK No. 1 24
singles and is the only singer to have had a No. 1 single in the UK in five consecutive decades: the 1950s through to the 1990s. And now, Sir Cliff Richard O.B.E. is returning to the UK in June 2013 for a spectacular Midsummer Nights series of shows, Still Reelin’ and ARockin’, in the most stunning venues in England: Knighted in 1995 – the first rock and roll superstar to be honoured with the title – Cliff has always been a firm favourite with his fans. Incredibly, his 2011 calendar pipped JLS, Justin Bieber and Michael Bublé’s efforts to the post, going on to win the Best Celebrity Retail Calendar award. And his wine, produced in his own Portuguese vineyard, holds Tesco’s record of being the fastest-selling bottle in the supermarket's history.
Cliff says he can’t wait to put on the show of a lifetime. “I'm thrilled to announce I’ll be performing this summer,” he says. “I want to put on a real first-class show for my wonderful fans who’ve supported me throughout the years, so I’ll be singing all the classic hits. Make sure you have your tickets booked, and I’ll see you there!" Cliff is coming to Powderham Castle on Sunday 16th June 2013. Located just outside Exeter, Powderham Castle has a rich 600-year history and is currently home to the Earl and Countess of Devon. It’s set in picturesque parkland, home to over 600 fallow deer.
Tickets are priced at £45, £60, or £90 VIP, plus booking fees, and can be purchased at www.seetickets.com or by calling 0871 220 0260. Tickets will also be available from selected venues.

Cider Press, Torquay, Sunday 19th May 2013 One of Plymouths most popular bands ‘Land of the Giants’ have recently been confirmed to play this year at possibly the most famous music festival in the world - Glastonbury. But for tonight they were doing a one off special gig at the Cider Press, Torquay. The Cider Press situated on Fleet Walk has recently gained a very healthy reputation for putting on regular live entertainment including one of the most high profile regular Jam Nights on a Tuesday night in Torquay. The Land of the Giants are well known throughout the County for their unique style and catchy tunes. In the style of Rock N Roll Dub with a funky twist. Tonights’ gig was particularly special due to the fact that this is one of the last pub gigs they are doing before supporting the Levellers on Saturday 25th May at
32
Volksfest, Cornwall and then on to Glastonbury. The band took to the stage to an enthusiastic audience. Their unique style and charisma was a hit from the offset. At many times during the evening the atmosphere was electric with people dancing and with rapturous applause. One of the many highlights was a fantastic cover of Blackstreets ‘No Diggity’ along with their original material such as ‘Love is Here’, ‘Red Dreds’, ‘It is What it is’ and fantastic songs called ‘Alright Cheryl’, ‘Joanna’ and ‘Love Me If You Dare’. Land of the Giants comprise of Andy on the acoustic guitar & lead vocals, Sam on Electric Guitar, Carl on Bass, Gaz on Trombone, Glyn on Trumpet and highly acclaimed local drummer Mitch Pike – Mitch has played with various
bands in the Bay and tonight he was on top form and fitted into the band very well. There were guest appearances from other players that jammed with the band and this all added to what was for me a very special evening. It was great to see so many happy smiling faces and it was nice to experience a band slightly bigger than the norm. There was no doubt that the Cider Press was the place to be this evening and that’s a fact! For more live music and entertainment at The Cider Press please check the What’s On gig guide and as for Land of the Giants they certainly were Giant this evening. A fantastic night was had by all. Prim and Proper Leisure & Lifestyle Contemporary Gift Event On the August Bank holiday weekend which is the 24th & 25th we have a huge two day event to be held at the Riviera Centre in the main Arena, Torquay. This will be called Prim and Proper Leisure & Lifestyle: Contemporary Gift Event. We’re Kim and Daniella, and we run Shoreline Events and the Prim and Proper Gift House. We have already had three successful “Prim and Proper” Events so far this year in the Torbay area and given the popularity of the events we started an online shop selling the type of gifts and products that can be purchased at our events, the online shop has grown so fast that we are now delighted to announce that we will soon be opening a shop on the high street.
We have lots planned with some really exciting exhibitors. We have Laura Ashley and Zatchels bags taking part in the Fashion Show, keep fit demonstrations, Children’s entertainers, and activities, Health & Beauty, Zapcat Racing, Reach Outdoors (Adventure Company), O’Connor’s Campervans, Gift stalls, Knight riders Car – Kitt, Massive Summer BBQ and much, much more. We planned this event to coincide with the “Torbay Week”, as there will be absolutely loads going on in the bay, with the 200th Anniversary of the Torbay Regatta, Red Arrows, Anderton & Rowlands Fun Fair, the Riviera Eye and fireworks the bay will be bustling. Whatever the weather there will be lots going on indoors and out. At all our events we always raise lots of money for a charity,
this time we have chosen two very worthy causes. We are holding a silent auction of generous donations in aid of The Ryan Edwards Appeal. We will also be supporting Help For Heroes with a huge raffle and a stall with loads of goodies from the charity, we will also be selling Krispy Kremes to raise money for Ilsham C of E Academy, in Torquay. We are both very passionate about the bay, and feel that there are so many wonderfully talented people and businesses in Devon, that will be able to showcase themselves at our event. We hope you can join us for what will be great days out in August. Entry: Adults £2.00, Children (under 16) are free.
For more information about exhibiting or attending our events please email us at: shoreline_events@hotmail. com or call 07551545657.
