VanDerBrink Auctions has more than 10 years of proven experience that will show you how the auction method is a fabulous way to sell your collection, older salvage yard, settle an estate, sell memorabilia, land and more. VanDerBrink Auctions is an auction company that works 100 percent for its sellers and real estate customers.
Yvette VanDerBrink, owner/auctioneer/broker, works one on one with sellers with marketing in mind. VanDerBrink Auctions, LLC specializes in selling collector cars and trucks, collector parts, liquidating old salvage yards, antique tractors, selling farm land, and other items at auction. Yvette VanDerBrink feels that her main goal for her business is helping people. It’s more of a mission than her job. She treats every sale as if it were her own. It’s her hard work ethic that she also brings to every auction or private land deal that is booked. Personal service is also something that she brings to the table. VanDerBrink Auctions makes the auction experience work as a team with her sellers and customers. They work around a plan specially designed with her seller’s auction in mind. VanDerBrink Auctions negotiates all commissions and develops a budget with their sellers along with their auction plan. Yvette feels that all auctions should be treated like an event, and all auctions are promoted nationally and locally along with Internet, no matter how small or large. VanDerBrink Auctions has been nationally recognized for their auctions and marketing of their sales. VanDerBrink Auctions has conducted sales in 12 states, some of which are Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Indiana and as far away as Ohio. VanDerBrink Auctions also can provide video previews on their website of their auctions for customers to get familiar with what they are going to see, along with online catalogs and many pictures. VanDerBrink Auctions also utilizes new social media YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. VanDerBrink Auctions works to use all types of media to work for their clients. VanDerBrink Auctions also conducts many of their auctions online and also live. The Internet has helped prices and competition for our sellers’ items and now an increasing demand for online real
estate and land. VanDerBrink Auctions also has a free E-Newsletter that has more than 4,000 subscribers and they receive all newsletters, sale bills and personal notes from Yvette. Yvette knows it works, when many of her bidders come just to say hi at the auction. VanDerBrink Auctions, LLC has developed a following for their fun and exciting auctions. 2012 was an exciting year, and VanDerBrink Auctions learned even more that planning, time and advertising are key to a successful sale. The market was also back and strong throughout the year. Project cars and good originals were in demand. The rare, unusual and exceptional restorations were also strong. VanDerBrink grew up with the old cars and with a salvage yard background. Her family owns Nordstrom’s Auto Recyclers and knows the importance of the old cars hobby while at the same time understands the salvage business. Yvette also has knowledge of vintage tractors and gas engines. Her husband is a diesel mechanic and was collecting tractors when they got married, and she fell into that hobby with him. 2012 was full of exciting things with selling a rare 1904 Ford to England for $103,000.00 and cars to Israel, Belgium and all over the world from the Les Schuchardt collection in Spearfish, S.D. There was everything from rare steam tractors and collector tractors to many other memorable items, and customers were served and items sold. Yvette loves working with her customers and helping find the treasures they might have and marketing them correctly to get the most money. It’s this personal service that she brings to all her auctions whether land, personal property or collections. The world is a big place and auctions just can’t be “ordinary or routine” anymore. They have to keep up with technology and marketing. Yvette has also written a children’s book and is available at www. mymomlooklikeaturtle.com. A portion of the proceeds from the book sales is going to the Avera Foundation to help women with cancer. She and her husband and Travis Leuttel started T & S Truck Repair in Lismore, Minn., last September and the business is building and bring truck repair, inspections and more to the southwest Minnesota area. She has a daughter, Emily, who is a sophomore in college and a son, Johnathon, a sophomore in Luverne High School. VanDerBrink Auctions is excited about every year. Yvette just loves her job and is so thankful to the Lord and the work that He is doing with her business. Every year she approaches the business with enthusiasm and tries to fill up the calendar.

Auctions have been an American tradition for hundreds of years, but only recently have they tied together the diversity of bidders and sellers through the internet. Keith Sharer Auctions combines the innovation of online bidding and selling with the old school charm of live auctions to produce a company that maximizes results for everyone involved. Whether you’re bidding or selling a rarity that requires a broad outreach, or a product in demand specifically for your area, Keith Sharer Auctions will bring you straight to your needs. This family owned business grew out of passion and hard work. Sharer was raised in rural America where he spent his time attending many livestock production sales and farm auctions. He gained a knack for the business, and Sharer decided that the auction industry is what he would plant his roots in. If you go to any auction, you know that an auction’s success does not come without
March 2013
persistence. Sharer quickly picked up on this, saying that, “It is not a business where success comes without paying the typical dues of hard work and learning from others.” He set off on the path to his own auction business by attending Missouri Auction School in 1984. Sharer’s experience and determination has earned him a successful, multidimensional, family owned auction business. Keith Sharer Auctions belongs to the Minnesota State Auctioneers Association and the State and National Real Estate Association, an assurance to many customers that their bidding and selling is cared for by trusted professionals. Connecting with these associations also keeps Keith Sharer Auctions abreast of law changes and fields of expertise. “It’s great to employ and empower the knowledge of another professional to gain maximum results for the client.”

Though Keith Sharer Auctions’ roots are based in central Minnesota, they branched out to serve the wide range of customer needs, including efficiency and quality. They purchased Granite Realty of Minnesota for bidding and selling in a conventional manner. Their indoor facility not only provides comfort, but the guarantee that auctions will not be hindered by Minnesota snow or storms. Keith Sharer Auctions can be held year-round, making their company’s sellers grow in great numbers, which gives bidders a great advantage and opportunity to discover diverse products. This company hosts both occasional online and consistent on-site auction opportunities to cater to a broad customer basis. They specialize in real estate, farm, antique, estate, and business liquidation auctions. His team stands out from the competition by providing fundraising and benefit auctions and personal property appraisals. If you’re looking to sell, Keith Sharer Auctions handles the entire process from preparation, marketing, and presentation. “The auction business is like any other business in that change is constant,” Sharer said on describing their need to diversify marketing techniques. This auction company ensures bidders, nationally, will know of sellers’ merchandise through sale bills, news print, radio, and online through websites and social media. Keith Sharer Auctions will also “analyze the cost benefit to determine which way to best market assets to affordably reach the greatest amount of buyers.” If you’re looking to bid in this auction business, you can guarantee the merchandise will be detailed and well organized, whether in person or online. If you simply do not have the time to
Page 12
travel to an on-site auction, Keith Sharer Auctions often provides the convenience of online bidding. If you do have the time for the live auction experience, Keith Sharer Auctions’ hold weekly consignment, estate and antique auctions in their indoor facility. The company “consistently sees extra value in viewing, touching, inspecting, and admiring a potential purchase,” and have an atmosphere that makes this possible. The rush of an auction is upped a level by combining live bidding and online bidding simultaneously. Keith Sharer Auctions’ experienced staff takes pride in their knowledge of merchandise which translates into a professional bidding and selling experience for their customers. Auctioning does not have to be without guidance, and their employees provide as much as requested to ensure customers are getting a top notch experience. Whether you are bidding, downsizing, selling an estate or liquidating a lifelong collection, you can participate and count on Keith Sharer Auctions year-round. You can take part in the Keith Sharer Auction experience by attending their auctions any time of the year online or on-site by visiting their website through midwestauctions. com, calling them at 320-267-1963, or attending their auctions at 6774 Highway 25 Northeast, in Foley, Minnesota

The unspoken heroes in the rodeo arena often do not get acknowledged for the sacrifices they and their horses make to keep both the cowboy and livestock safe. The PICKUP man is the hardest-working and least known professionals of the rodeo circuit. On an average night’s work you can catch the pickup man and his horse rescuing riders, wrangling livestock, and persuading recalcitrant one-ton bulls and broncs to give up the spotlight and exit the arena. At every rodeo there are at least two PICKUP men doing an excellent job getting to the rider as fast as they can to help. They know that their job is to keep the lives of the cowboys and the livestock safe. Jeff Rector, a Minnesota hometown hero, is a pickup man for The World’s Toughest Rodeo and several other different circuits within the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Jeff Rector received his Professional Card at 18 and shortly
after turning 19 years-old Rector became involved with ProRodes. His first pro rodeo was in Kingman, Kansas. Jeff has been hooked on rodeo ever since that rodeo in Kansas. In 7th grade the “city slicker, horse-crazy kid” convinced his grandpa to buy him his first horse. “Which was pretty easy,” Rector said. Rector’s grandpa loved horses as a child, too, so enjoyed watching his grandson become more and more involved with horses and riding. Mr. Rumford, a rodeo producer/ stock contractor out of Kansas, hired Jeff for his first rodeo. He still teaches and mentors Jeff on how to be a good cowboy, to properly care for his horses and how to market himself to get hired for more and bigger rodeos. As a result of Mr. Rumford’s dedication to Jeff’s marketing and training, Jeff was selected to work seven Circuit Finals rodeos as well as the top rodeo in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, the Copenhagen Cup Tour Finale in Dallas, Texas in 2001. This was the most treasured accomplishment of Rector’s career. A pickup man is the only cowboy on the dirt that is guaranteed a check, making this Jeff’s dream career. Dodge also sponsors the Pickup men; the man get bonuses each year and they wear Dodge clothing while in the arena. The pickup man is also known as the Ram Pickup Men. Dodge tough isn’t only for trucks. These guys are strong, fast and dependable.
MarchPage21 Page 2013
During most rodeo performances, the PICKUP man uses five horses through-out the night. Each horse has to be broken to the event that they are used in. “I always ride quarter horse because of their athletic ability and speed. I try to use a bigger horse during the saddle bronc riding because the saddle bronc horses tend to be a little bigger than the bareback horses,” said Jeff Rector as I interviewed him. A pickup horse has to be able to
get in close enough to bucking bulls or broncs for the pickup man to help a dismounted rider get to safety. The strength of a rider and the horse are very critical because pulling a rider up to safety or roping livestock and pulling stock out of the arena requires the tremendous strength of moving a heavy mass often at high speeds and in awkward positions . Even though the crowd doesn’t always see the PICKUP man, riders’ lives depend on the PICKUP teams. During an 8-second ride, the rider is always focused and knows where the PICKUP men are located in the arena. During a thrilling event, two pickup men are used at all times. The first priority is to get the cowboy off the bucking horse or bull and then to safely escort the animal out of the arena. In case you think you have the stuff to be a pickup man, Jeff has this advice, “To make it in this business you have to ready to sacrifice a lot. You have to be away from home, travel a lot and practice a lot to perfect your skills. You must never let anything or anyone discourage you.” Just between you and me, I think Jeff is an all-around nice guy who may be just a tad on the humble side. I think it takes talent, intelligence and love of the craft. Jeff has all that and more.
