ack was introduced to snowmobiling three years ago when Jeff Cottew of Cottew Motorsports, offered him a chance to ride one of his son’s sleds. Zack had never ridden on a snowmobile before this, so his first year was basically getting used to the sled and the tracks. People thought his father was crazy to take him out to Bessemer, Michigan, but Zack survived it. By the end of the season he was doubling the whoops and took a 5th place overall for his class.

WoT RACE TEAM: Zack Robinson Written by Stacy and Jodie Robinson Photography by Bailey Sens Photography
His second year racing, he came out on a mission to prove to everyone that this was something he loved and wanted. One of the best experiences he had was going to the Learn to Ride Clinic at ERX, Motor Park. He got some invaluable information from the top drivers in the sport, one of them being Kyle Palin of Team LaVallee. Then at a regional event at his home town track while he was rippin through the whoops he cased the top of one and caught one of the flags and flew off the track with the snowmobile landing on his leg. Zack ended up with two tibia plateau fractures.
Unfortunately, he was not able to race again until the oval race at ERX Motor Park in March where he came out with no fear and took a First place and a second place. He is starting his third year and was accepted into the Polaris race program now racing for the Polaris racing Team. With that honor he was able to upgrade his sled and got a 2015 Polaris 600 IQR race sled. His first week of practice has been good one and the team mechanic has been busy making adjustments to the sled and getting it race ready. Zack is conditioning and getting his body ready for racing. His first race will be over Thanksgiving weekend in Duluth, Minnesota. wo years ago Brittani was introduced to Snocross by Wheels of Thunder Motorsports in which they gave her an opportunity to participate in a race. She immediately fell in love with the sport! Brittani grew up riding snowmobiles her whole life and was intrigued by racing them. She grew up in a racing family, starting with her grandfather, John Robinson, who drag raced cars. Her father, Buddy Robinson, drag raced motorcycles professionally. Brittani’s uncle, Scott Robinson, also drag raced cars. Down the line of generations of racing, Brittani’s cousin, Zack Robinson, was the first to break the drag racing trend and began Snocross. Brittani often went to watch and cheer him on; she loved the entire atmosphere and wanted to get more involved.

“I restored this bike in 2009. It was a one owner bike that showed its age and was pretty run down when I got it. It came from a very nice retired teacher in Coral Springs, FL who bought the bike new in 1971 while living in New Jersey. The only reason he was selling it was that he was getting older, and was having trouble with kick starting it, as these early XS650s are kick start only. He was totally jazzed that I was going to restore his baby! We became friends and we still keep in touch.”

After I purchased the bike online (Ebay), I was ecstatic! I had wanted an XS1B for a long time, and now I had one!! After my euphoria faded I started to get concerned about getting another motorcycle past the CFO of our household.... namely my wife Melissa! With about seven bikes in the barn already, I knew she would not find the same joy in my new acquisition that had found. I soon hatched a plan... The idea was to take my wife on a weeklong getaway to Key West (her favorite place), on the way back we stop in Coral Springs, pick up the bike, and we're on our way. How could she be mad at me after 4 or 5 days in the sun? After all, it was mid January and winter was in full swing....it was perfect. So, the plan was set in motion, and about a month later we were on the road in my pick up on our way to the southern most point in the continental US! My wife knew I was up to something after a few phone calls I made to the owner of the bike on the way down, but she didn't know what. I told her we might stop to visit a friend on the way back to pick up some parts. I'm always wheelin' n dealin so she just rolled her eyes ever so slightly and didn't say much about it.
my new toy out for a ride so the first warm weekend we had, I took my wife out for a ride and the bike broke down about 30 miles from home..... lesson learned there! I take my restores down to each bolt every time, so I'll save you the in-depth details. Suffice it to say that I stripped the bike down completely and rebuilt it replacing, repairing, or rebuilding anything that was in need, along with a few modern upgrades as well, here is the list. new NOS wiring harness new flat style main fuse new modern halogen headlight new GEL battery new Pamco electronic ignition new coils and wires new iridium NGK spark plugs (you should try them, they are awesome! made a BIG difference and provides a great reliable spark) new modern solid state rectifier and regulator (great improvement on these older bikes as the stock units were marginal at best even when new). new tapered steering head bearings new bronze swing arm bushings new modern shocks new O-ring chain new tires and tubes new fork seals and fresh 20 weight fork oil Not to mention a ton of smaller parts and hardware, and a lot of cosmetics.
We enjoyed 2 days in Naples and 4 days in Key West, it was great! Then on the way back when we pulled up to the house, she saw the bike sitting in the guys driveway and she looked puzzled. When she realized what was happening she said, "I thought we were just picking up parts?" I just smiled and told her that it was parts, a whole bikes worth of parts....Lol! In the end she wasn't mad at all, bless her heart, she is a great girl! Now she loves the bike as much as I do, and we ride it together often. I originally paid $1600 for the bike, and I'm sure I've put a little over $2000 into it, not counting my labor. The bike Anyway, the bike was in running condition but was never runs flawlessly and turns heads EVERYWHERE! It's super maintained the way it should have been, but it was all reliable now, and like I said before I'm not really doing this there, just the way I like em. I was very anxious to take for profit....I love these old girls.

A TRAGEDY – HANDS UP OR HANDS DOWN For those of you that do not have a television, IPad, read the newspaper or hang out at a coffee shop or bar. Let me bring you up to speed on what may be an historical event, (did I just say historical) ok, let’s say controversial. On August 9th, 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri a rather big, smug 18 year old was shoplifting at a neighborhood convenience store and rousting the shop owner. The thug-like moments were caught on surveillance camera and showed the 6’6” Michael Brown pushing around the shop owner, a rather short, middle aged immigrant before exiting with an armful of Cigarillos. The bully-like video could have been any neighborhood in the United States. It happens every day; however, most go unreported for fear of neighborhood retaliation. For those of you that have never traveled through or had business in the “HOOD”, it is quite an experience. I can recall one of my trips back from Michigan and stopping in Gary, Indiana - home of the Jackson Five. The rest stop lasted less than ten minutes, as we had stopped for gas only to be pelted with rocks and bottles by a bunch of local thugs. But I did manage to get a souvenir tee shirt that said, “I was attacked in Gary, Indiana but I BEAT IT” Jackson Style. Being from the big city I should have known better, but us East Coasters “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough”. (Another Jackson Hit). The point is despite what the liberals say, it is Black and White, it is Rich or Poor and it is Cops and Robbers. I am all for recognizing your heritage, your ethnic upbringing and your traditions. But what burns my ass is when you encounter some lily white punk that is wearing his pants well below the crack of his ass or a rather large white girl that just took an Ebonics class. I can tell you this first hand they would crap their pants and drop the ghetto lingo if they came face to face with Page 14
some real bad boys from the hood. Back in Ferguson, Michael “Big Mike” Brown was making his way back through the neighborhood with his booty from the
convenience store. Around the same time Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson was responding to an emergency call that a two year old was not breathing. Officer Wilson was assisting and waiting for EMT’s to arrive takes care of the victim. At scene of the stolen Cigarillos’ Ferguson Market and Liquor, someone had called 911 and gave a detailed description of the two men. The next minute a dispatcher gives a description of one of the suspects over radio and that the suspects are on foot walking toward the neighborhood Kwik Trip. The lo-

cation is in close proximity of where Officer Wilson is tending to the sick child. As Officer Wilson is departing the scene he comes upon the two men that fit the description walking down the middle of the road. An exchange of words, a few choice expletives and a hand to hand battle all within a matter of a minute and then bang the fatal shots that took “Big Mike” to the ground. Now depending on whom you talk to the version of story differs. Why, you say? Mike is a street kid that is black; Darren is a cop that is white. From the beginning this case had the black matriarchs jumping on the Michael Brown band wagon alleging all kinds of inaccurate witness accounts. One such pot stirrer was the infamous and scary looking Revered Al
Sharpton. This so called leader of the African American community does nothDecember 2014
did they think that a late night decision would calm the festering community? All the planning that I heard about the National Guard protecting the neighborhood shops and the police calming and managing the people was nowhere to be seen. In the matter of an hour the streets were a blaze with police cruisers burning, neighborhood shops, and restaurants burnt to the ground. The lively hood of their fellow neighbors that worked their ass off to start and own a successful business was snuffed out by some punk because they listen to voice of the devil and the likes of their so called community activist that were actually the new Black Panther party in disguise.
ing but incite the weak minded followers to hate white people. I grew up with some white guys that would be considered thugs, bullies and criminals. Some of these guy’s lives were cut short much like Michael Brown, all due to their antics that they are invincible and indestructible. The Michael Browns of the world, White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, etc. make the papers every day, big city and rural America. Usually these bad boy crimes or deaths end up on page 36 of the local newspaper with the end of story line “details and names to follow later”. Later means obituary column. Al Sharpton can get on his podium and blast the man, the cop, the color of one’s skin, but the bottomline more blacks are killed by blacks. Reverend’s Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the Anti- American and Racist Jeremiah Wright would never hold a press conference because a black thug killed a black thug. Why? It’s not a newsworthy story for the media hogs.
and make the determination that the case goes to trial or not. Like many of us that were not sitting in that room for the last several weeks we did not hear all the facts, our only communication outlet was CNN, HLN and FOX. Those cable media rating whores brought forth many spokes people and experts from both sides of the issue to continue to stir the pot. The long drawn out meeting of the grand jury only stoked the fire until the day of the decision, or should I say night of the decision. What were they thinking when they delayed the announcement until the late evening? I know they figured the black community would be in bed by 8:00 PM to get up for school or work the next morning. That is not a shot at the black community but it is a stab at the leaders of law enforcement in the St Louis area. Seriously
What these rioters don’t realize is that these businesses will never return to the place they once called home. Watching the looters smash the windows, grab as much loot as they could and then burn it to the ground was sickening. Every one of those so called community leaders, elected officials and people that hide behind the title of a reverend should be ashamed of themselves. I think all of us watched the shitheads ISIS take control of a city, kill the inhabitants and burn the place to the ground. As Americans – (no colored needed) it was appalling? Other than the slaughter was the display in Ferguson much different? Do you think for one minute that those pieces of garbage known as ISIS were not watching the display of Americans pissing on our constitutional rights? As my title reflects good guy, bad guy, destroyed community and economics of the Missouri area the event was a Tragedy…….hands down!
From the day that this incident happened to the press conference releasing the Grand Jury’s decision to exonerate Officer Wilson did the black leaders like an Al Sharpton offer the community any guidance in the due process of the American Constitution. That the reason we have freedoms of speech and Religion, the right to bear arms legally, the right to vote and the 5th Amendment Indictment by grand jury. These people of the Grand Jury, black and white were selected to hear the witness accounts, see and listen to the hard evidence December 2014

ob Vandergriff Jr. confirms he will not be driving a top fuel dragster for the 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Series. Vandergriff will start his new direction solely as the team owner with Bob Vandergriff Racing next year, as the team plans to field two Top Tuel dragsters driven by three-time Top Fuel Champion Larry Dixon and 25-time NHRA Pro Stock winner Dave Connolly. Dixon and Connolly’s dragsters will be sponsored by C&J Energy Services. Crew Chiefs will remain Kurt Elliott and Mike Guger

Dixon and Connolly to Drive Two-Car BVR Team in 2015 Vandergriff said, "It's no secret that I've been planning on exiting the driver seat. With the increasing demands of running thebusiness, that time has come. I'm excited about my new role and it's actually recharged my batteries. I'm thrilled about the new direction for BVR. We have a three-time world champion in Larry Dixon and I've been able to hire someone who I consider one of the best natural drivers in the sport, Dave Connolly, to take over for me.” Vandergriff began driving a Top Fuel Dragster in 1994 and was voted Rookie of Year in his first season in the NHRA. While making the final round several times, Vandergriff’s first NHRA win eluded him until
2011 at the Texas Fall Nationals in Dallas. He now has three wins and 17 final round appearances under his belt. “I want to thank Josh Comstock and the entire C&J Energy Services Team for all their support of BVR over the years and their continued sponsorship as Dave and Larry begin a new era for our racing program,” said Vandergriff. Dave Connolly makes the jump from Pro Stock where he is currently third in the standings, only 51 points behind leader Jason Line. Connolly has had a very successful career in racing. He has 25 wins in Pro Stock and four as a sportsman competitor. He became only the fourth driver in drag racing history who has won five consecutive NHRA Pro Stock events. He has been to the final round 47 times. Besides Pro Stock, he also drives the GMPartsNow.com COPO Camaro in Stock Eliminator at selected races. “It’s kind of crazy. I’ve never really thought about driving Top Fuel, mainly because the opportunity wasn’t there. When Bob approached me, it really sparked my interest,” said Connolly. “Top Fuel is the fastest car on the planet. I’ve driven everything else, so I’m up to the challenge.” Connolly went on to add, “I’ve been driving a Pro Stock car or working on one since 2003; it’s what I have lived. It’s going be hard to step aside from all that and the people I’ve worked with but at the same time, it's a great opportunity for my future in drag racing.” Dixon came to BVR earlier this season where he has been driving a second top fuel dragster on a part-time basis. After getting his top fuel license in 1994, Dixon went on to win 62 NHRA races and capture three NHRA Championships. He has competed in 108 final rounds. "As I've said before, I am thrilled Bob gave me the opportunity to drive his car and I am happy we have been able to qualify

consistently in the top ten and contend for round wins and race wins. Being part of Bob’s team has made racing fun again,” said Dixon. “It'll be great to have Dave as a teammate. He is such an accomplished racer I would expect him to take to fuel racing like a duck to water.” As for looking ahead to 2015, Dixon added, "It's been a few years since I've competed for a Mello Yello Championship and I'm

looking forward to the full tour with Bob’s team. He has great equipment and has assembled a talented group of guys and I feel honored he wants me to be a part of it.” C&J Energy Services’ Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Josh Comstock said, “I am proud of our long relationship with Bob Vandergriff and his racing team. Bob’s integrity and selfless approach has been obvious throughout his career. When

we first started our sponsorship with BVR, we were a small company with around 130 employees. We will soon have over 11,000 employees and Bob has been with us every step of the way. He always puts his team and C&J ahead of himself and has made several introductions—literally making the connection between C&J and key vendors—that have enhanced our supply chain and resulted in substantial savings for C&J. He also made the initial introduction to key industry leaders in The Middle East, which resulted in our establishing a strong presence for growth in the region. On the track, Bob captured all his career championship wins while driving the C&J Energy Services top fuel dragster, which is an achievement I am personally very proud of. Although I will miss watching him drive, I look forward to working with him in this new phase of his career where he will continue to support our growth and enhance the racing and sponsorship programs. I also want to welcome Larry Dixon, who will be racing for us full time, and Dave Connolly, who is new to the BVR and C&J team for 2015. Both are great talents and together I'm confident we will have much success”

Several years ago, Doug Fontaine and Bryan Timmer recognized the need to promote ice oval racing at a grass roots level. Their goal was to introduce potential new driver to ice racing, which would be affordable and safe. Fontaine and Timmer informally named the organization the ORA or Oval Racers Alliance. They have logged many hours and miles to promote ice oval racing at events such as HayDays, the Princeton Grass Drags and the Grantsburg World Championship watercross race. In the summer of 2009, Fontaine and Timmer recognized an ever greater need for Ice Oval Racing, which is to have affordable racing for promoters, sponsors, and race teams. Fontaine and Timmer put
together a seasoned team of snowmobile racing organizers. Their team of officers and directors are formally designated as a nonprofit organization known now as Oval Racers Alliance, Inc. Our Mission Statement The Oval Racers Alliance will represent the ice oval snowmobile racers, fans, promoters, and sponsors in a professional manner. The goal of the ORA is to promote growth and awareness of ice oval racing. The ORA will remain true to our cause and work diligently to promote ice oval racing to it’s maximum potential. Our Staff President: Vice President: Treasurer: Secretary: Board Members:

All Board members work on a volunteer basis. Brief History of Vintage Racing The sport of vintage snowmobiling began in the late 1980’s as collectors started restoring these old sleds, it was to be expected that someone would start racing them. Vintage snowmobile racing has grown from just a few riders competing for “bragging rights” to several race circuits competing across the northern Snow Belt. December 2014

Vintage snowmobiling and vintage racing have grown so much over the last five years that they are now one of the largest segments of snowmobiling. All brands of sleds from the 1970’s and 1980’s are represented. Vintage Snowmobile racing has become a popular family activity for many reasons. Racers are separated into classes based on their experience level and the type of snowmobile used. There are classes for inexperienced racers, and challenging classes for those drivers with a slightly larger budget. We offer several 1985 and older Super Stock, 1985 and older Super Mod Leaf Spring, and 1983 and older IFS Snow Pro classes. The Junior and Powder Puff classes, where drivers don’t have to pay a fee to race, allows the whole family to take part in the weekend of fun About SnowmobilingRacing.MN SnowmobileRacing.MN was created as a place to promote Snowmobile Racing in all

hen a lot of people hear about The Strip, understandably, Las Vegas is what comes to mind. For drag racing fans, you can enjoy 2 of them when you’re in that town; Las Vegas Boulevard and The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Both consistently peg the fun meter. My wife Cathy and I are children of the 60’s (and we’re in our 60’) so, like almost everyone our age, The Beatles are one of our favorite bands. Fortunately, LOVE, one of the amazing Cirque Du Soleil shows on the original strip, is based on their music so checking it out was on our “to do” list. Hearing and experiencing a big part of the soundtrack of our youth was a hoot and a half. What a night.

The gift shop has an interesting array of Beatles goodies. The one that caught my eye isn’t for sale; a Paul McCartney signed Hofner bass guitar. Our journeys along Las Vegas Boulevard always reveal something new. For Cathy and me, a stop or 2 at Fashion Show Mall is time well spent. As a Brooklyn, New York kid, a stop at Grimaldi’s Pizza near the Brooklyn Bridge was always a great stop. They have opened a Fashion Show location so it was pizza for 2 and a cannoli for 1 (me) a couple of days in Las Vegas. We’re just doing our part to help the local economy. Staying with music from our generation, seeing All Shook Up, an Elvis tribute show was enjoyable. After the concert Cathy and I had our photo taken with Elvis. Thank you very much. A stop at the Venetian is always something we find time to do and, good news here, the ice cream is as tasty as it was last year. The Venetian is an interesting resort. As one of our favorite comedians, Rita Rudner pointed out, “Where else can you take a gondola ride to The Gap? No surprise here, New York New York is one of the resort/casinos we find time for and our October stop proved to be a lot of fun. The drivers with Don Schumacher Racing were on the Brooklyn Bridge December 2014
replica for a meet and greet/autograph session the day before professional qualifying started so for us, that’s a mandatory attendance event. Tony Schumacher had his dragster there and it proved to be an eye catcher for everyone that walked across the bridge. Funny Car pilot Tommy Johnson, Jr. drove the Make-A-Wish fuel coupe at the Las Vegas race. At the autograph table,
Tommy got a helping hand from Austin Zimmerline. When asked about his wish, Austin knew exactly what he wanted to do; drive a race car. He told his wish granters “If I could put on a racing suit and win a race that would make my dream come true”. With Tommy as his co-pilot, Austin went down the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in a 2 seat race car and earned a Wally when they turned on the win light. www.WheelsofThunder.net

Cathy and I saw Don Garlit’s final career win at a race in Pomona, we were in the stands when Tony Schumacher ran 337.58 mph years ago during qualifying at Brainerd International Raceway and Resort and we were at LVMS in 2001 for the opening of the drag strip. We have seen our share of memorable racing moments. The win Tommy and Austin earned in Las Vegas is now on the list. Cathy and I have never seen 2 racers happier after a run. Hey Austin, The Beatles are right, “I get by with a little help from my friends”. That’s how, since its inception in 1980 Make-A-Wish (www.wish.org) has granted more than 240,000 wishes Some of the race teams stay in the hotel Cathy and I enjoy so seeing them there happens frequently. We were in the lobby getting ready to see what the day had in store for us when we saw Funny Car racer
John Force. For me that had “photo opportunity” written all over it and John graciously posed for a few pictures, so that was fun. One morning on our way to breakfast we shared an elevator ride with Page 34
Pro Stock motorcycle racers Hector Arana, Jr. and his brother Adam. For the racers in Las Vegas, the long-distance award for travel may have gone to Pro Stock Motorcycle newcomer Elvira Karlsson of Sweden. Tuner Greg Under-
dahl, Indy Pro Stock Bike winner in 1992 with racer Dave Schultz riding and in 1995 with Rick Ward, is helping Elvira and his son Jimmy in the early stages of their racing careers. I’m confident the veterans at the race appreciated seeing the Hiring Our Heroes rig and matching Monster Truck. Representatives with ResumeEngine.org were on site to assist anyone that has hon-

increased following another successful season. Located near the Hire Our Heroes rig in the Toyota racing area was a Funny Car fans were invited to sit in. Sign me up. I’m reasonably certain that was the only chance I’ll have to get that view. I drove a Toyota for years but mine had, let’s see, about 9,850 less horsepower. While Cathy and I were in the pits we noticed Kendall Oil Pro Stock driver V. Gaines; he was chatting with someone about the assorted aches and pains those in our age group have to deal with and it sounded like we have a lot in common. As I told V., “At our age, if it’s working, it’s hurting”. Everyone that heard that laughed and agreed. Then again, as a friend told me recently, “We didn’t get this old by being stupid”, so we’ve got that going for us. Seeing Jeff Arend in Big Jim Dunn’s ALO Drink Funny Car and Tony Pedregon in the American Racing fuel coupe was enjoyable. Big Jim and Tony, and his brother Cruz, have been in the sport for decades and it shows. They know how to race and that makes it fun for the fans. Those teams don’t specialize in oil-downs, they race straight up. Like a lot of drag racing fans I always enjoy seeing 2012 Funny Car champion Jack Beckman on the track. He was driving December 2014
NHRA history will do well when she has a full season of racing available for the 2015 season. In the 1960’s one of the first Funny Cars I saw was the Tasca Ford Mustang. Bob Tasca III had a 10,000 horsepower pony at Las Vegas and is carrying on a family tradition.
the Infinite Hero Foundation car. An Infinite Hero veteran was interviewed on the replay screen and I emailed Jack for background information. Always accessible to his many fans, Jack sent the following about a fellow veteran: “Warrant Officer Gary Linfoot, Special Forces helicopter pilot; paralyzed when his chopper crashed. Infinite Hero gave him an exoskeleton so he and his wife, Mary, can help provide input to make future generations of the device better”. When I was in the Don Schumacher Racing pit area, Tommy Johnson, Jr. gave me access so I could obtain a business card from a DSR representative in order to get some information about the Make-A-Wish car and I had the opportunity to have a brief conversation with Warrant Officer Linfoot. It is an honor to thank those that have served this nation. I recall a member of the Vietnam veteran’s organization I am in telling me years ago: “We are members of a fraternity unlike any other”.
was ready to go and with Spencer out of the championship chase, it was time to put it on the track. I saw it in the pits and it looked fast standing still. Don’t be at all surprised if the Fort Worth, Texas native is a major player next year. Seeing 3 time Pro Stock Motorcycle champion Angelle Sampey back at the races was very nice. I expect the most successful female racer in
October was breast cancer awareness month and I was pleased to see the numbers of cars that used pink in their paint schemes and, in some cases, pink parachutes. 2014 Indy Funny Car winner Alexis Dejoria did both. She and her team’s primary sponsor, Patron Spirits, Kalitta Motorsports and the Nevada Health Center provided the support necessary to made free mammogram screening available for the second consecutive year. Sponsorships that highlight veteran’s related issues and
With a few months left in the 2014 season, Spencer Massey’s 2015 Red Fuel dragster support cancer research are among the reasons Cathy and I have been NHRA members for years. Seeing side-by-side 300 and 200 mph cars and motorcycles that near the double century speed mark is fun but there is a lot more than racing associated with the world’s largest motorsports sanctioning organization.

2014 ELECTIONS AND BEYOND FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 2014
Contact: Jeff Hennie, Motorcycle Riders Foundation Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs 2014 Elections and Beyond Now that the dust has settled on the 2014 election ,the Motorcycle Riders Foundation issues its reflections on what just happened. As you probably already know, it was a good night for Republican candidates with the pick up of some unlikely Gubernatorial, Senate and House seats. The election ultimately gave the Republicans a Senate majority and the largest Republican House majority since 1929. Some say that the Republicans received a mandate from the country on their conservative platform: that is a little far fetched, considering the President's dismal approval rat-
ings and the tradition of a second term president's party receiving a walloping at the polls in the midterm elections. President Obama has also inserted himself and his policies into the fabric of peoples daily lives, and that has not had the desired effect-just the opposite actually. The Republicans managed to capture seven additional Senate seats and possibly more, as Virginia is still too close to call. The Louisiana Senate race, according to state election law, must go to a run off in the coming weeks with polls identifying the Republican candidate with a healthy lead over the incumbent. The Republicans will have a slight majority with less than the 60 votes needed for full control. Mitch McConnell is apparently the heir to the Majority Leader position after handily defending his seat against a worthy adversary. The Republicans also held onto and even expanded their robust
control of the U.S. House of Representatives. They padded their majority, elected the first black Republican woman, and are set to re-elect speaker Boehner. Speaking of women, this Congress is now the first to elect 100 women to the House and Senate. Longtime motorcycle champion and House transportation committee member Nick “Nicky Joe Rahall (D-WV) lost his bid for a 20th term in the House. We are sad to see him go, and his loyalty to the motorcycling community will be missed. Republicans also won some very unforeseen Governors races, most notably in Massachusetts and Maryland: both were stunning upsets in solid blue states. Whether the Republicans had a great midterm because of thier policies, President Obama's unpopularity, or if the Democrats just had bad candidates is up to you to decide.
