Participating restaurants offer specific menus featuring hyper-seasonal or limited-availability ingredients and, oftentimes, dishes that are not generally on their regular menus, allowing diners to get a new taste of chefs’ culinary talents and creativity.
Typically, more than 150 restaurants around the state participate. www.arizonarestaurantweek.com

While Scottsdale is home to a plethora of celebrity chef-driven restaurants—and yes, big chains—there’s also been a surge of smaller destinations opening lately. One of the newest is Kuko’s Nest, a fast-casual Greek restaurant opened by longtime Valley restaurateur and Greece native Maria Tobras.
Kuko’s Nest’s menu features a variety of scratch-made options created from family recipes, including chicken dinners, kabobs, gyros, Greek-style potatoes, salads, and house-made loukoumades (the traditional golden puffs covered in honey syrup).

ARBOLEDA
Renowned restaurateurs Björn Kock and brothers Mitchell and Steven Rosenthal worked with designer Mark Zeff to create the stunning space at Arbolda, an elevated Mediterranean concept.
Zeff felt that it was important to have an elegant, warm, and organic open concept. The result is a space with floor-to-ceiling windows that open to a patio; a deep gray barrel-vaulted ceiling; and the centerpiece of it all, a 14-foot olive tree.
“Arboleda means grove of trees in Spanish,” explains Kock. “We wanted the space to have that organic feel and sense of space; playful but beautifully refined. We want people to be engrossed in the whole experience, not just what is on their plate.”
The design was meant to make diners feel like they are on the coast of Spain or Latin America.
Menu options here use locally and globally sourced ingredients
from Cavatelli Carbonara to Iberico Pork "Pluma" to charred Portuguese Octopus.

CARCARA
A 14-foot-tall chestnut oak tree grows through the wood trellis in the center of Carcara's dining room. Carcara is the signature restaurant located on the ground floor of the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown, and is a favorite of locals and visitors alike. Outside, the 2,000-squarefoot patio is lined with Cara Cara orange trees, the inspiration and namesake for the restaurant that celebrates the Sonoran region, which weaves into the entire restaurant experience.
Local, indigenous, and seasonal ingredients are worked into a menu of Native American and Sonoran-inspired cuisine such as
Ancho Chile Shrimp Tacos and Organic Airline Chicken.
In addition to its tree, inviting decor, and its lunch, dinner, and happy hour, Carcara is a popular place for breakfast and weekend brunch.

TOCA MADERA
Toca Madera’s signature design features include Arabesque accents, handcrafted custom woodwork, and numerous fire elements, all contributing to a modern organic aesthetic—which includes the large tree that is a focal point of the design.
Toca Madera opened its first locale in West Hollywood in 2015, reimagining traditional Mexican cuisine with a modern approach, and pairing locally sourced ingredients with bold flavors.
Its shared-plate menu is designed to offer something for everyone, with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available.

SUMO MAYA
Dine on Mexican and Asian dishes, as well as fusion cuisine, at this stunning restaurant in Scottsdale. There are tacos, ceviches, noodles, sushi, and more, as well as a plethora of innovative cocktails.
Although there’s an outdoor patio, those who dine inside will still feel like they are outdoors thanks to the large tree in the center of the restaurant. There is also an open kitchen with rail seating, an outdoor “living wall,” floor-to-ceiling windows, and a partially enclosed patio that makes it easy to enjoy the outdoors year-round.

The Commemorative Air Force Air Force Museum in Mesa is the only combat aviation museum in the Valley. 6 Fall Cocktails
When the temperatures dip, local restaurants and bars feature some sensational seasonal cocktails to sip. Here are six favorites to enjoy throughout the fall.
ALISONBAILINBATZ1 THE VIKING
This concoction at Persepshen is reminiscent of spiced cider and celebrates the Arizona apple harvest. It is made fresh by pressing local, organic apples with ginger and then combining the juice with a reduction of organic apple cider vinegar and local bourbon. The ingredients blend together to offer a symphony of cinnamon, clove, Allspice, nutmeg, pink peppercorns, and baked apples on the palate. $13. 4700 N. Central Ave.; Phoenix; www.persepshenarizona.com
2 CAFÉ DE FUEGO
As much an interactive show as
a sweet fall treat, this hot cocktail at Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is made tableside and set ablaze before serving. First, choose a brand of tequila. Next, choose a spirited mixer (or two), with choices including Bailey’s Irish Cream, Frangelico, and/or 1921 Tequila Blanco (a cream liqueur with notes of cinnamon and vanilla). The boozy beauty is finished with coffee, cinnamon, sugar, whipped cream, and chocolate shavings. $16 and up. 7575 E. Princess Drive, Scottsdale; www.scottsdaleprincess.com
3 W.O.W.
FACTOR
A robust seasonal offering, it is named after Walker Owen Winger,
the young son of the restaurant’s beloved general manager. It is a blend of Knob Creek Single Barrel Select Bourbon, with Don Julio Reposado, Aperol, sweet vermouth, ancho chili liqueur, and Giffard Pamplemousse, which provides zesty marmalade notes. It is smoked with hickory and served in a goblet for added aroma and visual appeal. $15. 4231 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix; www.nookkitchen.com
4 FIRESIDE
This drink, served at UnderTow at Century Grand, evokes feelings of sitting around the campfire on a perfect Autumn night thanks to its mix of exotic spirits— Plantation O.F.T.D. Blended Rum, Germana Umburana Cachaça, and Jägermeister—with pumpkin puree, pineapple, lemon, lime, condensed milk, and cinnamon. It is finished with mint and a smoking cinnamon stick, emanating the scents of the season. $17. 3626 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix and 3150 E. Ray Road, Gilbert; www.drinkundertow.com

MONTE CRISTO
OEB Breakfast Co. sources coffee from Caffè Umbria, which uses a blend of up to 15 different types of beans from across Central America, South America, and Africa. For this fall favorite, Umbria drip coffee is the star of the show, complemented by Kahlua. The final ingredient is Grand Marnier, an orange-flavored brandy known for its fall-inspired notes of vanilla and oak. $9. 17757 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale; www.us.eatoeb.com
6 ESPRESSO MARTINI
This velvety martini, offered at B&B Cocktail Lounge, begins with ample Titos’s Vodka and Bailey’s Irish Cream, which is sweet and milky, with notes of vanilla and chocolate. Kahlua is added, offering its caramelkissed espresso flavor, and then Licor 43 to give the drink hints of orange peel, cinnamon, and cocoa. Before being presented tableside, it is topped with chilled expresso and a touch of luscious cream. $20. 4222 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale; www.bourbonandbones.com
