Whitby Advertiser March 2022 Issue

Whitby is lovely whatever time of the year, and over the past couple of months, the weather has been really kind to us despite it still being winter - many dry, sunny days, often with just a light breeze and hardly a cloud in the sky. You just need to wrap up well, and then it’s perfect for getting out and about, going on walks and enjoying all that nature has to give. It is so good for the soul and gives such a sense of freedom. I find that walking and taking in all that nature offers - the beautiful countryside with its trees, hedgerows, streams and rivers, and the awe-inspiring coastal views from the clifftops and the closeness of the sea when down on the beach - is a great way to de-stress and relax. Leaving both technology and material possessions behind and submitting to nature is the perfect way to help clear your head and bring you into the present moment. It is also said that spending time in nature can improve memory, lower stress hormones, and reduce feelings of depression or Sadly, anxiety.despite all the benefits of getting out and enjoying the fresh air and the lovely world around us, we cannot do this nearly as often as we like and we have to return to the ‘real world’ - our workplaces, our homes, and the demands and challenges of everyday life. For me this morning, I am sat in my home office fighting the cabin fever and restlessness, trying desperately to ignore the beautiful sunny weather and the views of Whitby I can see from my window as I write this short introduction to our March issue and check all is in order before publication. As always, I am grateful to my team who make similar sacrifices (more often than I!) so that we have another great issue to go to press with - a handy magazine where local businesses and tradesmen promote their goods and services, as well as offering lots to encourage readers to get ‘between the covers’ to enjoy - prize competitions, What’s On listings, book reviews and other interesting articles to name a few things!

We can even design your advert for you at no extra cost. Okay, despite all my great efforts to remain indoors and keep working, it is almost lunchtime and I find my self-discipline to be waning - perhaps I should pop out for a walk along the beach to Sandsend and enjoy a spot of lunch there rather than have the sandwich I prepared earlier which is sitting in the fridge? Hmmm, let me see ... Enjoy March and all it has to offer folks!
