GANTON GOLF CLUB
landscapes and an all-
Yorkshires long-acknowledged premier course is said to be the finest inland layout in the country. A catalogue of impressive Top100 World rankings, place Ganton amongst the ‘Who’s Who’ of the world’s top golfing locations.
Golf was first played in Ganton in the summer of 1891. The course was originally laid out by St Andrews’ Tom Chisolm, and has since been touched by most leading golf course architects over the years, including Braid, Colt, Fowler, Taylor and MacKenzie. Not resting on their laurels, the Club has recently embarked on a major restoration project under the direction of leading golf course architect
Martin Ebert. Clearance of gorse has revealed natural sand lines that had been lost over time – the dramatic scale of these sand areas provides great challenge and pleasing natural aesthetics.
Ganton is the only inland UK Club to host the Ryder, Curtis & Walker Cups, and the Amateur Championship among many other significant events. In 2021 the Club hosted the English Strokeplay Championship (Brabazon Trophy) and the R&A Senior Amateur Championship. In 2023 the R&A returned to stage the Boys and Girls Championships won by Kris Kim (Walton Heath and Helen Briem (Germany).
Ganton remains an enigma, where golfers experience tradition, quality, and a great test of their ability; The par 71 course measures over 7000yrd from the Championship tees, but most will prefer to play from the range of shorter teeing options available.
The superbly appointed clubhouse is a shrine to golfing years gone by. The Thirsk, Vardon and Rudgard rooms all boasts views across the course and provide access to a wonderful outdoor terrace – perfect for al fresco eating and drinking.
Ganton Golf Club welcomes society groups throughout the year with excellent dining packages coupled with fantastic golf to create the ideal golf day.
Ganton is proud to have been closely linked to the history of British golf and visitors enjoy reviewing old photographs, original paintings and tournament memorabilia which detail ‘the Ganton story’.
Vardon House provides on-site dormy accommodation for up to 8 golfers, and many visitors to Ganton take the opportunity to book a ‘stay and play’ package so they can fully immerse themselves in the Club traditions and history.
Ganton is certainly a venue that should be on every discerning golfer’s bucket list.

First-hand experience
Members of the Your Golfer Magazine team were lucky enough to enjoy a round on the Par 3 Cromwell course at Nailcote Hall.
“This Par 3 championship course is truly a hidden gem just outside historic city of culture Coventry. A course like no other we have played, it was maintained to perfection and offers nine uniquely stunning holes of golf ranging from 95 to 146 yards.
The Cromwell was a really interesting and true test of our short game with elevated greens, most with bunkers around them. All greens were surrounded with lush grass, whilst water comes into play on six of the nine holes.
Respite from bunkers on the last but with water short, long and left is another great test. This course isn’t about power it’s all about feel and finesse and there’s no wonder it is home to the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.
The Cromwell was great fun for all abilities. We cannot wait to play here again with the guarantee of a short game improvement. We really enjoyed the day, friendly staff and members in the wonderful 17th Century Country House Hotel. Fantastic for everyone’s short game and great fun!!”

Situated 6 miles south of Grantham in the picturesque parkland estate of Stoke Rochford, the golf course features fantastic drainage and irrigation meaning that visitors are able to putt on true greens all-year-round, as well as not being hampered by the conditions and lies that other courses in the region are a victim of during the colder months.
The golf club was formed in 1924 taking advantage of the naturally scenic setting that it found itself in. Today, the mature parkland in which the course at Stoke Rochford lies, set out by Capability Brown, features tight fairways with gentle slopes, mature trees and fast-rolling greens which make it one of the finest tests of golf in Lincolnshire with playability throughout the year.
With our Centenary last year, we would like as many golfers as possible to take advantage of playing this wonderful course, either on a day out with your mates, or by entering one of our Opens which we are hosting during the year. We are also hosting the regional final of England Golf’s Race to Woodhall Spa, England Schoolboys versus Wales Schoolboys, our 38th hosting of the Midland Youth Open Championship as well as several inter County matches. (Details on our website).

A true test of golfing ability as well as an enjoyable course for those looking to improve their handicap, the golf course is also recognised as one of the most attractive golf layouts in Lincolnshire offering a challenge to all abilities among a beautiful mix of flora and fauna, which the Estate features in its abundance.
Renowned for winter playability and the rare use of temporary greens, Stoke Rochford features some interesting contours and no less than four river holes with the Cringle Brook running through the heart of the golf course. It is often referred to as ‘Lincolnshire’s hidden gem’ and number one in the region for winter golf.
The Stoke Rochford clubhouse offers an extensively-stocked bar with beers, ‘real ales’, wines and spirits readily available, as are a variety of homemade cuisines, from snacks to three-course meals with all dietary requirements catered for. Both our Clubhouse and our HalfWay House have 5 star hygiene rating.

Rotherham GC
Rotherham Golf Club, a historic golfing venue in South Yorkshire, is nestled in the serene setting of one of Yorkshire’s finest historic parklands. The friendly members club has a rich legacy dating back over a century.
Rotherham Golf Club has provided a true test of golf for more than a century with its 16-hole course. Open champions Sandy Herd and course architect James Braid were behind the design of what is regarded as one of the county’s finest courses, one which is highly praised by the internationally renowned golfing star Lee Westwood.
At 6,334 yards off the white tees the course is not particularly long, though with a par of 70, it is certainly no push-over. The course has played host to some top professionals and aspiring amateurs, providing a fair and enjoyable test to golfers of all abilities. As well as this, Rotherham is the only club in England to boast a US Masters Tournament winner as a member - Danny Willett.
Over the past few years, Rotherham Golf Club has been enhancing what was already
considered one of the finest parkland courses in the region through various projects to elevate the playing experience and establish a new standard of golfing excellence.
One major focus has been on the bunker refurbishment project, which began in 2019 following member feedback. This extensive project, led by renowned golf course architect Jonathan Gaunt, aimed to refurbish all the bunkers on the course, improve their layouts, sand quality, drainage, and consistency. The refurbishment included the use of state-of-theart rubber crumb and bunker liner technology, and the new bunkers were filled with China clay sand known for its moisture retention and distinctive grey, mottled appearance.
In addition to the bunker upgrades, the club has made other notable improvements to its infrastructure. The path around the 13th tee and halfway house has been replaced with the Blinder Eco Path system, developed from recycled rubber crumb.
This environmentally friendly, hardwearing material is easy on the legs and enhances
the visual appeal of the course. This follows a similar upgrade to the path to the first tee and practice nets last year.
Rotherham Golf club also hosts a Grade II listed Neo-Gothic clubhouse, Thrybergh Hall, offering two bars and in-house catering facilities. The recently refurbished charming clubhouse offers spacious seating and dining areas overlooking the 18th hole and practice putting areas.
It is also home for numerous social events enjoyed by members throughout the year. These range from relaxed babrecues to family fun days to gourmet dinners and black-tie events such as the Captains dinner and New Years Eve dinner. The space even hosts weddings and private events with a friendly and skilled team of staff.
