HEARTBEAT

July 1 - 14, 2012

A Note from the Associate Pastor of Pastoral Ministries

Last Sunday in both morning worship services, we experienced a preview of what the 11 am service will be like beginning August 26. Please permit me to share with you why I am excited about this change. First, I am excited about it because our Pastor sensed the Lord’s leadership to make this change. It’s always exciting to step out on faith and see what the Lord does! Second, I am excited about it because it will enable us to better meet the needs of different generations. Whitesburg is (and will continue to be) a multi-generational church. Personally, I fully expect that the different generations will continue to be represented at both of our morning services. There are young adults in their 20s who prefer a more traditional service and there are baby boomers in their 50s who love contemporary worship. Having two distinctly different, but equally good worship experiences on Sunday morning will help our church minister in a better way – regardless of age or preference. Finally, I am excited about this change because I believe it will help us reach more people for the Lord Jesus Christ. Our church is well known for great Bible preaching and a wonderful choir and orchestra. That isn’t changing. Contemporary worship, however, has become so widespread in recent years that growing numbers of people won’t even consider attending a church that doesn’t offer it. A contemporary service at 11:00 am is really as much about those who are not here yet as it is about those who are here. Change is always difficult – especially when it affects you! It’s OK to have questions and concerns. We’d be happy to do our best to answer them if you give us the opportunity. Ephesians 4:3 speaks of the church “endeavoring to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace.” Sometimes that does take some endeavoring! The most important thing is that whatever we do at Whitesburg, we do together. Count me among those doing everything I can to support, pray for, and plan for the changes on August 26. It’s going to be a great day in the life of our church!

Love in Jesus, Dr. Greg Corbin
